I want to learn how to cook a rom but i dont know where to start. whats the best programme to use? any tutorals? please help
Search for Kitchens.
You use kitchens to cook roms.
The wiki has lots of information to ramp your base knowledge.
I second the suggestion to Search for Kitchen, both in the forums and the wiki. It's all here.
Then the easiest place to start is with matts Pandora Kitchen.
Then as you get more comfortable , I like Core Kithen, he even includes a tutorial.
A great search tool that I use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298893
It keeps me from asking questions that have been asked a thousand times.
Best kitchen documentation is available in Wizard forum. Download Faria's kitchen and read the instructions with it. Cooking concept is the same for both the devices, just the OS is different.
Once you have the knowledge, you can try matt's Pandora or RomDonald's
PS: Do not use wizard kitchen to cook a hermes ROM
is there any progamming language you need to learn before starting or is it all part of the kitchen?

no, it's moving files around, running applications, and clicking checkboxes. Super easy once you get rolling.
is there a good tutoral for these things or is a lot of it just trial and error. any good tips? dont want to risk bricking my device more than i have to.
im also running windows vista will that limit my choices?

Download the pandora kitchen....give that a bit of a play with.
I am interested in where can I find base OS roms. I would like to cook my own rom and for example to use build 5.2.2000 WM6. Where can I find it?

I dont think .2000 has been ported yet for hermes...if you can port it for hermes, then you are a chef (like faria or Schap's, etc)...but for us cooks, find the ROM you like (eg. Schap's 4.0 or Pandora's, etc), extract OS and start playing with it.
so far ive read up on the pandora kitchen post and the others suggested in this post. it seems like the easyest to use it the pandora kitchen but it dosnt seem to run. the build os programme stops responding. im currently downloading the latest .net but it might be because i have vista. i cant downgrade to xp due to a problem with my hard drive. should be getting a new one this week but would like not to have to dual boot to save hard drive space plus i like vista.

To ensure you have configured the kitchen correctly (ie put the components in the correct location after downloading), try downloading the Pandora Naked kitchen from it's rom thread (in my sig). It's a complete package - so extract it into a folder and try running BuildOS. If it fails - it's your PC. If it works - it's the way you assembled it.

Hello,
today i flashed my hermes with Pays WM 6 2.15 Rom GER Lite... but my question is a general issue.
In the lite version of this rom there is no Schaps Config or other tweaking software to disable security certification.
And - now sit down - when i install Schaps, HTweak & co. I am able to install it but im not able to execute it. Then I got an error about not secure certificate things...
anyway, can ya help me?

Install .netFamework and you'll be able to install HTweak...
That's actually a message which should tell you that you don't have NETCF installed. Search for a NETCF cab, either NET CF 2 or 3 willl do.
EDIT: Ah well, redundant now!

I am actually able to install it, but not to run it... but work now like a charm thank you lightman3dd & chunkymonkey.
It's really strange why why Net Compact Framework is not included in this rom... I think that is so ****ing required...

Lots of the new ROMs don't have .NET framework because there are two different ones now. 2.0 and 3.5, and each have benefits and drawbacks. And actually, I don't use any software that requires .NET, so that's an extra few megabytes of storage for me.

Thats true, about 7 mb on my main storage are quite annoying... but don't you use tweaking software like HTweak or Schaps etc.? Do you know alternative which dont need Net CF?
yeah, would also be interested to know of alternatives and what software you are using

If you know what "tweaks" you need you can make a cab, is what I did. One cab that does all my personal tweaks and installs my server's security certificate.
Schaps did a great job but I never install it as I don't feel the need....

Wow, and how to do that? Is there a tutorial for this?
Thank you!
So I finally upgraded from the Kaiser to the HD. WOW!!!
I love just picking it up and looking at the screen....
I have tried installing only two apps thus far -gyrator and HD Tweak. Both apps tell me that they require the latest version of the .net compact framework. I am running the HD in it's out the box state.
I've searched here and performed a general google search but this has not yielded any simple answer
Hopefully some kind soul can help me sort this out or at least point me down the right path...
And let me say it in advance: fankyouwellymush!
Try to install .net Compact Framework http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E3821449-3C6B-42F1-9FD9-0041345B3385&displaylang=fr
Hope this helps
Thanks, that's worked.

1st step: Hard-SPL http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131
2nd step: Backup all your data (if needed)
3rd step: install the rom you want, be carefull, it´s a very addictive step.
Happy flashing.
Hi there,
I'm new here. I got a HTC TD2 from Vodafone. I've read many threads here but I still don't know what to do to reach my aim. Actually I got WM 6.5 installed. But I want to change some things and modify my smartphone.
My favourite theme is the "Tesalat_Metal V2_Theme".
But I simply don't know how to act to realize that theme on my HTC. Is it possible to install it on WM 6.5? Or have I to install WM 6.1 again?
And what are the following things: ROM Flashmore WM 6.5.3, HTC Sense Leo 2.02 Dusk-More V2.1?
I hope you can understand what I want and I hope that someone here can help me. I just need a kind of tutorial how to modify my phone..
Thx
MarcusAntonius
Firstly, since you got the Touch Diamond 2, you should probably head over to the Touch Diamond 2 forum (aka: Topaz)
secondly, ROMs are basically a different version of the Operating System that you can "flash" onto your phone - although you should note that doing this can void your warranty.
thirdly, those different ROMs that you had mentioned, are basically different ROM programmers - aka: "Chefs" - that modify the base ROM is give different benefits. These benefits may include increased speed, increased eye-candy, increased functionality, decreased "junk" on the phone, and other performance optimizations.
since you are also a newbie here, another suggestion for just general forum use: use the "Search" button =]
Good luck and have fun!
Thank you for the quick answer! But what have I to do to modify my phone into the "Tesalat_Metal V2_Theme"? Do i have to flash the ROM? I know that doing so can void my warranty.. But there must exist a tut or something like that where I can read how to act! I already used the search function but didn't find an answer..
Greetings!
If the theme is a .cab file then just install it and restart your phone, if it's a ROM then you have to flash it! you can use the flashing guide.
grts.
