Anyone come across this issue before?
My Universal works when there is no SIM card, boots OK & doesn't crash. No problem when I'm at work or home, but no use when I'm on the road.
When I put a SIM into it I have serious issues booting up, having constantly to soft reset until it works. And when it does boot up OK it doesn't last for long before hanging - needing another hit & miss session of soft resets.
Is this indicative of a motherboard issue, or a radio issue?
I have tried several different ROMS (WM5,6,6.1), tried altering the PP setting (currently 8), tried different radio's (1.17 and 1.18)
have you tried different SIM card, or putting SIM into a 'normal' phone?
SIM works in Motorola KRZR ok.
Will try another SIM in the Universal & post the results.
An alternate SIM works better, but does not appear to be 100%.
I have checked the phone, it is SuperCID.
Have used mtty and task 28 55aa to wipe the memory, no errors reported.
Have dropped back to radio 1.15
This is a SIM issue, not a Uni issue.
I will try to get a replacement from my provider.
Thanks JonMorgan for pointing me in the right direction.

Maybe bad connection on your sim card?
Try removing the SIM card and put it back in, and then boot the phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
done that, doesn't help
Im getting hte same issue. The 4.0.2 update came through, rebooted the phone. SIM not found, press to reboot....
Rebooted, SIM still not working. remove SIM and replace. Still not working. replaced with another SIM. Still not working.
Was working fine prior to the 4.0.2 update. This is on a 1 month old phone that has never been rooted. It is still as stock as it comes out of the box... And i want to test it more before i start boxing it up to send it back...
Have you tried leaving the battery out for a bit, then trying powering it up again?
Here is where it gets weird. I tried 2 other sim cards as well as my own. none of them worked. put my sim card back in and tried again, still not working. turned it off over night. went to Vodafone and asked if i could try a new SIM in the phone. still not working. put my TPG/Optus sim in and it started working. got a new SIM from Voda, transfered all the account info to the new card, waited an hour and tried it again and now it works :/
Dont know what caused it to stop working and dont know what caused it to start working again :/ im going to throw the word "Vodafone" in there as the cause because people will just nod their head and say... "yep, that was probably it..."
I have the same issue with AT&T....the phone does recognize the SIM, APN and all...but no signal. Just once in a while it gets registered on teh network, but for one minute or so...I don't know what to do
Same issue here, after a reboot my phone does not recognize my sim at all. no signal at all. tried a different sim, nothing, bought a new sim but nothing again, returned to stock, everything, but still nothing....no remedy yet....
I've had my Desire since it came out but a problem has just come up: the phone will shut down whenever the SIM card is inserted. Without it it'll work fine, but if i put it in, when it boots, as soon as it tries to connect to the network it'll shut down. I've tried a different SIM card and the problem is the same.
This started by using MIUI but i've clean installed a CM7 based rom and the problem is still there.
My phone is out of warranty so taking it in is not worth it.
Thanks
Did you try to flash a new radio.img?
No i havn't, i, rather stupidly, hadn't thought of that..... i guess i thought that when i flashed a new rom i'd get a new radio!
When you run RUU you get a new radio, but ordinary custom roms don't have that option.
I flashed the latest radio and the problem remains the same.........:crying:
Any other ideas?!
Then it's probably a hardware issue. You can try to disassemble it and try to fix connectors.
I'm now completly los now; the phone switches off with 3 different sim cards but not witha forth!!! I'll have the SIM card replaced even though it does work fine in my HTC ChaChaCha........
Very strange!
Thanks for your help anyway, it's obviously got to do with the card and not the phone so i guess the solutions been found!!
I have had the same problem, until yesterday. I'm running a cooked ICS ROM, and the issue has gone as soon as I have switched to a newer RIL. So don't take it for granted that it's a hardware issue or SIM-related. Hope this helps.

My help
you just have to activate the pin code on security and location setting
but the SIM card must be inserted to activate the pin code
If you never activate the pin code, then the default code is usually 0000
if the phone is turned off before you have to get to the temp setting reply me and i'll tell u what to do
If it worked for u don't forget to hit thanks
hi, first of all: I have been searching for solution to this problem for ages but the problem still persists
I bought the phone a while ago, worked pretty much perfect, I experienced some random signal lost but right after restarting or some minutes the signal went back, so after some months and after changing my phone screen my signal disappeared completly It once worked with my friend's sim card but just with that card and just one time, I tried differente sim's and operators but got no sucess, the phone recognizes the sim but the signal strenght is null (X)
I already tried the following options:
reset
hardreset
5 different roms (cyanogen, and some stock 975/977 roms)
flashing another modem
4 differente sim's
didnt tried anything related to the kernel, this may solve my problem? seens like my problem is related to hardware problems, I dont know..
additional info: my imei is not blocked or N/A but my phone cant recognize my sim number
Additional info: on the fastboot menu the baseband is "N/A", is that value normal?
Thanks in advance:
For the last two weeks i have to enable and then disable Flightmode after i restart my phone.
If i don't enable/disable Flightmode after a restart there is no data avalibel.
The same when i flash a new Rom, i can't activate my Google account during initial setup, cos there is no data.
I think it might have somthing to do with my sim card, since the problem is there with all the different Rom's i try.
Any ideas to what's wrong and why?
Sounds like a Sim issue, or carrier issue... Or less likely, phone hardware. Focus on those things first.
?
Definitely sounds like a Sim
AT&T HTC ONE M8
Try removing your sim card and insert it back in to see how
I had this happen after restoring a nandroid backup of an old version of ViperOne.
Full Wipe + Clean Flash fixed it.
Got a new SimCard and the problem is gone.
A colleague tried my old SimCard and he also had the problem on his phone with that simcard.
hi
I have a very annoying problem whit the sim slot 1 (i currently test the slot 2)
Very often, the phone tell me "Sim card not detected", and i have to open the phone, dismount the card and put in again.. until the next time.. like i said, it's occurs very often, 10-15 a day..
Even when the phone is on the table without touching it..
I have rooting it and thats it.. 2.19.40.22
I would like to know if someone have similar problems before i try to reflash whit older stock rom??!
It happened to me briefly- After flashing my first full back -up back to the fone --then i did a factory reset and this fixed the sim slot problem

Hi, I think i have the same problem after testing the Cyanogen build for ZE551ML. Have you did a factory reset from recovery (wipe data, cache and dalvik) or a full stock rom flash ?
Thanks
Above, I was referring to the full 5gb asus ROM back up I made immediately after unlocking bootloader installing twrp and rooting, I installed svn ROM and backed that up too..stripped svn ROM further..backed that up too. Then went about trying my Asus full original...sim 2 was only detected..so did a factory reset and sim came back.
To get sim recognised in CM,I had to wipe usual..install..set up...and factory reset it...hope that clears it up a bit lol

Oh,try a reboot after factory reset..I forgot to put in description above
Guys can you check your sim holder lock . I mean when you put the sim in holder check if it is properly fitted. Issue is some SIM cards are thinner than normal and sim holder unable to grip it. I faced same issue.
Also recommend using ASUS ZenUI app called ASUS Support. There are several helpful tips with basic troubleshooting techniques for your device including including SIM card troubleshooting. Please go to Apps/ASUS Support/Assistance/SIM Card/Sim card not detected

Sim Card not detected
Hey guys,
I am having a similar issue. I have 2 Sims, AT&T and GCI (local carrier). AT&T Sim works in both Slot 1 & 2, and GCI Sim works in slot 2 only. The AT&T sim is a standard MicroSim and the GCI sim is a Tri-Cut sim, so basically a NanoSim in a Micro Adapter.
Sometimes when the GCI Sim is in slot 1, it will recognize for a couple seconds then go gray..

I subscribe to the "theory" that some SIM cards are thinner than others and they drop out of slot 1.
In fact, I have 3 SIM cards and they range in thickness by around 0.5mm according to my cheap chinese mircometer. I don't believe that it is coincidence that the thinner ones lose SIM detection more than the thicker ones.
Also it is no coincidence that slot 2 doesn't lose detection becuase the SIMs don't slide upwards out of slot 2, but they do slide downwards out of slot 1.
Do this experiment: Put a SIM in each slot, now place a 3rd SIM in the space between the two. You will notice that it sits easily in the gap between the two installed SIMs with a bit of free play. Put the back cover back on and use the phone normally for a while (a day or two). Now take off the phone back and tip the phone over, does the "third" SIM fall on the floor, or has it been gripped by the SIM in slot 1 as it has gradually slid out of its slot?
Since I put one layer of sellotape on the back of all my SIMs, I have not had one single "SIM not installed" message. I used to get them all the time, especially with one of the thinner SIMs in slot 1 and above all when using the phone in the car (the fully vertical position and the vibrations seemed to have accelerated the SIM slipping out of its slot).
By the way, I never had the SIM slide completely out, but they certainly are not gripped sufficiently in place and slip enough to disconnect.
I had same "sim card 1 not detected" issue.
It worked back when i did soft reboot,.
And no more issue after factory reset
Re @ leftrand earlier on page 1.....
Sorry not been here in a while , but I think this was related to an earlier twrp we used , fixed with the later one I think. So it was a matter of restoring full original bk up,then factory reset then set up again and do another bk up. Keeping original bk up just in case . That was a while back now and should be fixed
facing same problem... only after updating ota. always.. sim 1 is not detected...

That no way to have a sim 1 working thru TWRP back up after flashing the CM13. What I did was doing a clean flash with SuperZen - 2.20.40.156 Full.
The problem was solve. then I flash back my back up TWRP. The phone now work like a charm.

I got it fixed bro! the phone does not like the Nano sim cards in the adapter. I happend to find an old GCI micro sim and had them activate it. works great now.
ok i found a solution. i read a earlier reply saying you cannot assess sim 1 whilst using a recovery back up flashed. i was currently using cm13 nightlys and this morning i flashed paranoid 5.1 or so.... i wanted to go back and compare the two but what i did was restore it from a backup.... so what you should do is when wanting to change roms, KEEP THE ZIP FILES THAT YOU USE TO FLASH THE ROMS WITH!!!!!!!!!!!! im still asking you to back up roms (preferably system before you flash) just so you dont hard brick it.
bottom line is back up rom, but keep zip files for when you want to change between roms. hope i can help
I have this problem, compounded by the fact that it seems all Android 6.0 (or possibly all CM based ROMs for the ZenFone?) have an issue where losing cell signal in a dead zone permanently breaks the radio until the device is rebooted. Even if the SIM is recognized, after going through a no signal area, the signal never gets acquired again and the SIM information lines remain blank or unknown. Trying to refresh the networks or providers list throws an error toast.
