Well, as the title indicates, I am trying to remap my IE and Comm Manager keys. I remember that on the Excalibur, all I had to do was modify the path of the Short_IE.lnk and Short_Camera.lnk to make them work. That does not seem to be the case with the Cavalier.
I have discovered that the link responsible for the IE button behavior is pie.lnk in the Windows folder. However, when I alter the path of that link to CeleTask, IE opens first and then CeleTask immediately afterwards. Anyway to prevent IE from opening at all?
Also, I am having a difficult time getting the Comm Manager key to work. I tried using this thread with no success:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355141
Any ideas?
I would also like to know the answer, concern
Me too I m looking for this answer can some one help us please?
i really hate that it doesnt have the messaging button like the dash does?
help ?
Same here. I am planning on dedicating the IE button to Messaging, and the Comm Manager button to TaskManager. So far, all I have achieved is getting Messaging to open after IE is opened when pressing the IE button. Kind of annoying.
Noone can shed some light on this?
Bump for refreshment!
ha ha............great

yeah. I finally changed the T-zones key to something useful: IE!
where do I find these links?
i can only find the short_camera.lnk
i can't find the faq.
i have the htc s620 and what the messaging key to run a different program?!
Same problem
ZIt seems the Dash and 2620 have a lot of diferences. I can't find any keys .lnk files to chane the keys--I wouls like a task manager wehere ie is.
Also - the htc s620 does not have the text key hold and switch character function (which is really handy) and there is no t9 ot t9x on the s620.
Frustrating
but this hold functionality you can achieve with 3rd party tools.
at my s620 i only have the short_camera.lnk
Up through WM5, I used xBar as a task-manager, great program:
http://xetranet.free.fr/xbar2/?lang=eng&project=xBar 2#
It doesn't get along so well with WM6. Hasn't been an update for quite a while, the author doesn't respond to emails about whether an update is coming. He also hasn't posted a message in his own forums for ages.
Does anyone know of anything similar? If you're not familiar with xBar, it's a 'always there' task manager that lets you quickly see which programs are running, switch to them, or close them, just by pressing and holding the center navigation button.
Chaz, why not use the built-in HTC Task Manager? You can assign one of the Dash (the T-zones) key to it to have it launch instantly. It works great!
quick question
how did you remap the t-zones key to open the task manager ?

Check the stuff under the 'Recommended Remaps' heading.
I use celetask, it seems to work well under WM6.

Hi:
Is there a shortkey to kill a running app? not just minimize it.
Thanks.
nope.. just use a task manager..
I did remap a key (my T-Zones) so that it would open the task manager, then I could close apps from there or just switch apps.

I'm looking to do that. I know how to edit short keys but I don't know the exact text to remap the key to task manager. Could you copy your settings and post em here? Thanks!

Look for short_IE.lnk in your windows folder and add the path to the program inside quotation marks.
Example:
32#"\Program Files\Program Folder\program.exe"

I'm not seeing the short_IE.lnk file in the windows folder. I see all the other .lnk, just not the one mentioned.
Turns out it seems to be a new problem with the new HTC rom. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.
I thought you were on the T-Mobile ROM when u said T-Zones key. Im not sure which key the T-Zones key is on an HTC branded device. If you can find that out maybe that'll help you seek out that .lnk file.
i'm running the new htc rom and i had a short_IE.lnk file.
at any rate, find the jogger settings program if you're still having trouble. part of that program is that you can reassign your tzones key.

I've done some extensive searches and can't locate this "jogger settings program" do you have the cab file? Do you know the exact name of the program?
Thank you.
I have the same ROM(Love it)
I just added Task Manager to a speed dial.
Works for me
If you guys are looking for the t-zones key after the HTC ROM change it is
Windows\iexplore.exe
for some reason though i had to use total commander and then assing the key on the smart toolkit that im using.
when i had the t-mobile rom i was just able to change it with total commander.
i am using the t-zones key for the Tornado low light program.
So the remap works stellar except holding down the semi-colo and colon buttons only input a comma and period. the IE button switches to the comm task manager and comm manager... is there anyway to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Try taking a read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326683 It may help you out. I just use the alt button for colon and semi-colon and I personally like having the task manager instead of IE but I know there are ways to change it by editing your registry but I just haven't paid enough attention to what people were saying.
There is nothing to "fix" if you read...any of the 100,000,023 postings. You will see that is what 99% of this mappings are set to.
It isnt the key mapping that does that it is actually, short cuts to those keys, in your windows folder.
Thank you,
Have a great day
I have a Tilt 2 running the NEW ROM.
I want to disable the automatic pop-up of the soft keyboard, so that I get to decide when I want to use it.
Is there a way to turn this feature off?
I have seen references to making changes to the registry, I assume there is a switch in there somewhere, but how does one access the registry? Is there a hidden program somewhere I could start or do I have to download it?
Thanks,
Richard..
You need to download a registry editor. There are various choices out there. I use Total Commander:
http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
The reg edit that I have seen for preventing the soft keyboard from popping up, helps a little. But it doesn't prevent it in all situations.
As Redpoint mentioned, Total Commander is the preferred file explorer for most of us. Task Manager 3.1 is what I use for mobile registry editing. I do try to avoid doing any editing on my device, though. I rather edit on the PC side with the larger screen and less room for errors. For editing the device's registry from the PC, I use CEReg Editor 0.0.5.3.
For disabling the keyboard, you could try an app that I used to use on WM5 with my old Sable. It says it works with WM6, so give it a shot and see if you like it. It's called Nullkeyboard. All it does is add a blank SIP to your device. Select Nullkb from the SIP input button and you're good to go. Here is the link to the download.
I used Advanced Config. It gives you a nice way to select options and features and then change your registry for you. It is AWESOME for a tweaker. I'm using version 3.3.0.0 and it works great on my Tilt2 original OEM ROM.
Using this app, Under the Input category, change "Auto deply SIP" to disabled.
Okay, I downloaded the nullkeyboard and tried, it but it had no apparent effect.
I also downloaded the Task Manager 3.3 (latest version) and it works. I did a search for "keypad", but none of them appear to relate to controlling the pop-up feature.
Does anyone know what registry entry controls the soft keypad pop-up feature?
Thank you,
Richard..

Did you select the nullkeyboard from the SIP selection window that pops up when you press the right side of the soft keyboard icon?
You should NOT be searching around the registry for things to change without knowing what they are. Doing so can possibly screw up your phone and require a hard reset. You should only apply registry changes you see posted on here, and change them exactly as indicated.
The reg edit to prevent SIP for opening:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip
"TurnOffAutoDeploy" value="1"
NullKeyboard - Oh, is that how it works? Thank you for telling me. It does the job, except for the times I would like to use the keyboard for quik edits, I have to change it back to the regular keyboard first.
REGEDIT - I found the registry key: HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip
but there were no values in it for: TurnOffAutoDeploy
I added the value: "TurnOffAutoDeploy" value="1" (no quotes) with the type REG_SZ and then rebooted the phone. I also changed NullKeyboard back to regular.
This had no effect on the Auto Deploy of the keyboard.
I was hoping the RegEdit would work. The keyboard would be there, but would not pop-up until I wanted it.
If I did something wrong, or you have any other suggestions, please let me know.
Thank you,
Richard..
I think the reg type should have been a DWORD value of 1.
Great! That did it. The keypad stays out of the way and is there if I want it.
Thank you,
Thank you, thank you, thank you, cajunflavoredbob
I have one app in which the pop-up keyboard on my T-Mobile HTC HD2 drives me nuts, and several others in which I could do without it. You gave me the answer that I couldn't find in any of the other threads, and I really appreciate it.
