In AdvancedConfig it is possible to add a 3G toggle menu:
Menu -> More Settings -> CommManager -> 3G
Is it just a Regsitry setting to change the Band to WCDMA or is there an application which changes (or toggles) the status?
I found out, that in
HKLM\Software\OEM\UMTS the OpMode changes from 1 to 0 when WCDMA is activated, however, changing this key alone doesn't switch on 3G
Does someone know, how this can be done?

once enabled, doesn't that already add a toggle between 2G / 3G mode in Communications Manager?

That's right, but I want to implement it on the action screen, it's easier and faster for me, as I really work intensively with the action screen ...

Thank you ...
This one I know, it works here (see first screnn shot) ...
What I like to know is, what happens behind that 3G button, when I press it.
I like to remap my ActionScreen (see second screen shot), so that I can have a 3rd row like
toggle 3G / toggle WiFi / toggle Bluetooth
Anyone can help?

I think I changed a setting on my HTC TP2 disabling 3G. I cannot get a 3G signal anywhwere. My buddy has verizon and has the droid and he has 3g standing right next to me.
I tried reprogramming with *228
also
Home screen -> Settings tab -> Communications -> Tap "Phone" (not the on/off toggle) -> Network tab -> Mode of operation set to "Global"
What else do I check?
Thx
Which ROM are you using?
Please let me know how can I turn 3G off? Is it possible to modify some registry keys?

I use this Tool from the great Chainfire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519
go to settings, in the "Personal tab" you will find "phone",click on it,you will get the phone settings, then select band and choose GSM as a Network Type and keep the gsm/UMTS band to auto if you don't know the right value of your gsm network!
And Voila the 3g will be disabled!

Wow! thanks a lot!
When I connect to internet depending on the location sometimes I get the G icon sometimes the H icon.
Is it possible to set it only to connect on H (even if reception is bad, 1 bar only, rather than G with 3-4 bars reception)
Is there an App for it? than can let you choose what you wanna connect to?
I know in my nokia n95 i could go to networking and choose what i wanted but i cant seem to find that on the galaxy s.
any help would be great
thanks
LOL...
G - GPRS
H - HSDPA+ (faster than 3G)
You can't change it, It depends on your signal strength and location.

constant HSDPA+ would also kill your battery too..i would image ye?
Only as much as what constant 3G uses.
im sure its possible because here is how to do it on the Omnia HD, its just a hidden menu setting
http://forums.samsungi8910omnia.com...ncrease-web-browsing-speed-when-using-3g.html
we have the same menu on the Galaxy S, so if someone can just figure out how to get to this part then you can do it
That is to increase the speed of the 3G. You can only see results if your using 3G,not sure it will increase the speed of the HSDPA. Also this wont allow you to get more of the signal or allow you to use just 3g or hsdpa for internet, again its down to network signal and location.

You could do *#*#4636#*#* in the phone app and change CDMA/GSM Auto to WCDMA or WCDMA preferred for 3G only, but you will have no service if you leave 3G coverage since it will not revert to standard GSM.

That method didn't work for me when I tried it; each time I re-entered the menu, the settings had reverted to whatever was chosen in Menu -> Settings -> Wireless & Network -> Mobile Networks... either GSM Only or GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) depending on whether the 2G only box was checked.
To get 3G only, enter ServiceMode:
*#*#197328640#*#* -> Debug Screen -> Phone Control -> Network Control -> Band Selection
Choose WCDMA BAND for 3G only.

Hi all,
Can anyone please explain to me the difference between the following options in SYSTEM > NOTIFICATION DRAWER > WIDGET BUTTONS > NETWORK MODES?
The options are:
1. 2G/3G+2G
2. 2G/3G Only
3. 2G/3G Only/3G+2G
I understand what option 2 is (2G/3G Only) as this makes sense, but the other two make less sense and I find them quite confusing, especially the 3G+2G parts.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

I can't tell you for sure since i'm on a sense rom, but as I understand it this refers to widget buttons that toggle between 2 or 3 options.
So:
1. 2G/3G+2G => toggles between "2g network only" and "2g or 3g network"
2. 2G/3G Only => toggles between "2g network only" and "3g network only"
3. 2G/3G Only/3G+2G => toggles between "2g network only", "3g network only" and "2g or 3g network"
So the 3G+2G mode would have your phone connect to an available 3G network unless when there is no 3G available in which case it will try to connect to an available 2G network.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

How I can switch my Fire Phone to 3G Only Band? Some App or somthing? Who help? :what:
Go to the dialer, enter *#*#4636#*#* and tap "Phone Information". On the next screen, you can select 'WCDMA preferred' from the drop-down menu. However, I'm not sure if the phone will automatically reset itself back after a restart or whatnot.
Yes. I discovery that. Its simple and easy. Now for me, a very good phone.
Is there anyway to turn off 3G ? for use 2G GSM only mode , I want to use EDGE option since my area has the weak 3G signal.

You follow the same steps I gave in my previous post. Instead of selecting WCDMA preferred, you select GSM only in the drop-down menu.

Thank you it works great without reset the phone.
And easier and lazier way is to install the app "Phone testing", it is the shortcut to the same menu. On Motorola phone the app is required because that dialer combination doesn't work.
