Up through WM5, I used xBar as a task-manager, great program:
http://xetranet.free.fr/xbar2/?lang=eng&project=xBar 2#
It doesn't get along so well with WM6. Hasn't been an update for quite a while, the author doesn't respond to emails about whether an update is coming. He also hasn't posted a message in his own forums for ages.
Does anyone know of anything similar? If you're not familiar with xBar, it's a 'always there' task manager that lets you quickly see which programs are running, switch to them, or close them, just by pressing and holding the center navigation button.
Chaz, why not use the built-in HTC Task Manager? You can assign one of the Dash (the T-zones) key to it to have it launch instantly. It works great!
quick question
how did you remap the t-zones key to open the task manager ?

Check the stuff under the 'Recommended Remaps' heading.
I use celetask, it seems to work well under WM6.

I'm using Dash with WM6.1. By default if you press some key it will go to contact lookup. I'm wondering if there's a way to launch app by hot key combination? For example, Alt+T for task etc..

there's not a native way of doing this, but there is a program that has a hotkey addition function. Its called smarttoolkit. www.e-natives.com
Thanks for the pointer. smarttoolkit probably does too much more than I want. Is there a simple one that just do the hotkey launcher work?
Well actually, you can disable the smarttoolkit app from showing you all of the eye candy, and still get the hotkey to work, but it will still run in the background. Technically any hotkey program will run in the background, and the only alternative without using a hotkey program is to use the IE button (t-zones button) and remap short_ie.lnk to perform what you're trying to accomplish
No, there is another alternative. Sorry, Pudgedaddy, not even trying to step on your toes. Showaco found one for me. It isn't free though. Although it is the only alternative that is out there. It is called AE Button. It is a russian software, ok, but it works perfectly. I still agree with Pudgedaddy, just don't run Smarttoolkit in the homescreen, disable that feature. It doesn't eat up memory, so run it, then you can have all of the button presses you want.
ROCK ON, LONDON, ROCK ON CHICAGO
Thanks. I will give both a try.
Well, as the title indicates, I am trying to remap my IE and Comm Manager keys. I remember that on the Excalibur, all I had to do was modify the path of the Short_IE.lnk and Short_Camera.lnk to make them work. That does not seem to be the case with the Cavalier.
I have discovered that the link responsible for the IE button behavior is pie.lnk in the Windows folder. However, when I alter the path of that link to CeleTask, IE opens first and then CeleTask immediately afterwards. Anyway to prevent IE from opening at all?
Also, I am having a difficult time getting the Comm Manager key to work. I tried using this thread with no success:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355141
Any ideas?
I would also like to know the answer, concern
Me too I m looking for this answer can some one help us please?
i really hate that it doesnt have the messaging button like the dash does?
help ?
Same here. I am planning on dedicating the IE button to Messaging, and the Comm Manager button to TaskManager. So far, all I have achieved is getting Messaging to open after IE is opened when pressing the IE button. Kind of annoying.
Noone can shed some light on this?
Bump for refreshment!
ha ha............great

Its somewhere in the registry. I ran across it a while back. it's not like the Excalibur with Short_*.lnk... Weird...
please can any one grant my wish, i know my birthday is after 10 month but pleeeeeaaaaase
i wish that the ok button could close any open program and not just send it back to the background "minimize it"
Hi, download an application called HButton from here:
http://hbutton.dyndns.org/download.jsp
Then you can change the function of some of the buttons on your phone.
Happy "early" birthday!!!

great! thanks man. it is working, i should have asked for that a long time ago.
ok first i want to say: what a great forum, i'm proud of being a member and i wish i could contribute more here.
so what i've done is: i programmed hbutton1 to <quit> programs and mapped it to the OK button, but now the contexts and windows with OK at the corner do not respond to the OK button.
so in addition to hbutton1 i assigned hbutton2 with <ok/close> and also mapped it to the OK button.
now it is working like i want
you know that with hbutton, you can assign multiple commands to each button.
For instance, my button4(also hbutton4) does:
Internet Explorer
Comm Manager
Toggle Bluetooth
Toggle WiFi.
Setting a 200ms delay, and it's all good.
Cheers!
Hi Guys, I'd like to have the HTC task manager in the top right of every program (except full screen obviously) in place of the "X". If I want to exit a program, I usually press the hardware "ok" button and keep it running in the background for fast loading later and keep an eye on memory usage with the top right menu. Is it possible to have the task manager always on in place of the cross?
Yes, that would be great. I did not find anything to get what we want, so far.
As a workaround, I used WkTask (http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html) which works well, and allows to switch easily from one running program to the other.
Waiting for a better solution, hope that this helps.

Best program iv found by a long way is Showcase. Works like a charm and looks pretty!
SPB Pocket Plus and SBSH both do as you ask... but the come at a premium
pbar works for me. "pBar is able to override the behaviour of the "X" button just like other task managers. In addition, there are a couple of handy shortcuts found on the popup menu. You can even add shortcuts of a couple ..."
Is it possible to assign to xpanel button switching between programs? i don't use this button and this option would be great for it i think.
p.s
don't redirect me to thread where is written how to assign exe to xpanel button
Hah found how to do it I will write tutorial maybe someone need it.
1. We need software called AltTab.exe
Download and put in Windows directory
2. Take any registry editor and go to ( thanks to jackleung )
HKLM\Software\SonyEricsson\PanelManager\ApplicationName
and Change it to \..\Windows\AltTab.exe
3. Nothing more now xpanel button switches between running programs
amazing.
Will test this now.

yes, you have to reset your system, but NOT the "hard" way...
go to \windows\startup and delete the panelmanager.lnk in there. do a softreset. now change the reg-key like mentioned above. do NOT press the x-panel-key!!! (you can use any program-file, i use it for starting comm-manager)
one more softreset and you're done.
the reason for this is:
if you press the panel-key the first time after flashing a rom, a .lnk get's put into the startup-folder, starting panelmanager with every boot and overwriting any changes to the reg-key you may have made. (kinda like autostart on your pc)

Not only got rid of the panel manager, but can also cycle through open apps.
However... it seems to cycle through just 2 apps. If 3 or more applications are open, it will just cycle through the last 2.
I followed the instructions as above - maybe there is another tweak?
Try installing TaskFacade and assigning the X-button to it. Really nice program, all cred goes to GPS-lover.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420220
Use the fist state on the camera button instead. That isn't used for anything anyway. Assign alttab.exe with AE Button Plus. I use it with double tap on the button so I don't press it by mistake. When entering the xperia camera it works as usual. So you don't need to worry about that.

If you press Xpanel button fast it will switch between other apps.
I loved TaskFacade
If you want to assign TaskFacade to Xpanel - you just write \TaskFacade\TaskFacade.exe
fantastic, thanks a lot to vladimired and caliban2! Now I can finally switch between programs (and also turn to the today screen) with the X-Panel button and close programs quickly with the OK button.
For this I do not use TaskFascade. I prefer the app switcher from Spb Pocket Plus. If you use this program, just copy the AltTab.exe in the folder ...\programs\PocketPlus into the windows folder like mentioned above. The rest is similar.
Im kinda lost, can you post clearer instructions on how to do this with the tab.exe and taskfacacde, thanx
Here is video how everything works with TaskFacade
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw1dIW-YBLA
i will write more detailed manual lately today, if my work will not swallow me
TaskFacade its the best aplication i have in my x1a thanx
TaskFacade is a very nice app, but it does take some time for the images of the open applications to appear.
I'm after speed... compared to TaskFacade, it's faster to go to the Manila home page and click on the "OK" button area, and then switch as necessary.
That was the benefit of AltTab... but it'll only cycle through 2 open applications
I've installed Ae Buttons but i don't figure what button from the menu is the X Panel button? Any ideea?
I want the x panel button to open the panel manager when pressed short, and another program when pressed long.
Cheers!
Edit: I found this: Press File->Add button and press the button. The X-Panel button code: #00EA. Now i try to make it work on long press
Later Edit: Done. If you select from the drop down menu and chose "4.Long press" you can choose an action. I thought that if i select "4.Long press" , the "1.Single press" will become inactive, but i was wrong. Now my Xperia is Perfect
Hi all,
i'd like to inform You about small application that could be useful with changing mapped x-panel button:
RWA - Run With Argument - 1.0
small application that allows to run any other *.exe file with arguments...for some reasons it can be useful especially when working on HTC devices...
so we bind XPanel to RWA, and in RWA for ex. tmail.exe with SMS argument... to we get SMS Inbox under XPanel Button
and that's all... maybe somebody could find it as an useful application ...
XDA Thread Link
thank you!!
thanks to vladimired for this trick, very usefull
i set XPanel Button with TaskFacade (that looks like a Panel Manager ) and it works fine
