Welcome to the our first 0.9 Alpha release (version 0.9.0.8294)
This release is Windows Mobile only. We will have our first Symbian 0.9 release in early January.
Please read through this post since there are some gotchas that you should be aware of.
Starting with this release we are starting our Alpha program much earlier, and introducing for each release a smaller set of enhancements. The benefits are:
* You get earlier access to releases
* It is clearer what is new and allows you to focus your feedback accordingly.
* We get feedback earlier and can better integrate it into the product.
Our target for this release is last week of January.
This release is basically the latest Skyfire 0.8.5 with the following additions (more to come over time):
Text resizing:
This is a new approach to improve the readability of larger sections of text on a web page.. Our current (e.g. 0.8.*) approach is ‘Smartfit’, which reflows text into a narrower column. When it worked it was ok, unfortunately it broke a lot of web sites.
This new approach simply increases the text size enough that you should be able to read it more comfortably once zoomed into the text area (e.g. into the column width). You can switch this feature on/off by using the ‘Smartfit’ toggle. This allows you to see the difference as well.
This is our first iteration. We are looking forward to hear your opinion.
WVGA and W(Q)VGA support:
Finally. Now we support both WVGA (800x480) and WQVGA (400x240) devices on both portrait and landscape format.
We have tested in-house the Sony Ericsson Experia X1 (WVGA) and the Samsung Omnia (WQVGA).
Please see the list of known issues for these phones. It’s early days so please help us report issues.
EXPERIMENTAL: Flash/Silverlight handling:
Experimental is what it says: this is something that we played around with and we wanted to get your opinion.
When the cursor (using the d-pad) is placed over a plug-in element (Flash or Silverlight) the cursor will change to a hand a red dot. This provides two functionalities:
1. Each click will move the cursor half the distance for better preciseness.
2. You can enter “Direct Edit mode” (click and hold):
This will now send all keystrokes directly to the embedded app. This opens up the possibility to enter text into Flash or Silverlight.
Play with it and tell us what you think.
Known issues for this release:
- Samsung Omnia sometimes disconnects after ~15-20sec when carrier data service is used (WiFi seems to work)
- Sony Ericsson Experia X1: soft menus are incorrectly mapped in portrait mode. This can be corrected in the Windows under settings.
Warning: WHEN YOU SEE AN UPGRADE FLAG IN SKYFIRE PLEASE IGNORE IT. This will unfortunately upgrade you to the production version and overwrite the Alpha release. If this happens, then uninstall Skyfire and reinstall the Alpha version. Sorry for this, will be addressed soon.
Your existing username and password in 0.8.5 beta (e.g. production) continues to work for this Alpha. Thus your bookmarks and history will be preserved.
To install:
Download from this post, extract and transfer the CAB file to your device. Then install. It will be cleaner if you uninstall Skyfire first.
Windows Mobile touch screen use: 0.9_Alpha_RC.8294-PPC50.CAB
Windows Mobile non-touch screen use: 0.9_Alpha_RC.8294-SMP50.CAB
Link does not work!

Thanks man, you're great!

First feedback:
It doesn't seem to be able to use my data connection. However, it works when I connect using wifi.
It does use my data connection. However, the sites are blurred (probably because they simply streched it to WVGA).
I try this SkyFire on my HTC HD befor few hrs and what to say I Uninstall it permanently!
Very ugly and bad quality screen
It`s not so fast like the peoples think.. my based opera 9.5 is 1000 times better than this!
I don`t see any reason to use this kind of browser and when the guys from SkyFire know the Display on HTC HD why they don`t do something to look cool and clear?
The browser look like is made for 150x300 device and someone streched it thousend times!
with one word REALLY NOT WOTH IT
Skyfire is still in Alpha... Don't expect miracles yet.
The big plus is the ability to handle flash 9 content including flash videos.
Bug: No sound in flash video such as youtube.
It works, but has no real WVGA. Looks like it scales up.

Well, Skyfire is a miracle. It loads flash videos three times as fast as my data connection is, so I can even watch youtube videos without buffering on EDGE, which would normally be impossible. It's twice to three times as fast as Opera.
There are still bugs and no real WVGA support, but it's already evident that the final product will indeed be kind of a miracle.
Btw, I've got sound on youtube.
I agree it is much faster than opera but this alpha version looks like crap compared to opera. They do need to make it real WVGA although I think I'll still use it in the mean time.
the best
Thanks man, you're great!
Cheers
better than opera and iE
Sweeet! I'm trying it right now!
Some feedback:
When I started it, the boot up of skyfire was looping between "check flight mode" and "Acquiring data connection"
I forgot that I was in flight-mode, so I switched to TF3D (minimizing skyfire) and switched off the flight-mode.
However the Data connection wouldn't turn on!
So I killed the process of skyfire, and then my data connection could turn on.
Then I started up skyfire again, this time with data connection on, but it got stuck at the "Preparing to load..." screen.
3rd try worked!

There are some things that throw me off:
1.he post says the pictures where taken with an 8525. I don't know of any canera phone that has that bright of flash.
secondly, why is there a glare from a flash on every part of the phone but the screen.
On one picture you can see what looks like a bad edge when editing.

Conspiracy?
No, wait that's not a flash in the sky, it's a flourescent light fixture. These pictures must have been taken in an office. The glare is from the light overhead and in one picture due to the angle you can actually see the next light fixture over.
HTC GUY works for HTC, he is an engineer and I would trust any pictures that he posts.

The only thing that throws that off is how the light concentrates to the left. Even our halogen lights at my office do not beam that direct. That is hitting the device like direct sunlight vs a flourescent light as they light more evenly.
But I dont care really, I just like the pics and how WM6 may/does look.

Engadget just posted some WM6 pics:

okay... so now we've seen the screen shots...how do i get wm6 on my excaliber?
Yeah, how do we get WM6 on our Dash?? I want this so bad!
almost everyone wants wm6. you'll just have to wait.
Hmmm, check out Geek's coverage...
http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2007Feb/lab20070207002377.htm
... that device looks quite familiar don't ya think?! It is confirmed... WMP6 is on the Dash... now will it come to us?!
http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/11/windows-mobile-6-out-supports-new-resolutions-too/
Looks like we're officially going to see WM6 on the Dash in the upcoming months. Can't wait!
WM6 is released in the wild...
People...not sure if this thread is still active but those who read this and want wm6 (all be it a beta) on their phone real bad will love this...
Do a little searching for it on ... i'm not sure if the rules allow this but it's harmless really..search the major torrent search engines and ye shall find it. How do I know? Look who created it ;p (Hint: This major torrent search engine starts with a "D"...come on if you can't figure that one out your shouldn't be upgrading your phone in the first place -hehe)
Anyways...this is a UI Test build and it's pretty darn stable. It's been running on my dash for over a week now and no major bugs. Windows Live screen is a tad buggy (when attempting to log into Live the home screen gives error message and you have to change back to another screen...it works some times but it's far from perfect). Full HTML email (exchange 2007 only and some webmail..like hotmail and verizon dsl email... give you full HTML messages). The OZ chat client finally includes Messenger in the selection. My Bluetooth headest is a moto HS810 and it works...just a bit buggy...
What else...Oh yeah office mobile (editing capability) are back! Word, Excel, and Powerpoint and they work great so far. The new IE browser does have a search on the cool new "homepage"...though I haven't really found the quit/exit option...I have to kill it through the task manager...
Last thing which may just be because this is Beta still but I noticed that more application memory was being used on the average without any programs running. On a fresh boot there is more memory, but after loading a few and even after shutting them all down through task manager the memory doesn't seem to go back up past 10,000KB free...if you get it that high your lucky. Activesync works great even in Vista's mobile control center thing.
The only thing that isn't working is the Tmobile account WAP page when attempting to access via the NEW WINWAP app...it stated that this version isn't supported yet and if you are a tester you need to call them up and register in order to access via this version)
All in all a great release for those who just can't wait anymore for the stupid thing to get released. However it's 100% confirmed that the Tmobile Dash will be getting this upgrade to its current users for free...thus why I don't feel bad that you can find it in the wild...
I take no credit for this being released in any way! I found it on some lowly forum in which I don't even remember where. It wasn't very easy to find so I am helping people find it so they can test it.
gee i wonder where that was.
it was posted here first!

The reason that the memory usage is so high is primarily because of the additional T-Mobile apps that intercept SMS's (for IM's, e-mail, etc), as well as My-5, and some other T-Mobile stuff.
I'm guess that they also may have changed the way memory management is handled in this, because even when i get down to near zero free, i can still do everything just fine, without any extra lag or error messages. It could be something like how Vista caches things in RAM and actually has a goal of filling up as much as possible with cached items (which is a good thing).
Hi all,
I've been a reader (lurker) of this forum since the 8125. I have a Hermes 100 from Cingular which I have played around with, as shown on this forum. I am trying to create a fast, multimedia phone, that runs on the Hermes. I am not a techie, like many of you who know how to program, but I do admire what you've done. I could use your help......
Recently, post the last HTC upgrade, I added Black Satin, the Iphone Slider, and SPB Shell 1.5 , Diary and Pocket Plus 4.0, just to see how things work. Some thoughts (and the questions for which I seek an answer).
Do like the Black Satin add-ons, though Black was never really my color, and the HTC Shell and Diary are nice (though with Pocket Plus, gets very bloated)...still, it runs very slow....how can I:
1. Find a basic HTC shell?
2. If I wanted to ad in an interface, would you suggest the SPB Shell 1.5 + Diary or do you think Pocket Plus 4.0 is smooth, fast and multi-talented?
3. Opera or Explorer?
4. I still cannot watch Youtube, and some websites that require flash to show videos do not like Macromedia 7.0 Flash..they say "upgrade!" Thoughts?
5. I downloaded and installed The Black Shadow Video Dial Configuration, to use 3G video phone calls. But, as I am on the Cingular network, neither my brother (with the Tilt, unlocked) or my Hermes can make video calls on the network. Advice?! This would be super cool.
6. Are there "optimal" cingular internet settings that allow fastest access, or unblocked ports for 3G vid calling, streaming etc?
7. what is the best solution in terms of Iphone like scrolling and unlock? I know 4.0 Pocket Plus has it...its just "ok"...I tried to install Slide2unlock, didn't work for me.
8. I also used RealVGA, but didnt' notice a considerable difference. Is it not there, or am I dreaming?
9. Finally, should I just sell this Hermes 100 (its a "new" refurbished one from AT&T, got it yesterday) and buy a Tilt, or can I do everything I want on this baby!? I've had this type of phoen for a half a year now.....
Wow, a lot of questions, and I know you folks could say "read the 500 pages of the forum"...trust me, I've spent hours in these threads. I would appreciate your help, and I've honestly been trying, but it gets a little too technical for me past installing Cabs and following instructions, to be honest. So, any help you can offer would be VERY greatly appreciated.
All the best, George
Ok, here are answers to some points of yours:
4) There is no flash enabled browser for Windows Mobile. Only workarounds exist for watching the flash videos off Youtube and similar pages. So you will not be able to see those pages in near future.
7)iPhone scrolling - I use fTouchFlo - it works in all of the programs but has its flaws, I use s2u2 on my Hermes with no problem. One more thing to note is that Hermes touchc screen is different form iPhone touch screen and what we have (including SPB scrolling) are workarounds that still need a time to mature.
8) RealVGA? You are missing the point - both Hermes and Tilt have QVGA screen - there is no way to get it to VGA (simply because your screen has four times less pixels than VGA screen). It will not work because it is intended for VGA devices not for QVGA we own.
This is a developer forum - if you want less technical focus you can head to HOFO or other fora... I know lots of people in here read a lot... but they do not seem to think about what they read and then they tend to have really stupid questions. If all you want is media phone go for iPhone - there will not be 3G functions - but the scrolling works - there is no hassle with third party applications and everything can be done in only one way - the Apple way. The WM platform lets you do much more but it comes at price - in here I think you should get your feet wet in some basic techie stuff other than installing CABS. Hope I helped at least little...
PS: I had a hard time being new to the WM too - it needs time - I think right now you do not know what exactly you can expect from your device.
Well, first of all:
Thank you for your reply. True, it is called XDA Developers....and I am, in fairness, not. And as for an Iphone, wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pool - I like the flexibility of this HTC WM6 phone I have...but frankly apart from some BASIC at the age of 9-11yrs, programming is not a forte ;-)
I'll try your solution to the scrolling.....and of course, I'll keep reading, but I figured (a. You folks know this stuff so well, and b). I can't be the first person to come in with these questions. After all, It's not like I'm not trying,...I flashed something like 20 roms yesterday testing them all out! - on that note, I love your benchmark thread.
Anyway, thank you for your help and the help of anyone else who gives it!
best, George
Ehhm to put some things straight...I know even less programming than you do I have a very same opinion of an iPhone - this thing can not be called "smart" phone at all. What you stumbled upon is the fact that there are two basic groups of users of our PDA phones - first ones are user tha want their phones just work - they are not interested why something does not work, they just want a certain standard to work and as long as it does they are happy. Second group is geeks like me (and the majority of users of this forum) that are just happy to upgrade their phones to whatever newer and try it out. The problem is that for example cooked ROMS have bugs/issues (not that official ROMs have none) - issues vary from small glitches, memory leaks, not functioning buttons to random hardresets. If you go way of the cooked ROMs usually you will have to spend more time with your devices than the first group of users just to fix glitches. The other thing is that cooked ROMs and applications there can enable you do much more with your phone - for example resource hogging HTC Home plugin was not intended for Hermes, touch scroll ability as well and we can continue - but folks over here made it possible - that is what makes this forum so great. Butif you choose to go this way you will have to read, read and read again - because nothing is perfect. Our devices have limitations too - hermes processor has computing power roughly equal to Pentium 100 MHz (that is over ten years old processor for desktops) - so some tasks are hard to be adapted (that is why most of the programs we use are watered down versions of desktop programs - as well as screen size is quite limiting for browsing and so on - if you want a VGA screen than you have to count with: your device being a tad slower (4x more data to be displayed over QVGA) and also bigger battery drain (4x more pixels to power up). Said that you can get some of the things you ask for in your questions, but some are still a challenge...
Use vtap for youtube viewing. Just google it.
Opera. Definitely Opera.
Well, AT&T does not support video calls so unless you go out of the country its useless to you. Besides, your phones dont even have the front facing camera, so it would be hard to do anyways.
Mcorrie:
Thanks, I think right now, I am at:
1. A Basic Shell for speed and customization (not sure which yet)
2. Web Browser: Opera
3. YouTube Browser: VTap
4. Scrolling: TouchFlo or s2u2
5. Additional Scrolling: Possibly Touch Commander
6. Maps: Google Maps
7. Wifi Searching: WIFIFOFUM
8: Microsoft Office
9. Phone Dialer (includes 3G Video??): Unknown
10. Camera/Video Program: Unknown
11. Media Player: Unknown
As for Video Calling, I figured there was a way to bypass the Cingular restrictions, but I have not found it yet. After all, it is a pipe...so it should be possible, right?
Some more from me:
4. Scrolling: TouchFlo or s2u2 (s2u2 is only for unlocking! no other scrolling so you can use both))
5. Additional Scrolling: Possibly Touch Commander or Slither's Flash cube (the same effect, but free)
9. Phone Dialer (includes 3G Video??): Schen's Kaiser dialer 2 (or something like this)
10. Camera/Video Program: CoolCamera - this one is commercial, but best there is
11. Media Player: TCPMP 0.81 - freeware plays nearly everything: audio video, with plugin even .flv and so on...
Karhu,
Dakujem for the additions: I am also adding Radio 1.48 as that seems to be the most stable for Brooklyn, NY according to a June report....I'm going to test myself, but as of now:
1. A Basic Shell for speed and customization
2. Web Browser: Opera
3. YouTube Browser: VTap
4. Scrolling: TouchFlo and s2u2
5. Additional Scrolling: Slither’s Flash Cube or Touch Commander
6. Maps: Google Maps
7. Wifi Searching: WIFIFOFUM
8: Microsoft Office
9. Phone Dialer (includes 3G Video??): Schen's Kaiser dialer 2
10. Camera/Video Program: CoolCamera
11. Media Player: TCPMP 0.81
Now, I just need to figure out what else needs to go in this thing! Trying to avoid bloat, but don't want to leave out needed functionality! I think maybe I'll find someone's mostly stripped down Rom and just add in - its a start.
More comments:
I think if you are looking for less bloated system you should stick with basic WM5/6 look - Wisbar advance that can customize the whole look of the system runs on the top of the basic shell and thus takes up some precious RAM space. The same goes for bells and whistles like s2u2 or slither's Cube - function of s2u2 is to lock/unlock the device - but a part of the program runs in background as a service and consumes 200k of RAM even when you use the device - it is not much but as you proceed to customize the device the amount of bloat grows.
I think you should also look for some decent task managers: I personally like wktask and Quickmenu, but pBar is also nice. HTC xButton is quite a bloat in this matter. You should think what is the main purpose you will use your phone for - CoolCamera is nice but due to hardware limitation of the Hermes those pictures will always look....like taken by a phone.
When it comes to extra lite ROMs beware - they tend to have memory leaks and some Super storage ROMs even random bricking - hardreset needed to make them work again.
Several other variants:
Peek Pocket in wifi scanner (just one small exe)
Core Player instead of TCPMP (Core player is the commercial succesor of freeware TCPMP)
You should also consider some backup program if planning to fiddle more with your phone:
If you want to save your messages, mails, contacts and stuff go for free PIM Backup.
Hope that helps a little
1. Find a basic HTC shell?
What do you mean? If you want HTC TouchFLO-like shell (the basic one is TouchFLO 2D), get ThrottleLauncher. You can install TouchFLO, but you need to flash your ROM. You also can use Spb Mobile Shell 2 with Diamond theme (search Diamond theme for Spb Mobile Shell in xda-developers forum)
UPDATE : Now it's possible, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541750 It's the TouchFLO 2D from HTC Touch2 (HTC Mega).. Download the "PATCHED MANILA FOR WM6.1 and non-HTC devices" if you have 6.0 or 6.1
2. If I wanted to ad in an interface, would you suggest the SPB Shell 1.5 + Diary or do you think Pocket Plus 4.0 is smooth, fast and multi-talented?
Spb Mobile Shell!
3. Opera or Explorer?
I usually use Explorer for short time browsing, and Opera Mobile for long time or serious browsing, because we must wait for about 5 seconds for Opera to boot up
UPDATE : With Opera Mobile 10, the Opera is not slow anymore, I'm currently using Opera Mobile 10 as my only and favourite browser on my Hermes..
4. I still cannot watch Youtube, and some websites that require flash to show videos do not like Macromedia 7.0 Flash..they say "upgrade!" Thoughts?
Download the YouTube app, you cannot view on the Windows Mobile browser..
UPDATE : With SkyFire browser, you can..
7. what is the best solution in terms of Iphone like scrolling and unlock? I know 4.0 Pocket Plus has it...its just "ok"...I tried to install Slide2unlock, didn't work for me.
Upgrade your Windows Mobile to Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5
UPDATE : Use Slide2Unlock2 (S2U2), it works on my Hermes (running official WM6 ROM)
8. I also used RealVGA, but didnt' notice a considerable difference. Is it not there, or am I dreaming?
Hermes's screen is QVGA (320x240), so you cannot force Windows to view VGA (640x480)
9. Finally, should I just sell this Hermes 100 (its a "new" refurbished one from AT&T, got it yesterday) and buy a Tilt, or can I do everything I want on this baby!? I've had this type of phoen for a half a year now.....
No, I think Hermes' body is more sturdy than the Tilt (Kaiser)
Epic necro. Another month and a bit and you'd have had 2 years!
Timing is everything when replying to a thread. Especially when it's almost 2 years old!
I stumbled upon a new Mobile Browser for our HTC Dash, its called UCWEB Super Browser v6.0.1. While it is still a Beta, it is very stable (has not crached or froze up yet and I've been using it for a few days), it is very fast, has TONS of options and well (I hate to say it) is a bit better then Opera Mobile. It works flawlessly with Google (like Googles new "my location" feature on mobile search, GMail and others where Opera does not work or only half works. Security is very good and its fast as heck in rendering (it renders pages on the device not a remote server) pages and gives you the option of preformating to your devices screen size.
A quick feature summery:
Main Features:
• FREEWARE - Its free cant get better then that
• Adaptation for small screen
• Data traffic statistics
• Visited history
• Domain name quickly input
• Supporting multi-formatted file
• Supporting web local-storage
• Multi-windows browsing
• Page dynamic optimization
• Picture optimizing display
• Shortcut Keys (user defined)
• RSS Feed Subscriptions
• Built in E-mail Client for POP3 and IMAP, full support for attachments
• Comprehensive search features (user definable)
• Download Manager - Resume broken download connections
• Personal Data Manager - Saves web sites to your device, export bookmarks
All in all I give it a solid 9 out of 10 (and its still in Beta)
Check it out here: UCWEB Super Browser v6.0.1 beta
Download the Windows Mobile 5 and 6 CAB file here: UCWEB Super Browser for WM 5 & 6
Crashes Dash on first try will install to phone mem and give a try.
No such luck just shows a black bar @ top and crashes phone
I can't get it to load after installing the cab. Freed up memory and closed everything in task. Hmmm when I get time I'll try again. I checked out the website and phone model not supported. They have a generic option. What phone did you select Keith?
I download the HP -> iPAQ 512 and installed fine.
Could be that the cab Keith upload got corrupted.
*Thanks to NRG for suggesting compatible phone to Dash*

Which one did you go for as there is 2 with different file names?
http://wap.ucweb.com/dl_platform/publish/scripts/mobiledetail.php?project_code=100&mobileid=3000
Or could you just media share the file please.
Thanks in advance
Honestly...you're not hip to the Chinese language?? wow
I honestly flipped a coin and picked 2. lol
Here you go
Update: Although playing with it, not knowing if that is the right picking, it is a bit buggy.
I installed the generic, Java. I like that a whole lot better.
Maybe Keith can enlighten us on picking the right phone for our Excaliburs.
Yeah I installed the java generic earlier today and it worked fine but the Chinese is a killer. It makes you crave rice...
It's quicker than skyfire but not so sure it's faster than mini.
I'll try the HP cab.

Nice one, how did you know which Java one to get? Or was it lucky dip again?
Look @ this for a translation http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translat...pts/webcommon.php&lp=zt_en&btnTrUrl=Translate
rather funny
i didnt download the cab
i did it through wap site on phone
I saw "English" and clicked on it and it translate the steps.
Any idea if this works over t-zones??.....
Visit the wap site with your phone http://wap.ucweb.com . I downloaded mine directly from the wap site and it autodetected my Dash (I run 6.1 Kav by the way) and I had no problems. The above CAB is for WM 5 or 6, I guess it looks like it wont work on 6.1 or perhaps the CAB got messed up on upload.. I'll reupload it.
this is what you want right?
the Dopod 720w is the same as the Dash so this is the version you want am i correct?
also acording to translation the first download link is the most current version where as the second link is last stable.
I find that the fist link does not work however the second link works. (as far as running the programm goes)
i must also say its very beautiful nice find, its fast like opera mini but functional like skyfire of corse sacrific on both but meets in the middle somewhere.
The English version works fine on my HTC Touch Pro (Raphael). Up to yesterday, the file name for HTC Diamond (should be OK for Touch Pro I believe) is:
UCWEB6-61-300-31-08081214.cab
Chinese HTC is re-branded as Dopod or 多普达, Touch Diamand is calleds900.
I love the browser not just because I speak Chinese but for its unmatched features that not found with other browsers. But I don't put all my eggs in one basket, BTW.
It can use vodafone's 3G high speed Internet or Wifi (not USB with ActiveSync ).
The function that I would like to have in future versions is Flash!
Thx for the info on ucweb
thx bupahs ucweb is awesome i like it more than opera mini, more options plus when i edit my cpr file my font is the font for all applications in ucweb ,cool
It took me several tries to get the right version from their website. First I should have scrolled down to where I could switch the language to English. Instead, I downloaded the first one that appeared to be for a Windows Mobile SP. It turned out to be the latest Chinese version and even the chinese characters wouldn't show up on my phone.
Then I installed a Windows version, but I got warnings that it wasn't for my phone. It worked anyways, but I did want to get rid of the warning so I tried again. I recall someone mentioning that the HTC Dash and the Dopod C720W are the same. So I found that particular version and it is really fast! It's amazing as well that it's running natively and not as a Java App.
Uninstalling the other incorrect versions didn't go so smoothly though. The icons remained in Start/Programs. Therefore, I restored my phone from an earlier backup and then reinstalled the UCWeb browser.
Thanks again for this great find!
Thank you,
Tim
Screenshots are a must!!!!

Opera Mobile 9.5 beta known issues
# ActiveX is disabled - Flash plugins and embedded video streaming do not work.
# Custom software keyboards (IME) will be buggy at best, not working at worst.
# No multilingual build - Only English is supported. Problems with other languages (and input methods) are not unexpected.
# Installation on memory cards may cause problems.
# Text wraps in overview mode.
# Main testing has been done on English HTC devices (Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch, Touch Dual, Touch Cruise, TyTN and Wizard) and Samsung i900.
# Landscape mode does not take keyboard position into consideration.
# Devices with low memory might get Out Of Memory (OOM) messages.
# Opera is always running when the Widgets Manager is running.
# On devices with hight DPI some of the pre-installed widgets look small.
# When an URL is opened from a widget, there will be an extra browser window opened in the background that's not working properly.

Your comparing apples to oranges guy.
so it still doesn't work well with cistom sip. while the page is loading it does,t scroll and pan properly.
any build dump from devices?
wow, this version look REALLY awesome!! the speed is just phenomenal!
this is probably already known, but the deault windows mobile sip always popps up when editing texts, instead of the htc sip. can anything be done with this?
EDIT:
you said this version has no multilingual support. this is great for me (for compatibility purposes) and i might want to do that with other builds too. can you tell me how you removed that support? or is it just inside the build, and that's the way it came?
i have created a workaround for the default keyboard issue popping up.
what you need to do is just disable the "Keyboard" sip, and the opera wouldn't be able to use it anymore, thus not changing your selected sip.
note you wouldn't be able to use the "Keyboard" sip anymore, until you uninstall the workaround.
tested on touch pro only.
just install and SR after.
enjoy.

Hey guys,
I installed this beta and tried to use SSMaPa to replace the Opera icons and what-not on TouchFLO however it has back fired badly. My Opera now does not seem to load properly at all, can I unstall the Opera that comes pre-installed and replace it with the new Beta? Thanks in advance.
Any help on this?
Just install the new version
Ola,
Just install the new version ignore any error msg. Softreset en run Opera. If opera is allready there you got now 2 seperated versions
That's works for me.
And for you... Fingers-x
Let us know if it works or not.

Odd that now Opera (default) has taken over the Beta so I don't have the Beta at all. Can I remove Opera from the system and then use the Beta?
Windows Media plug-in?
With other versions of Opera I have been able to stream and listen to Windows Media content through embedded plug-ins on webpages. With this version the plug-in is replaced with the text "Plug-in content" and nothing happens.
Anyone got any clue as of how I might fix this?
Thanks
Hi,
Is there any trick for having the zoom wheel enabled on HTC Touch Pro / Raphael?
Thx.
I am also very interested in the flash plugin. In the original opera on the HD I could play flash contents as I had installed flashlite 3.1. However with this beta version I just get the placeholder "plugin content". If I go to "Settings / Advanced" the "Enable Plugins" box is checked.
Would really appreciate if anyone could come up with a workaround.
Regards

I saw this over at the dev section. Is there anyway to port the bookmarks from Opera Mini 4.2 and slap it onto the new Opera Mini 5.0?
It's great... some old features doesn't work...
But it's great... working as a speed of light.
Copy/Paste works
This is definitely best mobile browser..
Does anyone knows how to get trusted version?
Opera Mini 5 beta is now available
This is the day you've all been waiting for! Opera Mini 5 beta is hereby ready for download.
As you know, we've been working on this version for quite a while. When you see the end result, we're sure you'll think the waiting was worthwhile. To download, go to http://m.opera.com/next, but please note that phone support varies from previous versions of Opera Mini.
Some key features:
* New, sleek design
* Tabbed browsing
* Password manager
* Inline text editing
* Copy-and-paste function
* We have made a special, native version for BlackBerry which includes opening links and copy-and-paste functions
Known issues:
* No Android version yet, but we're working on it
* All Palm devices will have to stick with 4.2, as they aren't capable of running 5
* Downloads, feeds and Opera Link are all disabled in the Beta while we polish the implementation
* Devices with little memory may have problems, in general, and some may not be able to run Opera Mini 5 at all.
* Devices with small resolution (less than QVGA, 240 в 320) are not recommended to try the beta
For more info, please read the press release
As always, we welcome your feedback in our forum, and please report any bugs in our bug report wizard. Thanks!
Enjoy Opera Mini 5 beta!
Best regards,
The Opera Mini team
How can you install this version over the version that's already installed?
Because last time I installed an other version of Opera I suddenly had two opera versions installed....
Nobody has an answer on the above????
And I have some problems with the HW keyboard on the X1. When trying yo type a number on my HW keyboard, bij selecting Fn and then press the number, this just don't work. I then get a letter instead of a number.
Also sometimes I have to load a page twice to get it loaded the way I want.
But overall way fater then the previous versions.
just uninstall the older version
That's not realy a solution, that's just getting back to the older version.
With Opera mini it just sits in the Java app thingy, so you can have multiple versions installed.

+ 1 for skyfire. If the scrolling was as smooth as Opera I'd go as far as calling it the best mobile browser.
I tried out Skyfire but was pretty disappointed with their screen resolution, at least on my TyTN II. Text came out somewhat blurry, not sharp enough. Opera Mini on the other hand rendered great, and is still hands down the lightning-quickest browser I've ever used.
+1 Opera Mini
