My HTC Kaiser running WM6 syncs with my companies Exchange server. Thus, I have to have their security policy enforced on the phone. This includes the usual: PIN, timeout, autowipe after 10 failed passwords.
However, one of the registry settings (I haven't figured out which, yet) is causing one of my programs to have file access issues.
When I restore the registry from before the security policy, everything woks fine. Within minutes, when the phone connects to the Exchange server, the policy is again enforced and the issue returns.
What I need to do is automate a registry change (maybe in a .bat file), so when I want to run the program, I can quickly change that registry value and launch the program. (Running a registry editor and restoring an entire .reg backup and reboot is not very practical.)
Any ideas if this is possible?
Thanks,
David
you can use mortscript to do this.
works very well.
basically, you write the few lines mortscript and then call it with the wrapper .exe
did this to toggle a few things on my ultimate by means of a button click.
Thanks. I hadn't heard of MortScript.
My problem turned out to be Direct Push. Turning off Direct Push fixed the file access issue. I have no idea how Direct Push causes a program to stall when scanning a directory.
But I will use MortScript to write a batch file to turn off Direct Push and launch my program.
Problem solved.

ActiveSync is crashing on my PPC just after it connects to the exchange server, there are no clues from the debug logs (the process completely disappears).
Is there any way of verifying the databases structure, any tools?
Failing that, is there a way of deleting the database and letting the whole thing just sync again? I'm using a server connection rather than syncing to a PC's outlook.
Thanks
load up activesync on the PDA go menu options.. then delete and voula all gone

Not sure I follow you, there's no option within Activesync to delete the files, and merely setting up the server again isn't going to do the job?
What I shopuld say is that deleting the exchange server specifically states that it isn't going to delete the files.
Ah, unticking before the delete, then deleting after the ok sounds like it may do the trick?
Bummer, unticked each of the options (email, calendar, contacts, tasks), it then said it would dleete them.
Went back into options, deleted the exchange server.
Re-added the exchange server, tried to sync, activesync gets as far as the server, then dies (process disappears from list).
I'm hoping not to have to do a hard reset
I get this error message each time I want to download any file using IE on WM6 - a pdf document, a cab file etc.
Am I the only one? can you try following a link pointing to a file using IE?
I am using WM6 Black edition 1.2 on the TyTN.
bTW, I've never seen that message on official WM5 roms, and my telco operator may have more of an incentive to restrict downloads than kyphur or whoever cooked the rom. Is there a cab out there that would lift the restriction?
thanks for your help.
Just an idea: haven't you installed an exchange account (mail) recently? I know that Exchange Server may apply some Security policies on a device, that is connected to it...
Check the reg keys for IE, there is something in the useragent which is stopping certain mime types from being downloaded through the broswer.
This feature has always been available but most operators didnt use it.

Click to collapse
yes I have. thanks for the pointer...
Is there any way of lifting this restriction without removing the Exchange account?
So no one has a solution for this?
I sync to Mac and so use Missing Sync from Markspace.
This worked well with WM5 Roms indeed, IMO more user friendly than ActiveSync.
The changes made in WM6 means that device will only look for PC with ActiveSync on (for security issues?) and so Missing Sync won't connect.
Markspace are dealing with this issue and in time will re-write to solve this issue however, it leaves me with a serious problem at the moment and possibly for some consderable time!
Has anyone managed to work around this issue, if so could you let me know.
Thanks

I can think of only one way, but you need Entourage on your Mac.
(1) Set up an account with 4smartphone.net
(2) Have Entourage sync with 4smartphone
(3) Have your Hermes sync with 4smartphone.
This works like magic. LIKE MAGIC I tell you. You change something on your Hermes, and - look ma, no hands - you go back to your Mac and the info has changed there too. And the other way around! and it is all pushed! GEEK HEAVEN.
They offer a trial period ... might just be long enough for MarkSpace to come up with a solution.
If you have Office for Mac installed, but do not use Entourage but instead use iCal, then you need to set up Entourage to sync with the iCal database. The option is somewhere in Entourage.
That's well and good, but only a partial solution. Entourage only syncs Email, Contacts and Calendar with an Exchange server. You'll still be missing out on Tasks, Notes, iPhoto and iTunes which Missing Sync takes care of nicely. I do hope MarkSpace works it out soon, but that's not likely to happen until there are some shipping WM6 devices available in the States...
I second that...
Man I really really need Missing Sync again!!!! I'm sure we're not the only ones
Is there a way to hack and reverse that security feature?
Cooks and cooders we can put a bounty on this!
Thanks for your advice nispen. I Have sorted out 4smartphone account as i run Entourage. I have had partial success in that have been able to sync to an exchange server but must have made a mistake somewhere as contacts in entourage are not being updated. This said, I have been able to get all addresses in one place - on phone and in Mac Address book so at least I'm halfway there!
Like spidy.web says, as the problem ultimatly likes within WM6 being secure - someone out there might be able to solve this problem - a reg edit or something?

Does anyone know of a quick way to achieve the following: I have a PAYG 3G contract, so I have Outlook set to download only message headers when I do a send/receive. I then download full messages selectively, to minimise my downloads.
What I want is to set up a 1-click way of configuring Outlook to download full message content (or at least the first 250k) but only when I'm tethered to a desktop. I then want a 1-click method of reverting back to "download headers only" when I disconnect from the desktop.
Can anyone think of a way of doing this?
you need to find the registry setting, then make one reg file for setting it to "high" and one to "low"
Hi TP2-ers!
Since using my TP2, ActiveSync continuously syncs it with my PC. When I used AS with my old PDA (QTEK 2020i) I could select manual sync, but this doesn't seem to be possible when connecting a WM6 device.
I tried all the tricks (changing registry entries Continuously Update and Update on docking to 0), the exchange server trick to enable the AS schedule button and setting it to manually, all to no avail...
I know of tools like ActiveSync Toggle, but I do not want to disable AS, I just want to sync manually when I think it's time to sync!
Has anybody out there been able to disable the autosync in AS in combination with the TP2?
Thank you very much for your reply in advance!
Kind regards,
Piet
