Does Manila 2D really a good UI for Trinity? No! - P3600 ROM Development

Hi guys,
Dont know how about yours, bu my trinity even cannot play video after I have manila 2D in my rom! The system will show me "there are not enough memory to play this video" just after a few second I load it.
My point is, we buy wm phone is for running many programs that we interested in. But with manila 2D, our trinity can no longer complete most of tasks properly. So, is manila 2D really a good UI for us?
Hope cooks can make lite roms, and manila 2D cab. Then people can install it if they really like it. For others, we can still have a fast, reliable device to do everything we like!

Manila uses too much resource as trinity has only 64MB Ram

i agreed. it also makes other oem apps behaved differently and often lead to insufficient memory issue. i think it might works well with other devices.

i also agree with you. With Manila battery consumption is also very high

hi, dude, I found the same problem too.
with manila 2D my trinity will run out of battery in only 2 days, even I dont do anything.

I think your poll says it all. 50:50 response, more or less.
At the end of the day, it all depends what you use your device for.
High application users can not expect their device to run well with Manila2D. That seems to be accepted by all ROM cooks. (It would be like a serious runner expecting to get good use out of a pair of Nikes, Pumas or Y3 Yamamotos - can't be done, even if they are up to 60% off).
Low application users can, however, enjoy Manila2D. With mpenguin's customiser tool, the possibilities for theme generation and customization are endless. That's why it's one of the busiest threads in here!

Pushing the Trinity to it's Limits!!!
Please see my post here for my thoughts on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2842722&postcount=32

It's all about free RAM. Unfortunately we can't convert storage to free RAM.
Deactivate Manilla2D from your Settings>Today and reboot. Free ram increases from 23MB to 28MB. Also depends on the way you have HTC TaskManager configured. Services running in background like largetitlebar, htcvolume, sqm. NETCF3.5 and why didn't MSFT released it yet on wm6.1 and on newest builds.
Battery consumption: how can an app draw battery without using energy consumption hardware such as lcd, sd card and comms? I suggest that indicated values might not be real...

g77 I do agree on your view, but the fact is, trinity will consume more power after we install some software, like S2U or Manila2D...... And I have seen many people report that.

I'm currently running "WWE_20755_Lite_Black_Pandora" found here.
It's not the LIGHTEST rom I've ever run, but it sure does run smoothly and quickly! I'm staying around 50% memory, and I have not found a bug yet. You can add all the apps you like or keep them out, it's up to you. It's using build 20755.
Great work Team CV93+Oggi !!

The one I link to above is Manila Free... Like I say, MUCH quicker running and More Memory. I do miss the Manila Interface, but my phone needs to be more reliable on a day to day basis. I'll still try Manila ROMs as they come out though.

Ok chanvi93,
I will admit, that out of all the Manila M2D ROMs that I tried, "WWE_M2D_BLUE_Pandora" was on my phone the longest. For those who wonder, it can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436424
It was the smoothest, with most things working for my needs. Of course that's just MY opinion, but for me it worked the best.
There are of course MANY Great ROMs out now, and I suggest everyone try them all to find the one that fits their needs. It's really fun to try each, and see if you can find workarounds for each of their little quirks. But so far, I cannot find any quirks in the "WWE_20755_Lite_Black_Pandora" version.
I hope this helped!

HI, I agree with ppl who talk about RAM, because i use tomtom and is dificult to use with manila in my trin.
(sorry my inglish)

I am just currently trying my first manilla rom- Karamba last. I liked it for the first few days as i was on holidays and not using it much- now i am back in the real world manila is just too resource hungry to work well. Cant run core player and mysporttraining at same time in gym, programs keep crashing on me.
I am going to try and disable manilla and try it with just spb mobile shell- i will give that a few days before i go to the lite rom mentioned above- that was my second option.....

Fastest WM6/6.1 ROM currently available (Feb 08)

Having just purchased my 8525 several weeks ago, I have undergone the grueling exercise of reading, downloading, reading, downloading, more reading, more downloading... in my quest for the fastest stable ROM. While I appreciate the all hard work of our ROM cookers, and I recognize that each ROM will meet specific individual needs, I have yet to find a ROM that compares to the speed of K's WM6.0 FINAL Lite.
I was flabbergasted yesterday when I did a comparison. After having read many posts on the speed of the new WM6.1, I decided to give it a whirl and see what I was missing. I looked for a good WM6.1 Lite edition to flash and eventually found one that was reported stable with good reviews. Upon flashing, I noticed that it seemed snappy at first as I tapped through the settings, explorer. I was looking for any delays in response or program load times. I installed Pocket Informant 8 and opened and closed the program several times to visually test the speed (I like to close out of applications and have them reopen with speed when I need them).
I was tempted to leave it on for a while but I decided to flash back to compare and see if I could notice any difference right away... I was shocked with the results. As soon as I flashed back to K's WM6.0 FINAL Lite ROM, I immediately noticed the difference, K's was much faster. Additionally, as soon as I did a hard reset, I noted the program memory sitting at 32.06 (available). I have not officially "benchmarked" these as I don't really know how, but as far as opening applications, moving through settings/programs, and using file explorers, K's takes the cake.
Now I realize that there are many variables to consider (the WM6.1 ROM I used, programs included/ excluded with Lite versions etc.) but as far as lightning fast ROMs, can anyone else support my conclusions? For those of you using K's WM6.0 FINAL Lite ROM please weigh in with your thoughts. If you haven't yet tried it and your looking for speed, please give it a try and let us know what you think. If I am correct, then I can only imagine what a WM6.1 Lite by Kin0Kin could do?
I can only say that what you tested was "out of the box" performance.
I always temper with my OS, removing services & changing reg. definitions.
I feel WM6.1 is faster.
I think the first factor that affects performance is the added apps and as a result how many files sit in the WINDOWS folder(thats why the lite versions work faster...)
The next factor is reg hacks.
I think we should install a version as lite as we can, and as new as you can find then - add your stuff.
I have to agree with the above post. I've been using cooked ROMs since I got my 8525 a year ago...now I'm using Schaps WM 6.1 and to me it is the most stable. I have tried CRC's and Pays but to me, Schaps is the most stable and quickest...I have good battery life and can reasonably use (most of) my programs.
I've had to reflash about ten times trying different programs and different setups but now it's pretty snappy and I'm happy with my set up.
Best I can tell you is try flashing a few different ones and see which one gives you the most mileage.
Hope This Helps,
Jim

Generally 6.1 is faster than 6. Kin0Kin uses a 6mb page pool and a file cache to speed performance, additionally it is an exceptionally well built ROM. This means that after opening a large number of programs those programs will run faster but you will have less memory available to open other programs. In implemenation I have never run into a memory chrunch while using K ROM final. That said if you take a 6.1 rom, set the page pool to 6mb and setup a file cache (I believe K uses 4 MB) it more than likely will be faster than K Rom final (if it is a well cooked ROM). However you may just want to wait for K to release his 6.1 rom when it is out of Beta (still kinda buggy) promises to be blazing fast and to have visual overhaul.
Thanks for taking the time to reply fellas! I should maybe clarify what I was trying to say. I was really wondering if anyone has tried various lite ROMs out there (including K's Final), and if so, how do you think they compared?
This question may be a little too subjective to answer with any certainty but it might point others in the right direction if they are looking for a fast Lite ROM. My intention here is not to put other ROM cookers down by the way; I have a great respect for these individuals who have give so much of their time to this community. In the end though, it seems that each ROM has it's specialties and IMHO, K's WM6 Final Lite ROM specializes in speed (among other things).
With all of my programs loaded: PI8, PB, ILauncher, WBA Lite, Total Comander2.5, on device, and about 6 or so more on the storage card, I sit now with the following:
28MB+/- program memory available
57mb+/- Storage memory available
I have already tested various ROMs and have yet to find one more responsive, not just "out of the box". Are there others who have also experienced this? Kin0Kin may not make a Lite ROM for 6.1 and I'm o.k. with that (given enough support who knows) Anyway, if his WM6 Lite ROM is the fastest currently out there, then think of how fast a 6.1 Lite release by K could be. In any case, I am looking forward to using his 6.1 once he releases it.
So to clarify again, for those of you who have used various lite ROMs (including K's Final), how do/did you find they compared? If there was a tread like this months ago, I might have found K's a little quicker (lol). Thanks again for input!
Well..I am one of the lite Rom fans too...I agree with you that they are faster than the full versions. However, as soon as you install bunch of your apps, it becomes as fast as a regular full rom. The only reason I use lite versions is that I believe that the less apps you cook in a rom the less buggy it is and since I have the standard set of apps that I always intall in a rom which most of the rom cooker don't include in their roms, or include along with other apps that I don't use, which again make a rom buggier.
So, again, lite is fast before you intall your apps, and it is great for customization it terms of installing your own apps.
P.S. I read someone saying that they never had an issue with having not enough memory(RAM). That's exactly what happened to me. I didn't understand the point of having a lot of RAM. But recently, after I started using spb pocket plus, spb mobile shell, htc home all together, I found out that I am running out of RAM, now I need more RAM. Because having all these apps running plus a music player I have around 6-8 of free memory, which I never used to have less than 20MB.
I have to go with Matt's Pandora Naked roms. I've tried a bunch and really like PN7.2. I run a lot of software and his rom has a ton of ram and storage. I included a screenshot with the mem in top right with Pocketplus, pocketweather, S2US, pockettoolman, Qmenu etc.
Anyhow, I like K's roms too, so in the end it's up to you to decide. I'm a Ram freak and like to keep a lot free. So good luck
Agree with noellenchris, I am using Pandora Naked 7b2 WM6 really great, very fast & stable. With lots of Memory & space. My experience with WM6.1 wasn't so good I had to revert back to WM6, I am lovin it..
BTW can anybody please tell me what is page pool. I am not aware what exactly it means.

Matt uses a 6mb page pool in PN7.2. Page pool is like the file cache for ram, if you tend to use many smaller programs at the same time, then 4mb or 6mb is ok. If you use one larger program at a time and close when done then 6-10mb is better. The page pool comes at the expense of available RAM though. But remember that the programs are using this page pool as a cache.
Sort of like the cache on the processors of your computer. It's fast memory readily available for the processor to use. Hope this helps
Chris
i always liked schap's roms, then i tried pay's (that one wasnt bad either), but in the end ShadoW TE 6.1 won overall, even though it doesnt use the latest build, it s really stable and fast - plus i dont have to bother with reinstalling all the dark skins/themes/cabs
Has anyone pointed you to KarHu's posts...? He has done an excellent job benchmarking roms... Currently, I think he is up to 52 different roms... I usually wait for him to post his results before I decide on a different version to use... Sometimes, my illness takes over and I can't wait.. Ok, usually this happens, but it is a good resource nonetheless...

yeah, at 2am, when I just decide to pop in and see a new rom, I gotta flash it then...
I'm getting my 8525 back sometime today with a white screen. If I can unbrick it, I'll most likely continue using vp3G 3.0. It was always fast.
Thanks for the feedback everyone! Debonairone, I never new about that post before, it's very insightful. I would like to see K's newest Lite (Final) tested soon, I tried Shamanix's Grass 2.2 and it was excellent but K's felt a little faster so it would be interesting to see it benched. I had to laugh when I read about your 2AM flash comments. I've had about 3 of these over the past week. This seems to be the only time I find lately, after the kids are asleep and I finish all my other "chores" (lol).
Chris, thanks for pointing out Pandora's Naked ROM. I flashed the latest and it is very impressive. I would say K's Lite is very comparable to this, especially with the available memory "out of the box" (4vs6mb pagepool accounted for). K's out of the box available Program memory was 32.20 with a 4mb PagePool and Pandora's was 30.46 with 6mb PagePool; Storage was also close.
I too love my memory and I think that Pandor's Naked ROMs are almost identical in free memory if not a tad more but I do have to take into account that K's had more programs already loaded namely Office 2007, Calculator and games (I used cabs for PN9). I was also comparing WM6 with a naked WM6.1 BTW I love the fact that Pandora has the 6.1 "naked". On the other side of the coin, K has the larger dialer buttons/skin and in his 6.1 (Full) he uses the 5.0 Camera (still bugged though). I'm hoping to see a fixed Camera 5.0 in his next release. Overall, I think the two ROMs are very comparable I should have compared PN7 but it was to tempting to try 9 and I am getting tired of flashing (must have done 30 over the past few days).
I guess when it comes to speed, there are many ROMs that are close in speed and memory. In the end, it probably comes down to a matter of personal opinion. I like PN9 and I'll be keeping my eye on this although, there is something about the feel of K's latest ROMs that I am in Love with. With WM6.1 out now I guess we'll see some new speed records and be back at this topic in several months Thanks for the link and much insight fellas,
Jazz8

I am looking for a specifc ROM- can you help?

Hey all -
Great forum, and happy to be a member, here's my story, perhaps you can help.
I have just received a TYTN few weeks ago, and I am trying to make the best of it.
So far - I am frustrated, very frustrated!
Why? since I was a Palm OS user, which was so simple and fast, its nothing to compared to windows mobile.
I have tried over the past month several ROMs, per this forum's advice -
1) Black Satin Medium and Light
2) Schap's
3) Faria
4) Shadow 2.1
5) K's
and maybe a few more...the problem is that for each and every one of them I tackled, slowness and major memory problems - ones which forced mt to a soft reset to continue my work.
So what I am looking for - a ROM that will fit my machine's HW, not something too special or packed with apps, something simple that will have the basics, but will be fast and full of memory for programs, over 40 MB after cold boot.
any idea - which one for me?
BTW - up until now, Black Satin Medium was the best option.
I've got a couple of options for you.
#1, SuperDLite by Edhaas is very stable, good with program memory and has lots of storage memory. Has most of the things most people need, and very little fat.
#2, A newer ROM that I have been trying out lately is Shamanix's Ultimate V2 Final. It has a newer base than SuperDLite, and seems to be a very well-polished ROM. However, I have only tried it for about a week and can't speak of how it may fare in the long run.
Give those two a shot. I've a feeling one of them will be to you liking.
Thanks
I am wonderig - why do I nned big storage? if it was up to me I keep most of myh RAM for programs, I am installing all my apps on the storage card anyway...
so isn't what I need is something like 50 MB after cold boot?
haven't seen any ROM that provides this...
i use Pandora Naked 9b1 w/Big Storage - WM6.1

Think of big storage as having an 25 gallon gas tank on your car. Sure, you only drive your car to work and back everyday, so you don't need a very big tank. But who knows? You might want to travel cross country someday.
Anyway, just like there aren't many cars without big gas tanks these days, there aren't many ROMs without big (or super) storage these days.

With a Lite ROM you may just get a little over 30MB RAM after a cold boot. You will never see anything like 40MB and 50MB is purely in your fantasy.
Thanks
Hi All,
Thank you for the responsiveness, I will give those 3 ROMs a shot.
I simply cannot face the fact that from time to time I run iGo and get a message: "iGo needs at least 6MB to run"...
then I look at the memory usage and see that I have about 4 MB left - I am wondering how come? nothing is running, but there's is probably a Mem leak somewhere which I cannot for see.
I tried also to use Close Apps and Hibernate to free RAM, and I will use MemTools as well.
For now, it seems to be a "complicated and slow" OS for this machine, perhaps WM 5 (what originally came with it) is more appropriate for HTC TYTN (Hermes 200) hardware.
Wanna bet $$??????

Oh yeah baby, I'd bet that's a mem leak. Hibernate will help, but you had best hunt that sucker down. Check your Today plugins first.
And I think what ultramag was trying to say is that WM6 runs very smoothly on Hermes hardware. I have flashed many WM6 ROMs and there have been some real stinkers - but none were slower than the stock WM5 that was on my device.
Of course, you aren't the first person I have heard of complain that WM6 is slower than his WM5 stock ROM. You are the second. If a fresh install of your WM5 is running smoother and faster than the ROMs I recommended above then I want to know where I can get that ROM.
I think you'll find IGO is the problem. I had it on wm5 and wm6. Its a memory hog. keep clearing all the destination and trip lists and you shouldn't have a problem. This is why I moved to Tomtom 6. Its so much more stable and I've NEVER had a memory problem again. Hope this helps....
Looking at SuperDLite I see a few versions, which one would you reocmmned for speed:
DopodLite1.0HermesWM6.zip
DopodLiteV1.1-6mbPP-WM6.zip
DopodLiteV1.1WM6.zip
DPLHermesWM6V1.2a4mbPP.zip
DPLHermesWm6V1.2a6mbPP.zip
SuperD-LiteWM6Hermes4mbPP.rar
SuperD-LiteWM6Hermes6mbPP.rar
?
Re: speed
They're all quick. Theoretically the 1.2 and Super-D versions may be slightly faster because the windows directories have been minimized. Some people feel the 4mb page pool roms are slightly quicker than 6mb, but I prefer the 6mb (just "feels" better to me). Check the thread for more details.
Have fun!
I used the 1.2 version, its pretty quick, I am missing the "profiles" of V6.1 and the "today" screen features - is there a plgin to add them in?
In addiotn, touchFlo SL does not work on this ROM - any idea why?
Reply
Not sure what the profiles thing is, or what today screen features you're talking about exactly...
If you post a link to Touchflo SL I'll check it out.
I was going to suggest you post these questions on the Super-D thread, but then I see you're the OP and it's your thread to do what you want with!
Best wishes,
Thanks Ed, I will follow you request, so far the ROM is fast and snappy. I have a feeling that WM 6 are doing better on my TYTN then WM 6.1.
Just to clarify - By "profiles" I mean the feature in the today screen which give you the option to "vibrate" the phone ringer by schedule, i.e - if I have a meeting then the phone will automatically switch to vibrate.

manilla2d vs HTC Home in memory terms

Hello, I was usgin joshoss V8B2 manilla2d and with some apps installed (via device update) I was left with like 10 megs free, so I tried the PDACornerPro.V27 - Build 20759 NonRBSN Josh-Abs (both greeeeeeeeat ROMS!!!!) and installed basically the same apps with the addition of HTC Home to have a nice look and feel (closer to manilla)... and ended up with around 12 megs free.... so I'm not sure which one is eating more resources.... any idea? manilla is still more unstable, right?
diego
Personally I do not feel that manila is for the hermes, until I get my touch3g I am going to run HTC home and spb mobile shell.
I am also quite interested in the study...
Currently using HTC HOme and happy with it, but if Manilla doesn't consume much more resources (In terms of RAM: for the storage we can all use a Micro SD anyway...), I would immediately switch !!!
Anybody can comment more?
I played around with the earlier versions of M2D but found it very unstable. I have yet to try the new roms with it cooked in but am going to soon.
I find HTC home a little bare for my needs with M2D doing what I want and not such a bare screen. I like the fullscreen use and nicer look. I believe it does use more Ram but not a major amount. My issue was always the stability. Hopefully the newer versions prove to be somewhat more stable then their earlier incarnations...
Cheers...
I am a streamline fanatic and like to keep my resources in check. Personally, on the Hermes I think Manila eats up to many resources.
Maybe in the earlier versions there might have been some memory leaks, but I noticed that in the end, I would end up with under 20megs of ram. And if you play with Manila that would go down. HTC Home uses about 4 megs.
Also when I had Manila on, I found that Opera would crash more often, mostly due to running out of memory while it would never do such thing while running HTC Home.
Also I noticed some sluggishness on the Hermes while using Manila, which also sometimes took a little longer --5-10 seconds-- to load, depending on the ROM.
So all in all, once HTC Home is loaded, it is always almost instantaneous, while Manila would again slowdown the phone in mid-operation. And by that I mean switching from the Today Screen to let's say settings or programs.

I believe Josh's version is stable (from what I read)
Hi guys,
I tried like 4-5 Manilla 2D builds. They all had some bugs which weren't such a pain in the ass, but they were annoying. I was using PDA Corner V25 - great rom. Several days ago I installed PDAViet's Manilla2D v20 ROM and I must admit it is great. I didn't have any problems with manilla in terms of performance. The RAM left is 21MB on boot. The overall performance of the ROM is great. All apps work as fast as on the abusalza's rom. However I haven't tested the YouTube app, since I don't use it. The only problem is the lower in call volume compared to abusalza's rom. And if you use video call, I'm not sure if it's included.
I used multiple ROMs with Manilla 2D .. im now flashing backa again to a ROM without Manilla because i had too many problems with it.. i'm used to listen a lot of music... but with manilla on my Hermie the battery is empty so fast that sometimes i don't even have the chance to lsiten to the music ( i recharge it every night.. and i usually listen to music at about 15:00 pm.. by then it's already on low battery =s
on the other hand there are some stupid buggs in it.. like youtube doesnt work... sometimes the usb-connection doesnt work.. or what also bothers me is the volume control that is removed from audiomanager... there are also some other small problems which bother me but i'm not going to spend any more time on it right now
sorry for my bad english =)
ps. if somebody finds a tool for me to change the music player in manilla ( like from audiomanager to windows mediaplayer) pm me pls..
yes, in my case, I was using Josh's version and it was very stable and had I think all functionality working...the problem was after installing some apps, and after runining for a while opening and closing things I get an error of out of memory...
is there a way to make all "Device Update" to install on storage card?
will some more space on main memory help the RAM issue?
I've tried it out a bit. I'm using update 19 from here, and the Manilla 2D Customiser. On CRC's 13.0 naked non-big storage rom, I used UC to put on all the cab files in the right order, except for the Opera and Youtube apps. Using the customiser, I have removed the internet, mapping and settings tabs, and it runs pretty smoothly. Usually between 18-20MB RAM free. This does tend to go down a bit with usage, but I tend to soft-reset daily, and its not really a problem.
been using pdaviet's V20 and it is really stable and fast. youtube does work and the few times i used it, manilla2d kept running in the background without affecting overall performance which doesn't happen when i run opera and big boss dumps manilla2d to get more ram. it's still one of the best roms i've come across so far and hoping to stick to it - even having to put up with an annoying bug on calendar app.
i might be wrong about this but i found the whole thing a lot faster when i decided to be honest with myself and disable some tabs from manilla2d, tabs that would make it look good and get friends wowing but not really worth keeping just for the sake of showing off. i've disabled weather, music and pictures. pictures cause if anyone starts fiddling with my phone and see my pics THAT would be something to be embarrassed about, for music i have my zune and for the weather, i can just look outside the window.

I had the exact same deal running when I used M2D lol. But I've since ditched the whole 2D thing. I'm running PDACorner V27 and man it is faaast AND stable. M2D would crash way too often for my taste. In reality it was designed for the Kaiser/Tilt. Which is why not too many people on those forums have as many issues with it as we do. I remember I had the full 2D setup and I was running Opera and my Program mem usage was on 98% (about 2-3 MBs free). That's why I've decided to wait for the Fuze if I really want Manila.
When I try to update library from storage card it will start to adding files then stop. Any suggestions. It worked fine with another rom I was using.

Which UI for Hermes

So, had my Hermes for several years now and tried many ROMs and UIs in that time.
Now we seem to have a two main choices for UI: Manila or Titanium.
I've found both of these UI's take up a lot of resources and they're buggy, especially the new fancy versions of Titanium and I'm having to soft-reset frequently which I find frustrating.
In order to get a cast iron, fast phone, I'm even considering flashing a modern ultralite ROM and putting HTC Home 2 on there.
Any other suggestions either as to:
1. A UI thats easy to install and doesn't take up masses of RAM
2. A ROM with a modern, none buggy version of Titanium/Manila which still have about 25M RAM?
i was using hermes for several months, bricked it and after several months i unbricked it. it is very usefull phone for me. but youre right. if i have to reset every here and there, its not a point.
recently i tested roms from lets say first 10 posts in this forum. tonight im going to install darkvisions 5.15 and add a few things that i miss. titanium launcher, i.e.
i hope that will satisfy me until i learn how to cook or untill somebody makes something better
No matter what the starter RAM is, open up the menu's and phone canvas and you're probably down by nearly 4M already.
Outlook and contacts seem pretty good, only about 1M for both.
Then Nimbuzz is a whopping 6M which is still better than running messenger and skype together.
Add on IE and its another 1.3 (not sure what opera is as my skills can't switch to mem usage without killing Opera )
So, for the basics its about 12-13M from the baseline
I've found TAI's version 14/15 pretty good so far around 23M free (with activesync running). Means, with my essential apps running, I'm around 10-11M free. Means I can still run Google maps, word etc ok.
It would be nice to have beautiful Manila or fancy Titanium (bug free) and about 20-23M free, just not found it yet. Any suggestions?
slowndes - I'm in the same place as you:
I'd got frustrated with my WM5 Hermes (SPV M3100) as Home2Pro and lovely community applets were rendering it slow, unstable and with poor battery life.
I tried several OEM ROMs and with/without custom ROMs on top; and then running Home2Pro. Certainly I get better performance with OEM ROM only.
But I now want PointSuite v2... And I think the "stripped" AT&T OEM ROM - used by many chefs - is still too "heavyweight" for my requirements. I'm still looking for a very light WM6.1 OEM.
And, after hours of hunting through these hallowed pages, I'm still looking.
Any ideas from anyone out there?
Since my last post, I'm downloading a couple of potential WM6.1 bare ROMs:
Black Satin - been around for a while now, but consistently good feedback;
CRC_r13.4_Naked_BigStorage - latest incarnation and offers a lot of space.
I'll road-test these over the coming few days, with Home2Pro and PointSense suite v2 on 'em; and I'll post my findings into this thread.
Oooo - installed CRC WM6.1 as per above; which, in its raw state, is a slick and sexy ROM.
And then I installed Home2Pro on top; plus my usual WiFi modem / Opera Mobile 9.7 / DinarSoft RAM optimisation applications.
(I've left off PointSense v2 Suite until 2.0.1.1 comes out - 2.0.0.4 has a few integrity issues it seems).
But I'm getting the lightning-fast speed and stability I've been looking for.
I am one very happy bunny. I recommend this. A lot.
I used to use whatever 6.1 ROM and install SBP mobile shell. Its pretty bulletproof, but not really that integrated into the phone, just a pretty surface.
I used Josh's SpringTime build pretty much for the entire summer, until I dropped my phone and the RED / GREEN buttons stopped working all the time. VERY WEIRD, but I decided to flash to FCW's new rom.
Its called Red Mist and its Build 23004.5.3.0 (according to the About screen). You can get it here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509194
I also installed PdG TouchFLO 2D dialer. It REALLY helps when you have big fingers. I have mis-dialed since. You can get it here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429179
I flashed the OEM Stripped rom first. I think it makes a difference.
My phone has not worked this well in a LONG time.
If you looking for WM 6.1 for me the most stable is faria.r32
now im with dark vision 5.0 the plathform is 6.5, but for 2 days i cant tell you nothing special about it just nice look, many apps

I'm in the same position as the first Poster. Now I trying all the Complete-Roms, then the Light ROMs with SPB Mobile Shell, PointUI, Manilla, Homescreen++, Wisbar Adcance, ..., and then hopefully have another ROM for the next Years, as Schaps ROMs was for me in the past.
Trial and Error....
Is there a thread/wiki with a comparative of free RAM from various ROMs? The xda-wiki one is quite outdated. How about all of us post the free RAM after a clean install + customizations + reset?
I'll start off first:
CRC_r13.4-naked / 5.2.20270 / WM6.1 - 26.86 MB

Homescreen++ more Skins more Manilla Theme more more / Battery Status
ThrottleLauncher

Fastest Manila/TF3D/Sense 2.5 ROMS

Does anything think they have the fastest Manila 2.5 ROM?
I'm trying to find one, that has fluent animations, quick response/no lag, but does not eat lots of RAM, 65% max.
Is this possible?
I'd prefer WinMo 6.5, but I've read (and personally found out) that WinMo 6.1 uses less RAM.
All the ROM's I've used use around 78-90% ram, which means I can't run any apps!
My Current ROm seems pretty good(Sun Y), but when some parts are a little laggy and stil uses quite a bit of RAM.
Think this will help alot of people if chefs try to work on a ROM like this. I know it's hard because looking for a Manila ROM is looking for a RAM eating ROM too but I'm sure it's possible, with lots of tweaking..
Oh and don't know if you've noticed on your diamonds, how annoying it is when you slide through contacts, sms, email inbox etc, that it's 'cutty' and laggy ,rather than the iphone style where its smooth and good feedback.
trying to find this in the ROM too.

the problem is, the iPhone OS was written FOR the iPhone. Eventuall iPhoneOS7 or whatever will come out and will require hardware far better than the iphone...it will never be ported becuase apple dont like that sort of thing.
Manilla 2.5 was NEVER supposed to run on the diamond...it just hasnt got the hardware to do it properly.
Manilla 2.1 works fine, no problems, fast as you like...this was ALSO never supposed to run on the diamond, but it's been ported successfully becuase the phones is WAS supposed to run on arent far off the diamond hardware wise.
2.5 doesnt
yet
also this may sound stupid but many ppl actually doesnt know how to use slider correctly...
we dont have that iphone glass screens we have resistive screens actually made for stylus. if u want to move it use little bit of nail and u see how smooth it scrolls
I have build a WM6.5 ROM with HTC Sense everything working 100%, Manila is very fast and and ROM is stable. You get 36mb free RAM on startup, you will never run out of RAM again! (with GPS software you may run out of RAM)
I will be releasing my ROM soon... You can follow the progress of the ROM on Twitter. (see my sig)

No. As simple as that.
Manila 2.5 consumes alot - because it can do alot - as soon as scrolling through a couple of pages, and it will increase to at least 75% on WM6.1 no matter how light it is. If you want Manila, just cope with that. If you can't, forget about Manila.
And please stop comparing WM devices with that iphone crap. That's two different worlds. That iphone thing has 10% of the features of a WM device, and it sucks as a cell phone (which it is also supposed to be - not just an mp3 player).

36mb free means 69% on startup. That's quite a few mb more than Kisja's 6.1 ROM with Sense 2.5, so I hope you'll be able to tune that down a bit And I recommend you to free up way more storage. 50mb on main storage is not much!
I'd love to test your ROM when it's out, I hope you'll get it all to come out nice! Keep up the work!

I'm not comparing how good the iphone is - if you ask me you'll find I'm rather against the iPhone and its over rated popularity. The only thing that I apreciate from the iphone is it's 3.5mm jack that so many phones fail to have, as well as smooth scrolling.
Never said the iphone was better than WM.

Two days of reading and no choice for my first CustomROM.
I have the Diamond from more than a year with the last HTC Rom and I like it very much... really fast (lightning) and responsive. The only problem is that I want to try something new, haven't decided yet 2.5 or 2.1 and 6.1 or 6.5 I guess I have to give it a try. So can you give me a point to start from, a Rom that you liked... for now I'm thinking of donsalari's roms but more reading to come.
Anyway I totally agree with longice's comment about the iPhone bullsh*ts
Benkos is allright...
But like I said It's hard to find one which will give you more RAM and have manila 2.5/wm6.5.
And SUN Y is good too.
I've found SUN Y's to be the one with most response as well as easthetics..
THe most fluent ROM i've used is NRG's, except so much RAM Is used you can't even use the camera and some points

I've had great experinces with the Gen.Y ROM's, high recommended!
I'm currently tryin the SUN Y 6.1 rom with sense, and after a bit it can get very ram hungry, but that's mainly sense. I tried the 6.5 with sense and that was just rubbish, around 90% RAM after like 10 mins... Now i'm waiting on the RC2 of the SUN rom
This thread is gonna create flame.
Mod, please close it.
the fastest rom i ever used is 2.11 offical
but love cook rom and now 6.1 + TF3D 2.5
that my choose.
Deep Shining
It's a pity there are no more deepshining roms as they were the best, fast repsonsive and lots of memory to run apps, i have tried almost all the roms available and everytime I come back to deep shining 8.2.
Got to download the kitchen he release and have a go at updating to build 21876 and Sense UI 2.5
I'll be waiting ....

I'm waiting for U. I also used the Deepshining 8.2 and until now no other rom handled the speed and free ram better than this one.
sense 2.5 isn't a perfect port to diamond or diamond dose not have the necesary resrources to driveit right.I haven't seen one rom on the forum that has smooth sense 2.5 and when i say smooth i say like manila 1.X
If you want a fast and stable WinMo6.6 with Sense 2.1, find the DonSalari's Rom.
I've been looking and sometime even cooking some roms for a few years and this ROM was my choice.
WM6.1 is much faster and stable than 6.5. I also always wanted to stick with new 6.5.x builds, but then tried Gen.Y wm6.1. It's way faster and smoother, especially sense. Also ram usage is 10-20 percent lower.
Also, sense 2.1 seems to be way smoother than sense 2.5, especially seen right after soft reset, when it has to fully load tabs yet, so scrolling through tabs in 2.5 is not smooth
I have also tried allmost all of the roms on this site. Now i'm using the Shaks. P v4.30 ROM with wm6.1. It's a clean rom without manila and with all the originall HTC stuff + some additional applications. Now I'm using this Rom with spb ms 3.5.2.
The best wm6.5 i have tried is also the Don Salaris rom but it has some bugs and i have to soft-reset my device quite offten.
br
The problema its not the RAM coz sense 2.5 lags badly on Blackstone with more ram then the diamond so what is the problem? the CPU could be? the port of sense 2.5 is bad?
