How to create a cab for operator settings?

As I'm testing the different WM6 Roms I have to enter all the settings again and again and again. Now I'm thinking about creating a cab file with the operator and email account settings. But how to create it?

someone didnt take the time to search or RTFW
I saw the thread but not the cab file, sorry guys.
I would also like to know this...
CWW Enterprises Operator PDA Manager is great don't get me wrong, but by the time you install the software, download the operator lists etc, I can manually enter my own settings! and as I'm only interested in one network settings and one country, it would be far quicker & easier to have a cab file for the settings!
So, how can I create my own cab file?
so let me spoon feed you guys....

ROM COOK WANTED: SecureROM!

Hi Cooks! I need some help from you :-D
I want to know my data secure and possible stolen hardware findable/trackable. And all this WITHOUT changing daily workflows!
My idea is a special "SecureROM" which should contain additional to normal ROMS:
o callFirewall (with Autostart)
o remoteProtect (ATTENTION: individual CAB!!)
The idea is to put remoteProtect (i think its much better than UTA V3 and friends) directly into the ROM. So a thief cant simply hardreset the device (and cancel Ext-Rom installations) and we have the first real secure PDAphone:
o PIN Code for logon activated (5mins idle)
o Storage Card encryption on
o remoteProtect installed
o Bonus: Callfirewall for blocking anonymous phone calls
When the device is lost / stolen - the thief (finder) has the possibility to give it back: Your name / 2nd phonenumber is on the PIN-Loginscreen AND on the remoteProtect lock-screen.
If he DOESNT want to give it back - you can remotely lock, wipe and kill the device.
If you dont know where the device is - you can get information about inserted SIM, IMEI, IMSI (police-tracking) and battery status.
If the thief chances Ownername or SIM - you will be notified and can react.
The thief cant bypass the PIN to get into WM6. He cant pull out the storagecard and get it into a cardreader... because all files there are encrypted with AES. If he softresets - he is still locked. A hardreset will make all informations gone - even those on storagecard - and with remoteProtect in the ROM he will STILL be trackable!!
SO: With this configuration you can feel your data on your device pretty protected... and even your hardware keeps trackable with one exception: When the thiefs flashes an own ROM.
So if you like this idea dear Chefs - could you give it a try and find out how to implement remoteProtect into your ROMS?
PROBLEM: For this issue, you would have to add the possibility to add an individual cab (which is configured and built by the remoteProtect installer BEFORE COOKING) right before flashing. (here is remoteProtect for testing purposes: http://www.scpsoft.com/remoteprotect.htm [Attention MODs: This is NOT a WAREZlink!])
HINT: If using UTA (second best solution) instead of remoteProtect you will have to insert two configfiles (1 XML and 1 txt - File) individually before flashing.

Paranoid much ?
Probably an IMO for the US Govt somewhere. They are worse than Nazis. That is why I ditched my issued blackberry for my Hermes.
Well, I think that this is not much paranoid.
I spent for my PDA over 700 euros, so if it is stolen it isn't very good!!! ;-)
For this reason, I bought a legal copy of UTA (Ultimate Theft Alert v.3) and I updated my Schap's 3.30c ROM with all necessary files from the original "UTA v3.CAB" (no Config, only program, dll, and configuration and license files...).
It seems to run very well!!!
Today, after reading this thread, I tried remoteProtect, but I don't like it so much, because if I send a SMS to my PDA, then the theft will see it and can go to flight mode.
If you want to do the ROM upgrade, you must choose your preferred ROM. After, I suggest the "CorePRO_HermKitchen.exe", that contains all the tools you need, with a tutorial about dumping and cooking your ROM.
If you need help, I'm here!
Bye Bye.
I think it's a good idea - I used to work in the Netherlands and on an emergency trip home one weekend, my phone was stolen by someone after my luggage was checked in at Schipol (it was the first HTC Canary smartphone, actually ) Anyway, I didn't notice that it was missing until I got back to NL 4 days later as I thought I'd just missed it in my rushed packing, but in that time, the thieving toerag had run up a £650 phone bill (it was stolen in NL and I got stiffed for roaming charges too
So anyway, I'd be interested too
Smiffy.
@NRGZ28: Yes - I am really paranoid... - this comes with the job
But as Mobilez6600 states correctly - its a question of hardware value too...
@Mobilez6600: Ill have a look into CorePRO_HermKitchen.exe - all I played around so far was Bepes Kitchen... there was no howto and i just cooked a german ROM - i think i was just lucky
Ill give it a try - but if there is a tutorial anywhere i would be glad!
greetz, licht
PS: On my installation the thief cant see the incoming sms... ?

Thanks NRGZ28, I guess, for your concern about my comfort, everything is fine in that department.
Even more thanks to the mods for their continuous efforts in keeping this site warez free.
@Mobilez6600: Thx for your informations!
I read into Core Kitchen, dumped my preferred rum (Schaps 3.30c german) and created a package out of the desired cab according to theese snippets from the forum:
I don't know if the new Office will work on other builds....
Sorry i can't be more specific...but i didn't tried it so far. So i can't tell you what files to copy or if it will work.
Just try and if you get it working...then you could share that with us too.
I am in the middle of something now and can't try this now....Hope you understand.
Regarding on How to make a package....
* Take a CAB
* Open it with CabAnaliser ...in Extra folder
* Select the XML tab...there save the registry settings in an unicode txt file.
* Extract all files
* Place all files in an folder , and add there an .dsm and rename the previous txt file in .rgu ....assign both the .dsm and the .rgu an UUID (both same UUID)
* Run the initflashfile generator...in Extra folder. Follow instructions...
* Place the generated "initflashfiles.txt" in the same folder you placed previous files
* Give a friendly name to your folder , move it into the OEM folder and pray it will work.
That's it. If you read previous posts you'll know what an .dsm is and how to make one and what is an UUID and where to get it from.
- TIP : If that doesn't work, open the initflashfiles.txt and replace all the "squares" with an tap on ENTER button....It's easy to check the initflashfiles.txt than to create it without that program, trust me.
to create a .dsm
* Create a new empty .txt document
* Go here http://www.famkruithof.net/uuid/uuidgen/ and create a "RANDOM" UUID (example of UUID :2981dd18-0f2c-11dc-8314-0800200c9a66)
* Rename the *.txt into 2981dd18-0f2c-11dc-8314-0800200c9a66.dsm (the UUID is only for example, create your own)
* If you have registry settings, use THE SAME UUID ...so for example rename the *.reg file into : 2981dd18-0f2c-11dc-8314-0800200c9a66.rgu

So far - so good. Additionally, a single txt file needs to be copied into rootfolder of the device before installing my custom cab... i put it into rootfolder of the cab for testing.
Unfortunately i get an error during build_os: "Could not find file d:\core\kitchen\temp\dump\Program Files\imageinfo.bin" when build_os is processing my created folder in OEM.
Any advice is highly appreciated...
There is a .DOC tutorial about dumping and re-creating ROM in CorePro_HermKitchen. I used it and I only inserted my files in a folder. After, I modified "initflashfiles.dat", to copy a link in \Windows\StartUp directory, so UTA could run automatically on soft-reset (and hard-reset ;-).
I don't know if it is right way, but it runs, and I'm happy!
Sorry for my late answer, i was - ehm unavaliable - some days.
You are talking about initflashfile.txt and not .dat right?
I still get this error, but i will keep working on it

I tested that tool and found it great too - but it has no SIM detection. Another con is that its in extended ROM which can be easily bypassed by canceling the installation after a hardreset.
After excessive tests with all those tools i have this personal ranking:
1. remoteProtect (commercial, Trial avaliable) pro: a lot of useful commands executeable via SMS, device completely killable, recognizes SIM card change (supports 2 SIMs) as well as owner name changes. Needs 1 txt file as config in the rootfolder during installation when included into a ROM.
2. UTA v3 (commercial Trial avaliable) Recognizes SIM change (supports several SIMs), sends SMS. No SMS commands possible. Optionally (commerical plugin) sends contactlist too. Needs 2 individual files included in ROM.
3. IIWPO (free, xda-dev)
Recognizes change of owner name. Needs 1 individual file included in ROM. No SMS commands possible, no recognation of SIM change.
What prevents a reflash with different rom?
nothing i am afraid... as there is no lockable bootloader
But i think its much easier for a thief to hardreset than to flash... the "flashers" are rather an exception i hope.
If you have any idea to lock the device with the bootloader - tell me

@licht77: remotePROTECT is great. But how to install the 1txt file in root folder? Will this survive a hardreset?
Hi Pappl!
Yes, it should survive a hardreset... thats why i dont want to put it into extRom (because the installation of all the extRom - stuff can be cancelled too easy by a hardreset followed by a softreset after screen calibration) but in ROM itself.
This way you have a) your data pretty secure and b) may track down a possible thief. The only thing a (skilled) thief could do is to completely reflash the device (but if he is curious before and tries to access your data with his SIM or so... hehe then u got him)
Like walshieau proposed, it should be possible even to block a complete reflash of the device by a custom booloader - but i dont want to nag olipro before the other tasks are finnished. In that case a stolen hermes is really useless for the thief... and thats a nice idea if this could prevent theft
remotePROTECT can be installed without that text file to the root folder, you just need to set it up first, and extract the setupE.txt file from it's running folder then rebuild it into that folder from the cab file.
I however would like to do this without the cab, cab's can be prevented from running by simply softresetting during that phase of the setup. I have built all the files into one of my roms and put in all the registry entries however the application does not work this way! Setup.dll seems to do some important things and I'm not sure what.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm gonna email the author asking.
You are right... didnt see that encrypted "setupE" file...
Which kitchen are u using? What were the steps u did until now? I am sure we can solve this!

Flashing a Kaiser Rom on to a Hermes

To the Rom chefs out there (btw you guys are the greatest), how difficult would it be to flash a kaiser rom on to a hermes? Would it be impossible or feasible? The reason I ask is that I am intrested in the software features of the kaiser but it will not be available in the states for a while (and my company may not upgrade for a while). I'm not sure how similar devices handle roms but if I could get a hermes with touchflo, built in improved home and com managers, and an app to recognize business cards... well that would rock. Just an idea I would appreciate any feedback.
Itz not difficult... only question is... does it work???
I would love to see that, but that is a hell of a question "Will it work?"!
Here is a short answer for you... HELL NO but if you like try it and then send me your bricked hermes!
Won't work out of the box, but you can extract whatever you want and cook it into your own ROM, using one of existing Hermes ROMs as a base.
Would it be possible to switch out the touch.dll file with the one from the kaiser to try to get touchflo working on the hermes (I'm comfertable setting up the business card recognizer through a cab)?

i take no credit for this, i am a noob loke you all, i myself like the att base that i get from vp3G you exrtact the base using romdonalds, you can cook with it to, but i cant understand it, i need to take more time. however i take the base and use it with pandora's build os, i also put added stuff in the pandora with Bennec83's instructions.

Bennec83's cab-oem
1: Download CAB Manager from Rapidshare or Megaupload
2: Unpack the CABManager.exe and run it
3: Drop your CAB into CAB manager
4: Extract all the files in the CAB, to do this click the icon 3left from the XML button (It has SEL in small letters at the top of the button) LEAVE THE CABManager.exe RUNNING AS YOU WILL NEED IT FOR STEP 10
5: Go into the folder that you extracted your CAB to, there will be an *.inf (* = Name of the CAB), delete it as it is not needed
6: There will also be another folder inside the directory where you extracted the CAB, this will probably be called "Windows" or "Program Files"
These files contain all the files that are supposed to be in each directory on your device. i.e. all files in "Program Files" will get installed to the "Program Files" on your device when you install the CAB.
Never-the-less, these directories are not needed as we want all the files in the same folder, so copy the contents of each folder, into the folder where you extracted the CAB, do this for all folders that were extracted from the CAB
7: Go Here To Generate A GUID. Set it to "Version 4:Random" and press "Get" (It should look something like this - 21f768ec-4901-11dc-8314-0800200c9a66 - I will Note it as <GUID> instead of loads of numbers for ease of typing)
8: Go into the folder you extracted your CAB to, with all the files out of their directories, create TWO new text files.
For the FIRST text file: name it with the GUID you just generated in step 7 and change the file extension from "<GUID>.txt" to "<GUID>.dsm", press yes to the "Change File Extension" Warning
For the SECOND text file: give it the SAME GUID as above, but change the extension from "<GUID>.txt" to "<GUID>.rgu", press yes to the "Change File Extension" Warning
9: OPEN the "<GUID>.rgu" and select "SAVE AS.." select "UNICODE" (Default is ANSI), then go to the "Save as Type" Menu and select "All Files" and select your "<GUID>.rgu" and select "Yes" to the "Are you Sure You Want To Replace" warning
10: Go back to CABManager.exe and select the "XML" button, and a new window will pop up. In the new window select the tab "Registry Keys"
This will show you all of the REG Keys related to that CAB (If there are any, sometimes the software doesn’t need any so there will be nothing here!!)
Assuming that there are REG Keys, copy them all into the "<GUID>.rgu" and save it, REMEMBER TO SAVE AS "UNICODE"
Next you MUST make sure that the following is in the "<GUID>.rgu"
A: TOP LINE MUST say "REGEDIT4" (no ""), followed by a blank line, eg to follow:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Customize]
"Ver" = "1.0"
this must change to:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Customize]
"Ver" = "1.0"
B: Go to the end of the "<GUID>.rgu" and ensure that after the last line of text there is another blank line
AFTER you have edited the "<GUID>.rgu" with the correct things, SAVE IT AS "UNICODE"
11: 1: Download this "option.xml" from Rapidshare or SendSpace
Open the "option.xml" and edit the bits that need editing.
you will see what I mean, as I have created the option.xml to be self explanatory!!!
I hope this helps, if you have any questions PM me

There are already LOTS of threads about ROMs with the Kaiser comm manager, dialler etc built in - there's been god knows how many attempts to get touchflo working, cooking in kaiser's touch.dll, hacking the old one, creating new ones, all about why you can't flash another device's ROM on to a hermes - mulitple threads about every damn thing you've been talking about, some of them not even that far away from the front page and none of you have taken the effort to have a look.

Here is some insite! IT cant be done! you can take certain apps and features from the kiaser rom which has been done many many times if you search for kiaser im sure you will find the home plug in the dail pad and the com manger and im sure some other things but here is a little hint you cant port the touchflow many have tried and come close but it just wont work yet! you can not flash another devices rom to the hermes sorry just wont work.

But seriously, if I cant flash the Kaiser Rom to my Tytn, can I port it into i-phone. Then I won't have any communication devices to post stupid questions again
I hear what you are saying, I actually run a tweaked out Hermes with HTC home (latest version from shen) dialer (older version I don't like the 3g video dialer) and com manager (10 button kaiser) though I use the offical att rom as my base. I have read the threads EXTENSIVELY both here and on other sites 4windows mobile tri-syndicate etc.(Stuff by JJ, Custel, etc.) I've even played with the Touchflo Alpha cab. My question was if it would be possible to take the whole kaiser rom (as opposed to extracting portions of it and loading them into one of the hermes roms) and load it on to a hermes, mainly because the issue (from what I have read) with touchflo is the touch.dll file and how it functions (wizard, kaiser, and elf similar, heremes is different) and this dead ends most projects. I was thinking that perhaps flashing the whole ROM might get around this (basically try to run a kaiser on a hermes, I was hoping that the devices were similar enough it might work). I guess the answer is no. The other thought I had was that perhaps the new offical release might be easier to work with (and the business card app is pretty sweet). I am somewhat technical but not a developer (though I work for for a large development firm) perhaps I misunderstood how a rom works and flashing the entire thing will not be posible nor will it solve any of the issues the chefs have been running into. It was just an idea.

I basic newb question about wm6 rom upgrading

if I upgrade to Karmba_a_6.2_EN-18548, do I lose all my phones network settings?
Or will this just upgrade the OS and leave the orange network settings, and installed programs intact?
Sorry if this is a basic newbie question.
I have he original Orange rom that was kindly listed for backing out if needed, and I understand that my warrenty will be invalid if I brick it and can't back it out.
I love the look of the touchflo cube stuff and how much cooler the WM6 interface looks, and the reports of better performance under WM6, and apparently how Orange won't officially make an upgrade rom.
I just want to outdo my bosses new iPhone

Yes it's a newbie question
If you flash any ROM you will loose EVERITHING
If you flash you will loose warranty
But you always can "downgrade" and get warranty again
trinityguides....
Thanks. I knew it had to be asked before.
Just finding where to start was the tricky part.
So much useful stuff from so many knowledgeable people.

Dont worry......Karmba has network wizard in his ROM, you can find it in start/settings/connection, so it will automatically detect your network & set everything for you......
That is even better.
Excellent news.
I guess I shall give it a go tonight.
The Auto detect network settings option found in WM6 Roms is "all well and good" but it does miss certain Orange UK customised settings so I would advise that you install this Orange UK Settings CAB v1.6. by rabdo . The file configures default orange custom settings to name but a few.
Description: -Installs Internet and MMS settings for Orange UK
-changes UMTS prefix to 3G when on 3G networks
-fixes voicemail icon
-fixes user agent ID (for orangeworld)
-changes regional settings to UK
-Black-IV-Shadow compliant!!! (contains sdkcerts)
-Adds Pocket IE shortcut to orangeworld
I shall add that to the list of things to add.
I've already backed up with SettingSaviour.
So I guess it is
Unlock
Flash
add the cab for the orange custom operator settings
re-install tomtom
restore the backup I have of data and settings.
I have installed Karmba into my D810, but the new rom unable to retrieve contact from my SIM. Now i force to copy all the Sim contacts to phones inorder to use it.
Any idea how to fix this ?

Edit your registry to change the ShowSim key in HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone to value: 1 (dword) for showing SIM contacts.
You can turn it off by changing the key to 0 (dword).
Well, it is flashed and running and my settings are back.
I had to reflash the radio rom back to a higher one, to get GPS back, but SettingSaviour/Pimbackup and the Orange settings cab did the job.
Still need to work out why Touchflo isn't so sensitive, but minor things.

Any way i can del all my phone contact ?
I unable to see "select all" in phone contact option.
Thanks again.

Need help with operator settings cab

Please, can anyone help me create operator settings cab for T-Mobile HR network ?
All this time I had to manually create all my settings after flashing ROMs and it is a pain in the arse
I have extracted provmxl files with all the settings from the T-Mobile HR WM6 ROM, now I just need help with creating a cab file with it..
What files do I need for the cab and how do I initiate creation of the settings from provmxl files after installation ?
If anyone can tell me step by step how to create a cab or create a cab for me if it is easier then explaining, I have attacked the provmxls that needs to be edited a bit...
Thanks in advance!
Check Schaps. He has a cab listed that is a connections wizard that will detect and set up your phone...It works for AT&T so I would think it would for you....Look at his rom post and you should find it...
I know there is a connection wizard, but there are no Croatian networks present, so it will not work for me
The only way for me is to create provmxl file with all the settings that can be then used with network connection wizard. The provmxl files are here, they just need to be edited a bit since there is some crap in there that has nothing to do with operator settings..
I would like if someone could help me create cab file with settings for just my network since I don`t want/need other network settings and they will just use my storage space for no reason..
Hey Shamanix, i see what you're trying to do and sorry i can't help. But would it not be more beneficial for you (and everyone) to send these settings over to Schap and have him integrate them INTO the connection wizard? This way they are there for future users in one easy spot.
