Will 6800 WM 6.1 work on the 6900? - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

my phone is a Sprint Mogul so I'm not familiar with the Touch. My daughter who has a Verizon Touch is visiting from out-of-state. Several months ago I saw an update to WM 6.1, but now I can no longer find a link. Verizon customer service can't help. Will the official Verizon WM 6.1 for the 6800 work correctly with the 6900?

No different phones so different rom images.
But the process that you followed to install WM 6.1 on your Titan is very similar to process that you'll need to follow if you want to install WM6.1 on your daughters XV6900.
That being said you'll find all the information/tools that you'll need to upgrade to WM6.1, by looking into unlocker sticky at the top of the forum.
A couple of things to remember:
1.) Verizon does not have an offical Wm6.1 update as of yet., to the best of my knowledge. There is one labeled Verizon Official, but like I said I don't think its official. If it was official, Verizon would have a download link listed somewhere under the phone in your account. At least they did when they come out with the XV6800 WM6.1 upgrade.
2.) You will probably need to call Verizon to get a new Akey after upgrading to the new rom. I've found that when going from a non-GPS rom to a GPS rom most of the time the AKey gets messed up.
Good luck

Thanks Flipdog. You answered my questions. I would update using a Kitchen from PPC Geeks, but I want it to be an official rom because my daughter might need support otherwise. Happy holidays.

Once you flash a new ROM, you become your own tech support. If it's for your daughter and she lives out of state, I suggest leaving it alone. The only upgrade that she may notice, unless she is big on tech, is the threaded text messaging.

The link is pretty easy to find actually:

And Latest Update from T-Mobile UK

Hi,
As per the post below on O2 I thought I would drop T-Mobile an email.
Here is the reply
"Good afternoon.
Thank you for your email.
We had thought about providing an upgrade to WM6 for our devices, however we have decided against this. It was decided that our phones ran well with WM5 and to concentrate our resources on releasing our new MDA Touch and, in time, MDA Vario III with WM6.
Kind regards.
Paul Byrne
T-Mobile"
I am have been monitoring the various WM6 roms on this site but I was holding off on updating my MDAC3 to see if T-Mobile would update it. Seems like that ain't going to happen.
Bugger, may have to take the plunge with one of the ROMs on here.
Regards
take a plunge mate, use the uspl tool and then upgrade, its easy if you follow instructions,
thats T-mobile for you though, they dont look after there customers properly. shoddy i say. its not like they have to pay for it. they could even just get hold of the original htc copy and put there code on it for there branded device. ndont take much...
im using the new rom with the htc touchflo included, and its bloody awesome.
ive been running a few WM6 roms without any problems on my MDACIII.
Ive been running the 3.5 rom recently which is great and as we speak im upgrading to 3.7.
Please Delete.
not a scooby but its a higher version and im a sucker for the latest and greatest.
Please Delete.
Would I have to unlock my MDACIII if I am to also upgrade the ROM to WM6 of which is available here?
No, but you'll need to download and run the USPL first.

Newbie Alert - New Compact III German style &%*(^

After we purchased the T-Mobile Compact III, they told us that it would not switch to english. Now I am here and being flooded with Too Much Info. Could someone help out a poor sucker get this thing backed up, reflashed with an english version and maybe find a free GPS program? The only thing keeping me from running some of the stuff that I have found is backing up my current ROM. I want to be able to put the T-Mobile ROM back on the thing just in case....
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and probably by many service members here in Germany who will soon end up in my shoes.
Maybe my question was not clear....
I may have not stated my question clearly. I am looking for the T-Mobile German ROM that comes with the T-Mobile MDA Compact III here in Germany, or a way to back up the ROM on my Artemis...
I want to have the factory ROM on hand in case I have to reflash it back to original config... Once I have this or back it up, I can flash which ever rom I need. I do not want to end up with a brick that I cannot try to return to the original config.
Any help would be appreciated.
Growing Pains
Well, I have flashed my MDA with several ROMS to see which one my wife likes best. Risky, I know, but ya gotta please the missus...
I was disappointed that the WiFi was disabled in the german models, as it would have saved alot of money for us... O2 Germany's MDA's are WiFi enabled I found out today.
I am also disappointed that the GPS is very hard to get working. T-mobile cannot explain how to do it, and I am making that my next project.
For those who read this thread and decided that I was wasting space, sorry. I have read through about 45% of all artemis threads over the past 48 hours and my brain is thoroughly scrambled with TMI.
So far, Artemis Touch full version is the one that my wife likes, and I like it too. We tried the O2 ROM, but it is not compatible with the T-mobile network for some reason...(lol) Since I am still new, I have not learned how to flash a ROM using an .rar file yet, but with more thread reading I should be able to learn this as well.
BT Rom would not flash either, stating that it was the wrong model number. Found that in a thread as well... Next up... GPS...

Which rom for 8525 would best suite my needs...(oh no, not another one of these!)

Before everybody gets all peeved at me for this, I've done my research, and I've done my homework and PLENTY of searches. Here's the deal.
I recently purchased a Tilt (and am waiting for the damn AT&T WM 6.1 upgrade), and I gave my brother my old 8525. His needs are pretty basic...AIM, txts, email, internet, and GPS (I gave him my external and set him up w/ TT7). He's more of a intermediate user than a beginner, but I would like to keep it very simple for him. What would be the best rom for his 8525 (preferably WM 6.1) that would be the easiest to use, and of course the fastest. He doesn't need any extra bloatware or anything. I'm a pretty advanced user myself, so I can help him out as much as possible.
Also, any recommendations for me? I'm sick of waiting for AT&T's 6.1 upgrade. I was thinking about flashing the Tytn II rom on there but IDK.
Thanks, and try not to flame too bad.
Don't wait for the upgrade; it'll be crappy anyways. Flash to one of the custom ROMs here and you cetrainly wont regret it.

That's what I was thinking. Which 6.1 ROM would you suggest for my Tilt? I want speed and power/performance. I can install all the custom apps myself (I would prefer too). I'm still running AT&T's bloat'ed 6.0 ROM
As far as the 8525, which 6.1 ROM would you suggest for him? Speed and performance. Again, I can install all the custom apps myself.
try a lite rom dvh, crc, and/or pdacorner wm6.1 for hermes.
check the tilt forum section for their cooked wm6.1's...
happy flashing!
well
let me know how you get on, the tilt will be my next phone, kaiser with video calling that is, as i believe it is still reasonably new release, with known issues hopefully the doctors here have already ironed out.
However as people here been saying, let the fun begin by flashing, make sure you read the wiki thoroughly before you do so.

I would try CRC's 12.9 Naked Bigstorage for him, making sure to flash a shipped from first (don't want any nasty HR's).
I find my WM gets faster the longer I let it sit on the phone, and dam is my phone fast now
And for Tilt, Im not sure, best to read up, some have better performance than others, with the Direct 3D drivers ect.

new to verizon xv6900

Just got rid of my samsung i760 and went to the xv6900. On my 760 I had wm6.1 which was nice with the threaded sms.
I am looking to upgrade however I can't seem to find one decent thing about it. I mean theres tons of hacks for this thing but I am unsure on what unlocker to use and what rom to flash. 6.1 would be nice, rev A, GPS big plus so I can use live search... even tho I just purchased a nice bluetooth gps reciever last month for the 760.
So let me hear your thoughts on what I should be doing.
Heck the 760 had right on samsung site 6.1 download.
If there is a simple 6.1 upgrade that is fine if someone can point me in the right direction that won't be hacking anything for the time being until I can do my research on all this stuff.
verizon
You need to search before you post. You wont get replies on generic subjects that you can easily find by doing some research. Folks are great to help if you help yourself first. So do some research here and on ppc geeks.
The phone is the "touch". There are unlockers and aps if you want to deviate from the custom rom. there are clear instructions and the pioneers have worked out many of the bugs. be sure to use the verizon hacks not the sprint ones.
There are also a boatload of aps that work with the std rom.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/
has a bunch of aps that work with std rom.
have fun

Epix (I907) Rom Irony

It is remarkable that we cannot get a custom ROM for the Epix.
The only non ATT Rom I have access to that I could put on my Epix is a Beta Windows Mobile 7 build which cannot easily be rolled back and is not completely functional.
It is Ironic that Microsoft is using the Epix and the T8285 (Touch HD with 850 UMTS) as the prototype devices for WM7, yet no one has built native custom roms for these phones.
(The Touch HD Roms are designed for the T8282 which kills the US 3G support)

WM7 ?! Care to share? If the Epix is more or less similar to the i780 maybe something will be possible.... but I need an EXE updater or BINARY of the PDA..... what's worse I cannot test it....
edit: Sooooo... not interested?
Isn't it typical that cooked ROMs don't show up until after an "official" one has been put out there? I'm guessing once ATT does an update (if they ever do) there will be a bunch that are born shortly after.
I've also read that the Epix actually has more in common with the Omnia than the i780, although obviously has aspects of both.
My big question is whether or not the Epix will get the 6.5 upgrade. It has the specs to handle it for sure, and now that Microsoft has greenlighted phones that meet minimum specs it's up to ATT. Unfortunately I have little faith they'll go to the trouble of doing it instead of just releasing new phones that already come with 6.5. You'd think that support for phones would last as long as the contracts (2 years), but the real cycle seems more like 9 months!

Actually the dump from the Epix that is available is cook-able, however I would like to try the WM7 ROM that is mentioned in the first post... the poster hasn't replied to my PM yet
I appologize for the delay.
I work at microsoft and it turns out that my name and employee info is in there in various places (I have to key in to get a build and it modifies various bits so that if I "loose" the phone, they know how to remotely wipe + hard reset it. it. If I were to share the file and someone were to find out about it, that would be a bad thing.
I would love to share it, but I don't want to take the personal risk.

I have an i907 and want to cook a basic ROM for it. My goal for a first ROM is to remove some of the AT&T crapware, add the new notification style (à la showthread.php?t=513924), and flash it back. I'll share any working ROMs here.
Heads up: this is my first attempt at cooking anything for WM so please bear with me. However, I've been reading the forums and I think I have a reasonable understanding of the process of cooking.
If someone can help me with a few questions to get me started, that would be greatly appreciated. Once I get going, I should be able to learn the rest on my own; I promise not to post 1000 annoying noob questions at every step of the way.
+ inertiax3, which kitchen tools work with the Epix? I read some speculation that the i780 kit could work. Can a resulting ROM be flashed to the Epix?
+ Should I use the ROM dump from this forum or would it be better to dump my own?
+ Do I need to flash any special loaders/etc before I can flash a cooked ROM?
Thanks loads! I really hope that we Epix users can finally have custom ROMs.
THANK YOU! Happy to help out however I can. I don't know anything about ROM cooking, but I know the Epix pretty well and am really glad to see someone taking this on!

EFN's tools should work pretty well..
It's up to you if you wish to use the already available dump or create your own, the latter would be especially useful if your device shipped with a newer release. To cook a ROM you also need the XIP from your device and I think the dump someone posted doesen't include this
No, you don't need to flash anything, but make sure you device can enter the BOOTLOADER mode and has a HARD RESET key combo
