Im halfway to universal heaven - but help needed :-)

I have a new T-Mobile Universal (MDA Pro) which I think I have unlocked (courtesy, donation and kind thanks going to Buzz and the gang in appreciation).
My device information now reads as follows:
ROM version: 1.20.32 WWE
ROM date: 11/16/05
Radio version: 0.00.00
Protocol version: 42.37.P8
ExtROM version: 1.20.120.WWE
I had the lastest T-mobile ROM prior to unlocking but now I appear to have 0.00.00 radio.
Question is this: what now?
1. What ROM would you recommend? I have poor reception so am biased towards a quality signal grabber (if that makes sense lol)
2. Where do I get the recommended ROM (from the FTP here? I tried to register on i-mates download site but it rejected by IMIE)
3. Last but not least (and probably most importantly)how do I update the ROM? Do I need to update my bootloader before flashing the ROM?
Please help because I do not want to push my luck and bork my wee pride and joy :shock:

Tmobile NL ROM is good IMO. It's on FTP and has the 1.01 bootloader upgrade.

M8!.... and if you read the forum a bit more you will find what you need.....
If you unlocked your pda then you should be able to fully upgrade your rom since its the same way you done the first half of the unlocking ... use the no_id file instead of the original one and its always best to put the pda into bootloader mode first.
You can also only upgrade the radio to 109 withouth messing around with reinstalling stuff that you had (if any)...
I could keep on in regards to this m8 but i would only be telling you what i read during my searches on this forum... if you get my drift :wink:

Problem is I have confused myself by reading too much
Can I use the Tmobile NL ROM even though I use ENGLISH?
Do i need to do any preparatory work to use the 1.01 bootloader?
How do I upgrade?
* unpack new ROM to folder on desktop computer
* copy MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to same folder
* remove SD czrd
* open activesync on desktop and uncheck "Allow USB connections"
* enter bootloader mode by simultaneously pressing backlight key/power key/and soft reset
* plug USB cable into universal/dwsktop
* run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe on desktop
* wait 5 seconds following a prompt showing olf/new ROM bfore pushing upgrade button.
* donot disturb anything whilst updating.
* click Ok button when 100% complete shows.
* do hard reboot (by pressing the two -- buttons/reset key)
* press button 0 when prompted and follow normal instructions
Is this correct? if so .. any other ROMS recommended ?

Bob,
The instructions are correct. The latest Qtek ROM (WWE version) is quite good - supporting AUK2 and A2DP Bluetooth profile.

Thanks Richard - it is very reassuring to have someome look at what your going to do to make sure you got it right.
Out of interest, since unlocking my universal and thereby acquiring radio 0.00.00, does my phone stay unlocked even though I will be upgrading radio as part of my general ROM upgrade? My phone still works under radio 0.00.00 so i assume that although it is 0.00.00 it still retains all phone functionality?

BOB..... just apgrade the rom and plz stop backtracking the thread!
As already posted here and also tested myselfe.... the phone will stay unlocked forever even after rom upgrades!
Also as posted by others..... if you keep radio on 0.00.00 it will give poor eficiency.
So.... just go ahead and upgrade the rom..... my personal advice would be as Rich said... use the latest qtek rom (not the one with wwe twice on the filename).

Im sorry if my post has offended your greatness and thereby warranted your abrasive post. I was under the misapprehension that I could feel free to express my technical problem in the best manner I could. Obviously you feel otherwise. Bob,
After the upgrade, it is recommended that you flash the original radio stack back on - I personally recommend the radio 1.09 as it seems to work best in the UK; later versions such as ver. 1.11 have been reported as unstable in the UK.

As GPS is not currently widely avaliable I will not be spending time on it.

They forgive, but after all already hard is corrected with hard reset

I don't remember WM5 having this but yes apparently with WM6 you can increase Free Storage Memory by stripping out files.
I noticed this when after I embedded Adobe Acrobat. That is why I released two Roms. I actually flashed an older (RTM) WM6 Rom which had an insane amout of Free Storage Memory, like 62mb but there were no office files and I didn't bother looking into that else was missing...
Still planning on a clean Rom. I want to let this one run for a few days first to see if I broke anything new in it . The Beta team didn't find anything major or new but we only ran on it for a few days so that you guys could get your hands on it.

For some reason It will not let me flash my T-Mobile UK Vario2 to your 0.20.
The program detects my current ROM, then when I click "Update" it says "Verifying the information on your Hermes" for around 30 seconds. After that an error prompt saying "Error 260 : Update Error"....
Any Ideas?

Resolved, needed to remove security pin. May be useful for other users to do the same who have problems...

[Q] Help, blocked at boot after installing custom Rom

Form some month, I was usingthis rom on my htc touch pro2: RUU_Rhodium_S2_HTC_FRA_2.07.406.1_Radio_Rhodium_4.49.25.91_Signed_Ship
Thanks to this web xda helping me to install this rom instead of the one comming with my orange (french mobil phone operator).
Then, due to personnal reason I had to re-install an old rom from my operator:
_HTC Touch Pro2_WM6.5_RUU_Rhodium_S_Orange_FR-B2B_1.90.73.1_Radio_Rhodium_4.49.25.17_Signed_Ship
Untill this point, I did not get any trouble.
But this morning i tryed to install the Energy Rom:

Just hold voldown key while resetting your phone and flash new ROM, preferably the stock one .

Yep, upgrade from sd-card worked perfectly.
As a reminder:
- choose the rom you want to install.
- extract the .nbh file from the rom.
- rename this file into "RHODIMG.NBH" and place it at root on your sd-card.
- Soft-reset your htc TP2 while pressing "power" and "VolDown".
You will get the nice red/green/blue screen (keep pressing) then, a grey screen asking you if you wanna install RHODIMG.nbh.
- release both buttons and press "power", to install
- or press "volDown" to cancel .
Every thing is right now.

I believe Orange France is a GSM network and you tried to install a CDMA ROM. Go here for the GSM version of the Energy ROM.

I think you'll enjoy it. I use the 21680 CHT and am quite pleased with it.

Not heard of this device. Perhaps a chinese copy of HD2.
OK, found something. It runs on Android, so you can only run Android apps. BTW what exactly you mean when you say things needed?

Need to se is it last SW, and need GPS for this phone.CoPilot Live- not work on this device !!

It runs 2.2 (as mentioned on the web), I don't have any idea if it can be upgraded, as you may know 2.2 isn't the latest version.
For GPS, you can check its specs if it has GPS or not, if yes then you can install the apps from the market otherwise perhaps connect an external GPS, although I am not sure weather an external will work or not.

since it is running android, so the compatible android apps should run on it, but since its a Chinese clone, no guarantees.
You can trying looking at other android phones by HTC or some other brand, to be safe.

Go to YGPS
Wait for the green satellites appear.
Go to NMEA Log
Click "save" wait 5 minutes and then click "stop". Repeat the process after 1 hour.

The problem is that I have no signal bada 2.0. but when wanting to pass me da bada 1.2 ERROR ERASE: in BOOTLOADER, APPS - Rsrc1 and CSC. attempt to install over 10 firmware and could not always gives me this error. please if anyone knows help me thank you with all my heart! thank you! First of all check that if your phone is locked to your network Because if your phone is locked to your operator than you will not be able to use open region firmwares and you will not get any signal.So check and then update here so we can help you better.

If you bought your phone from Argentina, most likely it is s8500L.
So may be the problem is in the proper firmware.
If I'm right, you can get the right one from sammobile website:

The phone is released. I can put any firmware 1.2 and it takes me the signal. the problem is now 2.0, and bada got no signal I take what I want to do is re-bada 1.2 but will not let me, I get ERROR ERASE at the boot, apps, Rsrc1 and FOTA. and will not let me install any firmware Argentina (L) because it gives me this error. and more than 10 firmwares probe and 3 different computers and I get the same error .. you would know that this error or to fix it?. Thank you very much for your help!

Try one of the indian firmware its a old firmware try ddjk3 from asian version. Use v5.65 of multiloader. And after a successfull flash just flash again the version u want. Please check boot change and full download. Don not tick master rom. See if this helps you this is tested by me as once the same problem happened to me.

it's old one but great ... she helped me alot
if it still doesn't help - flash only the boot files - separately
let the device do restart and only reEnter download mode
and flash the other files ....
P.s very important - full download & LIS in multiloader
try to use ver 5.65 not the 5.67
make sure that your pc is not busy and that you have sufficient battery

This is S8500. and is loaded to the maximum (which is left over when flash bada 2.0) but I can not flash bada 1.2 and 1.0.
You've tried all the files separately by a full flash and low but the same thing. I always throw the same error. Multiolader already tested with 6.62 and 5.65 and the pc without aplicasiones open.
Probe with more than 10 firmwares and none let me.

adfree a question. is possible to merge the bada ams.bin 1.2 with 2.0?
Since doing that I think I may have a sign. I saw many users in Argentina had the problem of not having signal bada 2.0.
They are very different both AMS.bin?. merge is too complicated to operate the signal?

I'm using only Multiloader 5.67 if I play with bada 2.0...

Also for downgrade from 2.0 to 1.x I use only 5.67 to prevent "funny" phenomenons...

I use multiloader v5.65 and it works flawlessly when i do upgrading or downgrading on bada 2.0. I am having windows 7 32 x86-32 bits.
So adfree i think its not mandatory to use only v5.67 infact v5.65 works better and error free. But may be different person have different choices

I had simmilar isue (exept signal problem) while tried to downgrade S8500OXAKK7 2.0 to original Croatian 1.2 S8500XXKF3_S8500OXFKA1_TRA.
1st I had to flash Arabic S8500JPJG2. Worked fine for me! All done with MultiLoader v.5.65

Maybe ...
Try to flash to original beta rom of bada 2.0
but an earlier ver like :
S8500XPKH1 ## 2.0 2011 August S8500OXAKH1 Open Europe
and than try to downgrade
