@all,
been using p3300 for ages now and never noticed it before - there is a humming sound coming from the lcd, increases slightly when touched. (admittedly, your ear has to be straight in front of the lcd )
now, is that normal?
is that due to the rom used, or
is that due due to a defect resulting from ...?
or am i just getting oversensitive in my old days?
greetz
mines been doing that for ages now, and until you mentioned it again id grown completely used to it, now its all i hear.....cheers!
just joking mate, mine increases when i underclock it so perhaps is something to do with that as well, or some power regulation
Do you have your PDA overclocked?
That can be a "secondary" efect of it...
Cheers

I have noticed that my orbit is giving off a very high pitched noise, which is almost undetectable, does everyones buzz, squeal, it is hard to explain but is an electrical noise of some sort which is only present when the screen is on?
Any suggestions, or is this a "feature"
Hi StewD,
I get a kind of ticking from my speaker and as you say maybe a 10khz sine from my screen.
I believe that this is simply an electrical effect common to all such lcds but I can only chop wood so maybe someone with a greater range of abilities can tell me I am right.
I know what you mean, I have an Archos and many other "toys" with screens, PSP, NDS, Car DVD player that have an LCD screens which are silent?
while my o2 xda is ok, a friend of mine had a similar problem (the sound would only appear when the screen is on), got it changed by o2, new one is dead silent.
Do you have any more details, that is sounding the same as mine!....Can you get him to contact me....please.
High piched noise on Orbit
If your describing a high piched sound worse when you hold the styus on nthe screen I have the same. Just got my old XDA IIi out of its dust sheet and it has the same but higher!!
That's it exactly
Is everyone affected by this "feature"
Please reply with yes or no below.
I have an Orbit, and don't have any high pitch sound.
Tried with and without stylus.....silent.
Thanks Patrick, that's great, I'm hoping your in the majority to be honest as the sound when I'm on a call is almost unbearable, what I'm hoping is that I will get a couple of dozen or so silent orbits, from other forum members which I can then go to O2 with and get it replaced....
I believe it is a characteristic of the screens. Is it possible that some peoples high frequency hearing is not quite as sensitive as that of others?

I know what you mean, but when I'm on a call it is intolerable, well almost. But like all these things unless you get 2 or 3 together at the same time and try them I'll never know?
Pity this forum doesn't require location when registering, not many people have updated their profile with where they are?.
Well that question received a lot of interest?! Is there anyone out there??
Hi StewD,
I am out here, off work while mrs. is in Austria.
Just a thought, but do you have very large pointy ears?
I usually just press the power button when I offer the phone to my ear, screen off.
LOL no standard human ears I'm afraid.
That is what I'm doing at the mo. but if there are silent orbits does that mean there is something wrong with mine??
I just thought there would have been a lot more in the way of replies to this thread...?
Thanks for your reply
I had the same "feature" in my Orbit. It was fixed by O2 Germany. So far (two days after coming back from service) my device is silent.
Cool, that's the sort of thing I wanted to hear, did they explain what was done, New screen, new firmware, or is it a new handset?
I can hear a high pitched whine from the LCD when I hold my phone to my ear, but it doesn't bother me too badly. I suspect it may be too high pitched for some people to hear (like the noise some TVs make or some dodgy fluorescent lights make).
However, thanks for the tip about hitting the 'off' button once the call is in progress!

It took me about 18 months to figure that out!
Well...contacted O2 today, and after the usual 15 minute wait for an operator person, explained the problem and she agreed that the handset was faulty and I should send it back for replacement.
Now I'm going to be without "My Precious" for at least 3-5 working days........Arghh.. I was just getting so attached to it as well....?
I will post more news when my replacement arrives........thanks for your replies.......
Hi guys! any idea what this is?? this morning my faithful hermes started making a high pitched noise, loud enuff to hear only when i put it to my ear. if i turn sound down or off it still emits, yet if i turn screen off it stops? what is this?? Can it be fixed? is this the excuse ive been looking for to upgrade?
I would also like to know the answe rto this, Is it normal? The same thing happens to me, I bought my hermes used and thought it was normal because of the LCD screen but sounds like I may be wrong.
This is wierd....there is one more thread on this one...

I have had lots of similar electronics like palm pilots and such that have done it so I just thought it was normal. I just hope when I get my WM7 phone next year it has an OLED screen so I dont have to worry about it.
This is not normal. I went through 3 of the m3100 devices under warranty with Orange before getting one that did not do this. Phones would be fine for a few weeks and then would randomly start this. Just so annoying.
Hello,
I have a problem with the S9. While listening to music every couple minutes or so, it's like it skips for a second or two.
Also it sometimes will turn itself off.
Anyone experienced any of the two ?
Known problem. Even says so on the box. (Says you should keep it above your waist otherwise it will cut out).
That's bs. it is above my waste...

I had the same - with all 3 of the S9s that I had. Sound quality was great, but it was hyper sensitive to phone location.
And all 3 of them failed with exactly the same problem. They're supposed to be suitable for active people - I used mine whilst running on the treadmill down at the gym. Bit of perspiration in them and then went bzzzzt, stop. Rubbish.
The Jabras that I'm now using don't look anywhere near as good, and don't sound quite as good, but the battery lasts for twice as long, and they don't die when I get a bit sweaty (ewwwww!)
hmmm that really strange as i constantly use my S9 with both my wizard and athena and have never noticed this problem even though my phones are usually lefin my trouser pockets below my waist
True, but it dies after a bit of sweat hits it...and you may find some work better with other phones. IMHO I suggest wait for it to become in-ear and better water protection.
I found the range to be dependent on the bitrate of A2DP
When i 1st got my S9 i could listen from 2 rooms apart but the sound was a bit low quality, ofcourse i value quality and i cnaged it and now the phone has to be really close to me, but its not a prob since i only use it omw to school n back.
Check Here
(Look around if you can find different values working )
I have a similar problem with my S9, except it constantly stutters, playing less than a second at a time. It's completely unuseable.
I've tried changing the bitpool settings, but it didn't make a difference, playback still unuseable. Does anyone know what else it may be? Or if there are any hacks or apps, or any way in which this can be resolved? It used to work fine before I upgraded from WM5 to 6.1
Moto S9 -> SPV M700 (trinity) -> WM6.1
S9
I got my first S9 today by mail, and I connected it so it would charge, and first the light was red and then after about two hours turned blue so I tought it was fully charged, but when I disconnected it the light was just stucked there and I'm unable to turn it off or on, does anyone have any idea why this might be?
Did you order off of ebay jcostantini? If you did you might have a fake or defective there.
Kraize
Yes - Have an S9. It worked fine on my Trinity (SPV M700) before I flashed the roms and upgraded to 6.1
Now it doesn't want to work. Every half second it skips for a 10th of a second, this happens no matter how I change the bitpool sizes etc etc.
Does anyone... ANYONE... have an idea.
I have tried it on a couple of different radio ROM's too...
Cheers!
could be just the ROM, i would suggest just waiting for a good final version to come out for your 6.1 loaded phone... if its already loaded, then i suggest you post it in your specific phone problem to troubleshoot
i have s9 + HTC juno/phoebus with the clean dev 6.1 running and they run awesome, phone placement is no issues and i only have some skip issues every few minutes which i dont' mind... sound clarity and quality is excellent
I have a small problem with my BA. Somehow it started making some strange high frequency (buzzing) noise. Before last few days it was working very good with each ROM I installed. First I thouhgt that the source of mentioned noise is the speaker, but I was wrong. Source is in the bottom of device, somewhere beneath the screen, just above the mail button. Now, even when it just lies down on the table, screen flashes, and noise starts and some how turns off after 30, 40 seconds all by itself. Also, my battery life is reduced from two days to less than 1 day as a result of this issue. I dont know what shuld I do? Can anyone help me?
Specs please
How old is the device ?
Are there dark (or darker) spots at the edge(s) of the screen ?
Have you run the device at maximum lighting level ? - How long until the Backlight goes to powersave ? ... etc.
I assume - lacking further information - that the lighting is failing.
To my knowledge, there's a CCFL in the LCD I... that'll age over time and then show spots and flickering.
If you _can_ swap the CCFL you'll probable save your inverter ... CCFLs are relatively cheap elements (around USD 20 for 40cm which fits a 18.4" HD TFT Screen), though I have no idea how much a CCFL for the 9090 will amount to.
cf. to e.g. alibaba.com search for qtek 9090 lcd
eBay might help, too.
Good luck...

Is it possible to 'overclock' the vibrate. Its worse than my galaxy s and thats part of the reason why i upgraded...
Are you willing to take the chance? Overclocking the vibration could result in major hardware issue! I would high NOT recommend ( if it is possible). Just keep it closer to your leg ( assuming you put it in your pocket) and you should be fine.
Mist of the custom kernels allow a vibrator speed change.
However, most users noticed that the vibration seemed LESS intense at both lower/higher values...
The default values seem to be tuned to the weight of the vibrating head.
Dude there are almost no good reasons to enhance the vibrator on a phone.
But why would u want to enhance the vibrator beyond Max???
