I wanted to upgrade the radio on my stock O2 Ignito as I read that 1.00.25.BS14 may be better at getting a GPS fix.
After reading all the [TUT]s and asking some noob questions I still wasn't sure *exactly* what steps and which files were necessary.
I tried copying the .nbh file from the zipped archive of radio 1.00.25.BS14 from here to my \Internal Storage and, using the tutorial here, I tried to flash my radio without using ActiveSync.
That DID NOT WORK, because the stock SPL in my phone wouldn't allow the flash to take place. (NOTE: I'm sure it would work fine if I had the correct HardSPL already installed)
I bit the bullet and realised that I had to upgrade the stock SPL to Hard-SPL which means a hard reset.
I found the Hard-SPL Dev Editions here (2nd post)
I read the instructions several times which suggested that, for my stock O2 Ignito 1.93 SPL, I should upgrade to V1.93 OliNex using 1/Unsigned-Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex.zip & 2/RUU_Signed_1_93OliNex_HSPL_UnsignedEdition.zip
To assemble the correct files for the upgrade I unzipped both packages to my laptop PC and then replaced the .nbh file in the 1st package (which is V1.4) with the .nbh file from the 2nd package (which is 1.93).
I then followed the EXCELLENT instructions in the [TUT]Complete upgrading guide (HardSPL+Radio+ROM)and successfully upgraded my radio from 1.00.25.05 to 1.00.25.BS14
It may be a little better, time will tell
I posted this to maybe help those of us with the UK Ignito with SPL 1.93, Radio 1.00.25.05 who might be a little confused about how to do this.
Now I just need to update my sig

I found that installing Quickgps from Swtos made a huge difference to the time to get a fix.

Shouldn't be necessary as O2 provide the ephemeris data through normal GSM channels to the Qualcomm chipset
Having said that I'd be willing to try QuickGPS that installs and works specifically with an Ignito.
Link please
I've tried a couple of QuickGPS links previously but they wouldn't install

EDIT: Blimey Mike, you're not kidding, my Ignito was taking 30 secs on a good day and up to 10 mins on a bad one to get a fix. As soon as I soft reset and downloaded the packedephemeris I got a fix in about 5 seconds.
All Ignito owners should take note and try this. N.B. You *have* to soft reset *before* QuickGPS will connect to the servers!!
I owe you a real life pint for this one pal
Kim
Glad to help Cozzy, but credit to Swtos, I also tried a few different quickgps cabs, and some registry tweaks, and it was only when I found this one that it worked.
Don't know why o2 left it out in the first place.
I have now ditched the o2 rom and am using Swtos 1.6 light with HTC home, and SPB phone suite for the wireless and profile managers, which I find more familiar and easier to use.
I also have a rom with 2d manilla on my orbit, and much prefer this to 3d manilla. If there was a rom for the Diamond using 2d Manilla I would be interested in that.
Still using stock radio though .05

Yes, thanks to This thread.
Worth noting again, that first time around under Vista did not work, I had to dig out an XP based PC to re-flash the original T-Mobile UK WM5 ROM. I then ran the procedure a second time under XP and it worked. The OS may or may not have been the factor, first time round might have been something else. XP was required to restore the original ROM.
The update to WM6 was well worth it in my mind even if purely for the instantly noticeable speed increase of the software.
thanks gajet - i'm gettign more and more tempted. one more thing - where could i get hold of the original t-mob uk rom - just for safety.
cheers
si
if its anything like finding a WM5 tmobile NL rom i'll wish you good luck. couldn't find one after bricking my own MDA CIII trying to upgrade it to WM6.
if you brick it your only choice is to wait until the official WM6 release from tmobile UK or send it back to them for repair
hi fout
well looking at gajet's post it seems there is a uk rom out there in the wild - just wondering where i might find it....
si
I actually found you the link in the main WM6 WWE topic, it links directly to the file on rapidshare.
here you go: http://rapidshare.com/files/17854890/art_tmouk_11311001_024990_wwe_ship.exe
and good luck upgrading your device, can't wait until mine gets back
thx fout - i thought i'd seen it somewhere - you found it - cheers!

ok guys - i did it! worked first time - heart in mouth for 15 mins but well worth it. got all my apps working no problem and remembered to write down the t-mobile gprs settings for once!
one other benefit for uk t-mob. on web&walk standard you can't use your phone as a modem - but with this setup you can fabulous!
cheers
si
Installed it today on my MDA3c T-Mobile
But where can I configure the SMS messaging center # (+447958879879) ???

Hiya, that rom you posted, what rom is that? Is it an official t-mob one or is it converted from somone else? Thanks
Oh, and how does it work on the UK MDA with its missing wifi?

hi danny
it works fine with the lack of wifi - just doesn't have a button in comms manager as before. the rom we're talking about in this thread is the official t-mob uk wm5 (five) rom - which is good to have in case the update goes wrong.
i'm using bepe's rom on my mda c iii and it's tons better than the original. just make sure you read the threads first for instructions.
good luck.

thanks, which wm6 rom do you recommend?
If anybody interested in my few hours expirience with MDA C III UK + WM6 here it is:
Device: MDA Compact III UK original ROM,
Unlocked before wth IMEI Check
First I used the USPL as advised by Pof here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311479
It didn't work first time. I had errors 260 and 270. I repeated the process and it went OK after second time. Then I flashed with the B&W V2 rom. It seemed to end OK.
Notes: Before the play I used latest SPB Backup and made full backup in FlightMode. First thing I did after waking the device in WM6 was restore from it. The process went OK. After restart I got tens of notifications about installing untrusted or something DLLs and EXEcs. After that it hanged and didn't even wanted to wake up anymore.
So - hard reset -> partial restore -> PIM data only and it worked.
Excel and Word are buggy in terms of file handling. You can forget about them for now or use only as readers.
Comm Manager was working only up to the first reset. Then all buttons are hiden under the last one in upper-left corner. You can actualy see them rendering one after another.
GPS checked using iGo 2006 - working fine.
Conclusion:
I'm going to check how it synchronises with Missing Sync on my Mac. The latest version sould work with WM6. If it works I think I'm gonna stay with it longer. Word & Excel is not used by me often enough to stop me trying this Rom. Comm Manager - though, can try to live without it.
I have just flashed with the black and blue rom and all is well apart from the comm manager, yup, all one big mess in the top left. think its something to do with wifi, it was fine on the first boot, it showed the wifi icon but now its reset its gone all funky.
So... The WM6 rom is back up on the dopod asia site!!

FAQ:
====
Q1: Is This the ANZ Version or the SEA Version:
A1: This seems to be the ANZ version as it is from the ANZ site and the description of the HTC download site is: "D810 WM6 GPS Enabled ROM code for Hutchison ‘3’ and Optus network – version 3.00.707.18"
Q2: I'm having trouble downloading off the HTC link, what should I do?
A2: There is a rapidshare link above, try that. If you are still having trouble PM me.
Q3: What is the difference between this version and the one released a couple of weeks ago?
A3: This is two minor revisions later - This previous release was 3.00.707.16. this is 18. Hopefully this fixed the problem some people were having with upgrading getting stuck at ~30%. EDIT: So far several people are still having this problem.
Q4: Does this ROM fix the TomTom bug involving the device code changing on each hard reset?
A4: According to a post on page 2 it does!
Q5: Is there a new SEA release?
A5: It appears HTC have re-released the same SEA rom with a new date. This seems to make sense as the problem with the original rom was partially related the 3 Australia.
Q6: Will this rom work on devices other than once branded as Dopod d810?
A6: It should, although you will need to remove the service provider lock (SPL) from your device first. Further information can be found here (do some searching and research prior to using this):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299659&highlight=hard-spl
Q7: What is the deal with the languages?
A7: This is the World Wide English (WWE) edition which basically means it is in english. You can install this over a device which is in another language however you device will then be in english.
Q8: Will installing Hard-SPL (see Q6) void my warranty?
A8: Short answer is yet. However, you should be able to switch back to your original firmware etc prior to sending the device in for a warranty repair so you should be able to fool them.
Q9: Does this rom come with office and acrobat etc?
A9: It comes with Acrobat Reader LE and Office.
Q10: Can I read office 2007 files on my PDA with this ROM:
A10: Yes, you need this file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310832
Note, the link on the original post is dead, have a look at this post for the link:

Work on HTC P3600?
I'm gonna be upgrading my Wizard w/ Faria WM6 on it to a P3600.
Anyone know if this ROM will work on the HTC P3600?
I'm assuming it will as my Wizard is a Qtek and the ROM is from HTC.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure it will work if your phone is SP unlocked. (Can't tell you 100% though)
A Rapidshare link has now been added for anyone having trouble with the dopod link. Rapidshare link is located in the original post.
Is this the SEA or ANZ version?
Not sure which it is. I got if off the ANZ site so I assume either they've unified them or it is ANZ.
EDIT: Just copied this of the dopod site so I assume it is ANZ - "D810 WM6 GPS Enabled ROM code for Hutchison ‘3’ and Optus network – version 3.00.707.18"
EDIT2: If anyone does have links to the SEA version please post it here and I will add it to the initial post.

This is a repost of ANZ Rom, with radio shipped on ANZ before and some minor change in the OS, probably a bugfix.
Main Changes:
in Application, OEMAPPS
StreamingPlayer
VideoStub
Streaming Video is now called Streaming Media
DLL
In OEMAPPS
Rtsphandler.dll
in OEMDRIVERS
rilgsm.dll
wavedev.dll
Removed CommManagerRes_dll.cab
All the other files seem to be the same: there are 1175 different files but as to me it is due to a new packaging.
The most interesting part, except streaming media, are the two new drivers rilgsm.dll and wavedev.dll
I'm trying to install these different files on my device... wavedev.dll seem to have cause my trinity to stuck at the animated boot screen with sound (a personal hack in the registry). After a soft reset the animated boot screen has been disabled. Rilgms.dll should be related to radio search and roaming switching, and probably is installed to support the new radio shipped. I've radio 1.46.00.11 and can't turn on the phone anymore
All the above is a mine investigation, if you think I'm wrong you can correct me. I'm open to learn more...

No, just trying to update my lasagna by hand, but it doesn't work.
To see the differences Ive extracted the two roms and made a binary compare between files..
PS: After removing these two dlls my animated splash worked again and my phone too...

Is there also a new SEA version. I don't have a Dopod device so my P3600 EMEI does not allow a download.

I cannot find a new SEA rom. They changed the ROM date in the website - D810 WM6 English Version Upgrade code (2007/07/10), but if you try to download it goes to the same file - D810_SEA_WM6_Upgrade_20070709 - released before.
Fixes TomTom bug and works on UK Orange SPV M700
Hi all,
Having installed this ROM last night, I just thought I would let you all know the following:-
1. It FIXES the TomTom bug/incompatability whereby the Device Code keeps changing each time you Hard Reset! For me, this is *the* MOST important fix.
2. It works perfectly on the UK Orange SPV M700 version of the Trinity. In fact, there is no need for SuperCID or any of that lark, just unlock the phone from Orange (using the sticky thread in the Trinity Upgrading forum) and away you go. My advice is to press the Reset button right at the end of the initial date/time/screen alignment setup to stop it installing the Extended ROM.
3. This is the ANZ (Aus/NZ) version of the ROM, but it IS WWE (World Wide English)
I've only been running it and using for a few hours, but currently, all seems good. Definitely worth trying I'd say.
Regards, Moz.
I've tried it several times now, but somehow can't get past the 28% mark.
Tried all the unlock tricks...
Somebody a suggestion ?

I got several questions:
1. Can I also install it on a P3600 with German language (I know that it is in English then, but that´s better anyway)?
2. My Triny is not branded (bought from Amazon). This won´t be a problem?
3. Is it branded then, because it´s a Dopod Version?
4. Can I still install German programs like the German Tom Tom or Langenscheidt Dictionaries or do I need new versions for WM6 and/or the English BS?
5. Is a English PDA compatible with German Outlook
6. Is also Office Mobile, Acrobat etc. onboard?
7. Will I loose my guarantee?
8. Can I go back to the official German WM5 in case of Problems?
9. Can I use this Update straight from my Vista PC or do I also need to change some dll´s?
10. Are any functions like European 3G etc. disabled, when installing this Australian version?
11. When the update stucks at a certain %, can I still update the other rom to use this update later or do I have a problem then?
Please, forgive me that I post so many questions.
Thank you so much for your answers.

OK - which RADIO do you have? - this is not clear.
You should try - Hard reset - install tomtom6.03 start up tomtom - sometimes for say 30s tomtom can say no GPS device - before the message changes to waiting for a valid GPS signal. Be patient.
Also search for "no GPS Trinity" here: http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all
you should find others with the same experience as you!
Good luck.

hey! We have exactly same problem! the radio also show 1.16.00.00 on mine!
Upgrade your radio then it should work! had a friend who had also a very old version. He got's it fixed with upgrade!
i have already replied you in the other thread where you posted this issue.. there's no need to double post this. I've posted the link to hard-spl 1.20
you need to use hard-spl 1.20 olipro to install your radio, 1.30 has resulted in radios not being flashed even though you follow all the steps.. there is a note about this in the guide if you read it carefully.
Flashed With Olipro 1.20
RACERX i have flashed it with olipro 1.20 but still it shows no GPS device? even after 20 minutes of keeping tomtom on. should i upgrade rom to 1.40 GPS, i saw one on this forum. although i have downloaded it but it ROM update utility shows pretty strange words on its menu!!! what next
what radio do you currently have
The problem is clearly that you radio ROM is not up to date - and that it why you don't have GPS.
hi buddy! I got it solved!!! Yes it's the problem of the radio, and seems that if your hard SPL version is 1.30, you are not able to flash the radio. everytime it seemed works but after flash the radio just remain the same.
read this thread,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1483529#post1483529
there is a radio ROM with hard SPL which flashs the hard SPL first then the radio. I succesfully found the device and got GPS working yesterday!

No - reading is out of the question. What you have to do (especially if you are new) is just create a new thread - or if not post the same question in as many threads as you can find that are half relevant.
(This of course is cynical sarcasm. Please - do not do the above. I implore you all to READ - as you will find the answers. Also - when you find an answer to your question - try thanking the person who brought you the answer - instead of pretending that you found something new out)
Probably radio version 1.46.00.11

my goodness... it says on the bottom of the guide in BRIGHT RED FONT "If you have followed these steps, but your radio has not been upgraded, please install Olipro's Hard-SPL version 1.20 found here using SSPL (do not enter bootloader manually) and try to flash your radio again. After doing so, it is recommended that you flash Hard-SPL 1.30 again."
i've now posted this info in the million noob threads as well... seriously ppl..
Thank You Very Much
RACERX you are the MAN, you really are an expert. Now my GPS device is working but searching for the signals as i am in Pakistan these days. Know of any south asian (pakistan or saudi arabia) maps available.
Besides tomtom, which one is the best GPS navigator? And if possible can u tell me where i can find information regarding using my laptops net connection for my PDA? i am an old user of computers (since 1991) but a newbee in the world of pocket pc, and its because of you that i could change completely my SFR s300+ into an english windows mobile 6. I will donate something for you man. I read many threads carefully but was wondering around untill you pulled me outg of this trouble.
Again THANK YOU VERY MUCH
glad it helped.. i'm not familiar with which map programs support pakistan. I use MapKing for Singapore where i am, and love it ... i don't see a pakistan map, but you can check http://www.mapking.com/en/MK10/MK10_Dowload_Eng.htm#Malaysia Tom Tom seems to be quite popular, but again i don't know what countries it supports. Maybe you could try garmin or something? I know that they at least support thailand and such.
about your net connection, you basically want to use your trinity as a bluetooth modem? I've never done it, actually, but i think there are some threads on it if you search around. sorry i can't be more help. let me know if you get stuck
Thanks Again
I really appreciate for your timely and valuable response.
Hi all
I've taken a good long read throughout this Upgrade to WM6 subforum, I like the idea of it a lot and want to go ahead and do it, but having never re-flashed a PDA Phone before (I've done my PSP lots of times tho but thats easy in relation) I think its very difficult to find anywhere to even begin from!
Can anybody just give me a total-overall-topdown-summary-breakdown of the steps I need to perform on a fresh T-Mobile MDA Vario II. Doesn't have to be in detail, just all the basic steps required.
The forums, whilst being great for regulars seems to just confuse me the more I read them because of all the new issues raised and the individual cases on different vendor models of the Hermes.
My phone isnt a new Vario II, but I've done nothing to it except install apps, and it is showing REALLY old bootloader (I think 1.04) and radio versions (cant remember) in the system information. I'm presuming it'll require a radio upgrade at the least.
I would really appreciate a summary of everything and I think all newbies would benefit a lot.
Specific areas of confusion and concern -
-I would like to be able to grab the existing memory contents as an image off the phone just in case I choose to return to WM5 in future, and have a way of easily restoring it with no fuss. Exactly like ghosting a PC will return the whole OS, and all files and apps. Any recommendations how?
-I cant choose which custom third party WM6 ROM to use or just use HTCs official one if I should.
-I dont know if I'll still be able to use TomTom Navigator and some games plus I'm running TCPMP with the YouTube FlashVideoBundle. Will this still work?
-Should I upgrade the radio and bootloader before thinking about moving to WM6? Is there any other areas I should be flashing/rejigging before upgrading? Eg whats this about the ExtRom and gaining more space (obviously good)?
-The vendor lock on the firmware concerns me. Is there one on the UK T-Mobile MDA Vario II? Also about what I read somewhere about how disabling the lock with one of your tools might brick the phone (or am I getting confused somewhere along the line).
-As the community moves on with further developments, the divide between n00bism (me) and l33t (you) increases - case in point - kitchens??? I'm not saying though that it shouldn't happen!
Many thanks for everybodys work.

(1) No idea, but why would you want to return to WM5. Once you have WM6, you'll never go back. I'm sure there is probably a WM5 somewhere.
(2) I use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334946

(4) Upgrade the boot loader. Radio is optional, but I recommend it to.

go to programs\advanced config (or system tools, cant remember)
Find advancedconfiguration options, go to keyboard, then select Cingular out of the list
I had to do the same thing on schaps with my 8525

are you talking about system tools\ htc custom?
it's already on Cingular
Also, anyone know how to get rid/change the second startup screen (Blue and Green with Windows Mobile)
Whoa, subject hijack...
...oh well, not to worry.
Anyway, in response to gwtx2, I might want to go back because some little thing I need might not work, and I might require some T-Mobile support, I'm sure they'll not touch a phone thats been reflashed with unofficial fw.
Also T-Mobile might release an official WM6 Hermes upgrade too.
Besides, have you never heard of this 'take backups = a good thing' thing?
Besides, it must be relatively easy, how else would all these custom hermes firmwares be built from?
How do these guys do it?
Thx
Stu
sorry .. didn't mean to hijack

Many thanks for pointing me towards MrVanx's Hermes Guide site.
Are you sure its fine to be using the VP3G firmware for my phone given it was derived from and is in general use with a US model AT&T 8525 (A hermes 100)?
My phone is a UK model T-Mobile MDA Vario II (A hermes 300)? Thats three differences I see (Country, operator firmware, hardware revision)!
Although MrVanx guide says the Vario II is suitable on the first page, I'm thinking its worth going for a different ROM derived from the Vario II for luck.
If I choose to go with another that was derived from the HTC official one, I'm presuming the general instructions are the same then?
eg.
#1 take down settings and xfer files.
#2 reflash HardSPL bootloader
#3 reflash radio version
#4 reflash ROM.
#5 restore settings & apps.
Am I right?
Many thanks again.
Done some stuff!
Hi all again.
Right, I've been perhaps too brave for my own good, but it turned out well!
I've installed HardSPL 2.10.Olipro on my phone, plus I've gone the whole hog and picked a very up to date radio version 1.54.00.10, I think it was originally ripped from a french firmware, I figured a Euro fw would be best suited for my UK model Hermes.
I was right I think - I now see a good fast T-Mobile home webpage, and sites load pretty good once it finds it. I also tried YouTube on TCPMP player, that seems quicker but I couldn't be totally sure.
One point I should note - When running the RUUWrapper app, AutoDetect flashed up a YES NO question on the PDA screen to accept running the program. Problem is I didn't catch it in time, so instead it threw up an autodetect error. Now after closing RUUWrapper and re-running it, it never throws up the YES NO question any more in any radio flasher (even after rebooting the PDA and the PC)! Instead I had to choose the HardSPL tickbox and the SPL 2.02/2.10 fourth option down, to continue. Slightly concerning but it worked.
Now all I need to do is up to a WM6 firmware when I choose one, it's gone well so far so my luck is bound to change!
QUESTION PLEASE-
Does anybody know the T-Mobile UK 3G Cellular Line access point password? I know the username but would need to fill in the pwd. The username is t-mobile but the pwd is ****** and wont copy paste of course! Its in the bit where you see the access point address - general.t-mobile.uk.
Many thanks to all for helping me this far.

The general answer to the first part is it doesn't really matter which provider gave you your Hermes as long as it is one. (Actually, there are some differences between Hermes models but honestly don't worry about that for now.)
Don't worry about going for a ROM that's derived from T-Mob. Basically, all the different network providers get given the latest working versions of Windows Mobile from time to time for them to either check and have a play with or to customise and release as an upgrade or in the newest issues of their phones (or as a download for current users).
My Hermes is Orange UK (i.e. SPV M3100) but I've ended up at various times having WM6 versions derived rom AT&T, T-MOb, HTC et al. The only thing that matters is that it's Windows Mobile for the Hermes.
As to going back to WM5, I think it's worth having the original ROM about. If you search around the Hermes Wiki (I'd do it but it's late and I honestly can't be bothered, soz!) you'll find a list of original ROMs available for download. Note your current version and go download it so it's there ready for you to pit back on should you ever want to. (Warranty-claim time can be a good time for that.)
I'd suggest the following as a routine, myself:
1. Note down any details you might need later such as ROM version etc. Anything that comes up briefly after soft-reset or in Device Info and About in settings and any network setting for acessing GPRS or 3G etc.
2. Download the OliPro bootloader and install. The reason for this is to protect yourself as much as possible against problems.*
3. Have a gander at all the current cooked ROMs. I'd advise initially going for a lightish version as you can always add to it with cab files for your preferred extra bits.
4. Don't go for the Kitchens yet. It's best to mess with installing ROMs before trying to make one. The people eho run the kitchen threads, and the people who wrote the tools they use, have all worked very hard on making it possible for people who don't know much to make their own version of WM6 easily. It's easy but do it later.
5. Radio is absolutely optional and in most cases not very unnecessary. Like everyone else, I always want the latest of everything just in case there's a tiny, incremental improvement but if you have no problems with reception or internet access then worry about that last, if ever. Not every radio version is 'better' than the previous. The most recent version always has the highest version number obviously, but new versions are often brought out to deal with issues in a particular geographical area (usually country-specific AND network-specific, though it may or may not be better for other users elsewhere). The latest version of radio may be better for you but it might be worse and it might stop your internet of wifi working or something. Leave it for now if you have no issues with any kind of radio-related functions.
6. Installing your apps and settings is obviously something you'll do when the phone itself is done.
*There is another BRILLIANT touch to make sure you're extra super-safe and it's particularly easy: follow this link: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing . Basically, if you keep a copy of the a ROM image (renamed to HERIMG.nbh) on your microSD card (check the wiki item for specifics) then you can flash your phone at the touch of a button (well, two butons) from there in an emergency. even if your house loses ekectrical power during the flashing process whilst it's connectedto your PC and your Hermes won't even THINK of booting with half an OS flashed to it, you can very nearly always restore the ROM by flashing from the card.
It's all dead simple one you get into it, it's just a tad worrying before you start to take a scalpel to a new toy you just paid good money for.
You'll be fine mate.
Aha! Your success story must've appeared whilst I was busy typing!
Nice one. Ah well!
WOOOHOOO! I'm on WM6!!!
Many thanks chunkymunky for all your comments, its nice to know some fellow brits are on here too. Which phone do you have?
Its also nice to know that any hermes ROM will work on my phone, and I'm definitely going to have a go at this SD card reflash at some point now I'm gaining confidence in reflashing. Having said that, I have an old HTC Blue Angel (Orange SPV something) and that used to occasionally crash and do a full hard reset, erasing everything. My hermes has never done that so SD reflashing could be moot.
As it goes I'd like to share my experiences - late last night I flashed my Vario II with Fun_Keys 1.5.2 thats based on the 3.62 WM6 ROM. It reflashed fine, and I am utterly over the moon!!!! My phone has been reborn into something far better, faster in lots of areas. T-Mobile UK be damned for not releasing an official WM6 upgrade (yet) because WM6 is noticeably faster, looks really great with the shiny black theme. etc etc etc.
And because of all the work the ROM authors have done, I now get full on HSDPA access on my phone, I get the H icon on the top bar and everything! I know the H Icon being present now doesnt mean that I didn't get HSDPA before on my original WM5 firmware, but I'm pretty sure it is muchos faster.
Besides, a while back, a guy on T-Mobile UK tech support said I'd only get HSDPA when using my phone as a modem for a laptop, not via PocketIE on the phone itself. That made me feel I'd been a bit ripped off.
Oh and TCPMP with FlashVideoBundle works fine too and the phone downs YT Videos really quickly. I don't even have a serious problem with the ATI Imageon stuffs.
I'd like to mention that after a good while using radio versio 1.54.00.10 that it works fantastically on a UK T-Mobile MDA Vario II. HSDPA access included. Not unexpected since it was on 1.05.05.00!!!
Also TomTom works fine with two different bluetooth GPS receivers I have. WM6 has granted me access to the 'External GPS' option in the control panel I was missing originally (bloody operator firmware!) - as a result Google Maps can now use my GPS too!!!
As a techie by profession, I'm also loving all the extra tools Fun_Keys put on, like the advanced configuration tool, the task manager, regedit etc.
Countless other advantages I've gained has basically brought my phone a new lease of life, now I definitely dont plan to upgrade to a newer phone any time soon.
Who would have thought such a simple thing would bring such happiness!
The only disappointment was with having to up to ActiveSync 4.5 which killed my partnerships! No biggie, and nothing to do with WM6.
a big Thank You to the XDA Developers forum in general for your tireless efforts.

every time i tried to update the rom or radio i've got the
260 error...why is that?...i have a htc mda basic t-mobile...and its sim locked to austria....can somebody tell me how to unlock it?
Hi all....
1st.. dont flash any full stock ROM cause it includes SPL and radio those (most important radio) are the first thing to brick a device...
2nd.. many times i flash back to wm6 just to test the performance, is ok but you must to stripp the stock rom and guess what?... is hard... so i suggest if you all want to go back to wm6 use the stripped att stock rom
So, has anyone successfully unlocked, hard spl and flashed a new ROM into an O2 Ignito?
There's so little about the O2 ignito here, but i'm thinking to get one and try a wwe Rom on it.
Thanks all
some people have them

Ehh?
There's not much information relating to the "MDA Compact IV" either.

True true, but don't forget it's the same hardware anyway so all of the updating applies to all 3 versions of the phone.
I personally have the MDA Compact IV and have updated ROM/SPL/Radio fine, and my friend has the O2 XDA Ignito and has also updated all 3 of his so i can confirm its safe
The XDa Ignito comes unlocked as standard - you can use any SIM card in it. As for the rest - I put Olinex 1.40 on mine and then have flashed 3 different roms from here all fine
I'm going to put a new rom on my Ignito tonight hopefully.
First though I want a copy of the original O2 rom to put back on if necessary.
So far i've managed to dump the rom from the phone to my computer, but now just need to convert that all back into a ROM somehow.

same position here, i got the raw files and the spl but trying to find out how to build a rom with the raw files.
please update if youv managed to find anything
I also have the raw files but if I have no idea how to get these back into a normal flashable o2 rom! I am sure we will manage it if we need it for warranty purposes though if it comes to it
i think we need to start a new thread for this to get more attention, some of the advanced users will deffinitely be able to help.
its worth doing in my opinion
As has already been stated, there's loads of us XDA Ignito users on here. Within 2 days I'd flashed a new SPL and ROM onto my device. Would be nice to have the original o2 rom to roll back to if necessary but I'm perfectly happy with out it currently.
As far as I'm aware o2 are one of the few operators that don't lock their devices. Out of all the handsets I've had from them over the years I'm as yet to receive a sim locked one.
markquinton,
can you help us out with redeveloping the original o2 rom!
seems like you have some ccoking experience having a custom rom on your orbit! see my previuos post in this thread
I'm afraid I only built custom rom's from the base HTC one's made available for the Orbit originally when WM6.1 came out. I've never worked with raw files and wouldn't have the foggiest about how to get them back into a flashable state. Sorry!
hi all am hoping to get this thread going again as im having trouble geting Unsigned-Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex onto my ignito. did any of you guys have trouble?
Hard SPL on ignito
I managed to install the hard SPl onto my ignito, but have been unable to flash a new rom.
Think the pre-installed works well though, I just installed the original black theme as the blue o2 one is pants.
Radio upgrade has been fine.
Biggest recommendation I have is to install the VGA version of quick GPS. It REALLY made a difference to my satellite lock times from like 10 mins to about 10 secs
no problems with it works fine mine was on o2 software using latest dutty's now.
give it a go, loads faster now
