I was wondering for all you who use the Touch HD with at&t if you have had any problems. In the settings for the network everything looks to be set properley (cingular.wap...etc.). It says I have service to but will not let me make or receive calls. When I go to a different part of town it sometimes lets me make calls and sometimes lets me text, even though t says I have service.
Does anyone know if at&t is putting restrictions on the phone or has a solution to the problem which I don't even know what the problem is.
Thanks

I haven't run into this yet. I have only had the phone now for 2.5 days and love it, been playing with it alot. Testing my old software and stuff and it always works, gets text messages, emails, and calls.
Did you play with the Phone/Band settings? If so put them back on auto or force them to use ones that work.
I've been using the HD on att for months now without any problems...I didn't have to set anything up to get it to work...just chose ATT when it asked which carrier to use when I turned the phone on for the first time.
Link in my sig if you want to input them manually to be sure they are correct.

I cant recieve any MMS or send them either. They just stay in the outbox when I try to send them. When I was with tmobile, they worked, but then I unlocked my phone, switched to ATT, and upgraded to WM6.1 and they no longer work.
What can I do?
Thanks
You could try this -

Thanks! I actually tried this before, but it wasn't working until I did a few different things. Whenever it tells you to add something, make sure you delete everything else first. I don't know if there really is any difference, but it worked for me.

Can you please provide more detail? I've had no luck trying to send picture thru mms.
Yah I have tried to help him with no success either... Hopefully someone out there is using At&t and is able to help him out.
Arite man here goes nothing, but an attempt...
I work in the technical department of a cellular service provider in the caribbean. We are not as advanced as the americans, etc in the sense of having 3g and stuff like that. Anyways, lol we do provide edge service and i have a dash w/wm6.1 Rom. I also have blackberry connect on my device. Up until recently i never tried sending MMS, so when i attempted to, i ran into a similar error. after reading a thread to fix on here, i finally received my first MMS (which was pending for days by the way), but i still couldnt send.
here's my fix...
since im using BB connect on my device, im connected with EDGE all the time. so i used my connection settings and just added or subtracted a few options from the MMS settings.
the only options i ticked in the settings were: automatic download in home and roaming network, save sent messages and allow delivery report. i then inserted the necessary MMS settings provided by my network: URL, Gateway, Port; always connect via the Internet. After this i was able to receive.
The problem with my network is that it uses WAP or blackberry to send or receive MMS, but since im using BB connect, i wouldnt have all the defaulted settings as a BB device would, so i had to set up a WAP connection and i was able to get rid of my messaged stored in the outbox.
this should be a good solution for you if you know the settings for your service provider, or you can always call and ask for the settings, since it cannot be sent OTA with the Dash.
Yea i know its kind of a long post, but i wanted to give a detailed rundown of how i got mine to work.
I've had a few reports of people telling me that I never answer my phone and it just rings and goes to voicemail.
Last night a friend called me to test this theory and it went straight to voicemail. It seems that 90% of my calls come through fine but the occasional one doesn't!
I've been testing it a lot in the last 12 hours and I can't seem to recreate the problem - I'm not sure if the cellular radio within the phone is hanging if it hasn't been used for a while?
Anyway - anyone else had this?
What kind of signal are you getting when occurs? (G, E, 3G, H etc)
If you are only receiving a 2G signal (G or E), if your phone is actively using data you will not receive calls because you cannot use voice and data simultaneously, and there seems to be no prioritization of voice over data.
If you are getting 3G, this isn't your issue since you should be able to have simultaneous voice and data!
Regards,
Dave
Good Point - i'm not sure, mu phone is almost always H but i suppose it could occasioinally drop.
I will experiment - thanks for the answer.
Is there an app or something that will only allow for 3g connections - thus preventing my phone from accessing data when only a 2g is available and stoip me missing calls?
This is a network issue, not a phone issue.
Network issue as in fixable with a phone call to T-mobile?
Or network issue as in unfixable?
This is a t-mobile problem. They have not found a solution to the problem yet.
I'm with Orange UK and 9 out of 10 calls go straight to the voice mail, I know that 2G cant cope with data and voice at the same time but Im having this problem with a strong 3G signal!!! The only time im not having this issue is when the phone gets a H signal (not very often, though).
Any one hahing the same problem??
This isn't related to your problem but is a general missed calls questions.
When i get a missed call i drag the task bar down and it will say for example "missed call from 07123123123". Obviously this isn't very useful since i don't know the number of every contact in my phone! So my question is is there a way to get the phone to say for example "missed call from John Smith"
mine does this.
it says: missed call from contact X as long as the number is assigned to contact X.
I have a T-mobile Version as well, but did not have any issues with missed calls
I'm struggling to find any other phones that conistantly show the same problem, but several threads reporting the it happening on the Desire. This is a worrying sign in my book.
Have a read of this thread. You'll see that other phones don't report the missed call problem but the Desire does.
(I can't post links so just google for "desire Not receiving calls when browsing on GPRS" and click the first link which is for "Android Forums").
Is there any one here who can do some low level testing on this? I expect it would be quite a tricky job but it would be worth doing.

That would be quite useful imho!
I had that problem too. However after rooting the phone and flashing the newest radio 32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2, the problem was completely gone.
Thats interesting. How long have you been running it for?
I flashed the new radio about a week ago and after that I could pick up all calls. (My carrier sends an sms every time someone calls but cannot be picked up) However the past two three days, I started tinkering with my phone again; flashing new roms and kernels. Thus these pass two three days, I did have some calls that went directly into voicemail, but all the calls registered on my phones as missed calls (+ i still get the SMSs). Which is better than before.
Give me another week to play around with the phone. Also a newer radio is out. However, I have not tested it yet.

Same probem here, seems like my phone is always poping from H to 3g but I can't text or call while its flicking between the too. When im on wifi problem is fine or if I switch mobie internet off.
I am on Orange using a debranded phone with 2.1 update 1 instaled.
radio is 32.36.00.28u_4.06.00.02_2 i think thats the radio anyway
Bizarrely enough is this issue only effection those on Orange or something??
Please everyone post up your network provider and your location in the UK
This could well be a Orange / T-mobile issue as they are currently upgrading all there masts, as the two companies join, My desire has only dropped about 10% of calls but my wifes LG 620 ( android ) is a definite 50/50....
Only time will tell.........

Ya beat me to that lol just saw the news,,,,, I'd sit back and wait while the work is completed
I'm using unbranded Desire with no mods/rooting, udgraded to the latest official Android 2.2 version.
Here are my problems:
1. People say that they couldn't reach me (number unavailable) while I was on the network all the time. Doesn't happen very often (or I just don't know that) but is really annoying when it does.
2. I am connected to my home WiFi but browser/other programs say that network connection is not available. I have to turn wifi off and on again for it to work. Can it have something to do with the "energy management" widget?
3. My phone is calling people. I get a callback from people saying I called them but they couldn't hear anything (phone was in my pocket). I was wondering if it wasn't the case when I am finishing a call and pressing the red button to end the call but someone on the other side hung up earlier and when I press, the "call" function is activated. However I remember 1 or 2 times when it was definetely not the case.
4. I desperately need a PDF reader that allows to continue reading a book in the place where I finished last time. At the moment I need to be very careful not to close the pdf reader app. When I do I need to look for the page, really annoying. This should be a free app (Google doesn't want my money, they don't allow people from my country into paid appstore )
Hello, 1&2 are really weird problems, they might be connected with the radio, can you check your radio version in settings\about\software\baseband. Some people had problems with the official OTA. Just to be sure - is your wifi alright on other devices and are you sure you have sufficient network coverage. If you download torrents with a crappy router you are likely to get problems. If you're in a low signal area it is possible to lose signal while your device is in your pocket e.g. closer to the ground, when you pick it up you see the bars, when it's in the pocket the network dies. One thing you can easily do is a factory reset , this way we'll find out if any software is causing the problem
3 - you might be turning your device on and then pressing the screen and then calling people, it is not unheard of . Ask them if they hear any noise like cars, people passing by and other stuff, if they do then that's the case
4 - search the market, there are a few, you'll need to try them to see which works best for you

If you only have a 2G connection, and are actively using data, all incoming calls will get diverted to voicemail because 2G only supports voice or data - not both at the same time. This is not an issue if you are in 3G coverage, when you can have simultaneous voice and data.
Note that this is a network side issue - 2G networks can be configured to prioritize voice over data, so that if a call comes through data is suspended, but as far as I'm aware most networks (in the UK at least) do not support this.

Dave

I guess there is no point going to the store with a problem that cannot be reproduced :-/
Anyway I don't think it's something physical, I suppose software reset will fix everything.
I had that with Nokias, there was a main board problem (every now and then it said "invalid sim card"). Every time I sent it back to the manufacturer, it came back saying "software replaced, tested, everything ok".
Thanks for help anyway ;-)

Thanks Dave, actually my phone is set to automatically choose network type and I am using a widget to turn off mobile data since I have WiFi at home and only turn it on when I'm outdoors.
I heard that some phones cannot decide whether they should log into the 3G or 2G and that may be the issue. I have changed the settings to use only 3G, we'll see how it works.
BTW: Dave, is it London Ealing? I used to work in Ealing O'Neill's pub back in my student days :-D
Something really weird is going on with my At&t galaxy s3. I'm new to this forum so I'll just explain what I'm experiencing and do my best to work through it will all of you. This phone got rooted by someone else and when I got it, the rooted program was in chinese and was acting all weird and wasn't getting good reception, although it was before it was rooted. I flashed it back to normal and it's acting very curious. It will receive an At&t simcard but the service bars will go from 1 bar to 4g to Edge to 1 bar all in a matter of 20 seconds or so and doesn't seem to work. It will occasionally work to send messages, make calls, but it seems like it can't ever receive calls. I checked and the IMEI number is still the same. Also, I had originally tried to unlock it to another carrier and when I put in different simcards (From other carriers such as verizon) the service bars don't show up, instead, all it shows is a cancel sign and doesn't ask for an activation code or anything. I'm honestly not sure what to do here, I thought I had broken the simcard reader and replaced that, but that made no difference. I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

Unlock is supposed to be permanent so it's odd that you lost it.
Now as for your problem, a lot of people are getting this issue lately, where unlocking damages their nv file. The solution can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43842387

Thanks for your quick response I have been looking for a long time and never saw this issue before. I'm not sure where I'll be able to find a replacement nv file...but i'll see if anyone I know has a galaxy s3 from at&t. Maybe once I do this the unlock issue won't be messed up anymore.
Hi there.
My M9 has a strange problem where it rejects phone calls on a seemingly random basis. When I try to call the phone from a landline or another mobile it shows no sign that there's an incoming call. The phone making the call hears a ringing tone twice, and then only a beeping (like an engaged tone but with one beep longer than the other). The odd part is that it doesn't always happen. I get the occasional cold call come through, and sometimes people phoning me can get through, but at other times they can't. It seems consistent that when I'm at home in the evenings it rejects all calls. I'm sitting at home now and if I try to phone from a landline or mobile it won't get through yet the phone is showing full signal and can make calls. I've tried with WiFi and mobile data on and off and rebooting the phone to no avail. SMS messages come through fine all the time.
I've contacted my network (Virgin mobile UK) and they've issued a replacement SIM - same problem. I've tried the SIM in a Nokia and it seems to work perfectly, so I've come to the conclusion it must be the M9 causing this.
To start with I was on the stock HTC Android, and I've not got any auto-reject settings turned on (that I can see). To try and solve this I've done a factory reset via the phone, and when that didn't work I tried doing a complete wipe and installing TWRP recovery and ViperOneM9. It still rejects calls!
Anyone got any ideas? I've tried searching for this but all the posts seem to be about setting up auto rejects, or not receiving any calls at all. Are there any logs I could look at to see if the M9 is getting the call but then rejecting it without my knowledge? Any hints here would be appreciated!
TIA
Flash the stock firmware via SD card method. It seems like a cliché but it really solves most problems both software and hardware. If it doesn't then you know you have bigger issues.
I'd place a bet that you have a rogue app abusing it's call permissions but it'd take ages to find it.

Thank you. I started doing that but had some problems, so in the end I bought a new phone, and lo and behold I had the same problem as I had with the HTC, and that was when the phone was fresh out of the box before I'd installed any apps.
After a LOT of playing around with settings, I've now figured out that if I have 4G turned on when I'm at home then all calls are rejected, even if WiFi is also turned on. Forcing the phone to use 3G when I'm at home means I get calls, and if I have 4G turned on when I'm at work I get calls OK. I guess the test with the Nokia worked OK as it wasn't a 4G phone.
After repeated calls to Virgin they've finally admitted that there's a fault on the phone mast close to my house, and by the sounds of it they have a lot of open tickets for that mast. As they use EE's network they say they can't do anything until EE pull their finger out, but as I've had the issue for months I bet it won't be anytime soon. For now I'll have to switch to 4G manually whenever I'm away from home and try to remember to put it back to 3G when I get back. Not ideal but at least I know what the problem is now!
Thanks for your suggestion, even though it wouldn't have worked in this case.
