I have been sent a link from O2 Data Support for downloading the new XDA2s ROM upgrade, which apparently will fix the Bluetooth problems.
The link is...
http://www.sourceo2.com/O2_Developers/Devices/O2_Xda_II/XdaIIs_launchROM.htm
Haven't done anything with it yet, but thought you guys might like to know...
regards,
Guy
Hmm I wonder if I can use this update on my O2 Xda2s.
I got it in Malasyia.
Noel
I installed it on my UK XDA 2s, I will report back later.
In the PDF it's saying that this version is only for devices sold by O² UK or O² Ireland... Not sure if I should give it a go on my version..
Noel
I think I might wait and see what others say about this before I install it myself. So many that have it already say it is great but then you hear others say it has caused problems.
That post is the launch rom, not an upgrade. LMAO It is intended for people who attempt to flash the XDA IIs with a different vendors rom and screw it up.
Mike
Nope, its not, click the link. O2 are obviously just too lazy to create a new page for a new rom!
Nigel
HAHA you are correct!!! LMAO oh well.
Hi..have installed the update..and have encountered several problems...was wondering if anyone could help me.
I hate the fact that the clock has disappeared from the top right so whe u are using applications its no longer visible. Is there any way of bring it back?
Also now when you click the o2 at the top it dosn't give the active connections anymore. Therefore whats the quickest way to disconnect the gprs? and is there any way of bringing that back to how it used to be?
I have also had to reset my phone more often that I had to before.
Was wondering if anyone had encountered the same problems and how to resolve them.
Thanks so much...
Bit the bullet and upgraded last night, wifi still works and as I use Corporate mode I don't get any issues with 02 active, icons or clocks. All seems normal, so far!
Have to agree with Dave. I finally bit the bullet and installed the update last night. Don't like the new O2 active and put the clock straight back with the registry key.
Other than the missing clock and poor O2 Active software which I never use anyway no real problems. Tom Tom still works fine with my Bluetooth GPS receiver. WIFI still works fine with WPA security and everything locked down on the access point.
Still receive SMS notification and its nice that you're not limited to 70 char when using ' in sms text messages now!
All ok.
har5ha:
Just get the old O2 active back. To to this, head to the xda-dev FTP site, find the old O2 XDA IIs extended rom, pull it, find the file install.ARM.CAB (O2 active)
Sync/backup yr stuff then hard reset the XDA IIs, and let it do its stuff. When leave it to install the extended rom, but be ready to soft reset it when you get asked the 'corporate/personal' question (you'll have to watch the screen since there is a timeout). Once it reboots, copy install.ARM.CAB to the machine, and execute it. It will soft reset yr device at the end.
I use 2 things from O2 active, the battery plugin and the O2 icon to kill connections. Shame billy did not think to include a disconnect dialogue as well really (he put on in for vpn).
There might be a way to install old over new, dunno. I tried and it locks loads of files (even if you prevent it from loading).
Nigel
thanks Nigel...I ended up installing gb soft for the disconnect button.
So its ok...still getting loads of crashing. I think am going to reinstall it and then use corporate mode..hopefully it will crash less!
can I get an update on xda iis rom update
Hi all, I'm still new to this whole thing but reading and researching all I can. Don't have an xda iis as of yet, but on the high streets waiting list. I like the phone and in one way, can't wait, but don't want problems when I get it, especially at the price. Can anyone on o2 that has purchased their phone from o2 let me know how you are getting on...problems...ect, before and after the update.? To be honest, I'm a bit afraid to bite the bullet and get one right now due to what I'm hearing...especially since I'm not very computer smart. I do understand that it depends a lot on the manufacturer of the phone but if I had problems like I'm hearing about it would really do my head in...(no patience). Thanks
Well I love my phone to bits...had issues with the update but now that I have hard reset it and put it corporate mode its not freezing anymore.
But you have to remember its a pocket pc...like a pc..will need to be reset every so often...I was resetting mine of average once a day. It just takes a minute.
There are some negative points..but the positive outweighs the negative I think. My old pda was palm os (clie) and this is windows which is really good! As well as the fact that it has a phone built in too!
Hi all.
Can you please post some more feedback on this rom.
How is the BT stability?
Range?
Crackling noise?
License Expired troubbles?
I know its Build 3500, but maybe something else in this rom makes a difference.
How about the problem with sound dissapering when you answer a call.
Any troubbles here? This is really a pain in the (_!_)
Running the New Rom for a couple of days now and it seems much better than the launch Rom, The O2 active stuff is just as pants as usual so remove that and the "Connections" exe from Windows\startup.
Best thing is that it's stopped the annoying bug of the GPRS settings being screwed up when you enable/disable Wi-Fi.
Recommend it myself

Anybody knows the password for this rom
PDA2K Upgrade
Hi, Can this rom replace the i mate rom on the 2K.& If so will it then be sim locked to O2? as I want to use an O2 pay as you go, & T-mobile sim
many thanks in advance............
I just had to have my old xdaII replaced with the XDAIIS. Im not sure this is a good thing. I felt a better replacement would have been the XDAIIi , but the insurance wouldn't go for it. After getting it, I found it to be better than expected. I didn't like the keyboard feature at first and still havn't used it. I can say it does have a pretty blue lighted keypad, which I will probably never use.
What I don't like is the fact it locks up 5 to 10 times a day and has to be reset.. There seems to be no reson for this. I do use the old xdaII case, which might come in contact with some of the buttons ( not sure) probably not. I have ordered a new hard case that is made for this pda, in hopes this will solve the problem.
Has anyone else had this lockup problem???

Have you loaded any other apps or today screen plugins etc?
Is it a vanilla device that is just locking up?
You'll get lots of people teeling you it's the O2 software - but mine works fine with it running.
I had exactly the same problem. The device would usually hang while I was using Wi-Fi or GPRS, and I'd have to reset at least 3 or 4 times a day.
The o2 active software constantly monitors the status of these types of connections, and is most likely the culprit. Believe me, you are much better off without it.
After removing the o2 software I've not had to reset device at all. Just disable the o2aui today plugin by unticking the item in the Today settings dialog. You'll also need to delete the shortcut called Connections in the \Windows\StartUp folder.
Let us know if this helps with the lock-ups.
-no1
how to remove the O2 software.
thanks very much
I've mucked around with it a bit but on earlier versions I wasn't happy with its stability. Who's actively using it these days instead of other products like Pocket Plus, and are you happy with its reliability?
I'm hoping that newer versions have better profile options without having to install it to find out (kinda like PPCProfiles Pro or PocketZenPhone).
Getting sick of the 2 reset a day thing and hoping that this can replace several other programs...
dunno never used it. for the 5 seconds i did have it on it looked cheap
i have it running on imate 1.40 rom on uk xda 2s and i think the latest version runs spot on, no probs whatsoever so far after a few weeks, i dont even reset it anymore either, but i think thats more to do with the fact i have better rom!
Thanks joey jojo
Which version do you use and where did you get it from? There seems to be several different versions lying around the place.
i'm using version 1.7, and it runs great. here it is.
Thanks Darkjedi!
Yeah, I use it instead of the crappy O2Active, or O2SlowsYourDeviceDown as I like to call it
It's great with profiles and call diverting and you'll notice if you're cooking an extended rom that it's way smaller than O2SlowsYourDeviceDown, sorry, O2Active. I think it has actually improved that speed of my device dramatically!

Do you say what O2 Active slow down the device?, I was searching why my XDA IIs freezes, I flashed it with 1.40 from i-mate and doesn't freeze anymore, but then when I installed all the programs got the problem again, I have the O2 Active installed with the 1.40 rom from i-mate, do you know if this is my problem? O2 Active? and for what is that 02 plus?
Thanks....
yes I agree, installing o2Active would be like contaminating your unit with a dreadfully decease. I ran it for 5 min and then did a hard reset, never wanting to touch for the rest of my unit's life. Who ever coded that app must have thought we were running a unit with Pentium II. I think o2Active would even slow down a windows 95 stock system.
OK, I'm trying to unistall the o2 active but I cant, it fail, and i no want to do a hard reset, what i can do?

the service is prolly in use. try to go into the startup folder and remove anything pertaining to 02. just cut and paste it in another folder or something. then you need to reset the unit. once it's up and running, go back and try to uninstall o2active.

I reistalled all in my XDA IIs because when i finally unistall 02 active i see what the cpu was allways on 70% of usage, so, i reinstalled all and add the o2 plus 1.7 and yes is GREAT, Thank You....
Has anyone got any screenshot of the 1.7? I would like to see it before installing, as I bet it a bugger to remove!
What other functions does it give you?
Here's the info on O2 Plus: http://www.seeo2.com/o2connect/template/O2Plus.vm
Thanks for that, will have a look
Trying it now.
Enables me to get rid of other software which may reduce the frequency of crashes that I'm getting.
- Profiles aren't as good as PZP (would be nice if the buttons were bigger so you didn't need a stylus when running into a meeting)... plus, not as many items to change like with PZP or PPCProfiles Pro
- Not enough tabs for programs (like SPB Pocket Plus) but pretty good nonetheless
- Not too bad overall. Anyone done any hacking/customising of it?
Actually after 2 days my level of jubilation with this has dropped somewhat.
It's SLOW! My PPC seems to have slowed down a bit in general. Also, the today screen refresh seems to occur often. In addition, switching to landscape crashes the device more often than not (although this happened pre-O2plus, just not as often).
Maybe it's because it's polling the memory and the battery? Who knows? Why is SPB Pocket Plus faster? Level of impressed-ness is dropping.
End of day - had enough of it.
Why? It slowed my BA down and doubled the number of crashes. The last straw was when it killed my call diversions for voicemail even though I had previously de-activated the call diversion options. I was only using it for profiles, not diversions.
I could actually see the screen refreshes it was doing and every time it I jumped back to today, it was painfully slow to refresh.
Thanks to all who responded, but I couldn't get it performing at an acceptable level.
Question.
If we decide to upgrade the ROM to 1.40 will it install O2active again?
Does this Rom have the O2active? or does 02active intall from the extended ROM?
What I mean to say is, when we install the new ROM and perform a hard reset, would we still get the option to install corporate mode with that code 0506 somehting?
whats the verdict?
I am currently on 1.31 and the system freezes a lot and have to soft reset a few times in the day.
I als have battery pack pro installed.
On messages especially sometimes if I type too fast (and I can type very fast ) it misses out letters or just pauses for ages.
Most of the time the first letter I type in a message gets repeated. Sometimes it just decides to repeat one letter as if the key was stuck down.
On top of this messaging and any application where the device is trying to bring up a user input component is SLOW.
Ive not seen these problems mentioned anywhere yet. Is it just me?
Lewis
No, I've got the same problem. But I don't use that keyboard all that much. The main point for me was to get a phone/PDA with WLAN built in, something I believe the 9090 was first with.
same here, it's very annoying..
with the mms app this doesn't happen, input is as fast as in 2003..
Yeah, it is a bit laggy, still acceptable for me.
isn't it possible to somehow replace the messaging module? i use the keyboard very often and this can get really annoying..
I cannot speak for everyone, but I have found a solution that works.
Apparently, the Messaging applet is not getting enough clock cycles to properly process the keyboard input.
For me, simply closing Internet Explorer does the trick. (go into Memory, and make sure it's not listed in Running Programs) Try it now.
If it still occurs, soft reset the phone, and then attempt to use Messaging. Does the problem still occur? Probably not.
Let me know if this solves the issue. I will look more into it when I get the free time.
I found the keyboard horribly slow. That's straight after resets of all kinds and definately no IE.
I have the repeating problem at times, and I never run IE or any other programs at the same time minimized. I use PocketPlus, so programs aren't minimized, they are closed.
that's no good for me, still slow..
just installed rom 1.60c in my gf's qtek 2020 and it's fast as hell! messaging too..dont understand this strange behavior on the BA..
About the keyboard repeating, you can reduce the repeat rate at the keyboard settings..
Keyboard Issue
Has anyone actually solved the problem with the messaging program?
I downgraded back to WM2003 SE because message writing was such a pain. I would like to have WM5 but if and when someone can correct the messaging application.
Any news?
Thanks
Lewis
updated my Blue Angel to WM5 today and found no problem with typing. TheGadgetGuy's probably right about the memory.
I used to have the problem if I would type to fast it would repeat a lot, example "test" would be "testtttttttttttttttttttttt", I found a way to fix it:
A lot of people have been complaining with the same problems with the thumbboard in WM2005, well I found a way to fix it. As you know if you type really fast like a lot of us do with the thumbboard it will repeat and get stuck on a letter, example "fix" turns into "fixxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" then you have to backspace it all. Well let's just cut to the chase, the way to fix it is goto your Start > Settings > System > Keyboard > and goto Repeat Settings, and turn them all the way off (To the left). Tah dah, enjoy .
^The text above is copied from Zevink.com
Had all sorts of problems with WM5, one of the most annoying was this keyboard lag... I type a lot of SMS with it so this made the device unuseable for me.
Happily went back to 2003SE
The blue angel is the biggest pyle htc ever released. That is what is wrong with the ba.
Thanks for that Mikee4fun ... not quite so helpful ...
The only hardware issue I can see with the Blue Angel is with the Radio (Both Bluetooth and WiFi) in that they both seem to be poor in range and BT unstable. That said, BT in particular, may still be a software issue as under WM5 it seems a whole lot more reliable ...
To say the BA is a Pyle (Pile?) based on the fact that an internal thrown together version of WM5 (Trust me, this is the case if you do a bit of Hex editing on a decrypted nbf file and see all the temporary bootloader code which has references to ALL HTC devices by codename) is lacking in areas is not really a solid deduction. From what I have seen of this version of WM5 which has arguably been created in weeks rather than months like version 2003SE, I would say that it is on the whole a very impressive software and hardware solution.
I only hope HTC take the decision to officially update the BA to WM5 in order to fully eliminate all the software bugs in WM2003SE as even the current version of WM5 seems to me a whole lot better than even the latest patched WM2003SE version.
I cannot see it would take them a great deal more engineering time to correct the few issues that remain such as speed tweaks and the odd driver / software update to release a very impressive WM5 version. As Maimach has already proven a number of issues were quite simple to fix (Well, for someone as clever as Mamaich anyway!!!) ...
I had poor keyboard performance (lag) - made me downgrade
Bebbo, I'm afraid that won't happen because of the wish to make people buy new hardware instead of upgrading the stuff they already have. Remember that the biggest selling point of the Wizard and Universal is the WM5. So can HTC create a good WM5? Of course! Will their customers (not us, the providers, Dangaard and Brightpoint) allow them to? Probably not.
Well about the only thing that worked on WM5 was bluetooth...
I get the damned memory error on WM2003SE.... :x
How annoying. I think I'm going back to WM2003se. WM5 isn't that great. It behaves alot like WM2003fe except buggy :S It's not worth all the hastle just for on screen soft keys.
Hey guys, i haven't ever really posted on here other than when i first got my TP2 months ago. Since then i have had 9 replacements for various things, all of which have been hardware related. Things like constant freeze-ups, always telling me i have un-read messages when i don't...anywhere. and some others but those two are the main ones. So i am asking you guys what do i need to do to stop myself from body slamming this phone across my living room? Every single phone i get has the un-read message problem. And after about a month of use they all constantly freeze. I can't stand having to do literally 8+ battery pulls a day because the phone doesn't want to work anymore.
Any ideas? What ROM are you guys all running and what seems to be the most stable? I have never upgraded a ROM before so i have no idea what i am doing there as i have always been a MAC user. However, i do have access to a PC. Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Another thing it does is when i get a call or text the phone will vibrate non stop until i turn it off and restart it. This also happens 2-3 time daily.

The things that you mention are not hardware problems but software. So they can be solved by flashing a new rom. I suggest you read the how to flash for noobs thread.
Try a valkyre rom and read the last pages of that thread to see if there are issues etc
A new ROM may very well help sort out your problems, but the excessive problems you have been having make one wonder if there is not some other issue. So before you go to flashing a new rom, it might be a good idea to do some troubleshooting first to try and narrow down the problem.
First, a few questions:
1)What UI are you using? (i.e., Touchflow 3d, Sense, SPB Mobile Shell, Titanium, Classic today?)
2) What programs are you installing?
3) Are you doing any registry edits? Or using custom programs that do registry edits for you? (Things like configuration tools that you installed)
While answering the questions may shed some light on why you are having problems, here is the first thing I would try that could help narrow down the issue:
1) Dissable any custom UIs (start -> settings -> today -> items tab -> select Windows default -> hit OK) then soft reset your phone. Use it for a day and see if any of the problems go away, then report back.
I've got some other ideas, but will hold out on those until looking at your responses to the others above... good luck.
Hey guys and thanks for the replies. I am on a Verizon TP2. Running the stock HTC Sense ROM that came on my last replacement. I do not have anything custom running on the phone and only have 2 apps on the phone itself (facebook and personal assistant). I have given up putting them on there since i have been replacing the phone so often. Problems are still happening.
Thoughts?
Have you tried yet dissabling sense and running for a day to see if there are any improvements? If that doesn't work, I would move on to a hard reset, then disable Sense, and see if it is better. If it was, I would re-enable sense and dissable the email and sms tabs and see....
Meanwhile, I would also be reading the newbie guide to flashing new roms... as it is really odd to be seeing these sorts of problems with nothing installed on the phone.
I am correct that you haven't installed the facebook and personal assistant programs since your last hard reset? I only ask because the product description for the personal assistant looks like it is somewhat invasive into your phone (i.e., it can track minute use and such) and could possibly be the culprit for some or even most of your issues...

ur previous statement says your a mac guy. what a re you doing with a windows phone? thats just a recipe for disaster.....
try flashing to an NRG rom. I personally have been using cookie energy for months and never had any problems. this may be a lil too complicated for a "mac" user tho.
