silentP v1b2 (screenshots up) - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

OK guys. Here is the first release of my ROM. I decided after trying many ROMs for a base, I decided to go with Micks 20758. I really enjoyed miffys ROM and thought I'd try my hand at it. Changed the looks, different start button, custom wait animation, a few reg changes, etc. Thanks to all who have answered many questions and PM's. I am still refining the ROM and working on building one from scratch. I've been using the ROMs from the board to learn, so any ideas or even suggestions to improve this one is requested. i really enjoy this ROM and i think you will too. This one is big storage. I have mine running around 23mb free for RAM. No office, no games. If you want those, add them yourself. CRC's device update is in this ROM. If you enjoy his work, please donate to him. Thanks to all who try, and again, let me know what you think. I will add screenshots shortly.

Awsome job on this rom man!! Congrats.. I love the start button and boot screens
pretty snappy, what kind of touchflo did you use cuz i get a mouse pointer somtimes.
next release in your kitchen (which i noticed i think has some of tyre in it) hide sys and oem files to speed up overall speed and windows directory, before cooking
Lovely rom though!!
Peace Bro,
Josh

good work mate. the 20758 is my fav build so far.
in regards to the mouse pointer, it is something in the sys. the touchflo is built into that sys somewhere, i couldnt find it to fix it... overall mate, good work. i like the looks of it.

nice work! and welcome to the hermes chef club (hcc)

Thanks for the response guys. Josh, I'll work on recooking and upload it shortly. I will remember that for future roms. Also, thanks for the use of your ROM miffy. It's appreciated.

Just wondering but does this incorporate any of the Radio Mods from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407956. I am new to the whole Cooked ROM's bit so forgive my ignorance and misread the OP in anyway.
Has anyone flashed their diamond with this? Whats your critique?

Seriously. I find it lame to restrict ppl from using your work, it itself is based on someone else's ideas/tools.
Even though bepe's and DP's roms are excellent, I can't really agree with their train of thought regarding this matter.
I won't repeat what other ppl have already written, but high five Wally, for sharing.
I'm just curious if somebody will release a "protected" rom, which itself was based on YOUR work.
lol

Discuss this matter in its own thread. This DOESN'T concern Elite v3.
But since you asked:
I DID notice a substantial 3G conn. improvement using the 25.05 radio.
Only just flashed the project ROM - will see how this develops before I change.
Thanks for the work though...everyone appreciates the efforts

can't wait to test this rom, besides the NLD skippy centraal

This thread will tell you which ROM to choose.

HAHA that got your attention huh?
I just thought I'd start a thread for people who might be considering upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.1. You should post why you like a certain rom, which features you like, and what could be better.
Since (and I am pretty sure on this) that all of the builds are based on "chunks" of the OS taken from other phone's distributions, there isn't a "hermes specific" guide to improvements that these newer OSs give the user.
So if you feel like it, post away. Hopefully if anything, this will serve as a basis for which rom to choose.
Please don't spam the thread with posts agreeing with other users. I didn't intend for this thread to be a discussion. Try not to post based off other posts, and please
DON'T QUOTE ANYONE!
This means if someone says "I like schaps because its purple and neat looking", don't post "YA IT SURE IS". Just post AGAIN stating that it is purple, as well as what else you like about it.
Reserved for future use
ROM: CRCs STABLE (v11.2; 17-Jul)
This is a great rom to use. Battery life is excellent, and my phone never hangs / crashes. (hence the stable). I like that it accepts dialer customizations (3G dialer from the kaiser for instance) without making you go through a graphic nightmare trying to get it to work.
I *have* noticed some WIFI issues however... Not being able to connect to networks that I KNOW are open. It will say you are connected, however you won't be able to transfer. This however is only a very rarely encountered issue, and usually at WIFI hotspots in restaurants and hotels. It ALWAYS works on my home network.
Rom seems on par with most when speed is considered. It is not either slow, nor exremely fast. Quick enough to do most any task with less than a 1 second wait.
I would definately recommend this rom for use by anyone who is considering their first upgrade, or anyone who wants a very useable rom with a good basic set of programs and tools.
Thank you for bringing this up
Personally, I would say CRCinAU's roms have been the benchmark for other chefs to 'match' or 'better'
These days abusalza is that chef. Again these are my personal opinion, you really NEED TO FLASH ALL THE ROMS, to find what you like and what you don't.
No one can tell me what I will like and what I won't like, as it is down to preference.
So, in other words, .... this thread is pretty useless
in here is a link to rom benchmarks (great job be veyka) to assist U:
>>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419158
Why did you post that? tell me, is there anywhere out there where there is a "consumer reports" type of ROM review?
Rom choice is.. very much what you like.
I can tell you from exp, and I have flashed almost every rom here, as im sure many other people can, that its the ONLY way to know what to use.
There isnt a bad rom, just one that isnt right for you.
since joining this community, i have flashed many roms. I have flashed almost every release during that time, it would exceed 100 roms.
now, what i have noticed is that it doesnt matter which rom i chose, i end up putting the applications on it which i like. Some of the roms have these and others do not. so really, find what it is you like, get the cabs for it, and almost all roms are the same.
there is the stability and speed of roms which is different. but with a 400mhz processor, the speed is barely noticeable unless you change the pagepool.
There is one rom that i always return to when i am away for a while, being Berds 4.31 SS
I find there is a huge difference in speed and battery drain between different WM6.1 roms.
I would personally hold up CRC and PDAcorner as the best two out there atm.
(main difference is if you like your rom vanilla or not)

Hmm hardly a 'consumer' report, as most of them don't donate, may be you should call it 'free loaders report'

btw, on that note. WM6 is WM6, whatever device its on, each rom comes with diffrent stuff cooked in..
Same goes for 6.1.
Its also quite easy to tell if the roms your cup of tea from the thread and screenshots, eg, does it look loaded, lite, comes with HTC home ect!

well dude,
I hate to send people on wild goose chases.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415198 has a rollup on very useful stuff.
bepe's kitchen is in there download and read the entire thing.
download every hermes kitchen you can find and just start messing with stuff.. RGU's are all registry entries. modify and open xml's to see what they do. and just start poking around, eventually (3 months) you'll get a working almost stable build! Every change you make be sure to note it incase you need to go back and correct.. Also note what you did to fix stuff.
Then when you have questions PM and i'll try and help as much as i can but i'm still new.
Or search and bug the crap out of people. at least thats how i did it.
Also the Hypercore kitchen has a good manual with it.. On porting, the noob way for porting is easyportoven, otherwise search xip and sys porting and there is a nice thread on it..
The rest is just trial and error.

[ROM][WWE][Milestone 01]-New Artemis ROM 20721.1.4.0 build with TF2D

After many many roms i tried i decided to try to cook my own. Please keep in mind that this is my very first try! So any criticism is more than welcome!
Points to mention:
Ram: ~24MB
Storage Space: ~42MB
Included:
--Manila 2D latest version (based on update 19) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173
--Manila M2DC v0.11.133 (latest Customiser)
--Poorlyduck M2D Digital Clock embedded (i personaly dislike analog clock so i included a digital one from scratch, I know it is tricky to use the themes and
clocks that are incombatible with all the new versions of manila)
--NETCF 3.5
--Office Mobile 2007
--Messenger & Windows Live
--Opal Random access Included
--New TaskManager version 2.1.34837.5 (fixes a bug that made Taskmanager Dissapear when manila is on)
--Arcsoft MMs 4.2.8 (less space, faster, but same fuctionality and fully compatible with Network Wizard, oldie but goodie!)
--Network Wizard
--4mb PagePool (PagePool changer included)
--Adobe LE 2.5
NOT Included:
--I personaly love the whole manila plugin, specialy the weather, but reaaaaly dislike all of htc album, audio manager and htc YouTube since there are other
applications that do the same job better! (Resco Picview Pro, CorePlayer, and youtube player from xda-devs is my kind of liking) So:
NO HTC Album
NO HTC audiomanager
NO HTC YouTube
NO HTC AudioBooster
NO Gmaps
NO Opera Browser
These apps can be installed through the cabs found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173 and
should work smoothly with the rom.
--Syncrotime (but can be added easily )
--No Java (can be downloaded here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407667)
--No fancy Dialer (there are a bunch of them available to suit your liking but still the old mescle dialer that is included is my kinda favourite and really
fuctional!
--No registry tweaks about non-certified application (sorry about that, still it only comes up once!)
As you may understand this is a personal rom that i build for my needs. In my opinion a rom should have all the necessary apps (Windows Live, PDF viewer,
Office Moblie, Network Wizard, MMS) but when it comes to "goodies/eye candy manila" i prefer to keep it simple: Digital Clock, M2DC, and none of the buggying apps that simply are "optimised" to work with manila. I am sorry if you guys prefer a full manila style rom but both Yue's and ARTEMIS & LOVE offer that set of apps. I tried to keep my build manila-wise as lite as possible.
Credits To:
--------Bepe for an amazing Kitchen!
--------The whole manila porting crew of xda
--------ervius for its tools and especially his amazing package-creator!
--------Poorlyduck for a really nice clock inspired by pcarvalho's amazing work.
--------Anyone i forget, whose tools i used!
--------All of you brave testers - Users!
After Flash tweaks i like:
--Registry Editor to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell showclock (or something like that) set to 0 displays battery level instead of time on top bar.
--Registry Editor to (i dont know) to disable warning for non cerified apps if anyone knows which one please mention it! (btw i am noob-rookie-plain sheep aka i dont know how to edit registry through cooking )
After Flash programs i like:
--YouTubeplay http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385227
--TF2D Dialer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429179
--A regisrty editor of your liking for above tweaks.

Thankz! Keep it clean rom. All tools can install later. I hate fat roms.
Now I using vanilla 4.01 best all rounds.
I will try to upload kitchen later today. I currently try to use old SYS (since i can't seem to find either 20755 or 20758 SYS-XIP) and see how it affects performance. I must say that it performs kinda faster but i need to test it a little bit more. I have 2 questions for you guys:
1) Would you be interested in a very very very light rom (lighter that extraclean for sure)? And if so, what apps do you think i should intergrate? (I think i should name that ROM "Strip" )
2) How do you feel about running latest SYS vs Performance? It may surprise you but older SYS may perform faster so what do you think?
Looking forward to feedback guys
Hiya Mike,
Appreciate the ROM, gonna flash it later when I'm at home.
The key thing for me is that I use IGo8 a lot now (especially for the speedcams , got caught last friday)!!
The free memory never used to be an issue, but now I'm a slave too it if I want to use Igo.
So a very clean rom would appeal to me, but I also like the new developments that get included in new roms that I would not normally be aware of.
Thanks for you time and effort!
Vince

Edit: on the windows dir issue, i've discovered in cooking that when you hide sys and oem files it makes the directory respond waaaaay faster, also the phone speeds up way quicker.
Edit2: my latest haloween rom windows dir loads in less than 1 second
I still personally think 20753 is the best one at least for me so far. The problem I have noticed with most ROM's is anytime you add anything to the /windows directory it slows down to a crawl which in turn slows things down overall.
pdacorner v24 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417233
is the only ROM I have used so far where I can add whatever to the /windows directory and its always accessed in 5seconds or under.

joshkoss - im at work so I can't do this myself but I would like for you to try something if you would. Have you installed manilla2d or any type of dialer to the ROM? How fast does it access after that?
I know I sound like a broken record and I have tested your past ROM's except the halloween one and your right it access the /windows directory almost instantly but if I install a dialer BAM SLOOOOW acess. If I install manilla2d BAM SLOOOW access. Heck if I change the manilla2d theme it slows things down.
I'm basically stuck using pdacorner v24 cause I can throw anything at the /windows directory and it still loads fast. I shouldnt use the word 'stuck' though cause it is a very good ROM.

Agree V24 is a very sweet rom!! i'll test it on my current haloween rom and let you know.
Faria, Excellent past work.. And good luck on the new rom!! can't wait!
PLEASE make the ROM with NO compresions and UC but with EXTROM also in order to avoid Hard Reset issues.
ROM PreConfig.txt points to Extrom.AutoRun and then Config (from Extrom) points to UC SDAutoRun.
Hi Jose! Good to have you back in the Hermes neighborhood (joshkoss kitchen has excellent resources). Looking forward to any hi-tech fast stable rom dish you prepare for us!!
The King is back!
Nice to see you back! I always loved your work.
I'm using 755 and it's stable and quick.
I'd love to see your work again
Cool, glad to see the chef back in the kitchen...
lagoskon asked for a rom with extrom but I REALLY don't like them.. Would ber nice if we had a choice, its up to you of course and happy to see youre back...
thank you all for you kind comments.
yes i m thinking at least 2 versions normal and big storage...i started the rom already, I’m using 20753 base as it seems the most stable but a this stage anything can change. At the moment im looking for the latest packages like... mms, windows live etc.
it has been so long since i cooked a rom a could not start the kitchen working! lol.
anyway since i had surgery in my finger last Monday for the second time i will be spending the rest of the year it seems at home, that will give me plenty of time for making roms lets hope my ASUs EEE can handle the load

Hey faria,
i have a couple of kitchens in my 4shared as well as starbase. I have found that the newest, 20758 is by far the fastest. Feel free to take a look. Both starbase and I also have a large amount of cabs in there that you can easlily make into oem's.
My 4shared
Starbase 4shared
All the best. if you need someone to play with ur roms let me know, im feeling short of flashing lately!
