I find non BS is faster when you LOAD it like what I do on mine, I find with most non BS is the same! IF you like your PDA loaded, go the non BS way as BS is good when you don't load your phone but once you loaded it goes slow.
PS: in other words, you have to download each one and try for yourself, as I have ALWAYS BEEN SAYING!

Yeah well when you load programs to your hermes, I find the BS ones are good to begin with but once you load it up with programs it gets quite slow, I have
HTC Home
Yahoo Go!
HTC Audio Manager
SPB Phone suite
SPB mobile shell
Palringo
HTC X button
Windows Live Mobile no IM
Push email with server 2003
Forgot to add Opera 9.5 beta ala josskosh
And when I loaded all that the BS version gets real loaded and just feels a lot slower after loading all that.

I also donno. But logically, when u gain some; u'll lose some.

Could also be because the memory of the pda is not used the same way. The area used by NBS is perhaps "easier to access" than when the full available memory is used. (boundaries management,...)

I think it doesnt matter if it is BS or not. if you load more programs, then it automatically slows everything down! we just need a better OS LOL

Extended Rom unlock and Intent cab??

Has anyone been able to figure out how to unlock teh extended rom on the Dash (actually more specifically the s620/excalibur)?
The reason I'm asking is I'm looking for a cab for the intent midlet manager. I'm curious to see if it handles the high mem version of opera mini better than teh default esmertec one does. I'm not patient enough to wait for their "fix" I guess
TIA
there isn't an extended ROM in the smartphone OS.
*BUT*
The high memory version of Opera mini works great on my Dash running the S620 OS.

sweet. does that mean you wanna trade!!
apparently the problem is in the midlet mgr tmo usa bundled, hence the request for intent.
thanks tho

Why don't you just install the HTC ROM?
re-read my post. I own a Dash and loaded the s620 FW on it. Best think I ever did.

Ah I missed that part. I received teh reply notification while I was in the car. Typed teh reply at a red light
I've debated bewteen installing it or not. Here's my reasons why not:
1) I'm cheap. I don't know if I wanna spend the $40 to unlock.
2) This is the first smartphone I've bought from tmo. I'm still nervous about voiding any warranty. I need to research a bit about being able to either reflash to the stock tmo rom or backing up my rom to a microSD like I did with teh MDA, as well as being able to CID lock my phone again just incase I have problems.
3) I'm coming from an MDA that I've flashed probably 15 different times. Its a slippery slope to Phone geekdom once I start.
We'll see what happens, thanks for the tips tho. (Eliminating xT9 would be nice though...
Reasons to unlock your phone and flash the s620 ROM on it...
1. the original T-Mobile ROM is available so you could always go back.
2. I'd pay T-Mobile 40 bucks if they'd tell me how to at least turn XT9 off permanently!
3. I hate carrier branding.
4. You'll get that good java client you want
5. You know you want to
6. You'll be able to use *ANY* ROM that comes out in the future.

go to this link to download
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Excalibur/
My understnding is the HTC ROM doesnt support teh push and hold feature to get teh alt of each key?? I've really gotten used to that now.
that is correct, no push and hold. The only other thing that is wierd in the s620 ROM is when you're surfing a mobile webpage where you can hit a number for an option instead of highlighting and selecting it, it doesn't work. Typing 7 to delete your hotmail works on the T-Mobile ROM but not the s620 ROM. No idea why.
*BUT*
That XT9 irritated me SO much, I don't care what I lose. Losing XT9 is the best feature of this ROM and my main motivation for doing it. Also, you get the native JOGGR functionality back (which is a little buggy and slower than using the D-PAD but I digress).
It is a very solid ROM and the Intent Java client is a nice bonus.

yup. There is no extended ROM on Smartphones but POF can probably answer better than anyone.
I'm saying there isn't... But I've been wrong before.
-Mc
i think you are!
there is other smartphone with extended roms and to clarify to those who do not know what extended rom is ,when its visible on your device it is a folder with all the applications and carrier settings in it ,that when you hard reset your device they are installed, and one thing is to find how to make it visible with file explorer and another is to unlock it to be able to copy the files some where else ,!!!

Also, before downgrading i suggest you take a look at what you have installed that is loading at your start up and running on the background, because that is probably what is causing the lag at the startup and the high battery consumption.
I'm saying it because i experienced the same and after optimizing my startup/boot the phone started booting real fast and the battery is lasting a bit longer.
At last, depending on how old you battery is and how intense is the use you make of your phone, downgrading might not help at all, probably a new and/or higher capacity battery is the best solution.
Hope i helped ratter than confused.
Cheers.

Can't download SDA_ApplicationUnlock ????

Hi all, just got my second dash, and wanna flash to wm6.1. Main reason, I want threaded SMS, that's really all I want out of it. I will mainly be using my phone as an mp3 player (with a2dp headphones), for texting, email, internet surfing, and gaming (pocketNester )
I was trying to follow the directions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415225 But the following link won't let me download the sim application unlocker, it keeps saying page not found
http://www.mediafire.com/?egm0z1vnbh0
Any ideas? My phone is a Rogers locked s621, not sure if that makes a difference.
Also, I know there are the main 4 6.1 Roms, I read what they offered, and they all seemed like they would work for me. One I saw had an app in it for overclocking, which may be nice to speed up my phone for pocketnester, but from what I can recall, this app can be installed to any ROM.
From the pics, the Rose rom by Ricky and Stylez seems the coolest looking, I guess because of the chrome theme. Anyways, any suggestions as to my rom choice are greatly appreciated, and a solution for the app unlocker. I would go with what ever rom was easiest, as this will be my first time doing this. Hope to be able to do this by tomorrow evenign, thanks a lot everyone

Memory management for dash?

I run Rose ROM v 1.7 made by Ricky & Stylez. There is the free memory function there. If I quit all the programs and use the free memory tool, I can only get about 12mb of RAM free... Is there any way how to get more free RAM???
As stylez suggested, there is something called PagePool. Don't do it though, because it slows down the Dash... very much.
You'll have to do what we all do... soft reset the phone at least once a day (usually twice). Windows Mobile is notorious for memory leaks and this doesn't have anything to do with what rom you're running.

No you asked and i commented on Kavana and explained how then you flashed RoseROM and used the PagePool.

14-15MB after using things if fine, even using CeleTask or SKTools free RAM you will never claim back the ammount used WM is renound for memory leaks so little bit of memory get lost and unreclamed.
If you are using Kavana or Ricky Remade would advise pagepool 4.5MB you will then have aprx 27MB free RAM on boot and no nock on of slow down with speed of ROM due to the pagepool.

You: Hey stylez, I flashed your ROM v1.7a.
Gonna test it for a week or so to see if I will keep it running or go back to Kavana's.
It looks real good btw. I like the black HTC logo thing when you start it. You got some nice themes with the green/black, which is more of a esmerald to be honest, the grey bars are cool, even though you have double sounds like two Old School tones, and others. Really like the new image for when you lower or make higher volume.
Great thing is that...
CHome is cool. Not an expert yet but I am playing around with it, reading also the thread in here. I tried to install the one for desktop, so to speak, it doesn't work... any reason why? It tells me that the CHomeConfigurator has encoutered a problem and needs to be closed.
I got a couple of questions.
1) First of all, I did the pagepool thing like you said at 4.5. I got around 24 M steady so thats great... but I noticed that the phone runs muuuuuch slower, when I click back, when I install or uninstall something. How come? Is there something related to the pagepooler?
2) When with Kavana 6.1, I had full bars and reception everywhere, but last night I had the phone go on searching way too many times and yes I did configure it for T-Mobile. Any reasons?
3) Can I change the icons using the CHome Config on the phone, or I need the desktop one?
So far not much more. If something else comes to mind I will ask.

Thanks for the suggestion, but most roms, including Kavana, Ricky v24 and Rose have a free memory function built in with Celetask. Most of us also install SK Tools and SmartToolkit, which also have free memory functions, lol. No need for Oxios Memory, IMO.

He is asking how to get more free M, and as you told me, I am telling him to use pagepool, which is IMO a bad idea no matter which ROM you use. I am sorry buddy but... is English your first language? Just out of curiosity.
And here is what was really said.

Some people seem to forget that we're not profesional rom makers, a lot of this is trial and error, deal with it. we get enough help around here(specially from Stylez) to be pointing fingers, every time there's an issue or it doesn't suit you.
BTW, just flash to v24 vanilla a couple of days ago with pagepool(Thank you very much STYLEZ) more ram, more device storage, and no speed loss, thank you Stylez. I only run my overclock to 228mhz, and is running perfect.
I'm sorry, did I thank you Stylez?

I do not understand the reason for this outburst, since you pretty much said nothing that had to do with the convo between me and stylez, which was simply a misunderstanding from his part. Its done with, so, enough.

Hi, I have had to turn my xda trion back to factory settings and now i cannot use my wi-fi or any of the programs i used before. install it from your phone
it won't do it:-( have installed from my storage card and it cam upwith a load of text, i take it, it installed, have paired my phone with the other phone, can send stuff, just can't recieve, the ftp tab or whatever suppose to be there (only going by what other posters elsewhere have put) isn't there. Imust be thick or something
i have paired the devices
so in devices the item is there, in mode i have both check boxes checked, compports(unsure about this, do i need to do anything in there?)
oops i am now experiencing hang ups on the phone, taking ages to do things...Hmmmm
not going to do a reinstall just though.
are there anymore fixes i can try for this, i have saved this one just in case though, xx
make sure 'beam' is on in comm manager and set to receive all in connections.
been having seveve problems since ilast posted tried to reinstall from scratch the copy of 6.1 i have and the screen was going white, so i have updated to 6.5 again, although i hate it, it's a shame there isn't an updated stock file of 6.5 with the look of 6.1 because that would be ace. Love the new connection in 6.5 on/off thing is i am having the same issues with bluetooth with 6.5, it must be my phone??? don't know where to turn now

link won't work for me:-( i have reinstalled 6.1, but it hasn't fixed it. But it maybe useful to know that if you do try a clean install of something, inother words the same on top of them same rom,and it hangs then it maybe worth installing a different one and then going back to the one you want, it worked for me anyway...lol

flash the at&t one before you flash the rom of your choice. It is essential to getting your phone to work well with 6.1 and 6.5 roms and eliminating tons of problems.
also flash using the sd method if possible

no offence but that rom is awful, it slows my phone, the backgrounds are rubbish in it, the different keypads are good though, but i only wanted the normal one. i don't wish to be scathing about it, but it just is not my taste. The bluetooth still doesn't work, no tab, people keep going on about another tab i should have at the bottom of the bluetooth, can someone clarify this??
i must say though., seeing the WIFI and Bluetooth on the screen is brilliant. The today screen is extremely basic. why isn't the start screen editable?? i'd like messages, clock, file explorer, and a few other things but there you go.
i am now searching for another 6.1 to rival the first one i found or a 6.5 that isn't to overthe top
Actually flashing with the microsd card is the preferred way because it's faster, more reliable and doesn't require you be connected to a PC. I think you should read the wiki a little (not meant to be condescending). If you want nice 6.5 roms that don't slow you down then try the lite versions. You will find them all with links to the at&t base rom.
finally tonight i have found what i have been searching for
the shipped 02 software
i am a complete newbie, and i'm totally wondering why no one pointed me at this when i first came to this forum, it has even replaced that stupid Dark vision HTC splash screen...rubbish!!!
It has fixed my bluetooth issue straight away, i know you like pushng the boundaries on here but christ i have spent 5 days searching for this!!
hopefully any newbies will find this post,it for a XDA Trion or Hermes 100 as i later found out and is the software that rolls out from 02
oh god finally.
warr38
Hi Essexgirl. Can you please tell me, where did you find the shipped 02 software? Do you have a link for it and what version of Windows Mobile is it?
