its good to be back
Evenin dude!
afaik 20753/20755/20758 are the common bases being used at the moment, can only comment on the stability of 20753 which is pretty good.

hi there, long time no see! thanks for your sugestions!
20721 and 20758 are my favs! and please new funky icons too and colours abusalza has come up with some, but please master chef, create another set of funky icons/colours not that I am going to be hanging around much here anyway well it could go either way! I might learn from you how to cook
PS here is a mirror to the 20758 build of the chinese kitchen happy porting

Duuuuude! welcome back to hermes, I've always admired your roms.
feel free to check my kitchen for resources also!
Edit: on the windows dir issue, i've discovered in cooking that when you hide sys and oem files it makes the directory respond waaaaay faster, also the phone speeds up way quicker.
Edit2: my latest haloween rom windows dir loads in less than 1 second
I still personally think 20753 is the best one at least for me so far. The problem I have noticed with most ROM's is anytime you add anything to the /windows directory it slows down to a crawl which in turn slows things down overall.
pdacorner v24 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417233
is the only ROM I have used so far where I can add whatever to the /windows directory and its always accessed in 5seconds or under.

joshkoss - im at work so I can't do this myself but I would like for you to try something if you would. Have you installed manilla2d or any type of dialer to the ROM? How fast does it access after that?
I know I sound like a broken record and I have tested your past ROM's except the halloween one and your right it access the /windows directory almost instantly but if I install a dialer BAM SLOOOOW acess. If I install manilla2d BAM SLOOOW access. Heck if I change the manilla2d theme it slows things down.
I'm basically stuck using pdacorner v24 cause I can throw anything at the /windows directory and it still loads fast. I shouldnt use the word 'stuck' though cause it is a very good ROM.

Agree V24 is a very sweet rom!! i'll test it on my current haloween rom and let you know.
Faria, Excellent past work.. And good luck on the new rom!! can't wait!
PLEASE make the ROM with NO compresions and UC but with EXTROM also in order to avoid Hard Reset issues.
ROM PreConfig.txt points to Extrom.AutoRun and then Config (from Extrom) points to UC SDAutoRun.
Hi Jose! Good to have you back in the Hermes neighborhood (joshkoss kitchen has excellent resources). Looking forward to any hi-tech fast stable rom dish you prepare for us!!
The King is back!
Nice to see you back! I always loved your work.
I'm using 755 and it's stable and quick.
I'd love to see your work again
Cool, glad to see the chef back in the kitchen...
lagoskon asked for a rom with extrom but I REALLY don't like them.. Would ber nice if we had a choice, its up to you of course and happy to see youre back...
thank you all for you kind comments.
yes i m thinking at least 2 versions normal and big storage...i started the rom already, I’m using 20753 base as it seems the most stable but a this stage anything can change. At the moment im looking for the latest packages like... mms, windows live etc.
it has been so long since i cooked a rom a could not start the kitchen working! lol.
anyway since i had surgery in my finger last Monday for the second time i will be spending the rest of the year it seems at home, that will give me plenty of time for making roms lets hope my ASUs EEE can handle the load

Hey faria,
i have a couple of kitchens in my 4shared as well as starbase. I have found that the newest, 20758 is by far the fastest. Feel free to take a look. Both starbase and I also have a large amount of cabs in there that you can easlily make into oem's.

All the best. if you need someone to play with ur roms let me know, im feeling short of flashing lately!

There are some Mad Genius in this forum, I am amazed at the things you come up with and how quickly you get it stable. I have searched, pleaded, and researched to get a working Internet Sharing cab.
I am listing the existing cabs by Duttythroy, Shamanix, and myself.
I already know a lot of roms exist with Internet Sharing include, but not to offend any of the existing rom makers, you guys are doing an exceptional job. But as of today December 10, 2007, Schap's 4.01 Lite is the most responsive and stable rom available for the Hermes. The only reason I have not stuck with it, is because I need Internet Sharing, if you ever use the Hermes on a 3G network as a modem you will be impressed with its constant rate, no need for a Network Card.
Thanks Shamanix for all the work you put in trying to get this to work. Duttythroy was almost there as well.
I will definitely have a nice donation for the person that can finally fix this issue.

If you are going to make a recommendation, please make the best recommendation. If I were going to do a Full Rom it would be Schap's 4.01 Full, if I wanted his latest I would go with 4.22. The reason for Schap's 4.01 Lite, I don't need nor use all the things in the Full Rom and I need the space to install the programs that I do use. In my and a lot of others opinion, Schap's 4.01 and Shamanix Grass 1.13 are the best roms currently available for the Hermes.
I've had a hell of a time trying to get Internet Sharing back into a ROM that removed it (honestly, why the **** would cooks do that?). Adding all the IS files and the registry entries from the package .rgu file isn't enough. Something else seems to be missing. Oh bother. I guess I'll check the dependencies myself...

Internet Sharing Cabs
Here are two cab files that may allow Internet Sharing to be installed on a device that it was not originally build with.
You'll need to run cab 1 first, reset, then run 2. If all is well and correct, you'll have internet sharing working.
If not - back to the drawing board.
Edit- back to the drawing board. I'll post the new cabs after I reflash my cell and do some more work.
Thank you very much matt!!!

exactly what are the errors? I'd need to know to figure out why it can't be installed as cab. Sorry, the cab was not tested as my rom already has IS cooked into it.
the cab installs just fine but when trying to make a connection via usb with IS it fails (connection error or smth)
The bubble says: "Cannot connect for unknown reason"
any progress? anyone?
I'm still digging around.
I know schaps will be including it in 4.30 Lite.
I still would like to get a working solution, cab or otherwise.

Start-up Manager
When selected in System\Settings, you get an error message saying "BTICon.exe -target file does not exist." However when you OK out of the popup, you are taken to startup manager (looks like Windows\Startup). I have not tried any options there.
Looks good and solid otherwise, so far...

Hi Faria,
Glad to see this cooked in since it is one of my 'must have' apps. Is there a way to change the default for placing a call from the handset to the BT headset? Of all the 6.1 ROMs I tried, CRC's is the only one so far that has allowed that functionality.
Thanks

That got rid of the error message. Overall impression is very good. I am using the 10MB pp and it is really quick. The cooked in apps that I use all work well. Will begin loading my apps and post if any problems.
I must say, the most stable rom i've flashed on the hermes yet. Definitely staying with this one for now
Downloading now will post feedback later after flashing. What pagepool is recommended the default 6mb or 10mb? please advice before flashing.

Okay, this seems to be a hermes problem, not a rom issue. Of all the roms i had, when i have a lot of icons in the programs folder or the games folder and i scroll using the scrolley, the phone lags a lot and takes a bit for the icons to load. Is that regular? Should i just minimize the number of icons used?
ps. in this rom, are you able to hear incoming calls from your headset or do we have to manually configure that?
see u later guys..2:00 am here...dr.p will take over in a while.

I haven't released the kitchen I built as it's mainly re-written for my own development...
It takes a good use of cygwin, bash, perl, shell scripts, windows exe files, and more... Having all this setup for the average joe would be a nightmare to support!
So, I just keep plodding on and releasing ROMs

It really depends... sometimes it's official NBH's, others it's from an NBH from a different device, sometimes it's a rip direct from the phone (ie Part02.raw), other times it's just a SYS directory...
As there's no more official development for the Hermes, it comes down to what you can find
A nice bit of generosity from the sources of the builds would be good. Unfortuatly this has NEVER been the case and its a matter of "who you know" if you want to get hold of builds for a kitchen. The pandora series of kitchens was the daddy when it was alive.
Ive personally given up cooking my own ROMs since getting hold of a ROM build is difficult.
CRCinAU has bodged together a working stable ROM from several other devices and has ported all the bits over, whereas others have access to a build ready-made. He has done ALOT of work to get the ROMs working, alot more than the other chefs i might add since the majority of the work is porting in his case.
Shame the builds arent shread more since they ARE out there but being withheld rather selfishly.

Yknow there are many cooks out there releasing different builds to which i am very grateful for. and i'm very noobish but it seems like if we could dump builds from others like for example the latest PDAviet build.
If i could dump that properly and then build it into my own would be very cool but i'm stumped at the dumping part. I think if we could have a fixed tool that properly dumps .bin without overlap errors then we could probably jump in on the cooking bandwagon and participate, other than scrounging for pieces from here and there.
As for my last comment, It appears i received a answer finally http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2418428&posted=1#post2418428

Yep, its quite easy to build an nb which cannot be dumped....yet another way to stop people using the build inside. Im sure there is a good reason but from what i can see its merely to stop people releasing thier own ROMs, the pandora kitchens showed that most people used it to customise a ROM for thier own needs rather than release a ROM.
I am absolutely no specialist (only experienced a lot of trial and error), but what I can say to people looking for building themselves a kitchen from new builds is that they must perform a little porting from "live" devices that keep receiving updates. Getting your hands on an originally shipped ROM is essential as CRC said before.
For now the "easy" one is Kaiser and it is not very complicated if one was used to bepe's kitchen before. Search for EasyPortOven that comes handy is this case. Porting from newer devices like Diamond, Raphael is more complex due to resolution (at least) and people that have done it can have a word here maybe.
This is also a good reason why I spend most of the time in this forum over at the Kaiser section. It is more alive.
Good tips and discussion! We do have some kitchens available in our forum. Although finding a good kitchen here is sometimes like pulling the teeth! This is the truth back when i had my wizard too!
What can I say mr. mrvanx, I totally agree with you. Pandora has shown us a way to customize the ROM's as per our own needs, and that gave all of us freedom of choice. My last build with Pandora was the fastest one at that time, which made me quite happy.
I would be very grateful to who ever will release an updated kitchen for us. The kitchen from Tyr0 is a very good one and fast. But I wanted to get a newer one, that will contain updated clock.exe, UsbToPc.exe (with possibility to have my TyTN as a Usb Drive), clean E & G icons and other nice features that the latest ported builds have.
I hate when ROM' Chefs believe that by releasing a kitchen, everyone will be making money on them and not give any credit to the initial builders and share money received. Perhaps there is a good reason for that, but WHY PAY you guys (rom chefs) when instead of solving problems of one build you are actually jumping onto another and release a new ROM. You are asking for so called "donations", but you don't give us, simple users, any support for "your" freshly cooked builds. We are still facing the problems with IrDA, Bluetooth and constant freezes or hard resets. But it seems that you don't give a damn thing about it, and continue to ask for donations.
Look at mattk_r, he supported Pandora Kitchen until it has gotten to a perfect point. There were no issues whatsoever, and ROM performed so great that it was a pleasure to spend a few hours just to build my own rom one day.
Too bad the development has stopped right before the new builds started to come out.
I admire CRCinAU as I have tried every single ROM he has build and I've seen how much effort he put in his "creations". Most of them performed very well for me. But, I like ROM's to be as small as they can be; without any additional software/pictures/sounds/never used OEM apps etc. That's why I have stopped on Tyr0 v.1.2 ROM, which at the moment suits me quite well.
CRCinAU, if you don't mind of course, I would love to see a kitchen from you based on your latest release. It doesn't have to have all the OEM additional apps, as I believe everyone of us has them all. But it would be nice to have Bigstorage ROM in it's initial version, with the option (if possible of course) to remove some of the OEM apps such as Welcome Center, Error Reporting, Clear Storage etc. What would you say?
Yknow what would be sweeet
If we had a kitchen, that was updateable like in the first post. That could easily port other builds (Maybe having easyportoven built in).
a bunch of SYS folders from recent builds
People that want to play with porting may want to check this thread for SYS builds:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402752
I admire the work the many chefs on this forum put out there work has made my device so much better.
I love CRC's roms, but I was wondering if there is a way to strip out OEM stuff, I like my roms as clean as possible from flash, maybe with the options to put stuff back in with UC if its wanted.
(I hate the HTC button task manager for example)
I have though about trying to cook a rom myself, but its far to complex for me dig around and find what I would need, one, large, thread would be perfect.
Maybe if people want to make sure you give credit, they could add a hard coded boot screen or summit?

As I've said here, I don't think it'd be wise for me to release a kitchen as I've hugely customised it for my needs... This means you need cygwin + perl + bash etc installed on windows for it to work correctly. It would also take me quite some time to convert it back into a simple kitchen for someone else to use.
As far as the average person goes, this would be way beyond them. I don't mind if someone builds one based on the dump of my ROM - MRH ROMs are built exactly this way...

Dude! U rock!! is this big storage?
First of all, HUGE thanks to psuarmy, bilbobrian, and bepe (they know why). Last year, in my first period class (basketball), somebody decided to jack my 8525 and took off with it which upset me a lot. Well, i finally got an 8525 so i can cook for it. I've spent quite some time getting it all ready and it's finally good to go.
I offered this same service for the Kaiser and a lot of people seemed to like it so i thought i'd bring it here. It'll bring a lot more load on me, but i'm on summer vacation until the 25th and then school starts (will continue to do this even when i have school hopefully).
Most chefs tend to cook what the majority of the people like including myself. When i cooked my first ROM and asked people for feedback/suggestions, i did get a few programs that everybody liked but there were many suggestions of programs that each different user liked. So i could have cooked Livcast in which Joe wanted, but Mary wouldn't use it at all; that kind of thing
I couldn't get anybody to cook what i wanted so i did it myself So i'm opening up this thread for ANYBODY who has a request to cook a ROM which can include ANY program (or rather anything they want). I will cook commercial programs, but will NOT include any license/registration key; that's up to you to get. The format should look something like this:
Programs: Thousands of these.
Games: Thousands of these to
Version: Here you can tell me whether you want a cube version, non-cube version, diamond build, etc.
Other: Whatever else you'd like.
Preferred Upload Host: Have problems with RS? No problem, just tell me the site and i'll upload it there. I can also upload to Jannaa's blogspot thanks to her generosity!
You can help aplace4u.biz to stay free.
Chances are that I probably have access to the programs you want, so i'll make them to an OEM if i don't already have them.
I'm on summer vacation so I have quite some time and i'd like to devote it in helping out (not just here but anywhere). If this doesn't go so well, i'll just ask a mod to delete the thread.
This is 100% FREE and i'd like to help as much as I can, but if you can/are able to, i have PAYPAL @ ksallstar2013 at yahoo.
Thanks to all the following supporters:
-dr_tracker
Ooo! Like the sound of this.
Programs: Samsung time, iContact, Windows live, office, pocket rar, softkey changer, pocketIRC, Schaps advanced config, Oxios Memory, phm regedit, and finaly pbar.
If you dont have any of these, just ask and ill post them up.
Games: just the default ones will do
Other: button 5 fix, and com manager toggle vibrate fix. As clean as you can, maybe take out error reporting, managed programs, and clear storage as well as the normal stuff like welcome centre.
I would like HTC connection wizard in there as well.
10 button black comm manager, and this dialler.
Version: I dont mind to much, I dont use anything like the Cube, just the newest you have. (WM6.1 of cause) I see build 20273 around, maybe newer if you have it
If i missed anything, just say and ill get right back to you!
New chef???
Or you just came back from the future? I have a perfect ROM so far, for what I need, let's see if someone else can come up with some ideas.

That's why I said he came from the 'future' as he's been doing ROMs for the kaiser. I think I have also picked my next ROM for the kaiser, but will see what's on offer here
Lol, now i know what you mean. Well if you read the first few sentences of the post, i had an 8525 before my Tilt. Then some loser jacked it from me when i was dressing out after my practice
I've done over 40 ROMs for the Kaiser (look at the thread or a picture here) It's been great assisting people. Can get extremely stressful, however the outcome is well worth it when people like it
@ veyka, i have everything you said except oxios and pbar; will look into getting those
You should check up for Abusalza and Starbase64 4shared directories on their signatures. They have plenty of cabs ...

Lol, thanks for the attatchments, but I already had them downloaded after you requested them . I'll try to make pbar into a cab, no problem

Exactly...with 2G dialer, netcf 3.5, schaps config v2.1, task manager v3.1, 6mb PP, no splashs...
HOLD up for now...Im looking at some other possible IU & apps!
btw, have u heard of RemoteTracker - Antitheft software and cooked it in any roms? See Post#1 for info "ROM cookers can use this DLL to make RT hard reset safe!" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394203

HAHA that got your attention huh?
I just thought I'd start a thread for people who might be considering upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.1. You should post why you like a certain rom, which features you like, and what could be better.
Since (and I am pretty sure on this) that all of the builds are based on "chunks" of the OS taken from other phone's distributions, there isn't a "hermes specific" guide to improvements that these newer OSs give the user.
So if you feel like it, post away. Hopefully if anything, this will serve as a basis for which rom to choose.
Please don't spam the thread with posts agreeing with other users. I didn't intend for this thread to be a discussion. Try not to post based off other posts, and please
DON'T QUOTE ANYONE!
This means if someone says "I like schaps because its purple and neat looking", don't post "YA IT SURE IS". Just post AGAIN stating that it is purple, as well as what else you like about it.
Reserved for future use
ROM: CRCs STABLE (v11.2; 17-Jul)
This is a great rom to use. Battery life is excellent, and my phone never hangs / crashes. (hence the stable). I like that it accepts dialer customizations (3G dialer from the kaiser for instance) without making you go through a graphic nightmare trying to get it to work.
I *have* noticed some WIFI issues however... Not being able to connect to networks that I KNOW are open. It will say you are connected, however you won't be able to transfer. This however is only a very rarely encountered issue, and usually at WIFI hotspots in restaurants and hotels. It ALWAYS works on my home network.
Rom seems on par with most when speed is considered. It is not either slow, nor exremely fast. Quick enough to do most any task with less than a 1 second wait.
I would definately recommend this rom for use by anyone who is considering their first upgrade, or anyone who wants a very useable rom with a good basic set of programs and tools.
Thank you for bringing this up
Personally, I would say CRCinAU's roms have been the benchmark for other chefs to 'match' or 'better'
These days abusalza is that chef. Again these are my personal opinion, you really NEED TO FLASH ALL THE ROMS, to find what you like and what you don't.
No one can tell me what I will like and what I won't like, as it is down to preference.
So, in other words, .... this thread is pretty useless
in here is a link to rom benchmarks (great job be veyka) to assist U:
>>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419158
Why did you post that? tell me, is there anywhere out there where there is a "consumer reports" type of ROM review?
Rom choice is.. very much what you like.
I can tell you from exp, and I have flashed almost every rom here, as im sure many other people can, that its the ONLY way to know what to use.
There isnt a bad rom, just one that isnt right for you.
since joining this community, i have flashed many roms. I have flashed almost every release during that time, it would exceed 100 roms.
now, what i have noticed is that it doesnt matter which rom i chose, i end up putting the applications on it which i like. Some of the roms have these and others do not. so really, find what it is you like, get the cabs for it, and almost all roms are the same.
there is the stability and speed of roms which is different. but with a 400mhz processor, the speed is barely noticeable unless you change the pagepool.
There is one rom that i always return to when i am away for a while, being Berds 4.31 SS
I find there is a huge difference in speed and battery drain between different WM6.1 roms.
I would personally hold up CRC and PDAcorner as the best two out there atm.
(main difference is if you like your rom vanilla or not)

Hmm hardly a 'consumer' report, as most of them don't donate, may be you should call it 'free loaders report'

btw, on that note. WM6 is WM6, whatever device its on, each rom comes with diffrent stuff cooked in..
Same goes for 6.1.
Its also quite easy to tell if the roms your cup of tea from the thread and screenshots, eg, does it look loaded, lite, comes with HTC home ect!

I reccommend
learning how to cook your own! it's pretty freaking sweet when you can do your own preferences to your rom in the oven and then flash it! I've been flashing wm6 and 6.1 for a while and just started and i'm not going back man!! Flash and learn!! do it! ;0

well dude,
I hate to send people on wild goose chases.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415198 has a rollup on very useful stuff.
bepe's kitchen is in there download and read the entire thing.
download every hermes kitchen you can find and just start messing with stuff.. RGU's are all registry entries. modify and open xml's to see what they do. and just start poking around, eventually (3 months) you'll get a working almost stable build! Every change you make be sure to note it incase you need to go back and correct.. Also note what you did to fix stuff.
Then when you have questions PM and i'll try and help as much as i can but i'm still new.
Or search and bug the crap out of people. at least thats how i did it.
Also the Hypercore kitchen has a good manual with it.. On porting, the noob way for porting is easyportoven, otherwise search xip and sys porting and there is a nice thread on it..
The rest is just trial and error.
