I'm working getting a build together, but am a little out of touch with what's the latest and most popular cab's going around.
If you can, please post or PM me samples of what you'd like a new rom to work with. Idealy they'd be dialpads, comm managers, today screen, etc. I'll do what I can to be sure they work with the base build.
It's currently at 82.74 Storage and 30.18 Program, with just camera 4.0 installed. Testing battery usage and stability...

And a welcome return to the kitchen sir
The file manager dutty (the old dutty) released a while back which is based on GSFinder+ is a great file explorer to use, JJ released the black ROMs for a while with it.
Gimme a sec i'll get the files zipped up.......done
I ALWAYS use it, support for zips and just runs RINGS around the stock file explorer.
Current chefs I like
Are CRCinAU and Abusalza (PDACorner)
I haven't seen any compressed or big storage ROMs that work well with activesync with exchange 2k7.
In my opinion HTC Home is a must as it has the launcher, the weather, the profile settings.
Some people don't like it because of it takes up so much realestate, but I beg to differ because of the features above.
I also would like setaccousticparam.exe to run upon install of a ROM it helps a lot with sound, PDACorner V19 and most of the DVH roms are good like this.
Split MMS, with arcsoft MMS 4.2.81 is also wanted. and of course the 1% battery DLL would be good too.
What I like is storage, stability, and looks, which I am unable to find them combined together! Oh I also like video calling and am a heavy data user.
CRCinAU is coming out with something real special, might worth talking to him. But again, his hasn't got the looks I want, I like nice icons, some sounds while clicking and colours on the task bar, come on it's a 2 year old gadget, let's spice it up a bit! What MS CE OS build are you working with?
As for files, PDACorner has a bunch of cabs that works with most builds these days including CRC's
Further thoughts on naked light roms:
I don't understand why people look for such ROM, as far as I can see your SD Lists are as long as a trip to Bombay! Might as well get them cooked in, the necessities as they are what we all use. I am happy at least with PDACorner with the different things well cooked in, speed and not compromising stability. I am only putting the heads up on the returning chef. Let's face it I am lazy, and who isn't sorting out SD config list compatibilities etc. I like nice icons I like colours on my task bar, I don't like S2U2 at times it conflicts with BT voice commander commands as far as microsoft goes.
Further thoughts again, you guys should stick to one chef, and get them to make things the way you like it and reward the damn chef accordingly. I see people jumping from chef to chef, and yet I see some chefs only make so little from what is considered as a full time job.
These are only my 2c

I like iContact, but PocketCM is ok too.
I generally install UltimateLaunch myself (via Sashimi auto-install), so I prefer a Rom that doesn't waste space with anything else. With that I use TodayAgenda, and other 3rd party apps for weather, etc.
Don't like Big Storage. Also staying away from compressed ROMs.
Do like big Program Mem.
Lately I've mostly played with ROMs from CRCinAu and PDACorner.
Stability and Speed are the most important. Since I'm not a data user, I tend towards the "Lite" ROMs, since I figure most stuff I can install myself (tho I get the impression some things run faster if cooked in? Haven't unravelled that mystery yet).
For Comm Mgr I am not too picky.. however its nice to have a ROM where either a) the CommMgr has a vibrate button or b) push-and-hold on the Comm button toggles that (yes I can install after, so not a big deal)
For dialer, the bigger the buttons, the better, and easy access to call-history and contacts list (recently there has appeared an infinitely un-useful IMO
screen when you "hide keypad" before making any call.. seems to be more a function of the ROM than the dialer tho...)
Looks are nice.. function is better.
Any task manager is welcome.
matt isn't this for a naked ROM for the kitchen that you use to do where we can install cook our own apps in? If so then theres no need to have HTC home or any other crap loaded as you can cook it yourself.
ANYWAY matt I'm glad to see you back and can't wait to try out the kitchen with new ROM..
here are some cabs..all of these work with the latest 6.1 ROM's
Don't forget Call Firewall. Personally I use Total Commander instead of File Manager, but that's personal taste. I'm not a fan of the S2(fill in the blank), and definitely not a fan of any menus with large fonts.
Would also like to have a theme where the top/bottom bars are glossy black, and just a plain black background (not the diamond background)
Thanks for the feedback and especially the files!
After I'm sure it's good and stable, I'll open the "pandora's box" and get a new kitchen setup for the masses.
Most of my old OEM Packages are outdated, so there's lots of work to do to get new ones built from around the site.
realty clean clean latest build AKU 1.3.3 (no MMS, NETCF,office, HTC Home) compressed with big storage will be very welcome

Agreed..
I think some people think your actually like making a full ROM or something which is not the case. For those who don't know he makes a very clean naked ROM and releases with the kitchen and OEM packages so you can COOK your own apps in and make it the way you want.
So it might save some time and not ask for a bunch of apps cooked in..Provide some cabs and maybe there will be an OEM version of it.

Yes it does. I've using it for a week now and works perfectly.
people here says right things, but few corrections. htc home, snaps tools, and .net3.5 difenetly must be included. as for me no need to include ms office and mms. maybe you need to include dutty task manager, and sort of comm manager which allow to use 10- buttion stile. and personal reqest from me - cab whith dialpad, I'm from ukraine - so english dialpads not for me. and if you provide cab I will translate it by myself.
you doing great things - wish you inspiration, and if you need some photoshop work with rom - my icq in profile, will help whith pleasure.

I'm liking Windows Mobile "XDA Live"
as the name in honor of all XDA-Dev has done for us.
I'll be keeping this post updated with progress/news.
Understand that I can not release this Rom without the approval of my source, they need to protect their livelihood. The second I'm given the go ahead, the floodgate with open but until then I simply can't unless I want to burn a good source who put a lot of trust in me.
My primary goal is to get an uncluttered Rom that is useful from the start, think Faria-lite..
If everyone is good and doesn't keep me from getting this done, I will release the scripts that I am using to build & rebuild this rom easily so that each of you can confidently do exactly as I am. I can release the scripts maybe this weekend regardless of the status of the Rom because they are independent of the Rom you are cooking.
Quick FAQ:
Q: Can we get a "Clean" version of the Rom.
A: When released there will be several packages:
"Clean OS" Rom with only HTC-X and Comm Button Toggle Vibrate Fix integrated.
"Hit the Ground Running" Rom with several useful apps embedded (you will be able to disable everything that is embedded) and operator Customizations within easy reach.
Hermes Rom Cookbook, which will include the scripts and tools I am using to do this and instructions on how to apply these to any Hermes Rom.
.nb file only releases for those who want to only swap out the OS ('cause we like our splash screens)
Q: Will WMXL (Windows Mobile XDA Live) fix my corrupted radio bootloader or otherwise bricked Hermes?
A: If the other tools here can't do it then don't bet the farm on WMXL doing it. The Flashing tools are still the same, no magic pill here.
Q: Can you Add XXXX or why not use ZZZZ instead of the App you chose.
A: I have been selective of the apps I am embedding. They may not always be the best at what they do but they are easy to use and small. I will not install 5 different apps with the same function. By having one or two apps you will use embedded you will save plenty of Program Memory to be able to comfortably install the Task Manager, MP3 player or Coffee Temp Monitor of your liking.
Q: Kyphur you are such a Guru, how can I be like you?
A: Remember that my head is in the clouds on this one only because I'm standing on the shoulders' of giants. This project owes it's very existence to many other contributers here and they deserve as much if not more of the cudos than I do. The is a team effort, please support everyone who made this possible. (See my post here). I have been a member her for only 15 months give or take but I have spent more time reading than doing or posting.
Q: If you embed a program into the Rom how can I remove it (to save memory).
A: You can't remove file that are in the Rom. You can remove the Shortcuts to the programs. Again I will repeat that programs in the Rom do not consume any memory. If you don't want the program simply ignore it and it will not harm you.
Q: I have more questions...
A: Read the thread.
Current Status:
I have removed the list ofToday (.tsk) Themes for this Rom. Click here for Images of all the Themes I have collected. I've decided that instead of embedding them all, I will remove all but the default Crossbow Theme and maybe create a custom WMXL (Windows Mobile XDA Live) Theme.
The rest of the collection will be packaged together so everyne can pick and choose their themes. If we figure out how to create a custom Ext_Rom.nd then I will put them there along with Carrier Data & MMS Settings.
I have integrated the following Applications:
Dictionary Editor
HTweakC v2.1
MS Hearts for PPC
PHM Registry Editor ** Will not be replaced by Total Commander...
SMS Backup
StartClean
VJCandelaLite (Flashlight)
I know everyone has their own list of apps they'd like to see but I have chosed these because they are small, simple to use and ADD functionality to the Rom.
I have integrated the following Registry Fixes:
By default only the Date Plugin is enabled (and it is set to a single line).
The Today Screen says "XDA Live" and the about screen shows " - XDA" after the OS Build Number.
Pressing & Holding the Comm Button toggles the between Vibrate & Normal.
PDAViet Memory Leak Fix is Applied.
Disabled the warning for Unsigned Applications (Application Lock)
Misc:
I have added two "Classic RingTones, (OldPhone-US.wma and OldPhone-UK.wav) for those of us who want to get away from the music and chirping Ringers.
I have removed all carrier customizations, no need to soft reset to avoid customization!
Current Known Issues:
The only real issue is that I am bound by a promise to my source to not distribute this Rom until the Carrier releases it or I can get ALL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION removed from it. trust me, I am working on it but there is absolutely no room for errors. Ironically the Rom seems more stable since I've modified it than it was when I received it.
Goals to work on:
Embed TCPMP v0.71RC and Codex Files.
Dropped or moved to low priority:
Voice Command Abandoned... It was proving too troublesome and there are too many reasons (language and dialing rule differences) to not embed it.
Dropped embedding a replacement Calculator, two many personal preferences, they are all lightweight and we can each add our fav later.
As for adjusting how the memory is used, if someone knows how to do that I'm all ears but if it requires shifting things in the image and hex editing it then I think we might hit the NAND Block Issue again.
BTW, this truly is a group effort.
Without pof & team unlocking I never would have even gone looking for the base Rom.
aChef by aklok_hk is doing the heavy lifting.
Sleuth, ShogunMark, Faria ViJay555, Bepe, Maimach have all been instrumental either directly or indirectly in this project.
Des and the SSPL was another step that got me to this point.
Of course there are all of the guys who have been doing this before I bought my first PPC Phone, they blazed the trail I simply walk behind them.
Finally, I can't forget my unnamed source. They took a big change passing this along to me. Without that trust I'd be cooking AKU 3.3 right now.

Today themes are small, I would like to include the HTC Standard as well as Carrier Themes for at least the major carriers just as a way to allow us to brand this Rom without having to use any of our storage memory.
Initial Rom will not have any added apps, just clean & stable though I might embed The Hermes Tweaker.
This will be great. I am all for a minimal clean rom. No Addons just crossbow. HTC is fine for me. Just my opinion.
Can't wait.
Thanks

Plans to release...
First I will confirm that this IS NOT an AKU 3.3 Rom.
I have successfully removed most of the identifying info that could lead back to my source (I believe).
Now I'm adding a few things back in like the Press & Hold Comm button for Vibrate Toggle Fix, Today Themes for Carriers and my favorite Ringtone (OldPhone.wma).
I am waiting for a response from my source regarding the info I've cleaned out (I want their approval before I share as I don't want to burn my source).
I hope that this will all happen in less than 1 week.

AHHH! But aren't we getting ahead of ourselves? I see you have WM6 on that pic. What if he's acutally ported Linux to it? Uhhh... wait a second, nevermind.
Nice, I suspect this will be a BIG relase, nice work!
now that people are cooking up some ROMs now, maybe someone can make seperate .cab files for different carriers with all the data settings in it so we can load our internet settings right away after we install cooked ROMs...
A good thing to add to the ExtROM COULD be a feature i noticed on an early iMate rom i used on my hermes. When it was going ahead with the "customisation..." screen it would ask what carrier you are on?! Then IT would apply the appropriate GPRS/MMS settings?!
May be just laziness on my part but would be a COOL feature.

I'm at work now, but from the dutch Qtek site www.qtek.nl you can download a cab file with all the settings from the dutch telecom providers.
If you can't find it I can upload it when I get home tonight.
Would be good If we could collect all the Operator cabs and maybe put them on the ftp?
Probably better than clogging up a ROM with them!?
(LOL il get to work TRYING to track down the O2 one)
Settings Files
Here's Imate and Telstra .tsk, if still needed. Thanks for your great work!
here's the dopod 838 pro .tsk
Does the new os actually close programs or still leave them open when you tap the x-button? If so, what about adding HTC_X-Button.cab?
People can always turn it off if they don't want it.
I also load the two tools below, I think just about everyone uses psshutxp and dictionary editor allows you to get rid of those annoying words you misspell and your phone remembers.... They are all pretty small, but extremely useful.

if you need a quicktool that can select what to install i can whip that up in c real quick
oli, i wouldnt cook the gps driver just yet.. we need to play with it on wm6.0 to see if its ok..

As you can see, my list of imbedded apps is intentionally short:
1-Calc Lite (replaced Calculator Shortcut in Start Menu)
HTweakC v2.1
PHM Registry Editor
SMS Backup
StartClean
Microsoft Voice Command v1.6 (US)
HTweakC might see some updates but that would be easy to install the new version over and only loose would be the benefit of saving storage Rom.
By embedding these into the Rom we save several Megs of Storage RAM.
Okay, I'll also confirm this is WM6
Also, added Telsta.tsk, i-mate Grass.tsk, i-mate Swoosh.tsk.
I will not be adding other apps to this Rom. If someone wants to gather carrier Data Connections Cabfiles I would be happy to embedd them directly into the Rom (these settings seldom change).
I think I will add the 8525 eyboard Fix Cab file (but not install it) into the Rom.
Currently working on an XML error in the section of code that would place Voice Command into the Rom.
The other apps are all considered stable versions.

Once I have it in good I can easily generate a parallel Rom without it (I am writing scripts to run the tools which build the Rom so skipping sections is trivial.

I myself don't need PHM Registry Editor since I'm using Total Commander with its integrated registry editor plugin, which I find easier to navigate the registry. And I don't need yet-another-way-too-simple-calculator and would prefer a scientific one with RPN (I always hit the wrong keys on non-RPN-calculators ), like RayRPN.
But if having his preferences on the device is the price to pay for using this "very special rom"... well, as long as we're able to hide them from the start menu/programs menu, I'll gladly pay it

You can delete the shortcuts for anthing you don't like.
Personally I use Resco for Registry & File operations but PHM is simply and requires not install so you have Registry Editing out of the box.
I'll look at RayRPN, I just hate the stupid PPC Calc (still same as the old CE Calc). I love the tip calculator and unit conversion functions of 1-calc.
Again once the integration is done, I can easily generate a 100% plain Rom with no carrier tsk files, images or settings. I figue I'll make use of the time while I wait for approval to release....

Hi kyphur,
I think you can consider to put in the rom the ext rom unhide!
Welcome to Dopod Lite (now D-Lite!)
Latest version is SuperD-Lite! (Links at bottom) If you are new to my roms, I suggest you read through this first post and the rest of the thread so you understand where this is coming from.
There are lots of nice roms out there. So, why put out another? Well, everyone's different, and I think there are folks out there who may be looking for this.
Note: For V1.2 and V1.1 changes, see below! I am leaving the links for V1.0 and V1.2 because they work great, and avoids hassle for those who don't want to bother putting in their own Java VM, (V1.1 and 1.2), or want to use this as a base for further cooking. (Won't work in V1.2)
From my own testing and use, the latest stock WM6 Hermes Dopod rom has proven to be the fastest and most stable of the current official WM6 roms. This is supported by the fact that a number of the well known chefs are using it as their base. (Sleuth, Shaps, and some others) I've been running my own version for awhile now, and am very pleased with it: its ability to sleep and play music, its skip-free A2DP, and its speed.
However, it has a moderate amount of bloat, which can be removed to make it better.
I have stripped the following: Transcriber, Windows Live, VOIP, Voice Commander, Autoupdate, Catalog, Error Reporting (though it still shows in Settings), SQM, Ceipui, Calculator, ClearVue pdf reader, Zip, the less-used ring tones, and the standard movie clip. Probably some other things too. I have also compressed some files to gain free storage space.
The result is a fast, stable rom, with a minimum of clutter, which performs all the basic functions very well thank you: Phone, Internet, Java, Office 2007 (without OneNote), GPS, etc. etc. It is ripe for customizing in your own special way. If you want it to become a developer rom, add that stuff. Add custom themes? Go ahead. Add functionality? Ready and waiting. There's plenty of free memory and storage space: 30.06 meg, and 59.51 meg respectively (V1.0, 6mb page pool). I could have added a few meg to program memory by reducing the page pool from 6meg to 4meg, but I chose not to do that in the interest of maximizing stability and functionality.
I have altered the initial customization routine to do only the basics: set hspda, set acoustic parameters, and a few registry settings. It does not access the extended_rom, so you are free to do what you want with that.
You will have to choose your own radio (or leave the one you have). You will likely want a replacement calculator (there are lots of good ones). You may want a voice dial program (take your pick). You will have to add your own carrier settings. (Cabs are around for most of these.) The start up screens you currently have will stay there. This is an OS only flash.
If people have suggestions and links for additional functionality, feel free to post them!
If you have never flashed a rom before, take care to follow the excellent tutorials available before doing it for the first time. Your Hermes device can be ruined otherwise.
I will try to fix bugs, etc. but this rom is best suited for those who can troubleshoot things for themselves. This is a hobby, and I can't guarantee I'll be around everyday to help with issues. However, I really don't expect a lot of problems, and you can look on the Dopod release thread for some help with things as well. (Not to mention the rest of the site!)
See second post for more screen shots (5 pic limit/post), capture screen program NOT included in rom. Memory stats are as above, not as pictured, because I had that program and file explorer loaded and running.
Version 1.0 links, Includes Tao Java 10_1_7_575 built in, 6mb page pool. Time-tested stability and performance.
V1.0 Rapidshare Link
V1.0 Megaupload Link
Version 1.1: Offered with some trepidation, however since Schaps decided to package two alternative Java VM's I thought I'd give people a choice. In this version I have also decreased the page pool to 4mb, which makes me a bit nervous, but seems to be running ok for me. The final memory results are remarkable: Free storage memory is 61.03 mb, and Free program memory is 32.07 mb at cold boot after customizations! See post for further discussion. (Update: I have added a 6mb page pool version for those who have issues with the 4mb version.)
V1.1 4mb PagePool Rapidshare Link
V1.1 6mb PagePool Rapidshare Link
V1.2 Update: In this version I have gone even further, by removing all .rgu files from the V1.1 base. This eliminates about thirty-five file entries in the Windows directory, and frees up about 200K of additional storage memory. For some operations, this should increase rom speed even more than its already "blistering" pace. The downside to this is that it is unsuitable for those who want to use it as a base for their own cooking. (Except for the RomDonald kitchen, which should still work.)
V1.2 4mb Page Pool Rapidshare Link
V1.2 6mb Page Pool Rapidshare Link
SuperD-Lite: Based on V1.2, and incorporating bepe's new technology of melding extended_rom and storage rom, this version boosts available storage memory to 71mb. Be aware that this flash will wipe out your extended_rom partition. If you are coming from another chef's or stock rom, you will have to reload all your apps, etc. If you are upgrading from one of mine, that is still probably safest, but you can check my last post for an optional method.

Solitaire & Bubble Breaker Question
Hello Edhaas,
Thanks so much for this lite version!!
I was wondering if you have the cabs for Solitaire and Bubble Breaker (when you extracted them I was wondering if you kept them). I have searched and am unable to find them. It seems like they should be readily available but I am unable to find complete versions of their cabs.
Thanks again for this version and your time,

thanks for the base.. i wanted one that i could customize according to my needs
Hi,
Thanks I also wanted a lite rom. Just wanted to ask, since u said it's based on the latest official dopod rom, is it exactly the same with just those apps removed? No special tweaking, interpollating of other devices' roms, other imgfs, etc? (like what the other chefs are doing).Just the official dopod rom itself?
Edhass, care to provide some screen shots?
Edhass, you just did what I was contemplating doing last night!
Kudos for removing that ugly calculator with the buttons I can barely hit with my fingers. I never understood why some chefs left in that calculator while they blinged up the today screen and added nice dialpad skins.

Sorry about the games. It was a tough decision. In the end I took them out because I'd already played them to death. The freeware site in the second post has lots of games, including solitaire. There used to be cabs floating around here for the games, but I'm guessing they were pulled for copywrite issues. If I'm in error, it would be great if someone could post links or update. If you want, I could cook up another version with the games, I think they're around 500k together. It may take a few days though. If anyone else wants them, please post your request.

Feedback
drgopoos - you're welcome!
joecruz - It's all dopod. I played around with using another Java, and some other stuff, but for me the original works fine, and is much smaller. I changed some registry settings, and the initflashes, and removed stuff, but no mix and match in this version. Thanks for asking. Edit: I did change the version of mxip_notify.vol so that I could remove ceipui (phone home).
alancstan - I'll work on that. Basically its a standard WM6 looking rom. It boots into the Windows Default theme, but I've included the standard Guava Bubbles and Mobile Green themes. The difference is in the speed, stability, and available storage. You can make it look however you like!
rob.ocelot - Yeah, the calculator was always one of the first things I replaced when I ran a new rom. There's lots of better options out there.
Noticed that Remote Desktop is taken out as well. This actually works out better for me since you can install it to memory card -- more savings.
Any reason you left the sample pictures and dogbark.wav? (these are some of the first things to go when I start a new ROM)
Edit: Also no HTC X-button, which I almost always turn off. It never did mesh well with the way I use my PPC (closing/minimizing things to get to the today screen just to open the task manager).
I'm very impressed with how snappy everything seems to be!

Thanks for the comments! I chose to leave in the pics because they were really small, and I felt like there was some comfort factor involved for those transitioning from a stock rom. (When opening Pictures and Videos, its nice to have something there so you know its working.) I also sometimes use the dogbark for my alarm. (and its also small)
Actually the version 1.0 of x-button is built-in. This version is small, and its only function is to close an app completely if the x (close) is held down for a few moments. There is no today screen option. (Look in system settings, near the bottom, I think its called taskmgr or something. I've overwritten mine with a later version.) I didn't update it because I know there are folks like you who prefer other task managers, and I didn't remove it because for those who like to close their apps and not hide them its a simple solution.
Best wishes,
Many thanks for the Lite Rom, will try and see if working fine with my x01ht with chinese input.
No problem about the games

Edhaas,
Thanks so much for your response, No problem about the games, I know you are probably busy. I just though I'd ask because my wife really loves the bubble breaker game.
Anyway, this lite version is awesome, so much memory it is unbelievable...thanks again for the memory space and the stability!!!

Added screen shots
Well, per request I've added some screenshots to the first and second posts. Please note the screen capture app was added after the flash, and that available memory is larger than shown.
Also, we're around a hundred downloads, and I'm guessing the relative quiet here means everything is working great, and the rom is just boringly reliable and efficient!
Best wishes,
Found this rom very good.
On the subject of a2dp skipping, would brief pausing be called skipping? I have parrot mk6000 hands free carkit. It's bluetooth version is 1.2. I realize that bluetooth version 2.0 is downward compatible, could this have something to do with pausing? or is it a processing bottleneck? or buffersize issue?
Thanks in advance

A2DP troubleshooting seems to be a bit of an art. I can tell you that my Plantronics P260 stereo headset streams beautifully and skip-free while running internet radio, or any of the usual music players with the current settings. If I add another app to the mix, the music will sometimes pause while the other app is busy, then resume. If you are running TomTom while streaming internet radio, you might get pauses. Or, the 1.2 bandwidth could be an issue also in that case.
I did a mini-search and found a posting by pocc that might be helpful for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1406333
Generally though, the current thinking is that usejointstereo should be "1", and all the "bitpool" settings should be deleted for the best sound. See here. Which is the way I set this rom at default. If you do want to tinker with these settings, I suggest using one of the custom tweak apps, or getting a registry editor. Let me know if you need further help.
Regards,
I will be doing one/two more lite roms based on supa dupa lite but will be opened to suggestions.
So far I have been asked to removed acrosoft mms and make it available as cab which will give us total storage rom app 80mb.
So please put forward your suggestions and I will try to make it as suitable for everyone and at the same time as lite for who wants it and if that is ok I could do a full rom
Here are mine suggestions:
Remove Pocket RAR, X-Button, Network Wizard, SMS backup, bring back WM6 default dialer .
I actually need MMS in there, ArcSoft MMS 4.2 seems better then 4.0 and 4.1 so you might considare getting it in
About HTCustom errors, I am quite sure it is caused by kaiser comm manager, try it and see for yourself
Thats it from me..
i hope you can remove everything and provide cabs for everything. and ths cabs should work. and i hate to search for cabs, you should post all "known to work with your rom" in your rom thread.
and thx for your hard work,
regards chief

I might do two lite roms one similar to supa dupa and one just bare back which hopefully I should get about 85 mb storage free and supplied cabs but Rom would be hopefully available by this weekend as I have been tied at work just coming from holiday.
thanks for your appreciation to my roms everyone.

For me the lite versions should be totaly free of software - those from microsoft and those in CABs like htc home.
They could be in extrom that the user could decide if to install them
More storage! More free ram!

that is exactly what i am looking for "a totaly clean rom"
now that we can find cabs for almost any oem or third party progs it would be great to have a rom in which you could decide what exactly you want to install and you can always uninstall easily.
hopefully you get time this weekend. this is a great idea.
I would take out all help files, remove all advanced BT features(like a2dp, SAP).
remove the STK(sim tool kit - it runs on boot every time!!)

and thats me just taking 5 mins to do a quick rom, i will review the threads for what the people want and do two roms a bare back rom with almost nothing but still functional with all the necessities that is toch dial, comm, start clean. other rom will be identical to supa dupa but remove some small bits
Hi,
The lite version should be held in the Kaiser Style.
- 3G Kaiser Dialer
- 3G Kaiser Comm Manager
- Windows Media Player with Kaiser Skin
Everything else can do away
- Pocket RAR
- SMS Backup
- x - Button
- Network Wizard
Who needs the individual components can it install as it wants.
A completely small system, on which everyone needs installed which it.
MfG
S64
I have a question. Is there any way to get rid of Windows Media Player ? I hate it, i don't use it it's useless..
I was wondering alswo is there any way to remove pictures and video? I'm using resco picture viewer so the alternate program takes more storage.
That's only suggestion
switch dialer to 2G please.. and keep BT stuff.. why the hell would u want to remove BT stuff? i still wanna use my ear peice!
I am after a totally clean clean rom with the basics only and all the rest as CABs.
Is there a list somewhere which tells one what all those cryptic files/folders are in the ROM, thinking of removing stuff myself..
Cheers!

I'm quoting the third post ... and there isnt anything else needed to be said ... Chiefcooker nailed it! Especially that last line, "Thanks for your hard work"!
Were I good enough to make a super lite rom, here are some guidelines I might employ:
TAKE OUT PROGRAMS THAT ARE:
1) upgraded regularly (X-button, WMP, Arcsoft, etc.)
or
2) that have superior replacements (file explorer, PIE, contacts, etc.)
AND
3) that don't affect the stability of the ROM
LEAVE ANYTHING THAT:
1) can't be found and reinstalled quickly from a .cab file (maybe A2DP... not too sure of examples here)
2) affects the stability of the ROM
REPLACE NECESSITIES w/ LATEST AND GREATEST:
For things that can't be left out: dialer, comm manager, and etc. Go with the latest and flashiest versions of these rather than saving a couple hundred K.
I figured it would be just a matter of time before someone made a minimal ROM with all apps/features as cabs. That would eliminate having to cook ROMs for different tastes. It would be more time efficient for ROM cookers to focus on carrier/driver/OS functionality.
Leave 'Clear Storage', 'Error Reporting' , 'ClearType Tuning' 'Internet Sharing' all the standard themes, pictures and smilies out. No templates for Word etc.
Basically I agree with everyone else, leave only the needed programs and delete anything that can be found in CAB form for others to instal. 'Video Dialing' could be left in. I like the Kaiser style comm manager
AFAIK..
1.) When you try to take out the Windows Media Player, it starts creating problems, so it can`t be taken out of the ROM..
2.) ArcSoft MMS doesn`t work when you install it as a cab, it needs to be integrated into the ROM for some reason..
This is my first superstorage rom (based on the 3.62 rom) created by Pandora's kitchen with the help of some other kitchen tools. In addition, this is also using bepe's superstorage hack.
All the bloatware has been removed. Everything else you need, is mostly available in the form of cabs. It has the Schap's 2G dialer and 10-button Touch Commmanager since I think nobody likes the stock ones anyway.
Anyone interested in testing it, feel free to do so. If possible, let me know if you find anything wrong with it, I'm still in the learning phase.
Thanks.
v1 Sendspace Link
v1 Rapidshare Link
EDIT: I had better luck the second time, and uploading v2 as I type this.
uploaded new screenshots of the v2, as I said, very simple!!!
v2 Sendspace Link
Office, pbar, Java, Arcsoft MMS, X button, etc. have been removed from V1.
I'll take a seat and waiting for your screen shot.
Interested in trying this ROM but would like to know what is in and what is out. Thanks for your efforts.

Oh its definitely cool to have made my first successful rom.
Since this rom is from AT&T, all the AT&T stuff is out of there.
This is a 6MB page pool. This is only the OS, no splashscreens, no radio.
I added the following:
updated white-color battery icons,
Comm-vibrate toggle
Schap's 2G dialer
10 button CommManager
Black keyboard
Superstorage hack (thanks to bepe)
Schap's Advanced Configuration
pBar
Office 2007
Startclean
I skipped the following:
Intent midlet manager
No touch button
Network Wizard
No Autoupdate
no catalog
no windows live
Thats what I remember on the top of my head. Hope this is good info.
Did you apply Bepe's hack to the 3.62 OS (i.e. hexedit the 3.62 os.nb and edit the XIP)? Or did you cook this rom using the 3.60 big-storage OS and then combine it with the 3.62 OEM and SYS files?
Ross
only 20 some megs available for programs? ekkks. I'm thinking we all will need a bit more than that.
it is cool you offer this rom, but maybe its just me, I personally need to see more program memory.
@ Ross - I hex edited the 3.62 rom directly, no using of 3.60 OS.
@ Ko0ky - thanks for that review, I need to look into that. I would definitely some more program memory too.
I just noticed that binky has more storage memory than me, so I must have done something wrong...so back to the drawing board for me!
Yah, the big storage hack didnt work. Too bad, i was really excited for a second

it worked half way, since i have a total memory of 61.38 MB, and there is ext_rom. No worries, I'll get cracking on it again today after work.
Aiighty, on a second try, looks like I've had better luck.
Office, pbar, Java, Arcsoft MMS, X button, etc. have been removed from V1 since they're all available in cabs.
Tempted to give it try. I am using duttythroy's Touch I Ultra Lite which has 73.44MB Storage and 50.77MB Program Memory. However, it is based on the 3.60 ROM. I would like to use 3.62.
Good job on milking out some more storage space! How did you do it? Could you give us some details so that those of us who like to cook our own can do so? Thanks!
Ross
PS It is strange that there is still about 5 megs less 3.60 based big storage roms. What is up with that?
well, I realised that my mistake was in the hex-editing. I only did half the hack right, hence got only half the result (atleast thats what I think).
I have tried to make this quite a few times, and thats the max I've gotten. I might have to squeeze out some more apps/dlls, but I cannot seem to get it to 3.60 superstorage numbers. I'm still trying though.
Hi everybody!
Sorry for the delay, now I'm back on XDA-Devs forum and I hope to release soon new ROMs. I don't know yet if I missed a lot of new stuffs for our favorite device, so I ask you what you wish for the future Schap's ROMs...
Which build do you prefer? What is the most stable build from the newest ROMs? What are the newest HTC stuffs and OEM soft that I could include? Superstorage? What about other tweaks?
Schaps,
Welcome back. I hope your personal issues are now sorted.
From my perspective I prefer a lite but very stable ROM, as light as possible. Every item I then need should be availabe as a cab. That way I get my own "personal" ROM, without things I don't want (eg HTC Home). It also makes it extremely easy to update apps by simply deinstalling the old item and re-installing the latest version.
Shamanix has developed something along these lines using your 354c ROM, if I remember correctly. This has been well received by the forum. I personally have not used it asI have been waiting for your return plus you have now built a reputation for delivering rock solid ROMS, which is my no 1 priority.
I think taking the super/mega lite approach not only gives the user what they want but should cut down on your workload, and a lot of requests for different things within the ROM, all of which should be easily available as a cab.
So in summary I am looking for superlite but extremely stable ROM with your advanced config tool and all the things you would include in a ROM available as cabs, all of which should be fully tested for stability.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
WB
PS: One more thing; you need to offer an alternative way of making donations other than by Paypal. Many of us don't trust Paypal or have had problems with it.
thanks for coming back
Lite, with big storage and max memory atleast 30mb. thats it. very basic things u can cook in. pls use the latest build.
Thanks
Welcome Back!
Just one request - fix the bluetooth issue.
Hi Schaps and WELCOME back !
I hope all is well with you! We certainly missed you here
What do I need personally?
LITE LITE LITE and MEGA MEGA MEGA
Totally agree with wacky.banana statements. SOLID rom, as LITE as possible, Melted EXT_ROM (unless you think this makes the rom unstable) and all the cabs in the world to load whatever I want at any moment.
Memory leaks is a major problem for me, which steadily lead to a necessary SR. If this can be avoided or minimized to a minimum, this is a major plus IMHO.
Thanks again for all the beatiful roms you have created in the past, and looking VERY much forward to your new one
my coments suggessions are same as above

Welcome Back Schap's
Your ROMS are great which differs from many others, the best ROM from you was the 3.6 but it needed some tweeks especially the BT issue, we need to make it a superstore one, good luck we will always back you.
DO your best as allways
Make the best ROM, without any bugs, make it with as much more storage as you can and it's possible.
You cook much programms, but some of them not needed.
If it's possible make accept from any you will make one Lite version, that should have the best more free storage.
I dont know in which build you will end BUT I think you should make a 3.54d Lite because there are some customisations for non English environment which they are made on 3.54 HTC official rom and they don't work on other build, not to mention that 3.54 seems to be the most stable from others. Thanks . Glad you are back and I hope NOT to have other problems EVER.
a new lite edition
hello schaps.. I do like your work! I´d like u to make a lite edition without WMP... cos I think a few people uses WMP, for ex.. I always use Coreplayer that uses less RAM...
Thanx bro!
Just make sure you include the keyboard while on phone fix
that is the only reason I had to flash away from your rom.
Welcome back!
My suggestions:
-Ext-ROM melted into Mainstorage with Lite-Version (70+MB available free mem. after HR)
-Advanced Config with no Ext-ROM Options (if melted and not available)
-HTC Streaming Media left inside (for stability with 3G Dialers, no working Streaming Media cab for Hermes at the moment)
-3G-Dialer with Smartdialer
-Internet Connection sharing with new "W-LAN Router" hack (patched dll and settings, maybe over Advanced Config switchable?)
-IR-Beam disabled by default
-No Standard File Explorer if possible (this is the worst app ever)
I have found the AT&T 3.62 build works great, and 1.54.07.00 radio seems to only work properly with this build (the missing signal problem, i mean).
The other things that need to go: stock file explorer, WMP, and the default calculator.
In my experience, mega storage ROMs hemmorage memory, so if you could make it more stable that would me killer.
Hi Schap:
I suggestion a new Schap's WM6-Pro ROM with ExtROM 3.62 with CE 5.2.1622Build 18128.0.4.4 (last one for AT&T) and check the last version for each OEM application and additional.

What about total commander as a real replacement for file explorer ?
AT&T 3.62 is stable
Runs around office shouting for joy
Sweet!!! I am so glad you are back!! (Just not the same without you). Whew suggestions well lets see
I disagree with most of the posters here about super lite, there are enough super lite roms on these forums and I generally get better performance with ROMs with cooked in apps (45+ MB of storage would be great if most critical apps are cooked in)
1. Add Internet Sharing over Wifi (per fluxist) in advanced config or as a standard setting, this is HUGE!
2. If there was anyway you could cook in any of the newer stuff off the touch dual (contact mgr, full screen keyboard, pic view, etc) that would be incredible
3. Storage is great but super storage... not so much, I think I get better performance with cooked in apps
4. This is a matter of personal taste (and I usually mod it with cabs) but the kaiser comm manager/dialer/audio manager is easier for me to user one handed than the comm/dialer/audio manager included in the base 103.60
5. Get rid of WMP and standard file explorer (replace with something better)
6. ATT 3.62 as base
7. Oxios
9. If the new HTC keyboard/contacts is not available could you talk to the pocketcm folks about cooking in their apps?
10. Audio Equalizer (HP put one out it is on these forums somewhere)
11. Touchflo!! (I can't believe the alpha is working after all this time) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334965
Thats it WELCOME BACK
