ActiveSync is crashing on my PPC just after it connects to the exchange server, there are no clues from the debug logs (the process completely disappears).
Is there any way of verifying the databases structure, any tools?
Failing that, is there a way of deleting the database and letting the whole thing just sync again? I'm using a server connection rather than syncing to a PC's outlook.
Thanks
load up activesync on the PDA go menu options.. then delete and voula all gone
Paul
Not sure I follow you, there's no option within Activesync to delete the files, and merely setting up the server again isn't going to do the job?
What I shopuld say is that deleting the exchange server specifically states that it isn't going to delete the files.
Ah, unticking before the delete, then deleting after the ok sounds like it may do the trick?
Bummer, unticked each of the options (email, calendar, contacts, tasks), it then said it would dleete them.
Went back into options, deleted the exchange server.
Re-added the exchange server, tried to sync, activesync gets as far as the server, then dies (process disappears from list).
I'm hoping not to have to do a hard reset

I've set the XDA to send/receive via outlook however, I cant find a setting to delete mail from server therefore when I then download from the PC I have to delete a load of mail that I've already read.
Is there a setting on the PDA to resolve this, or any other solution???
Rob.
Make sure you are using POP3 then when you delete the emails from the Inbox on your 3300, and then empty Deleted Items the next time you sync the mails will automatically be removed from the server too.
As for flagging that copies shouldn't be left on the server after a fetch I imagine there is a registry hack but no setting in the email application that I can see.

i have all my contacts in MS Outlook 2003... The sync with ActiveSync worked nice.... but if i now delet the relationship on my device in AS it deletes all my contacts on the phone because they belong to the partnership... is there any way to delete the partnership and keep the contacts?
If you've sync'd with Outlook already then your contacts will be safe on your PC. Let Activesync delete them from your PPC and then establish new partnership and download them back to the PPC.
I only noticed this happening on my O2 XDA Orbit recently. Not sure why but my contacts are all there thankfully.

thats impossible... when you delete the partnership it does not delete the Emails, Contacts or Tasks etc...
When you delete partnership it will ask you to delete synced FILES, but does NOT touch Outlook data.
i tried it again.... here is the procedure
No contacts on Phone
all contacts in outlook on PC
no partnerships on pc or artemis
create partnership...
sync contacts...
contacts now in outloo on pc AND on artemis...
delete the partnership in active sync ON THE PHONE...
all contacts are deleted from the device but remain in outlook
i want the following
sync the contacts and then delete the partnership on the device.. result should be that the contacts "belong" to the phone..
I did just this a few days ago, synced, deleted the Partnership and kept the contacts. Like Radek Hulán said, it asked me whether to delete synced files, i tipped Yes, the device worked a few seconds and then the partnership was gone, leaving the contacts and everything on the device.
Try Syncing the device, then disconnect the Phone from your PC and delete the Partnership on the Phone itself (For me it sounded like you deleted the partnership through your PC on your PPC) and if that doesn't help, do the Microsoft Trick: Just try it over and over again, with the same routine, after a few times it will work, it's always been like that
I have a T-Mobile Dash and am connecting it to several Windows XP machines using ActiveSync 4.5. I haven't been able to test this with an older version of ActiveSync because not one of the machines will let me fully uninstall 4.5 and install an older copy. The older install always insists that I have to install 4.5 even if I already have.
My problem is this: Any time I try to delete a relationship between a PC and my smartphone, Activesync deletes every one of my contacts off the phone.
Ideally, I would be able to sever the relationship between a computer and my PDA and keep all my contacts on my PDA. Near as I can tell, this is impossible. And it's apparently that way intentionally, though I can't for the life of me guess why. My contacts are being held hostage by my work laptop and nothing I can do can separate them from it.
It does not matter if I uncheck Contacts in the checkboxes of things to delete, it still deletes all contacts when any relationship is deleted.
The contact are still safe on the computer, but I simply *cannot* delete a relationship without losing all my contacts.
If I disconnect the phone from the PC and go into ActiveSync, only the following menu options are supported:
1. Options
2. Schedule (grayed out)
3. Status
4. Add Server Source
5. Connections
6. Connect via Bluetooth
None of the above options allow me to delete a relationship specifically. Just choose what items I plan on syncing or what connection (USB/IR/Bluetooth) I might want to connect with.
If I choose 1. Options, I'm presented with the checkboxes to select what things I want to sync with my PC.
[X] Contacts
[_] Calendar
[_] E-mail
[_] Tasks
[_] Favorites (grayed out)
[_] Files (grayed out)
[_] Media (grayed out)
If I uncheck "Contacts" and click "Done" I'm presented with this <sarcasm>wonderful</sarcasm> dialog box:
"To proceed, ActiveSync must remove all Contacts synchronized to your device using ActiveSync. Select OK to continue"
My question is **WHY??** WHY can I not sever the connection between the computer and my contacts??? Who programmed this abomination that thought that permanently tying them together irrevokably was a GOOD idea?
Hi all,
I had the same problem and found a workaround. ActiveSync will delete those contacts/... only if they belong to only one relationship and if you try to delete this particular relationship. So, what is the solution? Assign your contacts to two sync relationships! If you delete either of them, the contacts will not be touched.
In my case, there was a sync relationship to mail2web.com for push email and another relationship to the PC for contacts. After reinstalling the PC's OS I needed to delete the old relationship. I was able to preserve the contacts by syncing them first to mail2web.com.
Good luck!
Regards,
Michael
PS: I have to add that it is very useful to have a functional backup program for your mobile phone. Sprite Backup works very nicely for me.

I have the same problem with my HTC Diamond (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437729). BUT unlikely I can´t get my contacts by new relationship to my phone back now. ;o(
the default setting for my Active Sync is "replace items on phone". So when I initially setup my Orbit, all the data on my PDA are being wiped out, including the contact.

Alright guys...
I sorta figured a way around all this. So if you've gone and sync'd your device to your PC, not knowing that your data will dissapear from your device if you delete the partnership... The simplest way is to get a backup software, such as SPB Backup or Sprite Backup and back up only your PIM info (contacts, calendars, etc.). Next delete the partnership you don't want to have anymore. What I did with mine was I deleted ALL partnerships I had (Exchange and PC), and so I had nothing on there. Then restore the PIM file back and you should have all your contacts and calendar info, only but you don't have any partnerships. You can now re-setup partnerships with different sources, just make sure you uncheck the stuff u don't want sync'd I hope that helps.
I don't know if this is help to anyone but this is not an ActiveSync problem at all, it is WM6.1 problem.
You ask how do I know that for sure, I'll explain...
I used to have a WM5 phone until I replaced it few days ago with a WM6.1 phone (HTC Jade)
The ActiveSync I use on my Windows XP PC is 4.5 and I have not changed it with the new phone.
Before, with my WM5 phone I used to Sync my contacts with my phone and then delete the partnership with my phone every time, then create a new partnership each time I reconnect. Maybe you think its strange but this how I used to do it.
My phone contacts were never deleted, EVER EVER EVER on the coarse of 2 years.
Now Yesterday I connected my new mobile WM6.1 for the first time to add my Outlook contacts to it, disconnected and did what I always do which is delete the partnership with my phone. I later reconnected the phone to install an application and then BAM all my contacts are GONE.
So you see the ActiveSync 4.5 app is the same but with WM6.1 it behaved differently which definitely means this a bug or by design in WM6.1 ONLY and not older windows mobile versions.
It also have nothing to do with Windows Vista like someone previously said because my pc OS is Windows XP SP2.
Its another Microsoft mess that we have to fix or live with.
I wonder when are they going to take their work seriously?
Can anyone come up with a tweak or registry fix in WM6.1 to fix it?
Solution that worked for me
I think I figured out a good solution - wored for me.
Go to your My Device Root folder in the File Manager. Copy the pim file, then paste it in another folder on the device to back it up.
Go to Active Sync - delete the relationship.
Now for the scary part - go to your Contacts and they are all gone.
Go back to you My Device root, rename your pim file to something like pimOLD. Then go get your backed up copy, and paste it back into your default My Device folder.
Scary again, go to Contacts, they are all gone. Now the act of desperation - I did a hard boot (removed the battery) - restarted the device. Device now see's your new PIM, contacts are all back - yet no Active Sync relationship. YEA! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
So I downloaded wm6.0, 6.1, 6.5 and 5.0 simulators from Microsoft. I tested deleting partnership with each of those (On Windows Mobile itself). So it seems that 6.0 and 6.1 have this problem and delete your personal information when u delete the partnership. 5.0 and 6.5 did NOT delete the contacts/calendars/tasks upon deleting the partnership.
At this point backing up your /PIM.VOL file is the best way of backing up your data if you have to delete partnership.
Also pim backup is a nice freeware that accomplishes the same thing.
Unfortunately I do not have a windows mobile device now but when I had my Tilt, I remember deleting the partnership so many times and I never had this problem.
Wonder if it's related to the build of Windows Mobile.

Like many who probably frequent this board I like to experiment with my device and will wipe my PPC every couple of weeks. I also have been syncing with Exchange through ActiveSync but was looking for a way to severe that Exchange sync relationship without loosing all of my 300+ contacts on the device. I was also looking for a way to backup those contacts to another source so I wasn't locked down to an Exchange sync via ActiveSync to get them back again.
I recently discovered the Microsoft MyPhone application which will let you back up your data to their server. Unforunately it will not backup data that is currently being synced with Exchange.
Using the method suggested by mkrumpe about manually backing up and replacing the PIM file I was able to break my relationship with the Exchange server and then recover my PIM data. Once I did that I was then able to back up my data with Microsoft MyPhone since it no longer picked up the Exchange sync relationship.
I thought this same info and process might benefit others as well who want to break a sync with Exchange, recover their previously synched data and find another non-exchange method to back up this data.
Now I have a way to backup my contacts without having to use Exchange and I was able to keep all 300+ contacts even though I deleted the Exchange sync relationship and may not go back to synching with Exchange (do to upcoming policy changes at my company)

Always do a Sprite Backup
I am currently using WM6 and am trying to get EMail through our Exchange server setup; however, my Dash s620 will not properly save the server's address.
The address for our OWA is (ex) mail.email.com:8888/exchange
and this address works fine in Internet Explorer etc, but when I enter this into the phone it removes the /exchange and only saves up to :8888, which then gives me "Error synchronizing" when trying to connect. Our Exchange server does have Exchange ActiveSync enabled along with Direct Push enabled.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
I think that you have to check your ActiveSync settings on Exchange. I know that Microsoft have a lot of KB's about that.
It does the same thing on mine, erases exchange, but mine is cool. Are you sure you are putting in the Domain?

Yeah I've tried every which way I could think of for the login credentials.
I'll sift through some more MS articles tomorrow afternoon, see if I can't find anything... baffled though, really.
K this is going to be a huge PITA I can tell.
I adjusted the Virtual Directory for the default web site in Exchange System manager to point directly to /exchange, eliminating the need for anything after the :8888. It works fine in IE etc, quickly brings up a login prompt. Using the phone's IE and going to the http://mail.email.com:8888 works fine, prompts a login accordingly...
I configured a coworkers Blackberry to use our OWA and it works fine, but I'm not sure if it uses Push Email (Exchange ActiveSync).
What is it about the Dash that won't mesh? The server is not using SSL so I couldn't see it being a certificate issue (maybe it still is?). Is there anyone around who manages an Exchange Server and could perhaps shed some light on common settings that need to be adjusted for Exchange ActiveSync?
Such a nuisance
ActiveSync on the phone reports "The server could not be reached. Please verify the server name." Support code: 0x80072EE7
It reports back with this no matter how I enter the address (which again, works fine in IE). Devil phone
8888 is definetly not standard for publishing ActiveSync.
the software will connect to either MailServer:80 if the SSL checkbox is cleared or MailServer:443 if the checkbox is checked.
don't think you'll get ActiveSync connect to something else.
Why don't you change your port back to 80?
you are already exposing your server to internet without any form of protection (no SSL so your password can be sniffed over the network) and having port 8888 buys you nothing in terms of security since any port scanner will report the port as opened and eventually get the HTTP banner from the IIS Server.
So, get back to a standard config and you'll love your DASH again.

hi everyone,
i've got this error now which says "Cannot synchronize with Outlook profile you are using, because a different profile was previously set up or the profile is password-protected
Please open Outlook using the appropriate profile."
please please please how do i solve this i've not been able to sink my contacts, calender and notes back in and its going to destroy my week if i dont resolve this problem.
thanks so much in advance,
jason
Well, sync errors like this typically occur at one of 2 places. EITHER the connection between Outlook/Exchange and ActiveSync OR between ActiveSync and your Device.
What have your tried so far? Simply removing the device from ActiveSync on the main computer solves this error most often. The other deeper, yet common fix is to uninstall BOTH Outlook and ActiveSync, then reboot and re-install and recreate the device profile with ActiveSync.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply Nate,
I've tried removing the partnership from activesync and deleting active sync from my computer and restarting. But that does not cure the problem
If i completly uninstall office and activesync. Will my contacts be there when i reinstall? Also, this is rather stupid, but if i uninstall office, my documents will still be on my harddrive right?
thanks in advance.
Jason
i'm willing to uninstall office, please can someone tell me how to backup my contacts, calender and notes.
or will this remain on my computer and once i reinstall office it will go back in.
stab in the dark .....
have you actually fully reset your device and also turned your pc off and restarted it fully....???
i have similar problems using outlook, but always find a reset of either of both devices cures the problem.....
yes i have done that.
its now a outlook problem isnt it?
how do i delete profiles from outlook 2007? maybe that will solve it.
please anyone, feel free to give me ideas on how to solve this
Correct, it seems like an Outlook issue now. My experience with Outlook 2007 is limited so I'm not sure if it follows the rules of previous versions, but in the past ALL of your outlook information is stored in 1 file with a file extension of .pst. Run a search on your PC for a *.pst file and tell us what it finds. Assuming that you find one then O2007 follows the same conventions as earlier versions. If you find multiple, then save them all. Bear in mind that the actual email account settings are kept separately from the .pst file and you will have to either export/import them or just recreate the email account after reinstall.
Uninstall Outlook/Office and then REBOOT! Then Re-install.Go into outlook 1st and go through the initial email account setup, then run a search for .pst files again and drop the most current down over top of the one newly created with the re-install.
Let us know how it goes and remember to go slow.
If you google for the error code 8503001f and also the other one you posted about, 85010014, they both point to errors within microsoft outlook itself - one possibility is due to upgrading outlook and having/creating multiple profiles.
There are too many links to post but I saw a few which appeared to include good solutions - some of these are direct from the microsoft support site.
Don't know if this helps but I found thousands of hits with what appears to be your problem.

For Profiles in Outlook 2007:
Control Panel > Mail > Profiles
BACK UP YOUR MAIL!!
File > Import / Export.
Export as file
PST
Save it.
Now delete all profiles in Control Panel > Mail > Profiles
Then just create one profile and call it outlook
Then restore your data.
thanks so much for the reply guys.
i dont know what the hell is up with outlook but after uninstalling active sync and removing my email account from outlook it syncing again.
very fustrating and thanks you guys again for your input. its great to know people like you guys are here to help.
cheers again

p.s. i think its because i upgraded from office 2003 to 2007 that cause so many conflicts.
Anyone else having this issue? I am using Hotmail in Excahnge Activesync on my Droid Incredible. When I delete mail on my phone it keeps showing up as new messages everytime the activesync syncs. If i delete the mail using my pc, the messages will be deleted from the phone. I want to be able to delete using my phone and not the pc all the time.
Delete the account from your phone and when you re-add it, make sure you choose "Imap." The situation you are presently in results if "POP3" is selected upon initial sign up because your email remains on the server.

I am selecting exchange activesync so that the mail on the server and on the phone are synced together
I do not have a Microsoft Exchange Active sync account but I do configure email on my phone. I believe you must specify the email protocol (you want "IMAP") via your desktop email according to Microsoft's support site here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123484.aspx
and here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124107.aspx
With the exception of Microsoft Exchange Activesync, each of the other email settings on your phone app allow you to specify POP or Imap upon initial setup when you select "manual setup."
Hello all.
When i delete an e-mail in my Active Sync on my device, that email totally dissapears instead of being moved to the recycle bin. In consequense to that (i think so), that e-mail is NOT deleted in the server (Office365) and stays at the inbox.
However, If i choose (on my device) to move an e-mail to the recyle bin, that normally goes there, and in consequence, that email is moved to the recyble bin in the server too (and is not in the inbox then).
Have you got an idea?
Thank you
