[APP]Blackstone Video Encoding GUI - Touch HD Themes and Apps

Hello,
There is a video encoding GUI, which allows you to easily get high quality video on the blackstone without requiring third party software to view it.
The thread is now in the Development & Hacking forum, since the program applies to more devices than just the Blackstone.

how many of you use Divx Mobile to view avi/Divx files?

8GB micro SD cards are very cheap in Hong Kong - so I don't bother coverting files to mp4 or whatever that's compatible with HD. Instead, I just copy the whole seasons of TV series into HD and use it as PMP (my Archos 605 just died)
Getting Divx Mobile was easy enough (just have to register & download). But I noticed that it takes a while (lag) to skip. Also, when in full screen, it was grainy (pixexls) - not sure this is due to poor quality of original file (downloaded bt)...
Any other suggestions? I don't mind paying - but want the best video quality possible.
p.s. don't worry about battery life either: US$20 for a spare battery and I'm never far from a outlet (HK is just so tiny)
try coreplayer..
Try Coreplayer. its the best video player ive found so far. much faster then divxplayer
coreplayer is best. And htc's graphics are excellent

Like all the above posts....Coreplayer, the only app you need to view those common video formats.
I have found coreplayer to be very laggy myself....Media Player plays my HD files with no issues at all......I never could understand all the fuss
Coreplayer does not support grafic accelerator of HD. Native video player is better with suitable video properties.

I agree...!!!
actually I am a bit confused (very confused I think...)
I downloaded that Encoder - but it seemed like a tool for converting the formats (not a software installed on HTC to play movies) Correct me if I am wrong. So how does that help in anyway?? I am using core now (found a cab version with flash support - so it seemed convenient so far)
I'd like to try Encoder - I have seen many knowledgeable ppl talking about it so I must be missing something here... Why does converting help?? What does "native player is better" mean?? And how does Encoder make use of HTC hardware accelerators if it isnt even installed on HTC????
pls help...

Latest HTC devices have good video capabilities but 3rd party video players do not support this hardware (yet).
Album or Windows Media Player are meaned by native video player. But they have also some limitations naturally. You should have compatible frame rate and bitrate to get maximum performance.
So, the best way to see good video on Touch HD is to convert any video file with proper settings and watch it by album or Windows Media Player.
now i get it... tried it last night on SD setting. My 350MB file converted into 200MB file and played beautifully on Album.
thx guys for helping me see the light

How to play more than one video consecutively..?

Hi Folks,
Is it possible to play a number of video snippets consecutively like the "Slideshow" for images. I tried to multiselect videos in the album, but to no avail.
Perhaps I need some 3rd party S/W..??
It is just a bit of a pain going back to each individual shots especially when you have about 10 little shots..
Thanks in advance,
Sam
uhm... coreplayer?
Yes I was wondering about Coreplayer, but I see that it is not yet officially supported for TP2 although I see some folks have been using it...
I wonder, for those that have used it on the TP2, whether it produces smoother playback than the default HTC video player?
Thanks,
Sam
Coreplayer isn't supported because due to lack of drivers, it can't take advantage of Qualcomm's hardware acceleration.
This means that from what I understand, it has better xvid playback but for h264/mp4 files the built in wmp and album are better.
Thanks for this.
Is Album different to WMP, I thought it might just use the underlying WMP??
Also I guess, from the lack of ideas, that consecutive play of videos is not possible??
Thanks,
Sam

[Q] Video Transcoding Settings?

I'm traveling next week, and thought I'd transcode some .wtv TV recordings from Win 7 Media Center to take with me. Will probably use DVRMSToolbox, because it knows how to work with wtv files natively. I might use something else if it's too much of a pain in the neck, as a lot of other programs work fine with the older dvr-ms container and Win 7 will natively switch a file from wtv to dvrms.
I figured I'd transcode to h.264, but was trying to decide on video resolution and bitrate. I'd tried some mkv's at 800x480 a few days ago and they stuttered a bit much for my liking, so I had ended up lowering the resolution to what I use for a ZuneHD (480 wide) to smooth that out. They didn't look quite as sharp, but played back smoothly.
So what have you guys found to work well?
Tried to search, but searching for transcoding got me a post about VLC streaming, and searching for video settings got me fps lock stuff
again...
Andy S,
There are many threads on this, on multiple forums. Please search thoroughly before posting.
That being said, I personally transcode with mpeg-4, as I have noticed less stutter vs h.264, at 720 horizontal. I don't specify a bitrate, I prefer specifying a target file size. I'm watching the content on a 4 inch screen, not an HDTV, so this is satisfactory. Side note - Froyo sped things up quite nicely. These settings work very well for me, though I apply them to DVD's I rip, not DVR recordings. YMMV.
Thanks for the response. As I said, I did several searches with no easily found answers specific to the Evo.
I went through 5 pages of that with no answer to my specific question. Lots of general stuff for other devices, some stream transcoding via VLC, DLNA, etc. My searching probably is deficient.
Sorry if I offended.
Andy S-
No worries, this is a Q&A forum after all. It's just that there are certain subjects that come up frequently, and it gets old.
Do the community a favor though, and post the results of your transcoding work, as well as the settings/apps you used. I am certain others will find the info handy, as I haven't seen any posts on transcodes from W7MC recordings.
This thread had some interesting info:

Will do. The 7MC just uses a .wtv container, which in most cases is MPEG2 inside as would be brought in via the tuner, although in Europe it could be h.264 because the container now supports it (the previous dvr-ms didn't). I think it supports .aac, mp3, and AC3 audio. It also has good meta data support.
So it's nothing fancy inside, it's just not a lot of software support the container very well. I don't think MS has it very well documented for developers.

[Q] More files playback support

I was just wondering if anyone one is making a custom media player for windows phone 7. It would be nice to ba able to play avi and other video format like yxflash does for iphone and android.

There's a few reasons this won't happen without an MS update:
1. No way of getting files onto the device
2. WP7 by default only supports this list of codecs, which afaik Zune copies directly onto the phone without encoding for playback anyway.
3. No native code, so pretty much no existing codec libraries can be used
Unless, of course the devs here can work out an unrestricted way of running native code!
It's not, actually, 100% true.
1. You can get files to the app's isolated storage file. Of course you need some additional desktop/web solution for that. Also, you can play streaming video in different formats: rtp, fragmented mp4, LiveStreaming etc.
2. Fortunately WP7 supports H.264 for video. For most cases it's enough (you just need a proper container parser).
3. Yes, it's a minus but the custom MediaStreamSource, 1 GHz CPU, lot of RAM and possibility to port java code to C# give you a good chances ;-)
P.S. 4 example, I can play a lot of containers including avi/mp4/mkv. But I can't share/publish code - it's not my own property...

Of course with workarounds, anything is possible!
This won't happen though, because nobody is going to be able to port enough decoders to a MediaStreamSource implementation to make it a viable playback solution like,e.g. VLC
Plus I sure wouldn't want half my media going through a webserver for obvious reasons
And I would say that while h264 is quite prominent now, XviD playback would be the main codec
Probably, home based video streaming solution (using Apache + third party SmoothStreaming implementation, http://smoothstreaming.code-shop.com/trac/wiki) will be good. Not too hard to implement but very hard to sell

[Q] ffmpeg/ffplay 2.1 subtitle support

I'm sorry if i'm opening a new thread, but i seem unable to write on the mentionated topic
I've installed ffmpeg 2.1 that'ive found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368706
Play of mkv files are really fine, even in full screen, but i'm unable to display subtitles.
I'm pretty sure ffplay recognize the track (i can see it the streams list) but neither the "-sst #" switch
nor pressing the "t" key allow me to display the subtitles. Of course i'm sure that the mkv has the
subtitles inside, cause VLC on a x86/x64 machine i can read them perfectly.
Am i missing something or the ported ffplay lacks the ability to read/display subtitles.
Thanks in advance
A little bit off topic: can you use ffmpeg to do screen capture?
