Dell Axim X5 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Is it a newer operating system like WM 5 or 6 possibly for this device to install and how do I this?
Modell: Dell Axim X5
CPUXA255 400 MHz
Flash: 28F192 / 48MB
RAM: 64 MB
ROM-Version: A01 (07190300GE)
BS-Version: 4.20.1081
Thank you for your help.

The X5 doesn't have a chance of supporting WM5, much less WM6. Dell last made a WM2003 rom, but if you really cared enough to make a rom for one, WM2003 SE would probably the last pocket Windows Mobile os that could work with the X5.

Thank you for your answer. What would change at an upgrade of WM2003 on WM2003SE, then?Rewards itself bring for this upgrade it by and where one gets such a ROM, then?

WM2003SE AKU ROM upgrade for HP h4150

Looking to update current HP h4150 to include Windows Media 10 (easy sync with Media Center)...
but only comes with WM2003SE AKU ROM or WM5. Believe that current 64MB ROM is too small for WM5 (maybe Lite version will work) and A2DP does not seem to be working per other posts (using Khozura ROM).
Any ideas?
I've tried loading other HP ROMs (hx2000, hx4700) but they check to see that my device ID does not match the ROM and can't proceed. Any way to get around this?
WM5 ROM fit in 64MB ROM?
Will WM5 ROM fit in 64MB on a HP h4150? Is there a "lite" version?
I see ROMs for hx2000 and hx4000 units but none for the h4000. Is this due to those units having the PXA-270 processor which supports Direct3D Mobile?
At least I'm simp[ly trying to get Windows Media Player 10 on my unit. Maybe someone can recommend another media player that syncs well with a Media Center desktop and supports TV programs/videos.

Dell Axim x51v

Hi
My axim is playing up so i thought that rather than reinstall the current os i would go to version 6.
however i have noticed there are a few different version floating around is one more recommended over the others or are they all pretty much all of the same.
thanks
I use my x51v only TrueVGA mode and find LennySh's latest the best for me.

HP IPAQ H4100 series (4150), wm6 upgrade question

Hi.
Im intrested if is possible to upgrade h4100 with wm6 OS.
Now is default w2003. If is, can someone send link or something tutorial how to do it...
THX
I found answer....
The H4150 hasn't enough memory to install WM5/6 on it, at least 64MB ROM is needed, your device only has the following:
ROM capacity: 32 MB (accessible: 2.8MB)
RAM capacity: 64 MB (accessible: 55MB)
There isn't even a WM2003SE upgrade available for your device so you're stuck with WM2003.

It is NOT the truth. A WM5 demo machine is actually built with 32MB ROM.
It is just something for HP to defense.
Sadly this is one of the best machine in terms of hardware.
hopefully if someone can put linux on it.
Any updates on this?? I also have a 4100 series Ipaq...(4155) that I'd like to upgrade.
Thanks,
Rudi
sorry to all
but i bel that i had seen wm5 available for hp 4150 on this page (not free)but a long time ago
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...esId=349042&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1087
and now they have changed that page
Any news or solutions?
I have an ipaq 4155 as well and wanted to know if anyone cooked a 5.0 or 6.1 rom for it?
Nope stuck to the end
Linux on iPAQ
You can try this .angstrom-distribution.org/2007-12-images-h2200-h3900-h4000-hx4700 if you don't mind using linux on iPAQ.
Sorry the link is not working. I have got also h4100, and want to try something new on it
my fault. just add www.
It's pity that hp 4100 is dead... But the last chance is to use sd card as system memory...

Dell Axim X50 WM6.1 ROM (//MG)

The Second Step: Porting XIP section.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The First Step: Testing Tools. Completed!!!
WM5 A02 Modifed ROM - test it!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't have device for testing and need your help. Test it!
You need Dell Axim X50 PDA with installed WM5 A02 ROM (with A02 Bootloader)!
Flashing:
1) Unpack files from archive into root of FAT32 SD-Card.
2) Insert the SD-Card into your Axim and start the SD Image Loader by Pressing Wireless + Power + Reset
3) The Image Loader will search for flash images on your SD-Card.
4) Press the action key twice, this starts the update process.
5) After the process is finished you will be asked to hard reset your device. Follow this instruction and wait for the OS to load.
Thank you! Can make a x51 ( not x51v) machine rom?

Holy Cow!!! Maglite, how the heck were you able to fix the broken modules??? I've been working for over 6 months on trying to fix it and I haven't found a fix yet. If I remember correctly for the X50v rom, you had someone help you. Who helped you fix the rom??? Although, I must say that you've been very helpful getting me started with a functional rom (without errors). Might I mention that this is apparently not for a X50(low).
Wow, just...
Talk about being blindsided. If this works, it gives me big hope for a possible WM6/6.1 for my extra x51 I've got. Been trying to get an x51v recently to finally get away from the x50v I keep using (damned NOR memory is just killing it), and I happened to find a nice x51 on Craig's List for cheap with some extra batteries and chargers and cradles too.
But wow... outstanding work, even if I don't have an x50 to test it out and offer bug reports.
Now I'm curious if someone can do an x51 WM6/6.1 ROM finally... this is very promising work, MagLite, and I for one thank you even so. Congrats...
I might be inclined to make a decent WM6 rom for X51 since Lenny has neglected to provide this (even though he did try a test rom).

I build/make ROMs for more devices than I can count now. And it helps to have a device. My WM6.1 problem on X51 is an XIP problem, and I hate trying to troubleshoot that problem without a device close at hand. My upload is too slow (50kbps) to keep upping ROMs for ppl to test. I'd love to release one, it's easy to build them, just testing is hard without a device! You get me a device, and I can have you a ROM within the week! I did the same for the X50v.
Nice release Mag!
I would gladly donate my X50 (Mid) for dev purposes, if it were to come back to me with a fancy WM6/6.1 ROM when it is done. It is currently on A02, I believe - fresh from a reset.
As long as it'll be back within... say, 6 months. PM and we'll talk.

Do you mean to test this ROM or install your original 6.1 ROM after installing this?

Test this rom. First beta of WM6.1 don't works, frezzing on booting xip section.
The WM A02 modifed ROM loaded sucessfully. The ROM responds much faster than the other WM5 ROMs I have tried. So far, I have had no errors or freezes. Wifi and bluetooth work as well. Is there anything specific in the ROM you would like me to check?
Thanks for a working base Maglite. Now I can really do some major rom building (time permitting when away from school). Next, I need a working rom base for the X50(low) WM5 A02 rom.
I'm trying to update my Axim now....
I'll report back in a few....
EDIT: Back, and nothing is smoking. Just WM5. Anything special I should play with?

I would guess what MagLite wants to know is: would you say the performance is equal or better than using WM2003SE on it, the factory ROM?
Have you tried any video playback using TCPMP or whatever to make sure it's functional (a benchmark would come in handy too, it's accessed from File - Benchmark and then play a minute or two of video and report the results listed for Average Speed at the top of the list of statistics would come in handy.
If you can/could run that pre-WM5 ROM it would tell him/us the difference in performance between the ROMs, at least in terms of video playback which tends to be the most demanding thing a PDA can really do.
It's what I use as the baseline for testing on my own PDAs...
I don't think you can test the WM5 A02 rom fairly, because Maglite hasn't fixed the biggest problem that's been plagueing WM5 on the X50 series since the beginning.
You can't fix something that technically isn't broken, yanno. The x50 series has NOR type memory, that's how it was designed, that's how it works, and once you accept that you'll come to realize it's not broken: they work exactly as they're designed to work. The x51 series uses NAND, so Dell went back to the drawing board and improved that aspect of their PDAs. Sure, I'd love to have an x51v, but so far I've never found one for a price I could afford (I keep finding x50v models for $100 or less, but the x51v is always $175 or more, pisses me off).
So no, there's nothing MagLite, or Lenny, or Microsoft, or even Dell at this point can "do" for the x50 series because technically they work perfectly as designed.
Having said that, if MagLite can get his x50v WM6 A02 ROM and find the 0 pagepool mod for it (like the way Zeus_Alex modded that specific ROM), and then apply that (the 0 pagepool mod) to that x50 WM6 or 6.1 ROM above (note I'm being specific here and talking about the x50 ROM) then we could end up with an x50 WM6/6.1 ROM that's just as fast and snappy as the x50v ROM I'm using on my x50v right now.
I have a spare x50 and an x51 - the non-VGA non-Intel graphics Axims and I'd love to get WM6 on them, I just don't have the time to modify and cook ROMs, so I appreciate the effort these folks like MagLite, Lenny, and all the others put into creating ROMs.
So, MagLite... I think if this x50 ROM works (I haven't had a chance to test it, might not be able to do it since my x50 and x51 are in storage and I'm pretty busy these days, can't make the trip to the storage place), and you can make that 0 pagepool edit for it, I'll bet the performance improves dramatically.
Your WM6 A02 ROM for the x50v with Zeus_Alex making the 0pp edit gives me the best performance of any ROM I've ever used on my x50v, even faster than WM2003SE, and even with the known filesys.exe issue. It's just wicked evil fast and the battery life is fantastic, and I really can't say why. All I know is it works and it's hella fast, period.
Thanks, and have fun, always...
Done (with AS alive, but not cabled up):
Average Speed: 221.15%
Video Frames: 5015
Audio Samples: 8895622
Amount of Data: 34000 KB
Bench. Time: 1:30.708
Bench. Frame Rate: 55.29
Bench. Sample Rate: 98071
Bench. Data Rate: 3.0Mbit/s
Original Time: 3:20.599
Original Frame Rate: 25.00
Original Sample Rate: 44100
Original Data Rate: 1.3Mbit/s
I have no idea what is 'good' for this benchmark.
I haven't had 2003SE on this X50 for a long time, an don't feel like downgrading. I had good experiences with WM5 from the start. The only issue was it doing a hard reset once in a while, when running out juice (wasn't WM5+ supposed to stop that?).

X50v with WM6 Classic - I want the latest and greatest

I want my PDA to be able to run really quickly and work with WIFI and everything [2GB microSD>SD card, 1GB CF card].
I received a X50v as a gift. I don't know much about them. I can figure out how to format an SD card and hit key XYZ and install stuff, I think.
In system info:
Windows Mobile 6 Classic
CE OS 5.2.1908 (Build 18508.0.7.0)
...
...
Processor: Intel PXA270
Memory: 57.35 MB
Expansion Slot: In use
So should I upgrade?
Thanks!
Lotta help you lot were...
