Remove carrier (telstra) customisation TreoPro - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I'm very new to Winmo, comming from years of PalmOS. Have just got a TreoPro, in Australia, and want to remove all the carrier customisation? Is there a way to do this? Perhaps stop it happening in the first place, in WM6.1 on the Pro?

have you tried doing a soft reset before the customisation starts?
The problem with Telstra roms is they tend to leave out lots of things and sometimes cripple some things as well.
I had a jamin and the telstra rom was much smaller than the standard WWE rom.
No harm in trying this.
I am not sure if there is a dedicated forum for the treopro here , but if you look I am sure it is possible to flash a non customised rom that includes the carrier settings for other carriers if you wish.
Make sure you read a bit and apply an appropriate unlocker and SPL first.

Sjeesh man, life is too short to be vague. :| What is it you wish to accomplish?
(Since you posted in 'Unlocking it', it may well be that you wish to use this phone on some other provider than the one that is providing you with the phone, and that you suspect that the phone has a SIMlock set....)
XDA-Developers
i've got an MDA Vario II and just updated it to the original WM6 ROM which was available from T-Mobile, but I am very disappointed - in some things:
- The Power Consumption has increased
- Some Programs are even not in this ROM like the "Notes" Application and the Calculator
- The Performance is not as good as under WM5
- The WMP cannot play MP4 Files
...There are some more issues but I don't want to list them all, because this is not my core question
What I want to know is if it is possible to install the O2 Rom or if you can recommend me another ROM, it is no problem if it is in english, it just should be having all the WM Standard Programs and it should have more performance.
Can I get the original HTC ROM somewhere ?

Mobile Operator Settings...

Hey, I've always seen this (mobile operator settings) when I'm upgrading a ROM, but I have NO idea what it does. When I select my carrier, it seems to install something, but after the installation I still have to configure my carrier's (Cingular) GPRS and MMS settings. (Maybe it's not suppose to do that at all?)
So, what exactly does this cab do when it's installing, and what does it install? What I THINK it's supposed to do is not happening (putting in GPRS/3g and MMS setting)...but if it did, it would make installing new ROMs just that much easier. Not that I'm complaining, I just want to know what it does.
Thanks in advance.
I noticed this too on my O2 UK settings - seems to do something - then still have to add them manually!!
So on one knows?
It corects the name in the OperatorNames section of your registry, adds email settings, sometimes wallpapers and in the case of 02 i think the o2 active application, thats what its supposed to do also it removes some bits the network wants removed or may lock settings
I think that is certainly what the Operator versions do...
I think if you mean the CABs included with say Jwrights ROMs, these are little homemade CABs supposed to set up all your operator settings as the Operator CABs do, but it seems it only works for some and not others.
I'd love to know how to write CAB files myself, cos you're right, stuff like that would be sooooo handy to produce and post!
@NokiaIRL, I've seen a few of your posts and you certainly seem to know what you're talking about.... fancy writing some operator CABs? And if you do... can you take me through the process? (Or anyone else who can guide).

Yea that sounds good.
It came across my mind because I when I'd do a FW upgrade on my Sony Ericsson, I'd just have to goto the SE website to have them send the configurations to my phone, and it was that simple.
One that works ALL THE TIME would be great for the Uni.

In theory it should be a standard process. Would be great if we could sort this out... any of the dev's able to guide us a bit?

Do not understand this WM6 and hermes issue

hey Guys,
I'm pretty new to this kinda stuff and i just got a Dopod 838 Pro, im guessing this is the Australian version of the Hermes, its manufactured by HTC. here in Australia for some reason we have like 3 different brand names for them but their all the same!.... anyways to the point, i read all these different threads with all these different WM6 versions on it and i have no idea anymore which is the right one?!?!?!
i want to upgrade my dopod to the WM6 but i don't no which OS to choose? which is the best atm and why is it so hard to get them working? its not like just a copy of windows xp and you install it?
Also what is LVSW mean or whatever ppl are saying on here lol
Latest Version Software? haha
So yea which copy do i use?
Hi,
I'm using Dopod 838Pro too.
There are pros and cons for all the WM6, it all depends on what you want (more embedded software? more memory?)
As for myself, I've been using XDA Live v0.1 then v0.2. I'm still waiting for v0.3 I have not tried the rest, because I think I prefer XDA Live and I'll wait for kyphur
Thanks!

best thing to do is get onto Hard-SPL then start trying them all out before finally settling on one and lobbing all your crap into it.
I would even go one step further (which I have) and purchase Sprite Back and perform an Update Restore .. this will allow you to flash new ROMS and in one restore you have all your apps back...
The Update Restore function allows you to change OS's or devices and restore all of your applications. (Just be sure to follow the steps every time)

Remigi,
There is some good advise in all of the above. The only thing you can really do to be honest is read all of the forums relating to the upgrade process, especially the wiki!!!! Then once you feel you are adequately ready take the plunge. An extra piece of advise that I will dispense if you don't mind as I am struggling with it at the moment is;
Copy down all of your data settings and connection details - or confirm (via the forums) that the settings that are out here all work and will get you back sending mms / gprs / wap(?) etc etc. I flashed my 2 day old Orange M3100 (same thing as you just branded for UK) and I am still trying to get all of this functionality back properly.
As for which ROM to use..... I am using the one mentioned in my sig block (the second one) the black v1.2. It absolutely dumps all over the bog standard carrier rom!!!
Hope this helps

This is good advice...but what are you missing? I am on Orange UK and it takes less than five minutes to re-enter GPRS/WAP/MMS settings and load the sdk certs and the smsproviders.dll (to get the voicemail notifications) following a rom update.
so whats the difference between them all? like atm i have the standard WM5 Hutchinson's three software on there which has nothing special apart from every time u put a simcard in it downloads the settings automatically.... called network setup or something... but yea.. what the diff between like vanilla and xda and black and all those... isnt it all just WM6?

Upgrade to WM6???

I have a Cingular 8525 and it is unlocked and I use T-Mobile service with it. I see that T-mobile has released the WM6 upgrade...http://home.businesswire.com/portal...d=news_view&newsId=20070502006572&newsLang=en
My question is should I upgrade using the T-mobile version or should i wait and get the cingular version of WM6? Also, is it worth the trouble to upgrade? Im a pretty heavy user of all the features of the phone.
Also, what software would you recommend me using to backup my programs on my phone if i do upgrade?
Thanks in advance,
Rjp20
tell me how that works out loading a WM6 smartphone ROM on your hermes i would love to know...
45 posts no less you would have thought but i guess that just goes to show its not how many its what they say!~

I would say "Yes" Go ahead and upgrade your phone with that Rom.
Is it worth the trouble; well Tell us the trouble you have after you upgrade to the t-mobile rom.
As for Backup software I would suggest ArcServe 7. Oh wait I think ArcServe has a newer mobile version!
Seriously, you should read the wiki and maybe a few threads before upgrading (or should I say bricking) your phone.

If you wernt so fast to be a SMART ASS you would realise that they have ALSO released a version for the MDA and the Dash...
90 post no less... Your post was pointless and not helpful at all. It just showed how much of an ASS you really are
As I understand it, Cingular has a load of bloatware installed - but if you use this stuff then the t-mobile ROM won't include a lot of it and you'll need to install it by cab files. A lot of the cabs are included in some of the xda-dev WM6 ROMS. Using the Cingular ROM should also keep you in warranty if anything goes wrong.
If you're a heavy user of the standard phone functions then either the Cingular or t-mobile ROMS should be ok (but remember to make a note of your wireless/data/mms settings or get the cab file to re-install them - maybe here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_provider_cabs ).
With both of the above ROMS you get the official support through the customer service help lines. This will generally be limited to a twat who knows ****-all about phones except that the one superglued to his ear hurts after a 12 hour shift.
If you want good WM6 ROMS with good support (not always immediate but often quicker than queueing for a helpdesk) then try Black or LSVW. Both are great and most annoyances or problems have been found and already resolved.
As for the backup software, all the stuff I need backed up is already synced with outlook. The actual program files I always re-install after a ROM upgrade - I think this is the safest way. A piece of software which is always mentioned when people ask about backups is SPB backup http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/?en. I can't recommend it because I don't use it, however it seems to be highly regarded.

ROFL
You can't be serious.
Have you read a frickin' thing in your 40+ posts?
Load that Dash ROM on anything, right? ****, put it on your Panasonic wireless 5.8 GHz phone while you're at it.
Gimme some of what you're smokin', dude.
You know that the MDA is a Wizard, and your 8525 is a Hermes, right? You will brick your phone if you don't follow the instructions for a Hermes.
As for bloatware, Black 3.0 is the newest and fastest ROM out there.
t-mo mda is for WM5.0?I
i looked at the "do i need this upgrade?" and it says it's WM5.0. Is anyone sure that this is for WM6.0 and not 5.0? The dash upgrade clearly says 6.0.
Oops, I brick my phone. . . Perhaps not. Was it a wizard or hermes? I don't know. Just gimme a link to some WM6 roms and I will flash them iusing Vista. Probably more than one rom at a time.
p.s. Please don't take this seriously. Enjoy!
It was announced

That T-Mo was releasing WM 6.0 for the MDA. Can you get into the OS.NB file and check the build dates?
Otherwise, look up Faria's Wizard ROM and unlock your phone. I used Faria's on my K-Jam before I switched to a TyTN.

Improving M5000

Hey guys, i've just joined up so Hello to everyone.
I've had an orange M5000 for over a year now, and think its an awesome device and as it stands i dont see another handset that is a worthy upgrade, (with the exeption of the HTC Advantage and Slider, whic currently arent offered by orange) so i'm thinking of keeping my M5000, but i'd like to know if there are any ways i can make it any smoother to use and maybe more stable?
I've heard that debranding the handset and only installing certain extended rom files is worthwhile, but i dont really know a lot about it.
Any advice apreciated.

Thanks for that, dont know how i missed it.
some interesting stuff. most of the tweeks i've already done (kinda common sense i guess)
i think for now i'd just like to remove the orange customisation of the device. is there any info on this? i am under the impression that you perform a soft reset before the automatic customisation starts, preventing the customisation taking place. Will the phone work just like this or do i have to install selected .cab's to get it working?

There are two ways;
1. Unlock your extended rom, thera is cab. file for that, then delete the auto run or any files that you dont need.
2. Flash the "Empty extended rom"
