Need a ROM / Kitchen [CDMA - Sprint] - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

So I just got a Touch Diamond for free because my Mogul died and Sprint was out of them. I used DCD's ROMs on my Mogul, loved them, I got loads of custom apps, skins, so on... I need a clean and simple WM6.1 ROM thats fast and easy. I run Skype, SPB Mobile Shell, Sprint Nav, Google Maps, Palringo and Gstreamer.
I love streaming media, I stream music from home via Shoutcast to my Truck while on the road, and use Browseamp as a way to control the tracks. Email / texts run into the hundreds a week.
I hope I dont ruffle any feathers making a thread for this, but I trust XDA's opinions and developers. I would love your input!

A great majority of the Diamond ROMs in this forum are for GSM phones, not CDMA and from what I have read, the two do not mix. In that you have stated your provider is Sprint, it is all but certain that your Diamond is CDMA.
You might search this forum for CDMA-specific offerings, or search for other forums that probably have more ROMs and Kitchens for CDMA Touch Diamond phones ... forums for PocketPC GEEKS like you and me.
Best regards,

Thank you. I am a member at PPCGeeks but not as active as I am here. I find it such contrast from the Mogul/titan board because those are all CDMA.

You can try Calkulin's excellent CDMA roms.
They are available on the PPCGeeks boards.

Question to all members...

After a deep thinking and consideration I thought I need to benchmark the market -or in this case the Forum. I have been having Jasjar (Universal) for quite sometime now and was not so sure whether I keep it or not.
Every span of couple of months new device is launched with this feature or that benefit. Many that have proved functionality and other proved to be a total disgrace to the ppc industry
And since I am a member in this forum for almost over a year now, I wanted to ask all -at least who will visit this thread- how many of those are using Universal and those who are using other devices ranked in this Forum? If any would -thankfully- be coming up with serious statistics of the wide use of Universal vs. other devices and brands this would definitely indicate the global domination of such device and the versatility not to mention that with the latest ROMs this device became more and more dearer to me as much it is to others -I reckon so!
I am sure this would help all those programmers to focus more on developing roms and apps compatible with Universal than others. I would ask anyone who reads this post to contribute in voting and comments would surely be appreciated.

Why not start a poll?
Universal
Hi Cyber-mate
To let you know; I do love my Universal and I'm using it 24 hours a day!
So I think I'm the first who answers your question
'Yeah... Lets start a poll'.
Cheers, Leo
Hi Cyber-mate
Have to say, I have persevered with the Universal, and that since the genius rom builders on here have cooked up some of their magic I am at last a happy Uni owner. I bought mine in Sep/Oct of 2005 and I can honestly say now I find mine usefull. I'm not a heavy user, but it is my main squeez (so to speak).
Regards
Mavrik
The reason there are so many devices, is because the market can support them as different people like different things.
There is no such thing as the best device, or the perfect device, it's what you think suits your needs the closest.
Currently, the Universal is the highest specification device, but soon the Athena will be out, but this is much larger, and not designed as a mobile pda phone, and also the Omni, which is the replacement for the Universal.
Really though, if you like your Universal, then great, if you don't, then listening to other people's views on what is good or bad will only confuse you.
We like the Universal, but there are many more that hate it.
I love my unversal too, and I think I keep it until I can get an Apple iPhone.
Or maybe I never change it to another device, because it has all thing in one, except GPS. But I can live without it, still we have BT GPS on the market.
Confused!!!...
Not sure what you want!!!...
Benchmark PDA? Yes I like my Universal!!!...
Benchmark Forum? Yes this is a good forum!!!... Of course, somethings are not allowed here but can be found somewhere!!!...
Benchmark self cooked ROM? This is definitely the best before WM6 starts to be banned!!!... If this banned forever, well one good thing less!!!...

You see CWKJ, there are 100s of opinions from 100s of poeple. However, being a person among a large comunity that consider Universal as a gr8 device that has got the all-in-one! I mean, just check any of those posts with a ROM related topic, you'd see more than 100k entries and with no doubt this indicate that it is widely used and YET proven to be a
top-of-the-list device.
I am sure many more would agree with me and to tell you the truth, Apple IPhone is a pansy one.
We are talking FUNCTIONALITY here and not looks and colors! A device that can connect wirelessly, bluetooth, camera, keyboard and many others proves to be a true Pocket PC.
And hey, one more thing, when we talk about a Pocket PC, we aint talking mobile phone, I mean apple to apple
Hi,
about the Universal, I have to say it's a wonderful device which can be very useful and helpful. Thanks to its VGA display you can browse Internet really well not like those other devices with smaller resolutions.
The "laptop alike" makes it again very useful to write anything, even long texts.
I think about it more like a little laptop replacement (...ok the OS is not really a good OS replacement but I guess this would change with Linux...). It's another way of PPC, since I got my Hermes (about two weeks ago) I see how it's different, I use the Hermes with just one finger (almost everything) while I don't use the keyboard too much....on the other hand with my Uni I almost did everything with the keyboard.
So now with these two devices I have to say I use the Hermes as an "stable" PPC and the universal to try every new ROM is created, I'm trying to learn how to cook them, etc so now I think I'm enjoying the Uni even more!

GPS activation coming!

First let me start off by saying thank you to everyone for all your great work and excellent posts, i have been a guest and member for a very long time but never need to post or had anything to contribute. thanks again now onto the GPS activation, i know this is a rather touchy subject for some so please dont bash if you disagree.
- I am switch from the 8525 (at&t) to the mogul (sprint) b/c i am saving 170$ although i loved my 8525. While learning and viewing the sprint forums for information about the mogul i found they have been having in depth conversation about the GPS.
1 - the gps is not believed to be stand alone
2 - the antenna issue from what i could read could or could not be there as sprint users took pictures on the phone and found what should be the gps antenna. but regard less when unlocked we should be able to A-GPS (a sort of triangulation between towers to give a approximate position).
3 - further proof that the gps must be able to work other than for emergency's is sprint's release of the EV-D0 rev. a ROM intended to unlock the gps in response to the TILT from ATT.
proof from HTC's site
"HTC is currently developing a separate ROM update which enables the EV-DO Rev. A and GPS capabilities that are already built into the Mogul hardware. Sprint and HTC plan to make this software ROM available in early 1Q 2008. We would also like to extend our thanks to those customers that have taken the time to identify and report these issues to us."
It would be my assumption but this is where i could be wrong and would like to open debate. the ROM should be able to be hacked allowing other hermes to unlock theyre GPS for use with other applications.
hope this excites some of you and gives you hope of one day getting your "gps enabled" or disabled hermes depending on how you look at it to work with tom tom or telenav etc..
omg,
i can´t believit, jejej.
If coming true, this will be the best notice i´ve heard about hermes.
Many thanks dsh897, i will follow this thread

(about 2/3 the way down the page)
Thats a great news indeed
I still doubt abt the possibility of unlocking GPS in our Hermes.
As do I unfortunately, but more than happy to be proven wrong
noobish questions...
may i ask why only for the mogul? Is this something all hermes owners can benefit from?
great!!!
I hope so
hermes ๆๆๆๆ
I am a little confused...... I thought it was widely agreed that it was not a software problem but a hardware problem..
Have I missed something ?
I thought this too - that there was no actual antenna hooked up to the GPS pins or something?
I am not sure what's the hardware similarities between hermes and mogul, but gps for hermes was discussed before...look in to this thread for more details

Yeah, I followed this thread at the time. Is the mogul a rebranded hermes or is it a different phone ?
from what i'm seeing the mogul hardware is similar to the tilt and not the tytn ( they carry the same processor).. this meens it's not compatible with the hermes..... i could be wrong

It looks that way it has a qualcomm prosessor instead of the samsung
Guys weve been here before, check the threads on this.
The GPS hardware has been woken up and functions correctly.....however the pins are not connected to a suitable antenna. The most i detected on the Hermes was 2 sattelites and these were not real fixes either.
A hardware mod is required to get the GPS working on the hermes which can be done however wouldnt it be easier to just grab a cheap bluetooth module and settle with it?
Here are link 1 and link 2 to the old GPS for Hermes threads. GPS driver link. And yes Hermes has Samsung processor, but Hermes' radio chip is made by Qualcomm And that is the chip that matters for GPS). But as Mr. Vanx said there is no available antenna.
maybe some people would be willing to do a hardware mod, if it can be done

That is very intresting, I'm intrigued to see if HTC rolls out a rom for Hermes like you describe (though I doubt it the Mogul has different chipsets, this issue has been explored at length in the forums). That said triangulation based GPS is already available for free for all windows mobile phones with the latest version of google maps, the thread is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=348310
Install the new map, and click the my location option (right button top option) it will provide you with your triangulated location and is usually pretty close.
Seeing as Sprint (and therefore the Mogul) and AT&T (Hermes) use totally different radio technologies, I'm surprised that no one mentioned this earlier.
The Hermes is a GSM phone, operating on the GSM cell systems around the world.
The Mogul, being a Sprint phone, should function primarily on CDMA, just like Verizon.
That said, the hardware differences alone (processor aside) should make this discussion moot in my opinion. You just can't use a CDMA radio ROM on a GSM radio... and I would be highly surprised if the Mogul and Hermes were anything more than just similar looking phones.
Just as a side note... Google Maps now works moderately well on the Hermes, even without a GPS. I'm unsure if this is due to AT&T adding location information or to GMM being able to figure it out, but my phone knows where it is when I run GMM.

I'd like to see a Blackjack II forum

Good afternoon. I've been a big fan of XDA-Developers since getting a Cingular 8525 and wanted to upgrade the phone with the latest skins and software. The forums are amazing, and I highly recommend them to everyone.
However, the Smartphones forums are a bit lacking. And after my 8525 died over Christmas, at just a year and 4 months old... I decided to go with a Smartphone for it's replacement instead of another 8525. Which means I now need help with GPS's for Smartphones, configuration, etc.
Would LOVE to see a Blackjack II forum added to the site. Best wishes!!!
Not manufactured by HTC = no1 gives a damn about it here.
I have to agree that it would be awesome to have and XDA-like forum for other non-HTC WinMo phones. I am sure there is a fair amount of interest in this too. It would be great if some founding members could start a sister site for phones by Motorola, Samsung, i-Mate, and others.
I know it would be a major undertaking but the WM community would love it.
Does anyone know of a site like XDA that already exist for other manufacturers?
I think it would be a great thread to have!!
This community is great and there are many helpful people on this board! It would be nice to have a spot for the blackjack II as so many fixes and apps are OS wide not just device specific!
And a note to capncucci, Lose the attitude, no one needs it. I for one would love a board as I passed up a Tilt to get the BJ II. And am very happy with my decision! So yes, there are others who "give a damn"
I just sold my Tytn and bought a BJII so I'm in.
Me too. I have searched all over for BJ II related threads and Info. MoDaCo has been great in this respect but it's not as in depth as I would like it. A dedicated hack and resolution thread would be ideal...
The GPS is crying out for a look see under the hood...it only works with minimal apps and needs a good serve of reverse engineering....But that's not all.
Hopefully it will take off. I have moved away from HTC products due to some reliability issues and ease of use...they still rock but aren't the be all and end all of phones. I moved from an AT&T 8525 to the BJII for the size, weight, and dedicated numeric keypad....
agreed. BJII forum would be cool.

but it's never going to happen, sorry.
You could try over at ppcgeeks.com. They already have a virtually unused Blackjack forum. It seems the knowledgebase there is mainly focused towards the HTC CDMA PPC phones (Apache and Titan).
I wish there was a BJ forum here too, this seems to be where all the people with technical knowledge hang out. I would like to port the BJII ROM into the old BJ.
i agree a bj2 forum here would be great. I understand that this is a HTC site but the blackjack 2 has alot of oppurtunity.
I found this forum yesterday:
http://www.blackjackusers.com/
I tried to join, but never received the activation email. It's mainly about the original BJ, but judging by the domain name, I'm guessing they'd be more than happy to open it up to BJ2 users. It's the only site I've found so far that even mentions (and offers links to) cooked ROMs for the original BJ so that's a good sign.
hey BJII users, can someone upload their SD card drivers please? us i760 users are having SDHC card issues and want to try yours out. We need
sdbus.dll
sdmemory.dll
they are located in the windows directory.

Vlingo on the NEW Tilt 2 ROM

So I have taken a look at the new AT&T Tilt 2 ROM. While it is not bad it is nothing like my favorite from here. It does come with "Vlingo" pre-installed" I have to say that I find the idea of spoken text messages quite attractive.
To that end I have been working on getting vlingo on to my XDA ROM. I have gotten it to launch but it gets stuck at the "Checking connectivity" phase.
I have found through packet sniffing that the AT&T ROM identifies itself to the VLINGO servers with the following info:
DeviceID=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (imei I think)
DeviceModel=HTC-ST7377
DeviceMake= (yes its blank)
DeviceOSName=WM_Pro
DeviceOS=5.2.21887
Language=en-us
Carrier=AT&T
CarrierCountry=310
My Cooked ROM is sending:
DeviceID=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (imei I think)
DeviceModel=HTC Touch Pro2 T 7373
DeviceMake= (yes its blank)
DeviceOSName=WM_Std
DeviceOS=5.2.21911
Language=en-us
Carrier=3G AT&T
CarrierCountry=310
On the energy ROM I am getting back:
Make=unknown
Model=unsupported
I found the reg entry in the phone for the model and changed it to match but its still puking with the above. I checked the sent info and its identical to the AT&T ROM info
Anyone that has been doing this longer than I have any ideas?
I realize the cooked ROM is going to have the wrong OS ver etc...

Yes they do. There is a leaked version of the Tilt 2 ROM updated to sense 2.5. It comes PRE-LOADED.
Further, you can DL it for the Samsung "Jack" and use it. I got it right off their site.
Interesting. There's no mention of a WinMo version on their site, just iPhone, Android, BB and a Samsung version. If it is leaked how did it end up in an official AT$T ROM? Or are you talking about a different new Tilt 2 ROM? I'm very confused.
Wow, Welcome to XDA!
Vlingo & AT&T have been partnered for voice apps for a few years now. The intention was in part to bring Vlingo support to AT&T's WM devices. Yes weird since we have all been waiting for some movement on tell me which started great, has support & the infrastructure to be a really good application. However we should have Tell-Me for WM by now, especially since MS bought them out & their website promises an app for WM users Fall 2009.
The voice recognition/server is pretty fair & responsive. MSVC is way outdated using API & technology that has not changed since 2002.
It is really ashamed that these (HTC/MS) fall behind the curve in making devices truly worthy of being called smart devices. I still have my Blue Angel, it is still faster than my Tilt, Tilt 2 & Fuze & basically has all the same functions, just prettier wrappers, which are contributions of Samsung or LG or HTC anyway. The biggest advances made in WM technology over the last decade is from OEMS. Even simply things like TTS & SRE for WM have been around for nearly a decade. Individuals & small developers make bigger impacts on my smart phone IQ then MS & its plethora of subsidiaries.
MSVC is so outdated & voice control should be a staple base function of any "SMART" device. I bought my device unlocked for like 600.00, while every my PS3 does everything & more for 349.00 that my device does. I can walk around the house w/ a BT headset talking on chat or voip, play interactive games, watch blue-rays in 1080i, stream anything including netflix in 720p.
Sony come out with new features & updates, something for everyone, on a regular basis. But the "Tech. Leader" MS, drops 6.5 which is really a dolled up version of 6.1, which is really still just 6.0 & the funny thing is that my PPC2003SE Blue Angel & even my similar HX4700 & the slightly lesser Harrier all perform better, faster & more reliably than the latest HTC MS 6.1 & 6.5 devices.
MS, where is something new? Heck, where are the basics like voice control? why can you not do what android can do in just a few years? Embedded devices is the future. Even my desktop is an all in one, with no tower, & touchscreen flat panel with facial, finger print & voice recognition. All in one devices in simply designed packages/cases is the future & MS is seriously dropping the ball.
I could call Tell-Me years & years ago & get directions, searches, phone numbers & dialing/connection, so why is it that MS the now owner of Tell-Me releases a BB app before a WM app? Is Bill Gates buying stock in Google & Blackberry? I have for years been an avid PC/WM enthusiast & amateur developer, I always "said I hate apple", but seriously with the "true" video dialing, first in the US & new apps that truly do things without .net errors or constant need for reboot numerous time a day & especially with android & it's simply amazing apps, he better be. Even stupid apps like lunch are fun & useful.
Bottom line is why can't MS make a cost effective device with a truly decent camera that handles decent res video & truly hands free usage. All the new guys are doing it while MS scraps it's halfway interesting apps like Aurua bar-code, Tell-Me, etc... It's a huge disappointment when you own the companies providing infrastructure & have been coding SW for a few decades & are still having your rear handed to you by open source & the new guys on the block.
The only real difference between now & the late 80's/early 90's is that now I don't have to tether my Sony Clie to my StarTac or V to get total connection to web/contacts & mail. Quit worrying about MS Office Mobile so much, everyone is still gonna do most of their formula writing on a laptop or PC just a bit over the basics are all that most of us care about. Focus on 4G optimization, on low memory consumption, Higher memory devices, Faster Devices, HD media playback & recording/still photography, use the FM radio transmitter that most of the devices have disabled to transmit audio over radio-wave to our home theaters & car systems along with fast "TRUE" hands free functionality including STT & TTS so we can send & hear/read our emails without having to stop working or driving. Let us get info, web searches & send info with the push of one button & the power of our voices. Save us time & let us make more money so we will want to keep supporting your products because it is getting close to the point of no return. Open your eyes MS, even sites that have been exclusive to windows & CE are now changing their names & adding support or sections for android, iphone, and even a few of the smaller independent OS selections.
You guy's need to clean house seriously. Whomever is advising you as to what people want should be replaced or at least supplemented with newer blood. Your last chance I truly believe is that WM7 is the best thing ever & you work your butts of to make it freely available & compatible to those that bought flagship devices like TP2, HD2, Diamond 2, etc...
I love supporting American companies, even the big ones. But my support is not to be taken for granted, it is not blind & unforgiving to the point of hurting myself. All of the guys I started tweaking & developing with own an iphone now & use it more than the WM device they worked so hard perfecting. You are even losing your die-hard power users. They are giving up. Not to mention the new & intermediate user. Many big names that came out with amazing developments have left the WM forums out of frustration, always waiting for the next big thing (that never comes), they have moved onto Android or another platform & these same people used to find & fix the bugs you missed. I have seen XDA fixes in ROM updates. I myself, Sleuth fixed numerous 6.0 & 6.1 devices that had bad info flashed into blocks. Even much of that has stopped. Time to wake up MS & join us int the 21st century. Many of us are not professional geeks, even those that are still are business users, we run business, sales, service manufacturing, programing, etc... So it's no longer what that small group of geeks want, no, it's what the people want.

Developer needed: Custom WM 6.x ROM for HTC HD (will pay)

Hello,
I am posting a simple project request with a small budget in hopes that a Freelance Developer would be willing to take it on.
This project would be a good opportunity for some quick income.
My project is to build a custom ROM for my unlocked Windows Mobile 6.1 HTC Touch HD T8282 (Blackstone), for personal use.
The ROM will incorporate different aspects of the following WM HTC phones:
- HTC Touch Diamond P3700 (Rogers – Canada)
- HTC Touch Pro (Raphael) T7272
- HTC Touch HD (Blackstone) T8282 & T8285 (Telstra)
- HTC Touch Diamond 2 (Topaz) T5353
- HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium) T7373
- HTC Touch HD 2 (Leo) T8585
I have done research on the XDA Developers website, and have the specifications I would like the ROM to include. Also, I have saved relevant “threads” which link to files and examples which I will upload to the project once accepted. I have also downloaded some of the key files (WM 6.1 cabs) and HD updates that I will upload as well once accepted. The majority of the files are already existing (somewhere) on the XDA Developer webiste.
I have not included updates of other HTC models (but can be found on the (HTC Worldwide site - support)
I have not included extracted oem cab files from the various HTC model stock roms.
I have not used the many other “developer” sites – the amount of information is over-whelming.
There is a YouTube link by XDA user starbase64 (German) - But I cannot post it - yet (I am a new user, 1st post) for a general idea of what I would like to accomplish:
As I do not have a programming background, I am not able to create the ROM myself, and that is why I must outsource my project. There may be additional components that are required, that I am not aware of, which I will defer to the more knowledgeable freelancer.
Currently, the shipped HTC Touch HD ROM does not support North American (Canada – Rogers) 3G speed (EDGE is max), whereas the Australian Telstra version (T8285) does support the same frequencies as North America. As all other specifications on both HD versions (’82 & ’85) are identical, I assume that the radio can be successfully switched, though I have not found a thread on the XDA Developer site showing so. This may not even be possible (therefore I defer to the more knowledgeable freelancer).
Also, as the HTC Touch HD T8282 is a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone, I would like to upgrade to WM 6.5.3 (or 6.5.5) while retaining the basic WM 6.1 GUI (not WM 6.5.x GUI), as I prefer the HTC TFlo3D shell GUI (again I defer to the more knowledgeable freelancer).
Finally, the “new” HTC Touch HD will require a compatible “HardSPL” (for flashing), which would the Freelancer’s responsibility to include in the project submission upon completion.
Communication for clarification/issues/concerns/modifications/etc... can be started once a willing freelancer has been accepted.
Freelancer.com/ca posting - Cannot post - yet.
Anyone interested please PM me.. Thanks.
This has to be a joke on so many levels. Though for your sake, here's a healthy bump for that lucky developer out there who is destine for this job.

Why would this be a joke?
I would like a custom rom, and I can't do it myself.
Look up the post on Freelancer.com/ca...
I'm willing to "donate" (pay) $100 for the project towards the dev, or the website (if they prefer).
I just want a custom rom.
Here is a more my posting on the Freelancer.com / .ca website, if interested...
http://www.freelancer.ca/projects/Android-Symbian/Developer-needed-Custom-ROM-for.html
I am not a WinMo user, so cannot comment on whether the rest of your demands are available in other ROMs (though I suspect they are), but your phone does not 3G in North America as the radio hardware is different.
There are custom ROMs out there that will likely have everything else you require, and if you are willing to pay $100 for a custom ROM for an old phone, you might as well just look at buying a newer phone that does suit your requirements, then use a readily available custom ROM for that.

Hi Mr.Lambomanx,
Thank you for replying to my thread.
The reason why I would like a custom rom, is because I really like the HTC TFlo 3D, (and Sense)and have seen how it could be modified.
I am not really a heavy app user, however, I have seen apps being cooked into roms, which (please correct me if I am wrong), seem to increase performance as it's part of the rom.
I'm really not a fan of the newer Android phones, as some of them are a little "too flashy", and don't have WMLive, or WMOffice included which I rely on.
Over the last few months I have seen some of the amazing custom roms possible, however I have not found one I want personally.
That's why I'm asking an XDA developer with no success..
Regarding the Radio for 3G on the Blackstone T8282. According to the specs (found on the HTC site), nothing differs from the T8285 Telstra apart from the frequency capability. Since the "radio" is software, why would it not be just as inter-changeable as any other piece of software?
Your feedback is greatly appreciated, as is any one else's.
Of course, TouchFlo 3D already comes with the device, but anything else that is new (like from Sense) would have to be ported over.
A built-in app is merely just one that comes with it; there is no performance difference.
When you say too flashy, what do you mean?
The radio isn't just a piece of software, it is essentially the firmware that the radio equipment runs. However, we refer to the firmware as the "radio" because there are differences and optimisations for different networks, for example.
The problem is that the phone is so old, and you'd probably not end up with a great experience running all of this new software on it. The age also means that there won't be much support for it.
You really would have a better experience buying a new phone, I'm afraid; you can find better alternatives for software that you use, and any mobile platform out there now is far superior to WM; WM is very much an old OS that has been taken too far.

Hi again Mr.L,
What I mean by "too flashy" is that I find the newer HTC Android phones have the clock, plus the weather (in the clock), plus the weather animation on the homepage. Also, the clock is now the circular analog, when it was the "flip clock" that's become HTC's "signature". Plus the whole "pinkish" look isn't my thing.
I really like this (YouTube link below) rom created by XDA user starbase64, however when contacted, he informed me that he is focusing his efforts on 'droid dev.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jjCNIZcM5s
Mr.64 has manged to combine TFlo3D with Sense on an HD.
That's the kind of "look" I like.
The things XDA users (and sights like it) create is just AWESOME.
I searched this kitchen thread from him, but there are no images for me to see if it's the video rom (plus then link goes from XDA to rapidshare - in German)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=460822
Regarding performance: I have read threads where the post-er has created a new rom that has newer, and sometimes more "things" than the original oem, and their cooked rom is producing better ram usage, is faster and better battery performance. I figured that this is related to the app being built into the rom, rather than added / installed after.
Regarding radio: The radio is firmware..? How is it possible that people can upgrade their radio with newer oem radios? (some being from a different build of the same phone)
That is why I wonder if the T8282's radio can be substituted with the T8285 Telstra. If the phone is able to upgrade the radio, shouldn't it be able to support any version of the radio found in different builds (of the same phone)?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Blackstone/Radio_Flashing
**Though I noted that radio is dependent of the rom build.
Regarding new phone: Unfortunately, I disappointed that "Balmer" made WP7 generic and HTC can't add any (well, "Sense")
I was contemplating the iPhone (mainly for the apps, and fluidity), but the "home screen" sucks.
I still want something to look at.
More than likely I will BEND OVER and get a BB (Torch 2 9850/Storm 3), mainly cause everyone keeps asking for my "pin", but I've never been all impressed with BB in general.
RIM's problem isn't really them being behind Apple. It's more of them revealing (things in the works) too far in advance causing delays.
Apple just goes: BAM! Surprise! iPadX LTE!
You have to remember that with Android, there is a huge amount of customisability. The clock can be changed for a million other ones, etc. As for the pinkishness, that's just a background
The performance improvements will be down to the optimisations the dev makes, not anything else.
The radio is that you upgrade is firmware, which can be changed for improved performance. Radio firmware is also separate from the ROM, so you can change that to whatever you like. However, the hardware is still limited to whatever it is designed to support, it is different hardware.
To be honest, if you like Sense so much, an Android phone sounds perfect for you. Sense on Android is very similar to how it was on the WM devices, like the HD2. Do take a look!

Hi Mr.L,
Thanks for your feedback, it's much appreciated.
While I do understand 'Droid's customability (real word?), I'm really not to big on 'Droid. I really don't like the "version segmentation" problems they face (though, I've "heard" Google is becoming more strict with Honeycomb). Maybe in the future I would get an Android device, if one catches my eye.
You being in the UK is sweet for receiving the newest phones, and more selection.
There's not a big selection in North America, Canada even less than the US.
Regarding the radio firmware: How do you, (or anyone) know that the T8282, is different hardware than the T8285?
I cannot find a spec sheet showing any difference.
Regarding the rom request: Another reason why I made the request is since my device (HD) is considered "legacy", I thought it would be easier to cook, since many chefs already made dishes.
Even if i cannot get the 3G radio, I could still have something like what Mr.64 created.
I thought that there would be at least one Chef willing to "microwave" a dish for me.

The problem that people claim is there with Android is fragmentation of the specification of phones on the market; to the end user, there is no effect. In my opinion, it is a load of rubbish.
We do get everything first here!
The difference is that the T8285 supports North American 3G frequencies, while the T8282 supports the rest if the world's frequencies.
The problem is that the Touch HD is very much legacy; very few support it now as a result.
Unfortunately, I can't really help you much when it comes to ROMs; I have no knowledge of WM devices. All you can do is look at the Touch HD section of XDA (is there one?) and see what you can find.
But really, don't dismiss newer platforms just like that. You really need to try Sense on a newer device; it is a full experience on Android, not just a skin on top of the OS. You'd adjust easily, and it is very well done

My suggestion is to just update you phone... Would save you alot of time and money.

Yes, most likely I will be purchasing a new phone in the near future...
HOWEVER, regardless of new or old wouldn't any "customization" not oem require an XDA Dev (or like)?
That's why I figured why not "pimp out" my HD, and that will keep me satistified until I find something a really like.
***Question:
Can Anyone tell me how much work is involved in "cooking"?
Like man hours using an existing kitchen...
I assume seasoned Chefs like Mr.Duttythoy makes his own kitchen from scratch?
How long would it have taken him to produce one of his well respected roms?
(I have a post in the mod request forum referring to my lack of programming knowledge, and how programming knowledge is a definite requirement for cooking)
SO No, I am NOT able to cook for myself.

That would be fine, but as we've established, it is now a legacy device. You certainly won't find another dev willing to work on the phone for you.
The amount of hours that goes into these ROMs is...well, it really depends on what is wanted in the ROM. We're talking hundreds of hours over a period of time. A single ROM, from scratch, if anything needs to ported, again, tens of hours.

ARGH!!!
This is frustrating!
I've checked out the new Android phones coming out this month (Rogers - Canada): HTC Evo 3D, and LG Optimus 3D.
While the 3D is VERY appealing,... (the phone) NOT my style..
Microsoft threw some nails in the WM coffin in the last few weeks, with the discontinuing of the Marketplace, and My Phone. (The Live Mesh beta was sweet, but ended)
I REALLY wanted MY rom...
Can anyone reading at least give me a quote on how much ($)they'd be willing to make it for??
(Then I can better judge if it is worthwhile (cost))
**I'm not having much luck on the Freelancer site I mentioned either...
Right now, as it stands, IF I get a new mobile soon it would be the (BIG SIGH) Blackberry Torch 9860 (Monza) - the full touch BB.
But I'm not a BB fan!
(I'm not even much of a 'Droid') fan... **not trying to offend 'Droid lovers
I'm not a chef for the Blackstone (Touch HD), so I won't be able to help you make the ROM, but I can offer a couple of pointers.
1. As was mentioned, the 3G radio hardware is different in your device to what the US frequencies are. Yes, you can update the radio firmware, but this is only tweaking what the hardware can do and how it performs, i.e. battery performance, signal strength and so forth. 3G is frequency specific and must be taken into consideration before making a device purchase because the hardware cannot be changed without swapping out the main board. If you want to do that, then it would still be cheaper to get the other device.
2. You should ask about this in the device-specific forum that you want the ROM created for. Not many devs are going to regularly check this area. You would do well to either PM them or simply post this thread in the Blackstone forum.

Well what I would of done is went to the development thread find the latest rom releases and contact that developer for this project. I was bored so I went and did half of it for you . The latest I found was the Eneregy Rom series released July 4 which is close enough. NRGZ28 makes the Energy rom series, I would get ahold of him and let him know about your project and that you are willing to pay, maybe you might get lucky

Hi again Cajun Bob,
I WOULD have posted in the HTC Touch HD forum - but, I'm pretty sure it's against the forum rules... I asked a Mod, they "said" I shouldn't (not can't), so I didn't risk it - I know how you guys are with the forum/post ish
I have TRIED to contact devs via PM, but other than the mods, or really helpful types, the reply is nil.
I'm not sure how to request a thread move...
