High Pitched Sound coming from Screen? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hi guys! any idea what this is?? this morning my faithful hermes started making a high pitched noise, loud enuff to hear only when i put it to my ear. if i turn sound down or off it still emits, yet if i turn screen off it stops? what is this?? Can it be fixed? is this the excuse ive been looking for to upgrade?

I would also like to know the answe rto this, Is it normal? The same thing happens to me, I bought my hermes used and thought it was normal because of the LCD screen but sounds like I may be wrong.

This is wierd....there is one more thread on this one...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357107

I have had lots of similar electronics like palm pilots and such that have done it so I just thought it was normal. I just hope when I get my WM7 phone next year it has an OLED screen so I dont have to worry about it.

This is not normal. I went through 3 of the m3100 devices under warranty with Orange before getting one that did not do this. Phones would be fine for a few weeks and then would randomly start this. Just so annoying.

Updated (09/05) POLLING - High Pitch Noise O2 Orbit

I have noticed that my orbit is giving off a very high pitched noise, which is almost undetectable, does everyones buzz, squeal, it is hard to explain but is an electrical noise of some sort which is only present when the screen is on?
Any suggestions, or is this a "feature"
Hi StewD,
I get a kind of ticking from my speaker and as you say maybe a 10khz sine from my screen.
I believe that this is simply an electrical effect common to all such lcds but I can only chop wood so maybe someone with a greater range of abilities can tell me I am right.
I know what you mean, I have an Archos and many other "toys" with screens, PSP, NDS, Car DVD player that have an LCD screens which are silent?
while my o2 xda is ok, a friend of mine had a similar problem (the sound would only appear when the screen is on), got it changed by o2, new one is dead silent.
Do you have any more details, that is sounding the same as mine!....Can you get him to contact me....please.
High piched noise on Orbit
If your describing a high piched sound worse when you hold the styus on nthe screen I have the same. Just got my old XDA IIi out of its dust sheet and it has the same but higher!!
That's it exactly
Is everyone affected by this "feature"
Please reply with yes or no below.
I have an Orbit, and don't have any high pitch sound.
Tried with and without stylus.....silent.
Thanks Patrick, that's great, I'm hoping your in the majority to be honest as the sound when I'm on a call is almost unbearable, what I'm hoping is that I will get a couple of dozen or so silent orbits, from other forum members which I can then go to O2 with and get it replaced....
I believe it is a characteristic of the screens. Is it possible that some peoples high frequency hearing is not quite as sensitive as that of others?

I know what you mean, but when I'm on a call it is intolerable, well almost. But like all these things unless you get 2 or 3 together at the same time and try them I'll never know?
Pity this forum doesn't require location when registering, not many people have updated their profile with where they are?.
Well that question received a lot of interest?! Is there anyone out there??
Hi StewD,
I am out here, off work while mrs. is in Austria.
Just a thought, but do you have very large pointy ears?
I usually just press the power button when I offer the phone to my ear, screen off.
LOL no standard human ears I'm afraid.
That is what I'm doing at the mo. but if there are silent orbits does that mean there is something wrong with mine??
I just thought there would have been a lot more in the way of replies to this thread...?
Thanks for your reply
I had the same "feature" in my Orbit. It was fixed by O2 Germany. So far (two days after coming back from service) my device is silent.
Cool, that's the sort of thing I wanted to hear, did they explain what was done, New screen, new firmware, or is it a new handset?
I can hear a high pitched whine from the LCD when I hold my phone to my ear, but it doesn't bother me too badly. I suspect it may be too high pitched for some people to hear (like the noise some TVs make or some dodgy fluorescent lights make).
However, thanks for the tip about hitting the 'off' button once the call is in progress!
[QUOTEHowever, thanks for the tip about hitting the 'off' button once the call is in progress!
[/QUOTE]
It took me about 18 months to figure that out!
Well...contacted O2 today, and after the usual 15 minute wait for an operator person, explained the problem and she agreed that the handset was faulty and I should send it back for replacement.
Now I'm going to be without "My Precious" for at least 3-5 working days........Arghh.. I was just getting so attached to it as well....?
I will post more news when my replacement arrives........thanks for your replies.......

Weird NOISE/crackling during call - DESIRE HD - HELPPP

Hello , i recently bought the Desire HD, and havent been experiencing any problems with it except of one quite annoying.
When im in a call, either outgoing or incoming, the speaker makes a weird crackling noise.
This happens always, and happens on both the phones speaker, and loud speaker (depending on which is selected during call), and headphones(when connected). Ive searched the forum, and some people have been experiencing a sort of problem, but not on the same device.
any help is very much appreciated thank you
I can verify that I'm experiencing the same with my Desire HD.
We discussed this issue already in the german "Android-Hilfe"-Forum. This buzzing, crackling noise seems to affect a small number of desire HD's. Mine was affected too. All the devices have been changed on warranty with no costs for the customer in germany. No matter from which provider they were bought.
Edit: BTW: Wrong Forum, I think. Could an Admin move this thread please?
Thanks for the quick replies guys, appreciate it
Hi All,
My Desire HD has started doing this today too! Really gutted. What has HTC UK support been like this on it? Replacement or repair, and how quick? I dont want to be without a phone long! Is this a widely recognised problem, apart from this thread I dont see much on it. Im wondering if the buzz comes from a loose LED flash cover vibrating caused by the speaker?
Thanks very much
I have the same and I thought it is the proximity sensor opening and closing.
Are you guys sending it back for replacement or are you going to live with it?
i have the same problem it sounds like the earpice is short circuiting for 1/10 second
i dont know is it a general problem or only limitted to our handsets
and if we update the radio version is it going to disappear or not
any help is appreciated

I sent 2 support cases to HTC at the same time. The one was for tjis issue and the other for something else. The other one was answered next day but for that one, not a word. Does this tell you something?
didnt understand you sir.

I say that: I contacted HTC support in regards to this but haven't received a reply. But, I have received replys for other cases. And this doesn't sound good.
i have the same issue
Issue with noise
I recently replaced my DHD due to a similar issue. I found if my hand palm was making contact at all with the SIM.SD Card cover, ie the antenna I would get an extremely high pitch feedback sound. Also if phone was on charge the crackle sound was audible.
Orange were great and replaced the original handset straight away at no cost but the replacement also appears to have the same issue. For the moment I'm considering contacting HTC direct but i'm not sure as otherwise I love the phone, and truly believe it is the best on the market.
I think the issue might be resolved if i get a outer protective cover so I'm going to try that first, and not use the device while on charge.
Would be good to know if others have had these experiences.

Whatever you decide, contact HTC so that they know and work on the problem. As I said, I contacted them but never received a reply which means that they are aware and have no solution.

That must be a different issue. I hear that noise via BT headset when I don't even touch the phone. I believe it's due to the sound frequency change during a call and the low quality speaker cannot handle. It's like using a high wattage amplifier on a low quality speaker and expect to hear deep bass sound. I guess you all know the result of such sound.
I'm also experiencing this problem. Sent the phone in and got it back but the problem is still there. They changed the motherboard and the loudspeaker but that obviously didn't fix the problem. So now I probably have to send it back again.
i just hope this problem can be fixed with software..
hi all,
in my case occasionally during call's even whit sound volume low a ear the person talking with " extremely high pitch feedback sound".
It's a very good phone but that problem is starting to annoying me.
i allready send a email to htc portugal and their response was to send the equipment to the repair center
in you opion what should i do? send to repair?
Thanks
Have you tried enabling the SRS improvement? It can be done in the music player. It made the crackling sound during calls in my device disappear...

I will try this and post back...
What I'm experiencing, when I'm on hold with my service provider (Vodafone AU) I can hear the normal on hold music then at random intervals just for a half a second or so the music cuts and there's an annoying crackle noise. Sometimes there is no noise for a while then there can all of a sudden there can that crackle noise every few seconds. Like another person has said for me if I change to loudspeaker it still does the crackle noises and turning the volume down doesn't help. I've tried taking my hand off the phone but it still happens. I have noticed a few times the reception bars icon, drop a bar or gain a bar when this noise happens so maybe there's a link?!? By the way I'm running LeeDroid 1.4.1 (wich is based on HTC's 1.72.405.3 ROM). Also I'm running the Jan 17th Radio version: 12.39.60.19U_26.06.04.06_M.
Right. This could well sound daft but try it anyway! Someone on another forum said it worked for him (her?) and it worked for me with a Nokia E71. The speaker was 'crackling' so I did the usual googling. The answer was, for me, to suck really hard on the speaker a couple of times. Basically the diaphragm gets put out of place and the 'sucking' gets it back.
Try it and see! Though it won't fix the 'feedback-type' noises I'd guess but I find most of those are specific to a particular call. Either call back, or get them to call you back, and all is well.

[Q] HTC Desire Z: No sound from speaker, media/ringtones/notifications

Just yesterday night I found out that I can't get any sound from my phone. Not even notifications sound work, or those ticky sounds what are heard when you turn ringtone volume up or down to hear the level. I have no idea how they are missing now... I dropped my HTC Desire Z in the water weeks ago and some say there can occur problems a long time after water damage, is this true?
I don't remember dropping my phone lately, but I may have dropped it yesterday by accident, but it was not a big drop. There could be a slight possibility tha the speaker died?
When I plug my earphones in, I get sound normally. This indicates to speaker damage indeed. What do you think? Does warranty cover this? I have no idea what causes this. Task killer maybe?
Sorry for the double post, but just bumping and reporting about this issue. Just tested calling from other phone, and the speaker mode won't work. I hear voice normally from internal speaker. I use Automatic Task Killer and there was "Music" -app in kill list, but it adding it to the white list did not affect in anything... besides plus music nothing else with sound works, without plugging in the headphones of course.
I really don't use ringtones that much, but I would like to show some youtube videos to friend with sound sometimes, or speak with speaker on if my hands are not available... this really sucks. ANY thoughts? What should I do?
The unexpected happened!
Haha, this is unbelievable! My 2 year old daughter got my phone for some reason and as soon as I noticed of course I told her "no! give it back" and as soon as she noticed I noticed she's having the phone, she threw it to the wall! (she was standing on the bed and the phone fell down quite a long way). The back cover fell off and I thought the phone is broken for good... since I had already dropped it to the water couple of months ago as you may know.
Well, shouted at my daughter for what she did. Then picked up the phone and put back the back cover. And guess what? The sounds work! Nothing wrong with them, or the phone! Tested out and everything works like charm! Haha I'm laughing my ass of, miracles sure happen!
If YOU have sound problems, don't start to bash your phone please
can u gimme the winning lottery numbers
pimped out g2
Today I went to swimming and dropped while changing to swimwear dropped my pants down while my phone was in the pocket. At home I noticed the sounds are not working again! So I recalled what happened and dropped my pants again in the same way, and the sounds were back again..
So I guess my phone can't stand any more knocks or drop downs... so I try to be really careful in the future. Thank god there is no touch-problems like in bad earbuds when the wire go bad and the sound comes only from the other one, like that I should always keep the phone in right position sounds to work... that would be nightmare.
Just reporting if you out there possibly have similar problems. It can all be symptomps from dislocated speaker like in my case.
Sound is back ...I'm a hard head
I too had lost sound after dropping ...After reading the warning about no trying to bang it back .............well what can I say , I put on the media with music and tapped it on the counter , NO Luck . Being hard headed I then started to slap it into the palm of my hand with a good snap ...Presto magic sound is back . Do not try this at home kids .

Ear Piece Distortion/Vibration

Hey guys...
So I noticed since day one of getting my kick ass phone that if I had the volume say 75% or higher on the ear piece that I would get what sounded like distortion. I chocked this up to the speaker not being able to handle the volume, and quite frankly neither could I - at least for the people who like to yell into their phone... Anyway, I found today that it seemed to be more pronounced, even at what I would call moderate volume. After messing around a bit - I am fairly convinced that the speaker in the phone is loose! If I tap on the back of the phone right on the camera, I can hear whats sounds and faintly feels like a vibration. So naturally if the speaker is loose and some point it would start to vibrate, which in a sense could sound like distortion.
So... with that said - anyone else notice this with theirs? Normal? I'm thinking not but thought I would ask. If in fact it needs repair, how has one gone about getting theirs fixed? I know it is under warranty since it is maybe 30 days old bought from the Play Store. Will they send a new unit or does it go in for service and I have to find some clunker to use in the mean time?
Thanks - you guys are a great bunch to be a part of
... and gals
Update--
In case this helps someone in the future...
I was 2 days past Google's 14 day return policy
So after 18 days! The problem they found was that my phone would not take a charge? WHAT?
So the status said that they were sending me a replacement. I was concerned that they might send someone's refurbished phone and being that mine was only 16 days old - I would hope that it would be new. So... I called CS and asked if the phone they were send was a refurb or new and he assured me that is was new. I hope.
So, one last question...
Anyone that has gotten a replacement phone lets say within 30days of buying it new... was it a new phone or did they in fact send a refurb?

Water drop sound, normal?

Hi guys! I recently bought my Oneplus 5t. To make sure everything is okay I had a question.
My Oneplus 5t is working very well, I really like it a lot. I only discovered one thing. When using vibration when the speaker is on you hear besides from the normal vibration sound another very little sound. Now this sound is not that bad, and you might not even hear it. But i was wondering if this is a normal sound.
Fot instance when you unlock the phone. When unlocking you hear a little unlock sound. After this sound the speaker will be on for around 1 or 2 seconds. You'll hear almost nothing, but when placing your ear against the speaker you hear a little static sound. This is normal and on ervery phone, and goes away after a couple of seconds. This is because for your speaker to work you''l need some eletricity going trough it. Again, you almost don't hear this and it's very normal.
When this sound is on and you press for instance the home bottom. The phone will vibrate, if you do this a couple of times fast after unlocking, when the speaker is still on, you''ll hear that little sound I was talking about before. After a couple of seconds, when the speaker is compelety turned off, you don't hear the sound anymore when virbating.
So my conclusion is that it's probably the phone vibrating when the speaker is on, and this (due to how the phone is made) makes a little rosonance with the speaker. I knot for a fact that they moved the vibration motor on the 5t to the bottom off the phone, so it's next to the speaker. Again it's almost no sound and you'll only notice it if you're very carefull. I just wanted to check if my conclusion is right and there is no problem with the phone itself.
In the following video I demonstrate te problem. I will play some music and then let the phone vibrate. From second 2 to 5 you'll hear the 'water drop' sound. The speaker is now still on because it takes some time for the speaker to totaly 'rest' (again this is normal and on every single phone with a speaker). After second 5 the speaker turns totaly off however, and now you'll hear no more water drup sound.

I've also contacted Oneplus Support wirh the video. They said that their devices had it too and that it was a normal sound. What do you guys thinks?

In my eyes OnePlus has done some sh** with this. Same like the "upside down" screen in OnePlus5.
Edit: don't get me wrong. I love the 5T and I cannot think of using another smartphone. But I know oneplus and they will say:"It's normal behavior Blabla"

Thanks for the reply man!
I've seen both treads (made the OnePlus one myself haha). Also got answer from the technical support of OnePlus who analysed my video more times and told me they noticed the sound but it's normal and in their phones too.
I agree that they did not totally think this one through. The vibration motor is just to close to the speaker.. They should have put in the same location as the 5.
But well I guess it's just getting used to. Many people don't ever noticed it I guess, for instance, when you turn on 'sound on tap' you can't even hear it, and it sounds pretty normal if you don't know better.
I'm glad that it's not a hardware malfunction, but it's some getting used to. Further than that, it's an truly amazing phone..

I think many people don't realize it because it's so little? I mean when you do notice it and you're like us (worried if you're new phone might be broken) you'll know. But otherwise the sound is pretty normal I guess?
Glad that it's okay
