Learn to reverse ARM :) - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hi there guys,
as I've seen that a lot of you only "brew" OS.
Now it's time to leave the kindergarten and do real stuff that really helps the community in building and modding OS for future OS versions (and mobiles).
Take a look at :
http://forum.revskills.de/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=36
and learn basic stuff, to reverse and understand QC mobile firmware
And for all advanced ones, it is also wise to have a look at it, as it will hopefully improve your QC reversing a lot.
I plan on doing at least 10 tutorials on basic and advanced QC reversing,
including "hard" stuff like crypto algorithms.

i absolutly agree but what you are doing is the real kindergarten. http://www.hex-rays.com/idapro/ start learing idapro and to understand it and stop this useless post.
hamburg ist die macht ? nene =)

Well if it were just how to use IDA, I would agree.
But QC isn't any standard ARM for sure
I really guess that most don't even know what amss, rex is,
what standard algorithm qc uses or why there are any nvitems
Cya,
Viper BJK
P.S.: AlphaZero, Hamburg oder nicht Hamburg ist doch völlig Banane

okay i have no clue about it. how about u teach it to us with a tutorial so we can finally stop the kindergarden =)
ps: viper was bedeutet dieses BJK ? muss man das wissen ?

That's my intention.
For the next generation of QC we need more reversers and new ideas. Otherwise there might be no such thing as "hard-spl" anymore for new devices.
It's not against OS brewing itself, but we are in need of new QC reversers that help us in finding new solutions to new problems
Cya,
Viper BJK
P.S.: No comment

good stuff! I can also help with this..
for general ARM stuff, if anyone needs some nice ARM documents, I'm hosting a few on my server and can post links.
P.S.: I wish my german wasn't so rusty or I'd understand more of those lines

Hi there
Now I released the second tutorial in reversing, considering QC Standard Functions.
See the tutorial over there :

I haven't read the first one yet you swine
Good work & thanks...

HELMI_C how much $$$ do I need to raise to get your Widcomm/Broadcom stack?

Seriously, I will start collecting donations right now. So many of us need somthing to fix the bluetooth call clarity. I heard you have one but have not tested it enough etc...
How much $$$ or what will it take to get this from you????
Please Please respond helmi.
Just looking for a response from Helmi. If this wasnt such a problem for me I wouldnt be bumping this back to the top. Thanks for understanding everyone, Fish
take a look on the forum , and you will see that helmi_c has a lot of exam this week, he should be back on Friday so be patient
Is this something like my desperate postings and findings?
A re-development from the Hermes Widcomm release??
Would love if Helmi releases a working one for us. I'm in need of a better BT stack. Hate M$ stack!

Will this really enhance BT stack?
Could you pls write few words about what additional advantage we'll have from Widcomm/Boardcom stack? If there is a significant enhancement then surely we will all run for the same topic...

Read my thread in Accessories. It has linked threads about development etc.
THe Widcomm BT is very different, in my opinion. The features, quality and over all performance is way way higher than the crap MS one.
Noone can port widcomm BT stack to uni without having source code of several drivers. Otherwize you would not get BT headset/handsfree support.

well, maybe thats mean the developer hv done a lot of study with source code of several drivers and some more mod on it... mamaich didn't say its impossible, but its not an easy job... and as always, never hv doubt with mamaich...
btw I'll post Broadcomm 1.7.6.0500 for universal in sort time... Hopes it'll end up good... I've manage the headset/handsfree stuff now everything is route to handsfree... still testing...
In theory it should also work with HTC APACHE (6700).. I dont know and cant be sure..
oh my oh my, I knew Helmi had a surprise for the community............
Has a working broadcom stack on the universal for hands free = perfect.
All I use is the hands free for phone calls, I have never and will never use the universal as an MP3 for music so what you say you have already working is
PERFECT!!! for me, how much do you want to email it to me? I can paypal you. FISH

Tom Codon and Meschle Should Join Forces To make a Super Rom.

Hi,
I think tom and meschle should join forces, making a fast, well performing (meschle) rom with good applications with an awesome GUI (tom).
Tom's roms always have amazing bootscreens, themes, and an overall very nice GUI, whilst they lack performance.
Meschle's roms always perform well and are very fast, but they lack the visual aattractiveness as Tom's roms.
Therefore, combining the two would produce an all rounded super rom!
What do you all think?
you can do it, you re the man!
no not me, meschle and tom!
Agreed. But there would still have to be some compromises made as rom can't be 100% as beautiful as Tom's and 100% fast as Meschle's.
Whats wrong with the new Vanilla ? It is just perfect...
Just install HtcHome or what you prefer for your design change bootscreen if you like.
Can it be better ? I guess not
can't find the keyboard icon and skin as in B&B
I don't qgree with you uzzy.
First of all, they are not the only coockers.
More, everybody has its own style: you mention the main difference between these two one but the purpose is to have everybody having its onw "touch" in roms.
Even if it is WM, the coockers are not MS

I agree with you this sener.
I think it would be a lot more effective if we filles the wiki with so much useful information that everybody could cook his own ROMs. The only thing we might need is a kitchen with a better gui. I used both of their ROMs and like both for the stated reasons. Since I couldn't decide which to use I cooked my own ROM.
You'll have to spend about 50 hours of reasearch to be able to create your own version if you are a beginner, with a little help and a lot of computer experience you can handle it in 2 hours or less.
Fast and super stylish won't work, compare XP and Vista!

If you don't like it you don't have to use it, but why deny other people the opportunity to experience something new?
Just because you don't like the idea, doesn't mean you have use your first post ever to stop tom and meschle making a rom together......its their choice, not yours.
And also, where did i say they are the only cookers? - I didn't, so why say "First of all, they are not the only coockers". This fact is totally irrelevant.
I mentioned Tom and Meschle because they are the BEST cookers for Artemis (Not the only ones).
Oh and btw, learn to spell.
Well, they are the best cookers in this forum that publish their work. I'm pretty sure there are guys (or girls?) out there that laugh about the beginner mistakes people are making here.
I'm not saying that I'm better than any other cooker out there, but I never published any ROM for legal reasons and because I don't want 1000 questions/answers for each ROM I produce. No thanx, don't got the time.

I agree on this one!!
If somebody could provide a good kitchen with a better GIU, I would be able to learn to cook myself.
Now I just don't know how to start... you need to read/combine several threads to be able to get the info you need to start to learn...
If just some of those master cookers, can make a decent guide for us, we'll be able to do it ourselfs...
Hopefully one day somebody would do this guide and kitchen with a better gui, cause I really hope I can learn to cook
Believe me, cooking is not very difficult, (in my opinion) the Artemis' Wiki is crap if you are a beginner and want to learn to cook. I recently found out how this works and was amazed how fast you can cook a ROM. I'm currently busy at University but next week my tests are over and I will start creating my tutorials with pictures and videos.
You need HyperCoreKitchen, OK Package Creator and a official ROM, that's it. As soons as you know how to do it you can create your own ROM in minutes. I'll make a big thread out of it, you won't miss it.
I don't want to offend those who have spent a lot of time creating tutorials and writing into the wiki (thanx for your work guys!), but there are almost no all-in-one tutorials. I read in the Kaiser, Hermes, Artemis and some other wikis and forums to get all the informations I needed. Basically if you read the Hermes Cookbook and use OK Package Creator instead of doing all the package stuff it states there then you know what to do.

Ivan's School of Cooking - Sister Device

Hey guys. I'm an active user/cook for the Herald forums and I'd just like to extend this invitation to this forum. The Artemis and Heralds are not all that different and many things that can be done in one, can be done in both. If you've always wanted to learn how to cook, you're more than welcomed to go through my lessons. They are released randomly, but regularly. They will cover everything from the basics of knowledge to cooking, to advanced things like Hex editing ROMs for different reasons.
I might go through the lessons and reword them to allow for both Herald and Artemis instructions. For the most part, there's not much difference between them. Some different settings in the cooking tools, different base ROM's for your OEM folder, different kitchen versions, but all in all, it will work just the same.
Hope to see you there.
Nice One Ivanmmj, hope that your teachings will be as good as the roms you´ve been cooking for Herald, and why not making a "test drive" of your works for our Artemis?
Cheers.

I've thought about it several times, but since I tend to flash, test, and rebuilt many times while I perfect a ROM, it'd be hard for me to do so when I don't have an Artemis myself. I'm known for my slow release times due to my extensive testing. [And laziness... lol]

Maybe a Just2Clean version with baseapps, that´s UC capable??
I´m sure that some of us are eager to test a Just2Clean version on our Artemis.
I wouldn´t call it laziness, )), because the road to perfection is a long and hard one.
So keep up your good work.

Well, all my ROMs have been UC compatible since UC came out. The problem comes with the drivers and the base apps that are device specific. I could try, though... I just can't upload something unless it's perfect or at least until I can't find any obvious bugs.

Hey Walshieau; thanks for the dump.. seeing as it comes directly from the Diamond Project Team ROM, does that mean that it also has missing TF3D animations? (i.e. as there were alot of transition effects/animations that were removed from the DPT ROM). Cheers.

Thank walshieau, this will be useful for building my own PERSONAL rom which I've always done for years..... I did notice all the extra pieces of protection they had put in which to be honest is there choice and I can respect it in a way although protecting base rom's is something relatively new.
However the really sticking point with me is there's a whole thread on here about changing the graphics on the touchflo plug-in which no one from the "Diamond Project Team" as donated any information to even though we can cleary see they have achieved this with their V1 rom which is a real shame. Maybe they choose to do this to give there roms the edge?
Please please don’t take my comments the wrong way I’m really not trying to flame ANYONE out there, I’m just posting my personal opinions as I rush back to behind my fire proof shield J lol

the effects are "Action Scripts"... I dont care for these "protections", i dont see why, we are all part of the same community. But meh.
Yes, all this protection stuff got really bad... anyway, I'm inversing so much time to patch dll's of my ROMs that I don't want other to use it, so I made sure it is not possible that easy, sorry...
But protecting the base ROM is not one of my interest, so I'll try to upload the 1.93 OS this evening.

As at the end of the day I will refuse to use any such ROM. And I really don't care as there will be others such as Walshieau that make quality stuff and I will wait for that. Personally it seems daft to add protection to a cooked rom but I also appreciate the time and effort these guys put into their work, then someone else comes along and rips it off. So, I can understand people want to protect their work. Bluetooth progress on kaiser

Hi there, title says all, what is the current state of Bluetooth development on kaiser?
As long as I remember there is no developement for Kaiser BT.
When dzo made BT work for Vogues he said that it is not so difficult to do it for Kaiser, just the appropriate GPIOs and i2c have to be get and changed in kernel but nobody from us has that knowledge to work with Haret and detect the addresses for BT.
If we ask politely dzo maybe he will get the addrs and set up the kernel for us.
I believe we have lost all of our hard-core dedicated developers to other phones

You are right, but the kernel developers are really low numbered.
I have also bought new phone, but still have my Kaiser and trying to help with what I can.
Maybe it is not to hard for porting if we know what kind of BT chip is on Kaiser.I beleave that HTC use same BT chip on several phones

as much as my wife tells me I look like an ass with the bluetooth headset in my ear. I use it all the time, at home, work, and especially in the car.
not sure if there is a work around. but until there is bluetooth I can't go nand.
which really sucks because I am beginning to hate haret.
I wish I were smarter I would like to help.
BTW the camera sucks anyway. definitely not a big deal.
Well tbh camera seems easier at this point, since it does work in donut at least, however bluetooth does not work in anything other than native android devices at present, if there were a breakthrough in bluetooth in another device then there would be more hope, but at present, if you don't have an android phone, you don't have bluetooth.
In the last 4 moths I have seen android on kaiser go from an ugly mess of hacks and patches, to an almost complete mobile OS, one step at a time, I suspect bluetooth will be the very last thing to get fixed.
BT works on Android ports for RAPH/DIAM and kind of on Vogue. We all have the same chip, there is more hope than you describe. Come hang out in #htc-linux on freenode if you want to give it a try for Kaiser.

Reread my post, guess it did come across a little negative, lol, I only meant that the relative amount of work involved was greater for bluetooth, and I expect it to take longer than camera to get it to a stable stage in it's evolution.
Bt works on Diam100? Damn I shoulda kept hold of mine instead of loaning it to my daughters BF after his g600 took a bath in the washing machine
