Sorry for the stupid question : can i delete some program in rom (like mp3 trimmer or other...) to save memory space (like big storage of cooked rom) or it is necessary to cook a specific rom???
You cant delete software from the rom, so you must cook the rom to get big storage. Or just dump the rom and then rebuilt it you get about 16-18mb more free storage just doing that without delete nothing. I do that with all the official roms I use.

Hi guys,
I was wondering..... can we delete the content of the extended rom and use it as extra storage space like the xda mini?
There is a trick to get extra ~10MB via registry hack on Extended_ROM2.
Do a search on this forum to find that post, as I found it here.
This is not possible, with the Unlock Tools you can only view the files, but the extended rom is protected. You can test it!!!
(Sorry for my bad english)
There are no tools to unlock the artemis external rom at the moment - if you mess with it with the reg edits and tools on the forum you risk loosing the contents of the external rom or the whole external rom may become corrupt so needing a reflash - so beware. On my inspection of the external rom i believe its only 2mb (i may be wrong) in the orbit not sure about the other models so not much to gain anyhow.
it is bigger than 2mb, because the German O2 Extenden Rom (you can find it in ftp) is 4,6mb.
i belive its 7-10mb
only 7 to 10 mb? i cant believe they loaded loaded 20 plus mb of sh*# on the mini with less storage.
Hello!
From what I assume the Ext_ROM is about 16 Mb. When you look in Settings -> System -> Memory on the left side it shows Total 48 Mb (Datastorage? mine is german!). So its likely the entire storage is 64 Mb, ~48 Mb Data and ~16 Mb Ext_ROM.
On the T-Mobile MDA the extended rom is less than 2mb of which only 400k is used.
I would like to cook a clean wm6, based on the wm6 3.5 by tupisdin.
my target : maximizing free memory.
I am a complete beginner with this, so any help would be appreciated.
The steps I have taken so far:
-extracting the rom.nbh into a SYS and a OEM folder, using core citchen,
-copied the xip folder
So now i would like some advise for the next steps...
- To remove files, can I just remove them from the SYS folder?
- do I need an empty extended ROM to make the OS work?
maybe we can cook a clean ROM together in this thread !
thanks!
(The things I would like to have removed from the original ROM are a.o. as much *.wma, *.wmv ,*.mid, *.wav , the games, unused input pads, unused *.jpg, *.gif .....)
hi,
i've a general question about bepe's rom:
since v0.70 the bepe rom don't need an extension rom.
----
Build 0.70 - Bug check build
* For the new version the extended ROM is not used anymore
---
do the flash-process from bepe delete the unneeded old one? if not, how can i do this?

Doesn't the Bepe Rom have large storage where the extended rom is merged into the main rom?
old roms, like a hard driver, have a C:\ ,at the same time have a smaller D:\ which we called extended_rom, this devided your space into 2 parts.
new roms, like bepe's, have only a C:\ !!!
No D:\ anymore, How can you delete something not exist?

Maybe the ext. rom from my previous htc wm5 rom..
if i install a new system on C:\ all data on D:\ in general keep alive..
no? i'm mistaken?

No.. the new Roms have 1 large Disk, the old rom split the same space over the main rom and the extended rom..
If you install the old rom then you will get a extended rom but the main rom will be about 10meg down...
The new larger roms are better as they are usable without having to tweak them.

the rom is not like "a new system" on c:\
it is a control of all your space.
yes, may be the extended rom data will still be there after you flash a new rom, you may even recover some files of it by special tools, but at the boot part of your storage , no index for the extended rom any more, means the data there is marked as useless, and other data will sooner or later cover it. the same as it is not exist.
please dont worry about that, most smart person working on it, they won't make sillly mistake.
Is there a way to transfer the amount of built in storage memory to the system memory? I remember in the earlier versions of Windows Mobile, that you can set this...but I don't see this option anymore.
Thanks.
Short answer.....NO!!
Long(er) answer....since WM5 cam out with the persistent storage (where all your stuff doesn't get lost if your battery goes flat), the size of the memory available is dictated by how the ROM is built - i.e. what applications have been "cooked" into it.
The only way you can make any adjustments to what memory is available is to install a WM6 cooked ROM (there are loads to choose from for practically every WM device); these are built by the ROM chefs with various amounts of "free memory after install"....everything after that is dictated by what applications you install on top of the base ROM.
Hope that helps,
Mark.

Correct !
I'll only add here, that you can also download a 'vanilla' rom of any wm6 version and add on applications of your own need and desire or even cook a rom according to your needs.
Hey all, I'm an experienced user/upgrader, but new to cooking.
When talking about baking an application into ROM as apposed to installing it via .CAB, does it save any storage space? Basically I want to know if an app contained in the OS counts against storage RAM?
