ROM Restore with Spb Backup 2.0?? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hi All,
I've seen some pretty interesting ROM Development stuff here... WOW, impressive.
Yesterday I finally got me a Diamond and would like to tweak it here and there. But before all af this I want to take a backup with Spb Backup 2.0 that I purchased some time ago to safekeep the data on my Cruise.
Here's my question: when I flash the new Diamond after I backed it up, will I be able to reinstall the original ROM with the (Spb 2.0) backup that I took?
Just in case, you never know if something goes wrong and I have to bring the phone back for repair (as I actually had to do with all my HTC's so far)
Thanks for your replies!
Cheers guys

mms restore method for post rom update?

Good morning! So, before updating to the newest dopod rom on my qtek 9000, I figured I'd be wise and cover my bases by backing my email/sms/mms up via sprite AND spb just to make sure of a good back up method, and even tested restoring them without incident. Well... that's where the goodness left off. I was silly and hand taken the time to read up on the restore process, and after the rom update, when I ran a restore, even of just the emails, it manages to hose the entire system. So, looks like I'm gonna be tryin to flash back down to the old rom and restore the stuff... and figure some way to export it all, then import it into the new configuration. Anybody got any ideas?

You may have missed the official tutorial on Device Upgrade mode - you MUST remove all POP3 accounts before backing up.

spb backup vs Sprite backup

spb backup vs Sprite backup - which is most reliable in restoring backups?
can either cope with Rom upgrades better than the other?
I just use the backup function of SK tool 3.14. It's reliable.
I give that a spin - Sprite has been less than perfect for me
Sprite has a function called Upgrade Mode Restore. It helps to restore a backup file made before the ROM upgrade to the upgraded device as long as the device stays in the same OS.
Spb does not support upgrade mode restore.
Thanks - I've had a few problems with Sprite on my Hermes - it was always 100% on my Magician
May be worth another look
SKtools looks quite good - but bit slow compression seems very good
I've been pleased with Sprite on both WM5 and 6. The only file it won't replace is compimeh.dll in WM6 and that is a non-factor in a restore. It does have the device upgrade mode as well as a very easy to use interface.

This also happends with SPB Backup, but you can exlude the file from the backup procedure. It seems that the file has something to do with custom dictionary words.

How about Sunnysoft Backup Manager? There should be someone who makes a review about the latest versions of all backup programs. Since you were wandering what's best why don't you create a test review about backing up your device?
SPB Backup works better than the Sprite on my tytn,
cheers

See my Backup Bible; it's also cross-posted to the General forum here. In there, I've reviewed all the current backup apps.
Thanks - I give Sprite another try but in the past SPB has been better on my Hermes
it's already 2009 and lots of features were added... what's the best among the two?
I am thinking of SPB or Sprite Backup
Right now i use the Sprite Backup demo, they have a special
offer for HTC Users :
Sprite Backup and Sprite Terminator for $19,95
But i am not sure how save and good they are ... Is anybody
here who can compare both packages ?
So what do you guys recommend.
ive heard that sprite works even after upgrading the ROM, what about spb does that also have this feature??
Pro's and Cons anyone??
Don't bother with ROM upgrade mode. This feature is not guaranteed to work 100%, unless you always stick with official ROM upgrade all the time. And, you don't get too many official ROM upgrade out of the lifetime of the device.

Backing Up

Is there anyway to back up an entire "image" of the phone as it exists at a current moment in time?
I'd like to try Black 3.0 but it took me so long to get my phone wokring the way I wanted after installing 2.5 (nothing to do with 2.5, just it was my first ROM flash) that I'd like somehint gi can go back to should I get sick of putting everything back the way I like it.
Also on another topic... can I just get the theme from back 3.0?
use spb backup (or similar) to backup everything. to a micro sd card
if you decide to go back to 2.5 then flash 2.5 again and run the backup you created
Thanks man I'll check it out, I'm thinking I may just quit while I'm ahead and stick with 2.5, it's running so nicely. Does it back up settings and stuff like that too?
it will put your phone back EXEACTLY as it was when you backed up, so yes
Don't know if this is the appropriate thread to ask but I didn't want to start a new one Does anyone know how SPB Backup compares to Sprite Backup? Any pros or cons? I'm running SPB now and it works pretty well for the most part with the exception of running it on Black 3x (takes a while).
I would prefer spbclone. This app makr the exact and total image of your PDA.
Sprite
I used SPB Backup for a while and decided to try Sprite Backup as at the time (not sure now) it had more options for backup/restore. It backs up fairly fast (5 mins) and hasn't let me down yet with all of these flashes.

If I flash a new 6.5 ROM, can I still use spb to restore progs, etc

About to flash my first new ROM on my USA T-Mobile TP2.
I've chosen the EnergyROM_23504_RHODIUM_08.Nov.2009_Standard as it appears to be getting good reviews.
My main concern though, having already installed so many extra programs, is can I still do a restore (using SPB Backup) from a backup I made on the stock T-Mobile 6.1 ROM? I would assume not, but man would it be nice if I could!
Please advise. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Jeff
You should not loose any data by trying. If it does not work then flash back to a 6.1 ROM. Another thing to try is by using the new free Microsoft program "my mobile" (I think that is what it is called, not by my device) before flashing back to a 6.5 ROM. The Microsoft backup does work when going to upgrade versions of the OS.
P.S. I am assuming that you are going from 6.1 to 6.5. If it is the same OS version then before, you should have no problems
SPB 2 has a "ROM Upgrade" mode. It should work. Sometimes a program or two may be finicky though.
Thanks to you both. I'll give it a go and report back on how it went.
Jeff
Just to close this out - I decided not to try, since I figured the only apps I really even needed to reinstall were Resoe Explorer (like the finger-friendliness of it), TV Guide, and CorePlayer.
Figured it'd keep it nice and clean to just reinstall them, which only took a couple minutes anyways.
Thanks for the help though!

How to perform complete system backup/image?

Hello community,
first of all thanks for your great work here in this forum. I am using cooked roms in all my HTC (Universe, Kaiser, Trinity, Elf) but currently i am getting stucked with the question:
Is there a way i can backup a phone completely, meaning a complete dump of the ROM, contacts, messages, installed software etc etc...... So that I can try some other ROMs and in case i don't like them that i just can flash back the image and are 100% done.
I only found up till now that i need to dump my rom and in addition my software/contacts with e.g. SPB Backup.
Thanks in advance for every response.....
yeah, i was going to ask the same question...
Is that possible? Does anyone know it???
On one of the Poland boards about smartphones in Trinity section I've seen topic like this - one of the users made a full backup in SPB Backup in original 6.1 and restored it in one of the cooked roms, I think made by "great tomme45i" - he had errors, and he couldn't run his P3600. I think it's impossible to create backup with instaled appz, maybe it's impossible, but the roms have e.g. different languages - you install first WWE, then ITA rom. You can use PIM Backup and backup only PIM data - contacts, messages, tasks, calendar events.
Hi, for this purpose I am using Sprite Backup. It can backup everything so that when you test some ROMs and want to get back to original one you can then restore everything like it was before. It is not possible to make a full backup and then restore it on different ROM.
