HTC Hermes rings only twice - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

My hermes rings only twice instead of the standard three times, and if I do not get it on the first ring it does not answer on the second no matter what I do.
The long and short of it is that I am missing a lot of calls, so I have tried alot of ROMS without getting success in attaining the three rings. currently running CRC_r13 Normal.
Can anyone give some insight.
Thanks

I'm thinking 1 of 2 things -- either try flashing a different radio than what you've got, or try a different SIM card. Never heard of that problem though, but unless each of the ROMs you've tried has the same dialer, I can't think of any other possibilities.

I have tried most of the ROMs here, some have work better than others but none have given me that lost ring.
Thanks for your prompt response.
Question though; How would a sim card affect the amount of times the phone rings

what programs have you installed since then? give us a list

Does not matter leaving it naked I get the same rings as if a ton of software is on, anyway here is what i have installed:
Fixed CommManager 2.7.1.8
Audio Manager
2d Manilla Update 19b
DXC IPhone Dialer Martrix v.3c
Office Mobile 2007
S2U2-1.22b-QVGA
Radio version 1.48.00.00
ROM version CRC's r13.0

have you tried the ROM without those loaded, one of those cabs are the culprit as I have used CRC's 13.0 before with spb mobile shell and phone suite, but not having any of your issues.
Edit you might also want to try and flash your shipped rom, what is your device

As I have previously stated, whatever ROM is loaded I get the same result, actually when I got the phone it was only ringing twice, and it came with official software.
I think I have tried every ROM on this site without any increase in the number of rings.
Edit: I am currently using the HTC TyTn

What is your device? I am not having issues with either roms on my jasjam. It either rings or it doesn't. May be it is your voicemail setup if that is the case

voicemail is set by the network, so if you said you've flashed every rom and it only rings that many times, then it will be the voicemail issue. other than that anyone else may be can shed some light, I've given my opinion.

If you want your phone to ring longer you can type in this code.
**61*vvvv*11*nn#
vvvv Is the number you ring to access your voice mails
nn Is how many seconds the phone rings for before diverting. I think the max is
30 seconds and you have to use 5 second increments.
So for example mine is set to **61*101*11*30#
Hope this helps

thank you, seem to learn something new every day!

Or you can go to settings>personal>phone>services>call forwarding and set it to 30 secs... Easier if you cant remember what the numbers you need to dial are...

Both methods do work. Thanks all.
Just shows there is a mixture of skills and talent here and the number of posts does not count at all. And based on the posts that I have read to date there is ALWAYS someone willing to help.
And here I was losing calls for almost a year, with my provider unable to help. I HAVE NOW GOT FOUR RINGS.

Mine always begins at the start of the second ring.
1. use the original phone, not the bloated one with video messaging (not as pretty, but saves 3.5mb on load up)
2. remove memory card readers that are present on the today screen (eg SPB and Resco)
3. delays are longer when the contacts list is longer for caller id (I have 80 not 800)
4. consider when pictures and ringtones are also assigned to the contact (just use the standard single ring tone for all contacts, no pictures)
5. if your ring tones are on your sd card, this will also slow it down (move to windows\rings)
6. i extended the ring period also to a full 30 seconds to ensure that I have enough time to get to the phone when it rings out (phone settings voice mail or contact the provider)
I cannot get it to ring at all ever on the first ring, its always at the very beginning of the second especially from sleep mode or suspended)
3s delay before first effective ringing

HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\TureFFS_G31 and

So, what are they? I guess there are related to ExtendRom and Storage Card.....

How did you get the original phone?
I tried the suggestions on the other thread where you need to change something in the registry, but that just disables the video messaging leaving a blank part on the screen. I want what you have, the original phone skin when I first turned my Universal ON after a hard reset. This original phone skin disappeared after I performed a soft reset.
From the wiki:
To set or remove the operator phone skin
The setting is at 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin'
The 'Enabled' DWORD value can be set to '1' to show the operator skin or '0' to show the default skin

Thanks for the reply, I am not sure if this was the one I tried before from one of the threads. How about you? Have you tried this registry tweak?
I did it by not installing any of the extended rom except operator settings, and the bluetooth patch.
my device boots up with 31mb of RAM available if all start ups and today screens are disabled.
I dont know how to do it otherwise.
I believe the hack mentioned above or similar on how to do it is posted on WIKI.

He guys this is not helping us a bit out of the problem. This has nothing to do with the problem some of us are facing regarding the ringer going off after a 2 to 3 sec delay, making you loose precious seconds to answer the phone before the call gets routed to your operator voice mail system.
And the suggestion that you have to alter the settings regarding the handover time for an unanswered call or the other advising to just cancel the handocer to voice mail is also not helping us.
Brgds, Adhoc.
Please focus on that one !!
Hi,
AutoDPD is Auto Deep Power Down for DOC. I think it takes longer to wake it up from this state and thus it takes longer to ring.
buzz
Radio Rom 1.08 Rings Quickly - but the person on the oher end can't hear you immediately
Rom 1.06 takes a bit longer berfore it rings but you can talk straigt away
The best enhancement if you are not going to use video or 3G speeds is to set you Band to GSM or WCDMA and NOT AUTO, in Phone Settings
Obvioulsy if you have it on WCDMA and there is no 3G coverage you wont get signal

Go into call history, press menu, view timer and press reset timers, if you mean the lifetime one, as far as I know the only way to reset that is reflashing the phone. Hope that helps.

Dude, why don't you try it yourself if you taking the phone back. it's not like your going to lose anything if it doesn't work and it only take about 10 minutes to flash.
BTW: I just got my phone 3 weeks ago and flashed it with 6.1 a few days ago. My lifetime calls show 31 minutes but I have used over 400 when I check my balance.

PLEASE, for the love of God... stop tormenting me WM!

Why does this phone have to be soft reset so often...
Why does it eventually lag and hang up all the time randomly? I tried so many different roms and they just all result to the same problems after a few weeks use.
Is there no way to make this phone reliable???
I am ranting because I missed my job opportunity with a really big company because my phone froze when they called me and didn't receive my voicemails till days later for what ever reason....
This was the one and only time I really didn't want my phone to hang up, and it had to happen when the company CEO decided to call me back, but since my phone was stupid I wasn't able to respond to the offer in time (2 days later)...

Dang, that was a bad break. srry that happened to You. dayuum..i know u was pissed. so did it freeze up on u with the stock rom or some custom one u flashed to it? i never had my stock rom freeze up on me. Only when i was constantly trying new apps and downloads or drivers, it tried to act funny. Id reapply for that position and if u get to the point of call back again, take it and try to explain what happened the first time. All isnt lost, just keep your head up and keep trying.

I have been using WM for almost 4 years and everything SlimJ87D mentions makes total sense to me
i've been using WM since 2003 (7years exactly this august) and i cant remember the last time my device has hung up on me where calls/msgs didn't come in.
Also i'm what you'd call a power user, multiple apps open at the same time and doing 3 things at once.
The majority of lock-ups are from low ram. So just make sure you ram is always good, doing a system cache/temp file clean every now and then (i use dinarsoft's memmaid) and you should be good.
Also sometimes a buggy software will cause the device to freeze, up to you to figure out which one it is if you suspect one.
Best of luck and sucks about that job.
About 2 years ago my exchange server went down without me knowing and wasn't getting emails, when they finally did come through the next morning, i had received an important email concerning a contract deal, called the person back and they had gone with a competitor because i didn't reply soon enough. Lost some money on that and still pissed about it but technology does that to us every now and then.

A lot depends on the phone model and how well you tweak it. I've not had any trouble once the phone was operating correctly. This is one thing that is both a drawback and an advantage of WM - it is flexible, and rewards anyone who takes the time to get to know the OS and the particular phone model.
If you really want "out of the box" experience with any tweaking, I'd go for a different OS.

Wait...your phone froze while you were talking to the CEO of this company, and you couldn't call him back for TWO DAYS???
Ever hear of using another phone? Or a land line?
And I'm not sure what your problem with voice messages was. If you left them messages and they did not receive them, it's their voicemail systems fault, not WinMo's.
If WinMo did not notify you of voice messages that you had waiting, then simply call your voicemail number regardless of whether your phone says you have any or not. You could even call it from a different phone. Not doing so, especially when you are expecting important calls, is simply negligent. Every phone I have ever owned, long before I started to use WinMo, has failed to notify me of voice messages on numerous occasions.
This is as basic as keeping a backup copy of whatever important paper or project you are working on. It should be done with ALL phones, even the infallible iPhone.

Totally agree with moogoo here. The voicemail issue isn't really a hardware issue as much as it is YOU not checking your voicemail or them having issues with there voicemail. Not calling the CEO back right away AFTER you reset your phone... I just couldnt imagine the phone freezing on me and not reseting it and calling the person back right away.
You havn't said whether you are running a stock rom or a custom rom on your phone. If it's stock and you are having these issues I would probably go to where you bought the phone and just have them give you a new one as I've never heard of people having that many issues with their phone. If its a custom rom, the only time I hear of people having the issues you are having is because after flashing their phone they didnt do a hard reset after the initial boot up to make sure everything installs properly. 9 times out of 10 if your phone freezes as much as it does you probably just need to do a hard reset.
Now, the comment about it locking up and what not... if it does it every few days, well guess what. It's a freaking computer! I don't know about you but I dont leave my PC or laptop running for days at a time and expect it to be running as fast as it should. I usually turn those off every night or when I'm not using them. Now we cant just go ahead and turn our phones off at night that doesnt make sense BUT you can at least do a soft reset every now and again and it should speed things up. I know myself I do this at least every 2 days. Again... if it's being as glitchy as it is odds are you just need a hard reset. Try running one of NRG's roms as they seem to be the best out there, at least from the ones I've tried.
So moral of your story.... you need to hard reset your phone once if not twice after you install a new rom..... you need to check your voicemail even when it doesnt show you have missed calls.... you need to call people back immediatly after your phone crashes... dont just put the phone down and hope that it starts working again. They have the reset button on their for a reason!

Hey guys, sorry for the late response.
Well this is what happen. The CEO called me to talk to me about the job but at this very time my phone was frozen and hiccuping without my knowledge. When it does this it just rejects all my calls, but for some reason I never got the missed call or anything. It didn't even show up on screen. My phone randomly hiccups and when it does this everything is ignored, I won't get a missed call, it's like my phone is off. I didn't even get a voice mail message. When I checked my voicemail because one of my friends left me one after I ignored his call it finally gave me a message and it said I had 2 missed voicemails. I thought it was strange that he left 2 voice mails even though I only had his only miss call.. and then I realized he didn't leave 2 voice mails. I heard the voice of the CEO, he said for me to try and call him back. I checked the receipt and it was 2 days late! I called back right away.
I left him a voice mail back, but he left on a business trip and had to select someone else... which happen to be my classmate
And yes, it hiccups all the time. A large part of it is due to the amount of text I receive but not all the time. Under my GFs name we have about 1000s of text saved up and it causes the phone to lag sometimes.
Other lags and hiccups happen randomly when I'm trying to do simple things.
I know you guys are probably angry because I'm talking smack about our phones but please, I really wasn't expecting these kinds of problems with my phones. I'm not some kind of iPhone user disguised to troll.
Some of you guys don't' get the problem, yes you guys are lucky. Maybe have different models. But some of us here do.
Don't be quick to judge me so harshly. I'm only a guy here trying to set a realistic complaint because Windows Mobile should release updates more often, we deserve it, and you guys know we deserve it. By not complaining and pretending these problems don't exist gives Windows a right to not want to optimize their OS.
Thanks Lennzy for PMing me possible solutions to fixing my phone and not trying to give me some kind of life advice where you don't even know what happen.
The way the market is going right now, I just don't want to go through this again... it's such a bad experience... maybe it's fate, maybe I wasn't meant for the job and some other better company will call me. But for the time being I need to fix this phone or get a basic phone to just receive and give calls.
You got two new pm's
It's still prudent to check your voicemail at least once a day regardless of phone notifications. One good failsafe, if you can manage it, is to set things up so you automatically receive emails informing you of new voicemail (this is setup for me through Exchange at work, but I'm sure there are other ways).
As previously mentioned, the problems you are having are far from normal. I'm running a cooked ROM with all kinds of incredible hacks and tweaks, so much so that I'd expect the thing to break more often, but it is just as stable and usable as ever.
Not trying to give you life lessons, just pointing out one that you surely already learned.
Slim, are you in the US? If so, at least a temporary solution might be to use Google voice...it'll take over your voicemail functions, and can notify you via e-mail whenever you get a VM, and it'll even send you a transcript and a downloadable audio file of the message

Try Linux - my home server's been up for 3 months without issue and my misses laptop's often on for weeks
Honestly ever since XP I've had no problem leaving my Windows box running for long periods of time.
Most often the only reason it needs to be reset is because of some update.
Linux is not infallible in this matter. While the core OS is extremely stable, very often the window manager, especially Gnome and KDE can be very buggy and prone to crashing.
Of course it is easy enough to drop out of Xwindows and restart it without restarting the entire OS.

No Service ("Searching...")

Yesterday my HTC Excalibur stopped receiving calls, text messages and would not make calls.
I turned the phone off, took the battery and SIM Card out, put it in 5 minutes later hoping it would work again, it did not.
I did a reset of the phone (accessories, clear storage, 1234), that did not work.
This morning I tried swapping SIM cards with someone else (to see if was the service provider). Both SIM Cards worked in my friends Sony Ericsson but neither worked in my HTC Excalibur.
I have the 3V0 Windows Mobile 6.5 installed.
Is there a way I can fix this?

No, I don't know how.
The phone came with it installed. I bought it new, but the seller installed WM 6.5 before shipping, so it's more like open box.
How long does it take? Should I leave that as a last resort?
Is there anything I can tweak on my phone right now?

Where can I find the most up to date and fastest Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM?
EDIT: OP shared more info related via PM, thread re-open.
As I sent you via PM, hard reset or reflash your device. If that doesn't work get a new sim from your carrier since it can be network related.

reflashed to 6.1 but still no luck.
Again I tried another working sim from the same carrier, both sims work in my friends phone, but neither work on my s620.
I'v been in contact with jockyw2001 for his Excalibur Sim Unlock.
I just don't understand why I have to pay someone for this, I just bought the phone less than a month ago and it's been working perfectly.
How did this happen? How did my phone get locked?

Probably is your internal antenna (hardware). Have you made sure that phone radio is on?

Yes, the phone radio is on.
Now sometimes it says Rogers Wireless rather than searching.
But when I call someone, it does everything but complete the call. It just beeps twice and says 00:00.

Should I open the phone and pull the antennas closer together like I read in a thread on this forum?

That's the last resort my friend....when a doctor doesn't know what the patient has...he opens to see what's the problem .
This is something that you do it at your own risk, maybe you have some dirt inside that needs to be clean.
Good luck,
jockyw2001 says my IMEI is unlocked.
Hey guys,
I am now able to send texts. But I can't receive texts, make calls or receive calls.
any suggestions?
I filed a claim on eBay. That seems to be the best option.

Visual Voicemail

Hi All,
Just got my new Lumina after being with TMO and using a HD7. ATT is new to me so I was surprised when I had to set up the voicemail, then a password, then realized that unless you turn off your VM password, you have to enter it every time you call.
I also found out that Visual Voicemail is not standard which is a shame. I like it a lot better. There used to be a hack on the HD7 that would allow you to turn on the VVM. Is there anything like that for the Lumina?
TIA.

That didnt really help but thanks anyway. I just called ATT. Who knew that there was a data plan with and without VVM... They just changed the plan quickly. No change in minutes, price etc. Just had the wrong one.
Thanks all.

Hmmm, the first line in that post tells you to make sure you get a rep that knows how to provision your account. You called AT&T and finally got a rep that knew what they were doing... It got you going in the right direction it seems.

Yes it did get me going in the right direction to call customer support and again, thank you. I didn't mean to be rude or brush off your attempt to help.
Usually I do search and read hence the low number of posts in 6 years as a member but I obviously didnt get that the thread was telling me I should call customer service.
Maybe I should put it down to new toy syndrome...
Cheers.
