i have a cingular 8525 running windows 6 .On the store card i have 139.00mb in use and 1797.64 free memory but on the storage main memory it says 44.77 mb with 41.35 in use and the programe 48.77mb with 29.93 in use. my storage card is nowhere full can someone tell me why i dont have any memory?

The cingular 8525 is an HTC Hermes (tytn), you might want to check THAT forum section.

Dude, i have a Cingular 8525 purchased from NCD_X on this same forum and have flashed my own Hermes roms among many others
edit, and to answer your question, your looking at memory left on the phone not the storage card.

not quite sure
Not quite sure I follow the above posts, your question is in reference to the htc 8525. This is the correct forum for that phone.
In regard to the memory, the 8525 has 128mb flash and 64mb for ram
when you load a program onto your storage card (max 2gb) some data to run that program is loaded onto your phone, usually into your storage memory, the phone then uses the program memory to run programs, the more programs you have open the less program memory you will have available.
To clean up your program memory try using cleartemp, it will help.
BS roms also tend to have more program memory free, and usually run faster, however they can be less stable and have fewer options that are part of the rom. Try a few and see which you like.
A very fast recent rom is Joshkoss' haloween rom
http://www.4shared.com/file/67573750/da52b5f1/V9b1_Light_HalloweenRom.html
But remember you will need to install the programs you want and watch the memory as you install them.

@lewentoons, this was originally in the Wizard forums, thats why it got moved, and thats why it originally wasnt in the correct area.

thanks
I figured something was behind it......

how can i get more memory (program memory) on my xda II mini

i've installed lots of programs on my sd some installed parts on phone memory and it;s kinda full. any suggestions? i've deleted anything that i could . Maybe a program to compress . maybe from storage where i have about 20 MB free? thanks
re: more memory
try to install big storage rom on your toy. it might help you. browse the forum for the links.
Is xda II mini the magician equivalent?
I'm asking because I want to make sure what OS version it is.
If it's WM 2003 you should have a slider to shift between program and storage memory, and if it's WM 5 than nothing can be done.
Any way if it's program memory (RAM) you are after, than (at least in WM5) what's installed where doesn't matter.
If you are using WM 2003 search the forum for 'NeverDorkMemory' it's a reg hack that prevents the system from automatically distributing RAM between storage and program.

Empty ExtROM Storage, any good use for it?

Hi all,
I am currently using Jwright's WM6 ROM (so far so good, thanks J) and applied the ExtROM unlocker patch. I have 10MB free on this partition but not sure what to do with it.
I used to have Magician before and after emptying the ExtROM, I could use it for Program Files folder. But I dont think it's useful to do that for device with WM2005 or above.
So anyone has any idea to make use of it? Thanks.
you could put porn in there i suppose.....
I unlocked the extrom on my uni, helmi_c 1.1 rom.
However, when I delete the contents, it always re-appears. Any files copied in there, disapear.
Help.

I too am curious about this - is there a means of adjusting the Disk On Chip to utilise the space more effectively (as can be done on the Himalaya)?
@drsqueggy - that's what the 4Gb SD card is for
@Pyrofer - it sounds like it is un-hidden but still locked, ensure it is actually unlocked (and then search forum or start another thread if problems continue)
-sf
I gotta go with porn too.
You could put a few cabs in there of programs that you like such that if you have to 'system restore' the device, the programs auto-install for you.
It's a miniature time-saver, I guess, but I don't know if such programs could be uninstalled or upgraded when you were done.
Maybe keep one song you really, /really/ like in there?
Or porn.
how bout fonts???
and why not install progs which have today plugins/ load at start up....
a media player/photo viewer....so you can swap sd cards and still play media files..
with 10 mb porn on it, I have to be quick.
Man, 10k would be more than enough time for me... I'm over the hill
my suggestion is to make best use of the space available by storing your cab files. In case one needs to reload any application behaving strange it would help besides your storage card for other things.

I use this space for Internet Explorer Cache file. This can be easily done by changing the location of cache file in the registry.

Memory trouble! Fusion?

Hello everyone!
As usual let's start with the description of my current situation:
I have a HTC P3300, with the official HTC WM6 Update.
I have also installed the HTC Touch layout, provided in this forum. ;-)
I have a MicroSD of 2 Gb, only half full.
Now after two years I am starting to notice a loss of speed of my PDA (yeah I know, the P3300 is not the fastest machine so I should not be surprised, and I am not)
Some programs won't start anymore because of "not enough memory". Current Solution: I have to start my P3300 again.
My "Running Programs List" is always empty, so no need to look for a solution there.
The solution is clearly to be found in the Memory status:
Storage 2.50 Mb of 32.45 Mb (and Program 18.25 Mb of 47.90 Mb)
So what I am thinking of:
1. Is there any possibility with the Regeditor to do some kind of fusion of the "Storage and Program Memory", so that I can use the available space on the "Program"side needed on the "Memory"side?
2. Or in case that's impossibe, can something be done about those temp files, without starting the P3300? (best would be that they are deleted immediately after the program that has created them is closed)
3. Or if even this is impossible, can't I use the empty space from my MicroSD Card? Of course the files should also be deleted automatically.
So I hope I have explained clearly enough the problem and my preffered solutions. I am gratefull for every help offered. I was always pleased with this forum, and this time I am awaiting nothing less! Thanks alot in advance.

I think that’s normal the last time, lots of readers but no solutions, most of them download a rom and after that it’s done, no feedback en no help when someone have a problem. Only when the have a problem there self than the know to scream here at XDA. Sorry I'm not that tech that I can help you.
Your device has very little internal storage free, best solution is to move large files, and install software to your memorycard.
Your program memory seem to be normal.
Some cooked rom's have far more storage memmory than the official wm6.
My device have around 30 diffrent software's installed mostly to memorycard, i have 36mb internal memory left and 18-21 program memory.
I have moved most of the content of my documents to memory card to free upp internal storage.
I dont think you can change the relationship between internal storage and program memory, to do that you have to change to another rom.
You can try oxios hibernate to release program memory, visit oxios homepage to see if it's something for you.
Thanks for the help.
My Documents are all on the memorycard. Well, except the "my documents" that are put per default on the P3300, so let's say my REAL documents are on the card.
Concerning the programs, unfortunately those I have installed hadn't any possibilities to be installed on the card (except for some program's extensions, like for example TomTom's maps).
So after this my choices are pretty limited.
But thanks anyway that someone has tried his best.
Install big programs to the memory card instead of the storage memory.
With meschle's Artemis Touch 4.02 full with no cube, TomTom installed amongst other applications (Phone's been on for two days with Tomtom running and activesync:
Storage:
Total: 46.22MB
In use: 14.01MB
Free: 32.20MB
Program:
Total: 50.86MB
In use: 32.65MB
Free: 18.21MB
After using Oxios Hibernate, the Free program memory has gone to 22.46MB free.
Download Oxios Memory and run Hibernate - that frees up program memory very quickly
Okay so I have installed Oxios Memory.
Until now I have "won" 0.10 Mb Storage Memory and 0.97 Mb Program Memory. I will test this a little bit, seems a good solution before I find the courage to try to reinstall all programs on the memory card (as I said before there are some programs who did'nt asked where to be installed...or I haven't seen it. Everything is possible )
Thanks a lot.
You could use ClearTemp to have the temp folders emptied upon startup: http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff/cleartemp.zip
There are also several tools to change the standard temp folders so they are located on the storage card. Maybe Schaps Configuration tool can do that or maybe WinXplore can't remember, but those tools exist.

getting rid of extrom

hi,
this might be a stupid question being asked and answered 20 times before but i didn't find anything and that's why i'm asking here in particular:
is there a way to get rid of the extrom?
i did this with my blueangel before and it was easy and since the universal has too little memory for my needs and the programs in my extrom suck, i want to do it with that device too. plus i don't want the extrom to be flashed and compiled into a nbf file, but, again, comparable to the extrom for the blueangel i want it to be pt simply on the sd card, which brings the enormous advantage to be highly customizable and i don't need to carry around cabs (in the moment for programs that i don't want anyway) while i don't have space for the programs i need.
so my actual question would be:
- can i use repart_doc.exe and xda-unlock.cab to resize the extrom to 128kb and put an extrom on the sd card instead?
- does the extrom have the same format as on the blueangel (autorun.exe, cfg.txt, bunch of cabs)?
- can i do that in wm6.1, because on the BA i had to go back to wm2003 and couldn't do it in wm5 and above?
greetz, Chef_Tony
Don't think that by getting rid of extrom you will increase your memory. I think maybe blueangel was able to change amount of memory used between storage and program. This is not possible on uni, and it's set at 64MB a piece.
Perhaps wiki:MemoryStorageTypes will help.
the point is: it is generally possible, i know that from the blueangel, and it has nothing to do with the ratio of "program memory" to "storage memory" because that only exists for ramdisks, like back in the day in wm2003. the extrom is always a part of the storage space, just that it's hidden and locked by default, and with the blueangel you could easily resize it.
to explain a little more, since apparently this is not known to universal users:
the blueangel in wm2003 has:
32mb rom
112mb ram (program memory and ramdisk storage space, dynamically, still both lost in power failure)
44mb storage
16mb extrom
for wm6.5:
32mb rom (nothing changed so far)
112mb ram (ONLY program memory, RAM like known from the pc)
60mb storage (old storage space + old extrom made to one partition, usable for installing programs and storing files.)
don't get me wrong, i appreciate your answer, it just doesn't quite get my point.
and about your link:
let me quote a small passage:
Code:
ExtendedROM
Type: Internal Storage
Size: Is usually 9.96MB
What: Extra memory which doesn't survive a soft-reset.
Use: Anything you don't mind losing :)
eh?: This could be considered as a RAMDrive on a PC (that is, in that it's volatile, but not that it takes up any Program Memory)
+info: I use this for all cache (eg PIExplorer, Opera etc)
NB. Again, this is either made available or wasted space you can't use (see FlashDisk NB).
really? the extrom is lost after a soft reset? and how does it install the system enhancements after a hard reset? /irony
the contents of that article are simply wrong. or maybe something got mixed up...
i will just give it a try with the blueangel's tools, and if it works, i will re-post because it will revolutionize the way to look at roms, like it did in the BA section, although i fairly doubt that it would work since i can impossibly be the first to think of something like this.
thanks for your answer,
cheers,
Chef_Tony
ok, i fugured out how to unhide and unlock the extrom and deleted the contents. if i manage to join the former extrom, now "storage" with the original storage space, i finally can use the full memory potential of the device. if anyone wants to give me a hint, i would really appreciate it. probably then, the extrom can also be installed from the sd card and my original plan, not to carry around useless cab files, finally worked.
You are right, I've changed the wiki. Storage does survive soft rest (I wonder if it survives a hard-reset).
VNint did some tutorial on combined storage - can be found here. And Cotulla made a ROM - can be found here.
Hope this is helpful.
great to have you here at the Universal forum Chef_Tony. Sorry I can't offer any technical assistance, just came to give some encouragement
Keep up the good work!

HELP!after upgrading to WM6.1, my universal says Not for G4

I tried to upgrade my dopod 900 this morning from WM5 to WM6.1 using a file i downloaded here at xda. Looks like i got things wrong. After following screen instructions, and finally clicking on the FINISH button, my dopod's screen says Not For G4... I tried to hard reset, etc... But to no avail. This is my first time to do an upgrade..... What do i do now ? Could i still fix my dopod?
Welcome to forums
You have to flash a ROM what is compatible with G4 Universal
Have a look on my signature to select one.
Good luck,
thanx orb...
i also read and did the Mamaich method in the sticky... afterwards i got more confident flashing my rom knowing i cud still bring it to life again. hehe
i'll check other rom's and post some comments from a newbie's point of view...thanx! am learning........
No prob mate
We all were noobs sometime
Hi! I am new here. I have the same unit (Dopod 900). It runs in wm5. My question is can I Flash it from wm5 to wm6.5? Thanks!
Welcome to forums
Yes you can, just go to my signature link and follow instructions on how to upgrade your ROM, you can go to WM 6, 6.1 or even 6.5
Here is my device info:
RAM size: 64 MB
Flash size 128 MB
Flash Chip type: G3
Data bus: 32 bits
It is my first time flashing a device. So I am digging all the info available. But I must admit I need help for I don't understand most of the terms and the things needed to be done in order to flash succesfully.
For instance, do I need to update my activesync before getting unto the procedure? Or are there any one who can give me a link for the instructions for newb. Thanks!
Uni 64 Mb - upgrading from MW5 to ???, only looking for more available memory
Hi all,
yep, still happy with my 2006 model Jasjar . Hard to resist a good offer on a used HD2, but am sticking to my Uni !!
As you can see in my signature I am still running the factory ROM. The only thing that I have been missing so far is push email and the security tools that come with that like remote erase etc... . But that was something I could live without.
I am pretty pleased with the software I am running. Only iGo8 is very demanding and freezes when things get to rough. But other then that, happy. Until recently. I installed SPB shell to get a more updated look and feel, and a few new apps that have fingerstyle and scrolling/flipping effects. Now I see my Uni is getting memory problems. With no apps open, only SPB shell running I have :
Storage: Total 43,50, in use: 36,34, Free: 7.16
Program: Total 50,16, in use: 39,71, Free 10:45
I have cleaned out my phone to the max to free Storage. Deleted all sms'es, and moved all pictures and videos to the SD card. Ran 2 programs to free up memory.
Program memory is decreasing to 6 or 7 when launching f.ex. youtubeplay, SPB TV, Opera, or any type of graphics game.
Conclusion is that I like the look and feel of my Uni, but it looks like I need more memory. I could upgrade from 64 to 128, but that is something I consider as a last way out. That is, if I can find a new OS that frees up enough memory on both Storage and Program. I found soem comments on WM6.1 where some say this is the best solution when all you need is more memory. But if true, how much improvement can this bring? Or are there any basic WM6.5 images out there that suite my needs better then WM6.1?
I have been reading about some of the 6.5 ROMs, and it looks like there are still all with a certain risk of failure at a certain point. My curent ROM is working great, no hick ups. so I would like to keep it that way ;-). Please your opinion.
I did some reading up on how to flash. As it is said, I need to have a copy of my ROM with WM5 in case things go wrong. But I have no idea where to find a copy of my working ROM. But I found some info on making a dums:
http://buzzdev.org/how-to/universal-how-to-d2s-dump-the-rom/
Is this what I am looking for? Does this meanthat if I dump the files on my SD, I'm good?
Looking forward to start flashing! I hope somebody can help me getting started. I guess I first need to clarify the ROM backup. Then I need to make sure I know what NOT to do to avoid bricking my Uni, and last but not least, have a working routing to flash back to my old ROM.
Maybe a few more question for now:
- If I flash to a new ROM, do I need to reïnstall all data, contacts, programs etc?
- Are the Scandinavian letters/alphabet included in all new ROMs?
- Not sure if this is a WM5 limitation, but before I had a 2 Gb SD, and could store my pictures directly on SD, as default location in my camera app. But after upgrading to a 16Gb, this is not working (ironicly "not enough memory"). Looks like the camera app is not supporting 16 Gb. Have been reading about a 4 Gb limitation. Will this be better in newer ROMs?
If you want performance and free RAM try going to WM6.1 (I recommend Tomal 8.2 and 8.5), WM6.5 is not causing problems at least for me but is indeed slower than 6.1
- Yes, you need to reinstall all
- Not all, try checking my sig link and read the thread of the desired ROM
- Again, check my sig link to get working SD cards

@orb3000
I have been reading the thread from Things 6.1 ROM. Looks like I am going to give that one a try. To start with anyway.
About my data. SPB backup has a backup of PIM data, emails and documents. I assume I can use the exe file to restore that after I upgraded the ROM, yes?
about the SD card. I think you misunderstood ;-). My 16 Gb is working, no prob. It is only the camera app that does not want to store it there. If I change the path to my SD, I get a memory error. But I can install apps on it, store data on it, transfer data from my PC to it etc. So most likely itis the camera app, that is from 2006 or earlier, that is not capable on dealing with 16 Gb cards. Just wanted to check if somebody else has the same problem.
Thanks for the reply. I will do some reading on the howto ROM section. Just need to figure out how to get a restorable copy of my current ROM, just in case.
Until Now, I'm still afraid to flash my Dopod 900
Hi! Guys it's been quite a while since I read and read about how to flash my device but until now, I can't find the courage to do so.
Is there someone who can tell me that it is ok to flash my dopod 900?
It is ok to do it!
I flashed my Uni one week after I got it back in 2005 and since then have flashed so many times that I´ve lost count, as long as you follow the instructions all should be ok.
On my sig link there is a good tut on how to
Don´t be afraid! you´ll see the goodness of having a cooked ROM from our great Chefs i XDA
