WM6.1 - MMS and selecting recipient by typing name - HTC Excalibur

Hello All,
I am using WM6.1. Has anyone figured out how to typle in a recipienta name into the TO: field? I am only allowed to type in numbers so I am forced to select via the contacts list. I tried searching for a solution as I thought I had a similar problem with MMS/SMS on WM6.
Thanks,
Jimmy

I do not think there is a solution to this you will just have to use the softkeys to go to menu and then add recipient... kinda sucks but I mean you got to do what you have to.

WM6 Default Messaging Path?

I've looked and looked, and searched...I guess I'm missing it. Does anyone knoe the default path for the Messaging "app" in wm6 for my launcher? I'd like to be brought to the screen where I can choose the account to send from. Thanks in Advance!
*bump* - Anyone?
If I'm posting a dumb question that's answered elsewhere just let me know that...
*oops...double post...*
FWIW, you SHOULD be able to use the topmost left button (with the envelope on it) to access the screen you're describing in one easy step. You should also be able to find it in the Start Menu, listed as Messaging.
Shortcuts in my version (Custel 2.5) show the executable as MSINBOX, but that's not an application name ... just a system label, of sorts. Maybe somebody else can id the actual file for you.

im confused by what your asking - you want it to, when you open Messaging, to give you the choice of which account?
Menu > Tools > Options > CHECK: Display account picker when opening messaging
and once youve opened it, hit the left and right, or keep tapping messaging to cycle through accounts - and the account is displayed in the top left taskbar
if thats not what you were asking, elaborate on what youre looking for and ill give my inputt

Not sure about the account selection screen, but for exec and command line options: \windows\tmail.exe -service, -cc, -bcc, -transport, -to, -subject, -body, -attach
eg. "\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS" -to "" -subject "" -body ""
If you just open messages, it will open the account selector. SO just find the shortcut for that (which is in Windows and the exe is tmail.exe) then it should go there. Good luck!

\windows\tmail.exe for the win!!! Thanks everyone Guess I should have explained I was looking for the executable name as opposed to the path...
thx again!

Text Messaging softkeys after change to WM6

With WM5, the softkeys were
Left softkey: New (text message)
Right softkey: Menu
after upgrading my Cingular 8525 to WM6 it is not that useful:
Left softkey: Delete
Right softkey: Menu
In effect, to create a new message I need to select Menu and then New.
Is it possible to assign New to the left softkey?

Nope, not if your talking about in the messages screen. You can, however, set a soft key on the today screen to New SMS.
this has been a problem since the leak of WM6, search around, can't remember if theres a solution or not because it doesn't bother me that much, most of the time i'm replying to texts.
Take a look here, and here.

Thanks for a quick answer. I have no idea why Microsoft decided that the typical action when going to Text Messages would be to delete a message and not write a new message. You may store hundreds of messages without noticing a dent in the available memory.
How to create a shortcut from the Today screen to New SMS or reassining one of the softkeys to this function?

Use softkey changer (attached). If it gives you the error "missing file tnsms" then drop the attached corresponding file in ur /windows folder.
Kiitos Karhu and thanks mcorrie1121. I will test your solutions.
The SoftKey.cab from the link in Karhu's post is the only thing needed. One item on the list of commands to assign to a softkey on the Today screen is "New SMS". Works perfectly.
If you do not mind one more tap you can also use WM5 New Menu - provides more options than just new SMS.

WM6.1 & SMS

I have a question. I'm not sure if it's WM6.1 related, or if it's built into the ShadoW..
But when i view text messages now, they show up as a "conversation" .. which i din't mind, but i can't seem to move the messages into another folder. Infact, i can't even create a new folder in the tree.
The "Move" option is still there, but i can't do anything with it. The reason i "move" the messages is to clean up work and personal related messages. now they're all stuck in my inbox.
Is it a feature of WM6.1? Or is it a feature of the ShadoW install?
i have some problem too
anybody have a solution ?
i want to work with old sms system
i was never able to create a folder for the sms, i dont think it s an issue about wm 6.1
Aliencurv,
I'm guessing that 6.1 uses threaded SMS, which is a new feature. The previous version of WinMobile (6.0) used the standard SMS format that you are used to.
I don't know whether you can deinstall this feature in 6.1 or if its cooked into the ROM. What I can tell you is that it is possible to create subfolders in 6.0 and move stuff around. I do this all the time.
If you can't deinstall threaded SMS from 6.1 and if sub directories are important, you may have to move back to 6.0.
I have to say I have only briefly beta tested 6.1 so I can't say for sure what you can do with folders. However 6.0 is as I have said above.
Hope this helps.

I also noticed that I can't forward any messages now under 6.1 like I was able to before

u can bro.. just select the conversation intended ..select the intended messages by scrolling up & down using your DPad/Jog Scroll (it will be highlighted as u move along), when done selecting, click menu, select forward.. u good to go..
added:
see screenshot below
Thanks for your reply but it seems that you have to be in a conversation in order to be able to forward and not with a message where i didn't reply. I'm not by my computer so I'll post a screen shot later.
You disable threaded SMS by using the following key:
HKCU\Microsoft\Inbox\Setings\OEM\SMSInboxThreadingDisable=DWORD:1

You could always create a new folder via "manage folders" prior to WM6.1, although now it greyed out, rather than non-existent.
For those who don't like the threaded SMS in WM 6.1, you can change its style to WM 6.0 by this key:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings]
"SMSAvailable"=dword:[COLOR="Red"]1[/COLOR]
Change 1 -> 0 and you'll have the old SMS

Nice! Once in a while i prefer to send/receive sms's the normal way. hehe
And when threading is disabled, i could do pretty much anything that i could do before like "Manage Folders" (create/delete folders) and move messages to/from a specific folder.
Thanks!

Just disable the threading feature using the registry tweak Cludyfa mentioned a few posts above. Disabling the threading allows you to "Manage Folders" and move messages around.
I have edited the registry and disable the "threading", but with this effect, the notification (sound or vibration) for new SMS is also disable (e.g. no sound and vibration when there is new SMS and easily miss SMS/MMS), regardless how I set it in the "Sounds & Notifications".
Just wonder anyone has similar experience?

yep, i tried the tweak on two different WM6.1 roms, there's no incoming sms notification when i disable threading. I just hope somebody discovers a tweak to remedy this.
I like the new threaded SMS a lot but unfortunately my messages (restored) from before do not show up - only SMS's after I installed a 6.1 rom - the only way to read previous SMS is by going back to the old (with the regedit mentioned in this thread) or using a 3rd party program like PocketCM - anybody know how to make older messages appear in the new threaded SMS?

Unhiding "Sent Items" folder in SMS

Hello!
I currently use Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM with threaded SMS function enabled by default. As I don't like it, I am turning it off every time when I hard reset, or flash new rom. But there is a problem, that I can't figure out - as long as I am using threaded sms, it is not necessary to have "Sent Items" folder, but when I switch to standard view, it is annoying that I can't read what I have just sent. So is it possible to unhide "Sent Items" folder in SMS view without changing things in rom itself?
SMS Tweaker
Not sure if this will do it or not but it is definitely worth having a look at and trying
SMS Tweaker 1.5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394219
Hope That works for ya,
- Philux-X
Oh, and I forgot to mention: Sent Items is hidden for sure. When I try to make new folder in SMS account and I name it "Sent Items", I will get an error saying that it is existing already.
I will try this program, thanks. I've tested smsOrganizer so far - no help here.
____
SMS Tweaker didn't helped me as well. Maybe there is an registry key, which will do the magic?
Hi i have the same problem..i have tried the program from the link..but with no change... any other ideas?
I had same problem on my HTC Wizard.
The SMS s were still there when I back-UPed it with PIMbackup.
I solved it with flashing with another ROM...
Sorry...

Incoming SMS' not displaying Japanese chars??

Hello, I just purchased this device and I have a problem..
I found out that when a friend of mine sends me an SMS with Japanese characters in it (or with symbols like these ★☆★), those are not being displayed as they should. They are instead replaced by question marks!!
I thought that maybe it was a font problem, but I couldn't find a way to alter the font in my phone without rooting it..!
Do you know of a way to alter this? I couldn't find something that seemed relevant in the options..
Thanks~
Do you have Japanese enabled in the settings?
It only takes 2 taps to thank somebody here.
which setting + what about the other special(?) chars?
Hello RedLedLight and thank you for the reply!!!!!!
Could you be a bit more specific? Which settings are you refering to? There's too many.. Are you refering to the system settings(where to find the one you want), or the settings of the stock messenger app?
Well, Japanese is not supported as an input method of the stock keyboard. That's why I had to download another one which would enable me to write in Japanese.. Still, I could write and send messages with Jap chars, but when I receive an SMS, then I'd just get question marks all over!
Also, any ideas as to the why those other chars are not being displayed? They're not Japanese.. In my samsung phone there's some symbols like ♡♥ºº•○●□■◇◆♧♣▲▼▶◀↑↓←→☆★▪ who ALSO appear as question marks when I send them to this phone!!! :S
