Phone shutting down while using IE - Hardware or Software? - HTC Excalibur

I have a Dash which I just flashed Ricky 6.1 last week. I setup the phone for tmobile 5.99 - Internet Explorer works most of the time but sometimes when I am waiting for some sites the phone will automatically shut off.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Is this a Hardware or Software related issue? Can anyone help.

I second that. I had the same issue. Phone use to shutdown while browsing web, or downloading emails (basically heavy net activity). It was due to dying battery giving up when it can't keep up with system power demand.
Suggest to change your battery.

Glad you asked this question i have the same issue. thanks for the answers guys. i figured the battery on this thing was about ready to give up considdering it lasts maybe 3 hours with light inet usage.

[Q] Is there a problem with my battery?

Hi,
Is there something wrong with my battery? This is the second time it has happened to me .. last time I left it overnight at 45% and when I woke up the phone was off, so I looked in battery usage and saw that it fell to 0 right from ~25%, and today, I was in an international call, and the call cut off and the phone shut down. It wasn't hot at all, I checked.
Is there some bug with the software, or is it a problem with my battery?
Can you check in the setting menu, where the battery is used for? There must be some or one thing, maybe a constantly updating widget, which is faulty, it really take me 1.5 days before my battery is flat with internet on all the time, and 3 days plus with internet off.
On the other hand I had the same with my lg a while ago and after a flash it was OK.
Sometimes these kind of phones behave very unpredictable....

Oh I'm not worried about the battery life, I was putting it through a lot of use.. and I have a lot of widgets updating frequently
My concern is with the sudden drop from ~25% to 0 which has happened twice now
your battery might be wrongly calibrated.Download battery calibrator from market.charge to 100%,click calibrate battery..it should fix your problem

This happened to me few times. The last time I noticed was from ~48% left it overnight (only about 6 hours) and I woke up to find the phone was off. Usually my phone loose about ~25% overnight. Not sure what or who is the culprit. I have flashed few firmwares and none fixed the issue. Currently I'm rooted using Generic World firmware with locked bootloader and removed many bloatwares.

I've this program installed and I'm sure it has not helped with this issue. I see "missing data" when there is a sudden loss of battery.
I´ve also the problem; my arc is not rooted, so there is no chance to calibrate the battery...?
Had it once, took the battery out and in again and it had 20% more again. Then I charged it at home and so far it works fine.

Thank you. I´ve taken out the battery for about 15 minutes and put it in. The percentage is still as before.
Is there another way to reset the batterystats.bin without root?
Well looks like many people are having this issue, either there are a lot of faulty batteries out there, or its a problem with the firmware. I'm leaning towards the latter.
I'm using Rogers 2.3.3, what are you guys using?

I experinced this issue with Singapore generic firmware as well as World Generic (current) firmware. Hence I don't think it could be a specific firmware issue.
Awake
Anyway to find out what or which program kept the phone to stay in awake? As you can see the screenshot, the phone was awake during random times and most of the time without the screen isn't on.
Sorry, no idea, perhaps someone else here can help
For me its probably something like latitude which I set to auto update

"Latitude"? How can I verify that it doesn't affect me
Latitude comes with Google Maps, its basically a location sharing feature. If you press the menu button in google maps you can click on latitude, then menu button again -> settings, and change from 'Detect Automatically' to 'Manual'
If you don't know what it is I doubt you actually have it enabled anyway, so it could be some weather widget maybe?

I checked and my menu reads as "Join Latitude" which means I have not enabled it in the first place (I guess so).
I'm using Beautiful widget for weather service so not sure whether that is the culprit.
I wish there is more visibility for this .
Thanks for your explanations .
Btw I tried the Supercharger script, and it has doubled my battery life

May be due to the "Green Power" application. I checked before and if I switch on the WiFi it is continues without any problem.
I too hope for the same as you. Annoying bug .
I have the very same problem. The phone battery goes from 100% to 66-64 over the night...showing that the Cell standby and Display has drained the most of the %...

Mediaserver is killing my battery!

Every day, I charge my Galaxy Nexus to 100% and in about two hours it's down to 15% regardless of whether I use it or not.
Every time I check on the battery, it says "Mediaserver 61%". Sometimes it's lower, sometimes it's higher. I barely have any media on the phone.
What do I do?
Come on, guys. My battery is dying!

Yes, I've tried that but it doesn't work.
As an example, I rebooted it before going to sleep. It had a 75% charge. When I wake up - 30% and mediaserver took up 65% of it.

Then it's either one of your apps is misbehaving and you'll have to find it and remove it, or you'll have to factory reset the phone. You can try installing BetterBatteryStats first and check under partial wakelocks to see what apps are always running that could trigger the mediaserver. It's at least something to try other than wiping the phone I suppose.

Android OS and Media using KILLING the battery life

Ok so I bought this phone on Monday. The very first day it gave me a mammoth battery life. I mean a ridiculous OST of 5h 45m 9s and still 7% juice left (screenshots attached in 2nd post).
And then the very next day issues started. First the Android OS... I charged my phone 100% and slept. Woke up and saw it at around 61%.. Shocked and unhappy. Googled a bit and by Noon I stopped a lot of Samsung **** going on at the back. Android OS became normal but MEDIA started to show its baddd side..
And just try to see in the screenshots, it shows the WIFI was on all time/all the time. However I never turned it on. It was off all night.
Screenshots are attached below. Would love some help/guidance here.
And one more thing. All of a sudden the Lock Screen's funky wallpaper has changed into a blue screen wallpaper that has some weird shortcuts ! Why is it happening. Restating the device brings back the same funky paint color wallpaper but then within minutes its back to the same sh*t.
First day usage SCs
do you have any screenshot(s) of the blue screen wallpaper with the weird shortcuts? I'm not experiencing any issues like this.
Don't you think you've touched it unconsciously while you're asleep with parts of your body that toggled the wifi and other stuff?
Try a factory reset

Oh factory reset sucks lol. By the way, I was reading from somewhere (android central forum i think) that to kill Android OS frome ating up all battery, install some CLEAR RAM app to clear your RAM.. which I did. And yesternight I figured out that this clear ram app changed my lockscreen itself..without asking me. So i deleted. Also, I deleted everything on SD Card and removed it. Now I dont know whats keeping the Android OS and MEDIA up all the time. The apps I have installed so far are:
skype, whatsapp, viber, sacebook and temple run. They were installed from day 1 so if they are creating problems, why didnt they create any impact on Day 1? And these are pretty normal apps which I dont think should create any problem.
Plus, wifi always on issue is resolved to by unchecking some option in wifi menu.

first l sympatise with you. There is no problem on Unrooted phone that factory reset cannot Solve except it is factory fault issue, but this is not factory Cos it was ok on day 1.
Your instant messager like Skype and BBM are mainly the applications that hog battery.
Ensure you did not restrict background processes in Developers option.
Ensure your wifi 'and GPS are off when you don't need them.
Don't install any process killer.
Stop auto update
put your phone in battery saving mode.
check to see If there is downloading process going on at background
Also see if there is live streaming (MEDIA SERVER) going on sites you visited like Youtube.
check the running processes in application manager in setting and check if any is constantly RESTARTING. Look for a way to stop such .
Above all try to wait for the research l did on BATTERY POWER AND DATA MANAGEMENT which I will post soon.
Good Luck

[Q] Battery drain on Carbon

So hey just a quick question if someone could help i'd love them forever...
So my Xperia S(lt26i) is having issues with draining its battery completely and utterly in a very short time. It loses 50% overnight(8-9 hours approx) and it didnt really do it before. I have a brand new battery in it, i did a factory reset and i just cant seem to figure out why its draining its battery like this. If i restart it, it instantly drops like 3-5 % on the spot. I'm running Carbon rom beta10, i havent overclocked it or anything. Can somebody tell what causes it? Is it some setting, or what?
Thanks in advance!

Edit: The software you linked doesnt seem to find anything, its getting crazy, it only sees the same analogclock-widget thingy receiver for all the running stuff.

Fc means Force Close" . It happens to apps when they suddenly stop responding and give an error.
Huh! Weird! It worked fine for Me on beta 10!
You didn't need it on beta 11 because from what I read, that problem was solved in this version and even I'm getting much normal battery life. And that is one massive drop! Did You check in settings what caused it?
Thanks again for the reply, somehow even beta 11 didnt solve it for me but the fresh install cleared out that buggy service so i could do the service kill, it works now properly, battery dropped ~10% overnight, although it did just drain itself for no reason in a few hours(just turned itself off again after some chrome update-.-) i hope i't wont start to do it again now, im gonna go nuts.

BatteryServiceUpdateStats_3 wakelock?

Hi, does anyone know what this wakelock is and how can i stop it? As you can see the app does not see it as a big problem because of 16s time bit number of wakeups is worrying - more than 4000..
You hardly find anything about that on the internet

Probably not.
They are most of the time not responsible for the Wakelocks but the first thing that's happening After awakening.
Also EVERYONE has them! No kidding!
You can have a factory Reset phone without Google account and you won't get rid of them

Is it safe to block them in amplify? Or should I leave then untouched?
Power Nap [Xposed Module] also blocks them. But it doesn't matter. Because they do not wake the phone, they happen when the phone gets awaken by something else.
Check this out (With Power Nap enabled and What's app excluded)
As you can see, almost no Userspace Wakelocks:
As always Google Services is the only thing you simply cannot shut up, no matter what
But yeah, the Problem is on the Kernel Level....
You see a Normal Wake due to an UserSpace Wakelock:
And one that's happening due to Kernel:
So as long as you have these Kernel wakes, the BatteryServiceUpdateStats_3 will activate at the same time. Batterylife itself is not really affected.

I started getting the BatteryServiceUpdateStats_3 wakelock a few days ago, tried different kernels and factory reset and no joy getting rid of it. It is affecting my battery life big time.
My phone stays awake and is draining at 7% per hour with the screen off. Lucky to be getting 7 hours of use out of it in a day with light usage...
So basically you are saying that an app is responsible for this?
I have this SAME EXACT wakelock and problem. I have researched it endlessly with 0 luck at all. This has been an issue regardless of running marshmallow or N, a different kernel, a different ROM, etc. This wakelock on top of the 10's horrible WiFi makes my battery life absolutely terrible. If I can't fix this within 2 months (when I reach a year paid off on my payment plan) I am selling this phone and upgrading because the battery life it so intolerable. If someone could shed any light on this wakelock that would be awesome.

Keep your WiFi turned off on your 10 and watch how much you standby drain improves lol...It's a faulty WiFi setup in the 10. I don't think it's software related either. I heard it's the physical placement of the WiFi antennae from @LeeDroid
