Wrong Keyboard Mapping 2
Hello
I decided to install Kavana over KickWyatt and installed the Tegic eT9 as recommended in the my previous thread.
Now when I press FN and J, I no longer get @, I get a j. I am supposed to get the English Pound Symbol.
If I press s, I get 4 and no s.
I tried the Et9 Full and that didn't help either. I had a txt file in the installed directory that shows the correct mapping, but I don't know what to do with it.
Please Assist.
Thanks
Adrian

did you reboot your phone at you installed the tegic cab?

YES
Hello
Yes I did reboot. I didn't see anywhere to configure it!!

you dont configure. take this file and put it in your \windows directory via activesync...then on the phone, browse to that directory and execute it. when its done, reboot the phone. thats all

I had to go back to RickWyatt as WiFi gave problems with Kavana.
I installed the file you suggested as recommended. I still get an @ over j instead of a Pound Sign. I get a = over L instead of a euro sign.

you need the British layout, not american. lol

Here, take this zip file, unzip it.
take the et9 file and drop it into the windows folder.
reboot

Strange considering I bought my phone in NY.
I tried the UK layout that came with RickWyatt but that didn't work.
I replaced the file, and it still doesn't work.
I went into RickWyatt Excalibue eT9 and tried both US and Uk after upgrading file but no luck.

Your doing something wrong? What did you replace as the .cab need to be installed, then reboot
After reboot you may be in predictive text mode if so, go to messaging and in the text input area presss FN+SPACE choose ABC.
Have i just jumped a step ahead?

He needs his layout to be set to UK

Predictive Text is working good. Switching to ABC mode doesn't help.
My Key Board looks like this

Yep guessed that and kinda thought he might use Tegic eT9.cab
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397723&highlight=tegic
Your Dash has same key layout as mine UK.

runiertt suggested the same file in a previous link and it didn't work.
Is this a different file?

Need help to solve some issues after flashing ROM
I have some questions / problems / comments and I’m seeking for help. I recently upgraded my HTC S621 WM5 to WM6.1:
1.- I already upgraded the phone OS using file “RUU_Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_080408_WWE.exe” because I was not able to use the ZIP file “RUU_Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_Rickys_v23_Opera.zip” I already know about error 270 on 3% progress saying that the file is corrupted, I read that I need a paid service to do this, but, why I was able to update it with the EXE file and not with the ZIP?
2.- I have a Spanish or Latin-American layout so the Ñ was missing. This is my keyboard: http://www.aramation.com/mobile/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/htcs621.jpg
I used HKBoySiR’s file eT9 Full.CAB and WPERDOMOS mapping, everything works except the Caps Lock (BLOC). When the keyboard was in the English layout I had the option to use capital letters, but not anymore. If I go to Settings/ Regional Settings/ on language I only get US English. In Locale I get Spanish (Mexico). This is a problem because I use passwords that mix upper and lower case letters. I went to an other thread and installed Mikey1022’s file eT9.Excalibur.zip but it did not solve the problem.
3.- The internet browser button now lunches the CeleTask application instead of the browser. I can’t figure out how to correct this, I read hundreds of post, but I don’t get it.
4.- Mexico is not listed in the Connection Setup Wizard. Thanks to raimin211 for his post on configuring TELCEL.
5.- Is there a way to lock the phone after flashing the ROM to avoid dialers as warn or does it locks automatically with the new ROM?
Thanks in advance for your help. Just in case I fix with your help all the issues and I don’t return to post a thank you note, THANK YOU. Robert

You can't install a flash a zip file to the best of my knowledge. Unzip it first, and then you should have the exe to flash.

See here maybe help http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Technical
I did the upgrade from Jasjar WWE to Dopod CHT. Here is how I did it:
1. Connect JJ to ActiveSync thru USB and wait till the sync session is completed.
2. While the sync is still active, I ran MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe. After a few steps of checking, it will disconnect ActiveSync and put the JJ into the bootloader mode.
3. The upgrade will halt with a country code error. No upgrade has been performed yet.
4. Run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe again while the cable is still connected and JJ still in bootloader mode. I was prompted that I am upgrading from [Blank] to [NewVersionNumber]. Click "Next".
5. The ROM will be upgraded this time till it's done. It took about 20 minutes.
6. I pressed both softkeys and reset. When the reset prompt comes up, I pressed "0" to reset to default factory settings. After some booting time, JJ starts to speak Chinese.
I upgraded to Chinese ROM because the Chinese plug-in I used to use for English ROM is kind of buggy on WM5. Thanks to everyone on this forum.
There are a few things I did after I upgraded to CHT ROM:
1. Changed the system font to the more artistic Kai font (from KAIU.ttf on a Windows machine). The original system font was MingLiU, which looked kind of scrawny on a VGA screen.
2. Re-enabled ClearType for the system and PIE. For some reason, Dopod disabled ClearType settings so the user cannot turn on ClearType from the user interface. I used a registry editor and modified a few keys to get the ClearType feature back.
With the Kai font and ClearType, the screen becomes a lot more readable and very pretty! If someone is interested in step-by-step instructions, let me know, and I will post them.
By the way, I was so excited when I discovered the im.tv site actually works for me in USA. I was able to watch the TV news in Taiwan in full VGA screen.
One difference I noticed is that with the WWE ROM, I can very easily set up Bluetooth ActiveSync. With the CHT ROM, the device can only discover the serial port service on my computer, but not recognize its ActiveSync capability. If someone knows how to correct this, please let me know.
Also, in case you don't know, the keyboard mappings between WWE and CHT ROMs are slightly different. The SYM key is swapped with the ";" character, probably because SYM is hardly used in Chinese input. The shortcut "FN + ;" can toggle the English and Bomopofo modes. Note the ";" character is now on the SYM key of JASJAR.

Hi yyl :
Can you tell me how to change system front to Kai ?
Thanks
1. Copy KAIU.ttf from a Windows machine. Paste it into the Pocket PC's "Windows" directory thru ActiveSync.
2. Using a registry editor (like PHM RegEdit), BACK UP your registry first! Then go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink\". Change the data of "Courier New" and "Tahoma" keys to "\windows\KAIU.ttf,DFKai-SB".
3. Soft-reset your device. Now all the Chinese characters become Kai font. It is not very smooth, because ClearType is still disabled.
4. To enable ClearType, this is how I did it. Maybe some steps are not really necessary.
5. Using the same registry editor, search for the keyword "cleartype" in all the keys and values. I found three matches. I set ClearType=1, NoClearType=0, ClearTypeText=1 respectively.
6. Soft-reset your device. You will see that the system ClearType is still disabled. Go to "Settings -> System -> Screen -> ClearType" to enable ClearType. This option was originally hidden from end users. Now it's visible. Once you check the "Enable ClearType" box, the font will immediately smooth up.
That's it. One thing worthy of note is, KAIU.ttf seems to only have traditional Chinese characters, not simplied Chinese. I am not sure.
Thanks yyl , I will try it today

Can you upload KAIU.ttf which I can't find in my window machine, Are you used Chiese window system ? mine was English + language pack
The KAIU.ttf comes with many versions of Microsoft Office of many languages. When the Asian character support is selected during installation, Office will install some extra Asian fonts for you. This is one of them.
Anyway, I uploaded this font to ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Universal
I don't know if this upload is appropriate. If it is not, the board moderators, please feel free to delete it. Thanks.
The principles that I outlined above should work with any TrueType Chinese font that you like.

Yes, as I mentioned in one of my previous posts, KAIU.ttf seems to include only traditional Chinese. The MingLiU font that came with the Dopod ROM has both traditional and simplified. I presume there are many third-party fonts on the market that support both. Note that fonts supporting both styles tend to occupy a lot more space.

Fiddling around with WM6 Beta's eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap.txt

I discovered that by fiddling around with this file (found in the /windows folder, you can quickly change the keymappings in the beta version. For example, I've only done a quick test, but I remapped the '%" symbol on the Q to be a "!" when alt is pressed or a long press is done. This worked in both Outlook and Word on my test. No reboot was needed BTW.
So if you haven't yet, check it out. I'm surprised it's this easy. What's the catch?
Does this mean that WM6 *will* have T9 on it?
(Pls. excuse my stupidity, but I have an O2 Cosmo (pretty much an Excalibur) and it does hot have currently T9 or XT9 or anything. And I can not reprogram it to access accented characters (which I am dying for).
Thanxx, Mixx

Yes, but what I wanted is its syntax (what is in it and what does thet mean), in the hope that I discover similar files on the standard version.
There are actually some files in \windows that might contain key-codes. such as this file:
SymPad0407.txt
with content such as
...
00A7
00A8
00A9
00AA
00AB
00AC
....
which looks like key-codes to me. But I do not know, what to do with it.

Reverting to Factory Settings. HELP!

I installed the WM6 Black, and my keyboard is not inputing the right chars...I tried the RegEdit fix but nothing. I am trying to revert to the factory Cingular settings and I am using RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_.06.502.3_6275_1.33.31.00_108_Ship.exe. I keep on getting update error message. Thank you in advance.
I had this with my T-Mobile ROM, the .exe file expands the files into a temp directory, the only one you need is the .NBH.
1. Copy this file to your storage card and rename it 'HERMIMG.nbh'.
2. Plug device into mains charger.
3. Push & Hold the side 'OK' and 'Power' buttons.
4. Reset the device.
5. Your now in bootloader.
6. Holding the 'Reset' button with the other two will make the device search for and run the HERMIMG.nbh file.
7. Make a coffe or something... (It takes about 25 minutes).

This is the quickest fix I have read about. Works with out a hitch for everyone who has done it.
Cool. I m happy I can finally do this. Although I would like to fix the keyboard instead...Anyways what solution do you guys know of that will fix the keyboard? Also where can I get that .nbh file?
Thanks a lot!!!
You can either use WinRAR to unpack it or if you run the .exe it will unpack to '\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp'.
I would suggest going back to this ROM as a diagnostic tool to make sure the keyboard isn't faulty...Just make sure you upgrade to SPL 1.35 Olipro first as this makes your phone almost unbrickable in future! If you do brick it so either your stuck in bootloader mode or the OS won't start follow the above instructions...
Well, I know for sure that my keyboard was working perfectly fine before doing the WM6 rom. I have tried fooling around in the Registry...didn't make it worse, but didn't make it better either. What values do you guys have for the qwerty in the registry? Also is there a program that will let you program what key gets what symbol?
I know I am trying to decide between factory, or trying to fix this keyboard characters mix up...
Thanks again.
Not to over-simplify, but what phone are you using? If it's the 8525, there's a CAB file to remap the keys to right places... just search for 8525 keyboard fix.

Here is keyboard .cab file fix.
Thank you very much guys. I solved the issue. The fix I ended up using was; going to my local Cingular store and beaming a reg editor into the live 8525 they have there, and looking at the registry where the qwerty is located the hexadecimal value on it is 40409 (located @ local machine/software/oem/qwerty/). Please let others know about this fix for the Cingular 8525.
Also thanks a million to those who actually put a linky and not just say there is something somewhere...
Thanks again,

keyboard mapping error and Kavana's latest ROM

Okay, I dug through the 160+ pages of his thread (okay maybe the last 20) and I found no mention of the problem I'm having. I apologize if this is a double post but maybe this will help people who are having the same problem quickly find it.
I have a T-mobile Dash I recently updated to Kavana's latest rom, and when I go to type a text message (this is all I've checked so far) Instead of qwerty I get like q.arrty or something of the like. The keyboard mapping is off. Is there a fix for this around?
Self bumping - I found it after looking a little harder. Thanks to Rip Syntaxx for the having it in your sig.
Link: HKBoySiR's Tegic eT9.cab (English Keyboard Mapping)
I also needed this
Thank you for that zip file that should solve the problem with the keyboard. I also have a t-mobile dash and I tried flashing the kavana 6.1 but I had a problem with the keys being backwards but hopefully this fixes it. I would just like to know if anyone can help with the internet settings. I have the t-mobile internet plan but when I flash to kavana it's all erased and tells me to set up an ip or whatever but I do not know how to do any of that stuff and I just want the exact same t=mobile internet settings, can someone help me out?

needed: \windows\keypad.dll - Samsung i617

I just purchased the US AT&T Samsung i907 (US i780).
The keyboard sucks. Press and Hold = repeat; not ALT CHAR. Also the keyboard can only accept 1 key input at a time.
With No physical Dpad, the keyboard needs to be fully working.
The keyboard is the same as the i617, but they use different drivers.
i617 = \windows\keypad.dll
i907 = \windows\zylonite_keypad_Us.dll
I've tried grabbing this file off of my friends i617, but copying the file would produce an error or a 0kb file. Using a USB Cable and Activesync wouldn't even show it when browsing files.
I have all the required registry keys that I need... but I'm looking for this "keypad.dll" from a Blackjack II. I've downloaded a few ROM dumps from WM6 and WM6.1 but all I get are RAW files, which I'm assuming are from a Kitchen.
Without getting too involved in Blackjack II Rom and Kitchen setup, does anyone have access to this file they can upload or have a method for me to extract this file myself?
some remote registry editors show the "real contents" of the phone... you may be able dump that way
just out of curiosity sake.... what kind of a drive do windows pick up the mobile device..... you might be able to right a batch file or use ms dos commands (copy function) to dump things...... i dunno, food for thought.....
edit: you can also try mtty or putty
anyone with any other more definitive answers? I'll be the first to admit I have no idea what I'm doing.
I have the RAW ROM Dump files, but I'm assuming you have to be some sort of magical wizard to open them or have a Kitchen.
Any wizards out there have a kitchen they can shoot me a link to an uploaded blackjack 2 keypad.dll?
Bump
Hey, I'm sorry to inform that i cannot help you with this, but if you made any progress, I'd very much like to know how you did it. I need a new driver for the same reasons as you. Looking for a BJ2 keypad driver and with that a scandinavian layout config.
I'm also very interested!!
@player911
Please!! Dont give up! I would like to help. but i have no idea how.
I hope you made a little progress in that problem.
Good luck and keep up you good work in improving the i907/US i780.
I'll upload if I can off of my BJII. I am thinking of getting the Epix, so this will help me a lot.
Will update soon.
I have the same problem in I600
The relationship is still in OEMMITS.
It has a great relationship.
How would I go about to extract this .dll?
Write to the exact.
and from which the device, you toss it
How to update keypad.dll
My actually driver don't work
Relase topic........
Rename the file? If it doesn't work, just rename it to something else then the original driver will appear. Can you upload it so I can test?

Yup.. here You go.
Thanks a bunch! Now to test on my machine ! Backing up right now, and I am about to replace the file when its done. I renamed the keypad.dll to zylonite_keypad_Us.dll, just to see what will happen with out any mods to the file.
EDIT:Ok, here's what happened.
The mouse movement works, but any button presses, keyboard presses do not work. Nothing works except the optical mouse, but it has no click function. Some one has to edit the file to be compatible with the i907/i780. The backlight didn't work either. I got it back to normal, I just deleted the file then soft reseted and the keypad was working again.
EDIT 2:
I opened the DLL in word pad, and there is a lot of things linked to the middle scroll wheel and the 4 way navigation it has. Some one might have to copy some things for the top functions, like the left and right soft keys, the call and end button, the ok and start menu button, and the click of the optical mouse. The remove the functions of the Blackjack 2 like the home button and such.
EDIT 3: Can someone provide the zylonite_keypad_Us.dll for me?
I have the same problem on my i600
