I have my dash on 6.1
and after a while it starts to get laggy or really slow
any ideas what to do?

You can either restart as the phone tends to build up in the amount of programs being opened, or you can always click the tzones button and it will direct you to the task manager where u can close programs to make the phone less laggy...
Install (and then purchase) Celetask. Best darn task manager around and with its 'free memory' tool I can keep my dash at 18MB free program memory all day
You should also get SKTools, clean out the Notification Que once in a while.. that slows down the Dash as well.

Celetask does not need to be purchased as it comes with the new 6.1 rom remade by Ricky... version 24...
i have celetask and free memory but still not running that smooth
there have been times where the phone just locks up and ihave to pull the battery out.
any other ideas why?

maybe cause it's actively synced to your gayness level, and it overloads the phone
jk, from my experience, whenever i install cabs, my phone ends up slowing down alot faster than a reflash without any cabs. maybe you could reflash and only install the cabs you need?
if not, then try restarting the phone often, cause its like those old computers we used to use back in the day where a restart was almost necessary every day
also, clearing the mass amounts of text messages (and deleting them from the trash) makes my dash faster

Agree just try restarting it once a day as well as clearing up the texts... Also run SKTools in order to clean up and free some bytes... You can find the link to download SKTools below in the programs for smartphone... Just download the lite version okay if you would like... I also have the other version but read the readme file for that version...
I was just thinking.. does anyone know if we really need a Firewall and anti-virus for our S621.
Fortunately for everyone, there's no need of a AV or firewall package for our excaliburs (or we need one?)

I would like to share with you my findings over the last week i have been looking into the aledged WM smartphone virus's and i'm sure you will already know my findings to which only 3 smartphone virus's have been logged, i do believe that the ammount of software advertised would like us to believe different but? The 3 know virus's are not a virus as PC users know a virus but are used to collect data not kill system, please feel free to do a search i used many criterias.
In a search you will get most will be companys trying to sell you a product, i am by no means saying that we should not be careful and think before we download a file and also to use the PC to scan files before transfer, i'm merely stating the fact there is money to be made and that considering how much RAM these anti-virus software take up and is not needed...............

Is like you said, scan files on your pc before transfering them to your phone, and if people want to be extra carefull , don't try to download anything straight to your phone from the internet unless absolutely sure.
i had flexilis mobile spyware and anti-virus with firewall on my dash, it would make my phone realy slow on bootup, and all it block was incomeing ports and just took up lots of memory, took it off and now run better then befor,but very true no need for a antivirus app on windows mobile, and as far as downloading something that well mess your phone up dont worry phone dont have a hard drive, and if you do try downloading a app thats not good for your dash the os securtiy wont let you, and if you do download a app that wont delite you can always hard reset your dash or even download a frish rom if any thing were to ever happen to itor just buy a new one at ebay, only thing to worry is a new app thats out thats called super bluetooth hacker, if some one has that app on there phone thay can try to hack your phone via bluetooth, but thay only can if you let them in, oh ya if thay do get in your phone via there bluetooth hack thay can see and upload everything you have on your phone also make calls useing your number,so for any reason you have your bluetooth open and see someone trying to send you some thing becareful make sure its someone you know,also if someone calls you and says its your phones carrer and want to do a update on your phone and say thay want you to hit the #90 or #9 keys dont its a hack just tell them you well call them back at there home customer care number and do so, and if you lose your phone and its unlocked were as if you dont have a lock code to open it get one make one,on the dash just go to settings then security there you can adjust your phone to stay locked till you unlock it,

Not in a traditional sense of the meaning of firewall and depends on the software if it has a call filter, far better on resouces just to use MagiCall.
I know that Android based phones have applications where you can track your phone through GPS software should it ever get lost. Is there such an application for our phones? I'd hate to lose my phone that has GPS capability and not be able to find it. And the thought of losing it and someone else finding it, hack it, and use it for their own personal use would be very more irritating.
And I know that the Motorola CLIQ even has the capability to erase all your stored information on the phone should you lose it to prevent someone from hacking into the phone and retrieving your sensitive information. Again, is there any software for our phones also?

I always do use the "Search" function, but even with sifting through posts I didn't come across the two you listed. Thank you. Maybe I'm trying to be too technical with my searches...

I just tried the Maspware GuardsMobile and ended up locking my phone up. It recommended disabling balloon pop-ups and a soft-restart. I allowed that then it gave me errors loading some related tracking.exe file. I tried to enter the default pin and it didn't work. Gave me 3 attempts. After the 3rd attempt the phone was locked! Searched around and came up with nothing. There's not even a guide explaining what happens.
So now I'm forced to reflash the phone and restore my PIM. I do not recommend this program for anyone with cooked ROMs.
I'm going to now play with Ultimate Theft Alert.
Can't find any command lines for Ultimate Theft Alert V35. I don't think I really like it a whole lot as some of the others...think I'll try my luck at Maspware GuardMobile again.
Ok, reinstalled GuardMobile. Activated it (fingers crossed). It recommended disabling the SMS bubbles again and a soft-reset. I let it and amazingly my phone didnt lock up this time when entering the demo password "1234".
I feel much more comfortable trialing this program than Ultimate Theft Alert as they list the commands on their website, and you don't get ANY commands list until you've purchased UTA. So without having any commands to trial the program I will not be purchasing UTA.
Time to play around with MaspWare GuardMobile now...
Ok, just tried to exit GuardMobile and I got the freaking error again!
"An unexpected error has occurred in GuardMobile_TS.exe.
Select Quit and them restart this program, or select Details for more information.
Luckily this time I didn't leave it active while testing. Reset phone and it works. But everytime I try and test the locate or monitor it fails to send SMS. Then I exit the program and it crashes. I'm going to uninstall and forget this program...AGAIN!
Sprite Terminator seems to work so far. Only exception is that I can't use the "Alternate GPS" It doesn't give me a lock on my position and comes up with all ZEROS. Going to keep playing with this.
Had you tried any of the web services I've posted?
They both work fine for me. And they are both free (at least, for now, at Beta stage...).

Well, Flexilis have a "Scream" command, that will make the phone starts playing a rather anoying horn sound, for 30 seconds.
Handy to find a lost device, at least. And to get some atention on a stolen one, but the thief can just turn it off...

Hmm might be at least a bit useful like you say - maybe a password to turn off sound will be better?
Well, they are in Beta, so accepting ideas and feature requests... why don't you send them an e-mail?
I'm going to give kaspersky a run, it sounds good.
I can see a lot of techie people getting very upset about what's been revealed about WP7S, and I'm starting to think that although I too was initially a bit ruffled, much of it really doesn't matter.
1. No SSD support
I always buy the biggest SSD I can, shove it into my new phone, and promptly forget about it. I can't recall the last time I upgraded to a bigger SSD without upgrading my phone at the same time, such is the rate of progress. Indeed, the iPhone, with its internal memory, always seems to be one step ahead of SSD-capable phones. My HD2 has a 16GB SSD, the iPhone has 32GB of memory. 32GB SSDs aren't even available. I never, ever take the SSD out of the phone once it's in there. So for me, removable memory just isn't an issue.
2. Multitasking
I thought I needed this, but looking at the apps I use on my HD2, I can only see one that really genuinely need multitasking, and that's Palringo. As far as I can tell, chat is going to be integrated into the Panels thingy so I probably won't even need to install Palringo anyway. Pausing apps when I switch away from them will be just fine with me.
3. Marketplace
I've never developed my own apps, nor do I intend to, nor do I operate in a corporate environment. Downloading apps from a central marketplace will be 100 times easier than having to trawl through Handango etc for some frankly pretty ****e apps to try to find decent ones. At least the apps in the store will have gone through a vetting process. I just hope Microsoft aren't as draconian as Apple in what they reject. Also, when downloading an app I won't have to choose between speed (install to memory) and space (install to SSD). I will get BOTH without having to decide at all. Sounds good to me!
4. Inter-app communications etc.
I don't believe WM6.5 apps do that anyway!
There you go, flame away - I for one will be much happier with a WP7S phone than I have been with WM6.5.

I don't like the idea that i have to install apps through marketplace, unless the downloaded apps could be saved on the internal/external storage so i can manually install it again if i have to hard reset my device if nescesary.
Imagine you're on vacation, somewhere across the border and suddenly you need to hard reset your device because... because you just had to.
now... installing apps through marketplace requires an data connection, wich of course, you don't have (besides wifi) if you were in another country. Or you'd like to pay for data roaming.

there is no external storage so without a pc u wont be able to put your info back on without a wifi or data connection which would work like myphone does now. not sure how u would put your apps back on without re downloading all of them from marketplace.
saying this im guess the phone is less likely to go wrong and will be very similar to how a iphone works.

From my own perspective, I never keep copies of the cab files for my apps on my phone anyway, so that wouldn't help me. Nore have I ever had to do a hard reset on my HD2 (except once for the dreaded lock password issue, now I don't use a lock password). Plus, as there IS NO SSD to store them on, it's kind of a moot point.
I don't like that Marketplace is the only way to install app.
That means MS can potentially shut out competitive product like google map, search etc. This is getting more like apple to me.
Also, if not SD support and no USB Device mode, it's a no go for me.
I'd like to store photos, music and even pc apps etc on my SD in case I need it.
Plus, should your phone become bricked, good luck trying to access to all your content.

Microsoft have already said they will allow all competitors' apps, and I hope that will always remain true. Regarding USB file transfer, have Microsoft specifically said it won't be supported? (I'm not sure)

ms has said u cant use wm7 as a usb drive, they also said that bing must be used for search, not sure if it must be used for maps too.

I think you still access photos, music etc. with the new media sync application (forgot the name). Indeed it seems to be a major feature of WP7!
But I also use my phone as USB stick, using it for non-media stuff, which I assume won't be possible anymore.
I experienced once incident during holiday to Spain, this is real story.
I was using TomTom and HTC Kaiser. All of sudden, the TomTom application stuck, I could not interact with it ... except hitting the soft-reset hole.
After soft reset, all content in my sd card gone, including the TomTom map.
I really hate that situation because I rely only on my TomTom
Lessen learned, I always keep second SD card on my bag during holiday which contain exactly the same.
So there you go, I think SD card is required.
The thing is, I am willing to sacrifice without SD Card. Probably the above incident was caused by "bad" sd card. With internal storage, probably it will be much more reliable. Ok that's fine.
But ........................
I want a way to EASILY store my files (big files) on the phone. Files like software utility etc. That's handy.
With no file manager ... and no sd card slot, I cannot picture this possible easily.
Probably I could use Zune software (ala iTunes)???
But that will defeat the purpose of having those files available all the time. Because other PC might not have Zune software!
Hmm, using email to transfer file? Yeah right, 3G is still slow compared to direct copy from sd card ! And imagine when roaming to pay data connection.
This is what I really dont like about WP7 ...
I can live without multitasking and side loading, no problem with that.

I remember yesterday, when someone asked Joe Belfiore ... "Will there be Mac support?"
His answer was something like "You dont need PC to be able to use Windows Phone 7 Series" ... "Try to not use PC" ...
Hmm, it'll be a shame to lose the USB drive functionality, but I only really ever used that to load cab files onto my phone (which will be moot as marketplace will be the way to get apps) from my work PC, but I can live without doing that, especially as I shouldn't have been doing that anyway (ahem).
An advantage of using the Zune software to put files onto the phone will be the inbuilt compression and media format conversion though, which will be nice.
I should add that I carry a 32GB memorystick around with me (it's on my house keyfob) and use that for pretty much all my file transfer needs. My phone is so stuffed with mp3s that it has virtually no free space on its SSD, hence it's pretty useless for file transfer anyway!

At this moment, I also carrying 4GB super small micro sd card on my pocket.
I think I need to find one as a key-chain.

Satnav application vendors often distribute their maps by selling you an SD card with the maps pre-installed on it. How's that going to work without an SD card slot? Are people going to download several gigabytes worth of maps over the data connection?
The way it works for iPhone is pretty straightforward - downloads over 10MB go via iTunes (you can choose to download everything this way, BTW).

I really don't understand this no SD card thing. If I interpreted the post where I read that information correctly. It's not even that there are no SD cards allowed, it's that they don't want removable SD cards.
I think they said the vendor could have an unremovable SD card if they chose (behind the battery). I'm hoping I mis-interpreted this, I see little reason or sense in having SD card support but making them non-removable. That would just further upset me about that .
But I guess isn't not that big a deal since there's no file management on the device which is an even bigger problem. It's almost like they're trying to alienate their business clients.

Anyhow as far as I can work out most of the new stuff in WP7S compared to WM is lame and actually relates to loss of functionality, with only the potential for easier development being offered in return. If useful apps materialise then maybe the damage won't be that bad but they are sacrificing everything for potential gain.
The fact is though that windows mobile grew on PDAs, and I think most people who want a WM phone want a PDA with a phone attached to it, with the feel of a "PC" in your "pocket". WP7S seems targeted at a completely different consumer who just wants a phone with a flashy touchscreen display. The thing is iphone does that perfectly well already. I don't see anything I want in WP7S, and there's nothing that has been described that I can't get elsewhere in an ordinary (modern) phone. It had better be a better product because I doubt there would be any customer loyalty between 6.5 and 7.

Well you obviously understand the no SD card thing - there's nothing you could do with the card in WP7S with no file system access.

best? never ever. read tests and reviews on the internet. most free antivir software for android is useless because the recognition rate is very poor. 1-3 out of 120 threads were found with the best free anti virus app. I would use a paid version like kaspersky

Poor? Really?
It's the only full mobile security suite that offers working root features. There is a STEALTH option for the app to survive a hard reset, disable usb debugging, siren, GPS, message, forwarding, control and lock the phone all using the anti-theft remote feature.
advanced firewall, virus scanner, web guard, privacy advisor, app management..
It's lightweight on the memory and it looks appealing. What's poor about it?
what's poor? as I said, the recognition rate of viruses and malware. I just read it and saw a documentation in tv. although avast might be not that bad. I use avast for my pc, too and I like it
I've been using Avast on all of my desktops and laptops that i've used for the last 8 years and it never let me down..
I installed it on my phone as well a couple of months back..and it's never let me down too..till me phone wasn't rooted, the firewall option was disabled, but now even that's open..tried it out and i can definitely say its in par with its desktop counter part and way ahead of its paid android competitors..

I tried it, and it is the best thing since sliced bread. It does not make my phone lag at all, anti theft works wonderfully, and the detection rate is (apparently did not try it myself ) also very high. If you are like me and you download many APK's from the net, it could just save your phone, or your bank account xD.

It is a shame that I cannot find the source anymore, but the detection rate was somewhere in the 90%.
I'm sure Avast will have a great detection rate, the problem come in the time between the malware being release and it being detected by the AV software. All companies/products will be affected by this and in that window your phone/computer/whatever can be harmed. Having said that I place my trust in a company with a very good track record of creating AV software and the anti-theft features make it a no-brainer for me. Avast Rocks.
best protection is making nandroid backups every 7 days or so ... and if something goes to hell, just revert, and adio ...
though i have never seen a virus for android, and i hope won't in close future ...
this is a good apps, but unfortunately i need to uninstall it since its blocking connections of viber..
