Retaining the BlueAngel or Not

I have a strange question.I have had the BA for about a year and a half. I am very much satisfied with the device. But now I want to change the device. I searched the net, but nothing seemed much impressive than the BA. ( may be because I like big screen). And I definitely need a quadband model,Please help me decide on this subject.

Well I have had a few problems with my BA and I have decided to get a Jasjam (Tytn) I think it is the best phone on the market. I have searched through all the WM5 devices and Symbian devices and out of them all the Jasjam is the best.

I have upgraded from the MDAII to the MDA Vario II and I am really pleased. Although the screen is smaller it is easier to hold and therefore much more usable. The only thing bugging me is that it does have a smaller internal memory than the BA. You have been warned.

TyTN II VS TyTN

Can anyone can confirm if the TyTN II is faster then the TyTN or they perform about the same?

Tytn2 is much slower. I sent the tytn2 back and kept my Jasjam. You would be typing an email and the letters would appear like 2 or 3 seconds later and thats not long after a reboot not to mention the difficulty you will have actually pressing the keys on the tytn2's stiff keyboard.

First time hearing that TYTN II is slower. It could be because of ROM .. .You could try some of the custom made ROM s . THey are faster.
Another reason is due to the absent drivers for certain modules in the handset.
THese issues should be solved by early next year when WM 6.1 version is released.

Thanks for the quick replys! I currently have the TyTN... I'm ok with it... but may want to upgrade (GPS, 3MP, ...) but I was curious about the performance between them... if we can see a difference...

I have both, TYTN II is much zipper, check some of the new cooked roms (vs. the bloated operator ROMS), TYTN II is much faster than TYTN.

Hah I was just thinking about this... Is the difference worth your while? I've got an excellent little GPS receiver so that is not an issue... But what are the main differences in daily use? Just zippier?

Depends on what kind of apps/how many your running on your phone. The extra storage means you can have a lot of apps on your internal rom (vs SD card). I have a lot of apps on my phone and now I have them on internal memory vs my sd card, this has resulted in dramatically improved performance of the programs I used to keep on my sd card. For the programs that I used to keep on internal storage I would say the speed is faster (depending on the app) but it is not as dramatic. In general the device is smaller, faster, the built in GPS is nice (though for you I guess it would not make a difference), and the tilt screen is neat but not a major breakthrough, imho.
All in all if your happy with the Hermes the Kaiser is not going to revolutionize your world, that said the tilt (att branded kaiser) is $ 175 on amazon right now so its not like you'll have to pay an arm and a leg for it (at least in the U.S. I'm not sure about Poland, if I had to pay $ 600+ for the device I would not have gotten it).
As another note a lot of the ROM cooks are moving to the kaiser so new ROMS for the hermes are going to become less frequent. Hope this helps your decision.

Not much smaller; it is slighlty thinner, and slightly longer.

As for me, I would buy the TyTn IIonly if I had not a TyTn already. TyTn II has:
--more memory (not really that useful I believe)
--screen can be adjusted liek a laptop (must be nice?)
--GPS (if you need it; I got a BT GPS that works perfect with my TyTn)
--3 MP camera, but the same crappy lense, so that can harldy be called an improvement.
Conclusion: I won't buy a TyTn II, unless I find myself with an extra cash, or get a great deal.

My boss bought himself a Tytn II, because he got jealous of my Tytn . Played around a little with it. It's indeed faster and it has GPS. But that's about it. For my use the memory in my Tytn is sufficient. The Tytn II lacks the flashlight (that i use as a torch) and i don't like the shining finish (but that's taste).
So for now, i'll just stick with my Tytn.
Edit: the tilting screen is more a gadget than a usefull thing, in my opinion.

Personally I feel that there is too little difference in the two to have me switch. I will probably wait untill the next evolution of the TyTN will get here.

yep thinner but it weighs more, you defintely notice it when you hold it, feels... solid.

TYTN II much better, faster, reliable, more prgram memory so no more soft resets, less freezes. htc tytn ii got a strong nice and better look to it, sold my hermes and never regretted.
also with these cooked roms coming out which makes hermes crawl against it.

I used a TyTn II and I own a TyTn.
IMO:
- TyTn with a good cooked ROM can have about 28Mb of free RAM which lets you do about anything. Unless you need every single program on memory all the time, rarely you will deal with lack of RAM (I only lack memory IF I load a web page with lots of full size images)
- TyTn II screen rotation (or elevation) seems to leave less space for fingers on keypad. On my TyTn I don´t have this feeling (I feel good) but on TyTn II it does!
- TyTn II is indeed an evolution but not a revolution.
For people who are going to buy a new PDA (because don´t have/have an old one) and have to choose between a 600€ TYTN II or a 500€ TYTN perhaps it´s better to choose TYTN II.
If you own a TYTN keep it. TYTN is about as fast as a TYTN II and you will only miss the integrated GPS, nothing else.

I'd like to see some benchmarcks with Sktools, Coreplayer.. TyTN vs TyTN 2,, Could someone post some scores?

If TyTN II had a GoForce chip, it will no longer be an argument. But for now, stick with TyTN.

I got my tilt for 100 from at&t direct (i was real lucky ) My dad is now going to get my 8525. I can tell it is a bit faster, there are some quirks I'm still dealing with, but that is what you get with a new device that the cooks are just digging into. As more ROMs come out it is only going to get better and better. For my situation the built in gps, autofocus on the camera, and added memory/speed were money very well spent. It does weigh a little more, but I think it makes it feel more solid (in a good weigh (pun intended)) To me it does feel noticiably slimmer, but that's just me. I might have paid up to 175 or so to upgrade, but honestly not more than that. If I was buying brand new I'd go for it.

If money is an issue definatly not worth the upgrade. I hate the fact that it doesnt have a flash, I dont use my for pics but as a flashlight. I will probably get one but will wait for the price to come down. I hate contracts and havent had one for years. I just wish HTC would come out with a better phone and just ditch the TYTN style. I want a screen size of the iphone with a qwerty and atleast a 500mhz processor as well as 256 and 128 if not more like 512 and 256!!!! and they need to come out with some better ions I mean 1500mah just doesnt cut it. A slimer version of the flame with a qwerty and wm6 would be a dream right now.

Excalibur vs. Prophet

Hi Guys,
I know it's not an exact comparison, but I was wondering if anyone has any opinion on whether or not Windows Mobile is any "faster" on Excalibur (because it's the smartphone edition), or if it's exactly the same?
Both devices run the same CPU and memory so I'm curious if WM6 smartphone edition is a little better optimized or not.
Just so you know, I currently own an HTC Prophet and am on the brink of ordering an excalibure as a replacement. I don't want to do it if the performance is pretty much the same.

I'm not sure what the performance is like for the two devices, but why don't you go for the S630 cavalier instead of the S620 excalibur?

The cavalier isn't available from my cell provider. =( unfortunately, Canadian cell companies suck like that.

And that's stopping you from getting one.... why ?

Rofl.. we're not all made out of cash... I'd rather get a subsidized phone from my Cell Provider than fork out a huge amount of cash for a phone. =)
Plus I already paid in full for my HTC prophet.. not going to make that mistake again...

I do not know but from my experience there is less stuff loaded in the smartphone edition. WM Smarphone editions (well I have only used the dash smartphone actually) seem fast as hell to me with wm6 and is even better with 6.1. It depends on what you need as the smarphone editions don't have as much software as the regular versions. Of course there is that no touchscreen thing.
Size is what sold me. The dash is so friggin tiny. I work in IS at a hospital and have tried every ATT phone there is (Friend works with the cell phones and lets me play with the new ones). I really like the Tmobile dash out of all of them (plus tmo is cheaper and they aren't assholes). It has everything you want except for GPS and 3g. Has a decent camera 1mp nice in outdoors stationary (only thing I really want upgraded on the dash). Battery on normal use gets like 3-4 days (browsing web on opera mini 1/2hr day [pages take 1~2 seconds to load under edge], 10 minutes talk). If you don't use it at all on standby using newest radio update and whatnot it lasts ~5 days (make sure data is off when not using it). Playing back music with backlight off (GSplayer) ~5 hours (no normal headjack pisses me off, can get
adapter,included headphones are suprisingly good.)
The updates that you can get for this phone are amazing. This thing has gone from wm5 to 6.1 and looks great. I have had mine for a year and is still in perfect shape. Never had any problems with my dash.

I think it all comes down to what your using the device for. With the new 6.1 roms both devices will be snappier than before with better stability, and battery life. I recently dug out my Excalibur due to an itch to flash Rickwyatt's redone Kavana rom and I am VERY impressed. It's not only much more responsive but the interface looks great! good job Rick!
Comparing the Excalibur to my Herald which runs @ the same cpu speed, honestly feels about the same, but keep in mind the user experience on these devices although both powered by WinMo, is completely different. The Excalibur for example is much MUCH easier to use in the car for example, especially one handed. Capability wise the touch screen devices win hands down! Good luck!

TP2 vs TP

I am still having hard time deciding which one to get, being still a TyTN/Hermes user I have no problem with the small screen so the screen size is not a factor in deciding. I kinda tried the TP and I couldn't get used to the keyboard feeling (oh well I have only played with it for 20 minutes).
Are there any TP users that upgraded to TP2?
What made you upgrade and what do you think about both phones.

I gaurantee you that the Touch Pro2 has a better keyboard than the predecessor. Besides the only downgrade from the first Touch Pro is that the Touch Pro2 lacks flash led for the camera.

I bought a TP2 one month ago. Coming from a Hermes
At the begining I prefered my hermes keyboard... Now after a month I tried back my Hermes... and definitely the TP2 keyboars is much better
Anyway I love the TP2, you wont regret it

TP2 the best phone ever.
Came from a Kaiser and very happy with it. The only problem I have is batt life, but it seems not related to the phone itself, but with the operator. I still don´t know the reason, but when I use Vivo my batt lasts 50 to 60% less (half a day sometimes). If I use another operator, batt lasts up to 2 days.
Already tested with Tim, Claro and Oi. Great batt life with all of them, except Vivo.

So the TP2 has less physical ram? which is hardware related?
Also is it true that the US units dont do EU/ASIA 3G and vice-versa?

I had (still have) a tytn/hermes. I wen't to the TP2. It's soo much better. Maybe you don't catre about the screen size, but you will care about the resolution. The agenda is much better to use for example because more text is visible.
The phone is really fast. My colluege HAD the touch pro. The problem was the short lived battery, (would make is just 24 hours), it got stuck many times, was slow, and just wasn't convinient to use. At least she sais. (she had a lot more trouble then that). So now she switched to a simple nokia phone.
The fun part is, when I told het I would buy the second version of the TP, the TP2. She laughed a bit and said I would be sorry. Now, she is jealouse :'D.
There is a big diffrence between the phones. The feel, the experience, how convinient it is.
On the hermes it's irritating to read emails, or documents that are longer then a few lines. Now I have the TP2 and I love it. Also internet has become much much faster. This is probably because of the processing power.
One thing I was afraid of was the lack of buttons. No jogwheel, of Dpad. Hermes had both.
I honestly have to say, I had to get used to it. But after one day, I was using the TP2 easier then my hermes. Also, the TP2 seems to weigh less and is nicer to hold while making a phone call.
Frankly the tilt is nice to have, but I would have bought it if it wouldn't have the tilt. Is just really good.
I'm not saying you should buy it, but for the record, if I had to choose between a TP and my hermes. I would choose my hermes. That's what I think from the TP. But only held it for an hour or so. The TP2 is actually a lot better

TP2 better keyboard layout and feel, miss the d-pad of TP thou....

My only concern is the 3G
I travel a lot between europe and USA; I have simcards for a few countries that all support 3G.
But from what I heard the phone does not do EU 3G if its a US and vice versa any comments on that?

I also travel a lot México-Europe and my Universal works great on Europe 3G but not in México (Same bands as in USA)
I think it will be the same with TP2 unfortunately

Uprading from the TYTN II

I have had the TYTN II for the past year and a half and now I can upgrade my phone. I have narrowed the choice down to the Touch Pro 2 as it seems like the next logical step and the Hero with Android, but I was put off by the fact that there is still no screen drivers for this for the QUALCOMM chip ( the same as it was with the TYTN II ).
I am used to having a brick of a phone so the size is not that big an issue. Is the screen an issue like it was on the TYTN II, as some games required you to touch the screen to control, the TYTN II at least had the pad for control, but this isn't present on the Touch Pro II so the screen is the only input method ( other than the keyboard ).
I primarily use the phone as a phone, MP3 player and to play Divx via core player I also play the odd game as I have a long train trip in the mornings and evenings. I ruled the Hero out at this point as I cant seem to find a decent Divx player like Core Player on the Windows mobile.
The other question I wanted to know is, what is the screen like when viewing in the daylight. The TYTN II gets washed out and I end up cupping my hands over the screen to unlock it ( the screen really dims when locked ) Is it viewable without having to set the brightness up to full... I have a Blackberry 8820 and than can be used in the daylight no problem.
Does anyone know how the battery life also compares to the TYTN II with roughly the same usage ?

Previous to my Rhodium (TP2) I had a TyTn II.
Currently im loving my TP2, the brightness isnt an issue as it has a light sensor so adjusts accordingly and does a good job of it.
The screen is awesome, IMO much better than the one on TyTn II.
I have tried two 3d games on my Touch Pro 2, however i do have Neo beat direct3d (??? correct me if im wrong) drivers installed, and both games seem to run flawlessly.
Battery life is my only issue, it seems my TyTn II was better, however, admittedly, I have yet to fully charge it since I bought it on Saturday, its only had random charges.
Overall, im very impressed with the device and to me its definatly superior to the TyTn II and worth the upgrade

That's too bad to hear about the battery. I'm upgrading from the TyTn II as well (how many of us are there..?) and it's in the mail so I haven't gotten a chance to check out all of it yet (hard to tell with a store model)

Like many, I've also upgraded from the TYTNII to the TP2. Awesome device and much better than the TYTNII in every way possible.
(also very proud to say to I've converted 2 iCrap admirers to TP2s...)

yes, it's the logical step and yes i was tytn ii user (and two others beforehand)
and i can testify that tp2 plays video better than diamond and sex1, same spec'd they are, even when the differences are small. it's even better than tytnII, amazing if we think that it has more than quadruple tytnII pixels.
and yes my tytnII could achieved better battery life, better sigtnal reception, better gps, but that's only after dozens of testing radio roms and also os roms, after more than 1 year. you must know, of curz...
more amazing is, all my tp2 current performance is still based on my original WWE OEM rom. imagine result when using cooked ones

I too used a TyTN II before with several custom roms, and I must say I'm impressed by the TP2 on stock. In fact, the only reason I'm currently looking at getting Hard SPL fixed is because I've a Dutch OS and I prefer English.
If I were you, I'd base the decision to buy a TP2 over other models on the need for a hardware keyboard. The features/stability/smoothness of the stock rom does not have to be a reason to avoid it imo.

i have had the tytn... i jumped to nokia for only one reason... it drived me crazy the latency of the phone app... and of course the blacklist apps that were worthless considering that the busy tone entered at least 1 sec after the actual ring... one other issue was the connection with my parrot car kit... ck3100... it worked but not 100%...
now i ihave seen the touch pro 2... first i had my eyes on the n97... but after holding it in my hands for a few minutes i got disspointed... the touch pro 2 i just like it... althogh i have never seent it live..
my issues are
1. how it is from the responsivnes point of view... compared with the tytn and also with symbian phones
2. should i buy tp2 now or just wait a little more considering that this was launch quite a while ago and it could apear not far in the future another one better?
3. i haven't found a video with the autorotate function in action... is it working?... i mean based on the g sensor not the keyboard sliding...

Man, that is disappointing. I never used the GPS on my Tilt, but either way T-Mobile's service will kick the **** out of AT&Ts in my area. I don't get service ANYWHERE right now. I charge my phone every night, anyway, though..

Thanks for the replies. For all its quirks I think the TyTn II is one of the best phones I have ever had, and I have gone through some phones, the first windows mobile I had was an SPV E100 with the clip on camera ( I am a hoarder so its still in my loft !! ). Because of the keyboard and the tilt screen I ( like others ) see the TP2 as a logical step to go to....
The thing is the lack of a touchpad kinda niggles me, but looking around, it looks like its being dropped from a lot of touch phones now, there wouldn't be much of an issue it was multi touch, but in this case it isn't. The dropping of the touch pad looks more to me like making the phone look like the iPhone rather than an improvement.
That said I am swaying more and more to the Touch Pro II, but a just a couple more questions if you wouldn't mind...
Does Tom Tom 7 work OK on it and does the lack of the touch pad really make a lot of difference...
I tried using my phone without touching the pad and I found navigating test to be a pain, but that may just be because I am just used to the pad, and I guess I will just get used to it not being there.
Just want to make sure before the jump as it will be my phone for the next eighteen months, and as its something I use every day then I just wanted to make the right choice.
The only other phone I was looking at now was the Omnia II but no keyboard

No problem, mate, i also read the "i got mine" thread over and over before buying since I was practically "engaged" with my sex1 at that time. My gripes for sex1 was smallish 4-row keyboard (i have fat fingers too), non-flushed screen and no accelerometer. I trade those for lack of d-pad, and after a month now i'm content The keyboard is a feast! (take this from a guy who had used several devices with sliding keyboard)
I use Garmin XT so i cannot comment on Tomtom which doesn't have map for my region. *IMHO, touch and drag is faster than clicking d-pad*
And the autorotate can be tweaked to work all-time (default is only limited programs).
Responsiveness is excellent in stock rom, with minor tweaks it beat tytnII running the fastest 'naked' custom ROM. Symbian (N97)? I read many reviews and most are not very happy with its responsiveness, so i can safely say it's unmatched =)

OK, finally got round to taking the plunge and got one on contract from Vodafone as Orange tells me they are not stocking the phones anymore.....
Got it on Your Plan 100 + unlimited Mobile Internet for £25 a month and only had to pay £60 for the phone
Thought it was a good deal as its the same as my current Orange plan.
Due for delivery tomorrow.
Going to be fun re-installing all the apps stuff I want on it.
