o2 gprs settings help - P3300, MDA Compact III General

hi all i need help setting up my gprs. i had a look on this post but i am still unable to get it working please help

ive got to the point where the gprs connects as it shows a little [G] above the phones signal strength along with a big [G] to the left but i cant view any internet pages plus my tacking software wont connect to the gprs. Any ideas? does anyone know if the authentication is PAP or CHAP?

If you're on Pay as you Go then make sure you've got the proxy settings set up correctly or you won't see a thing.
Settings>Connections>Connections>Edit My Proxy Server
Tick the boxes > Advanced
HTTP: 193.113.200.195:8080
WAP: 193.113.200.195:9201
Socks: 193.113.200.195:1080
It's a wap proxy so you won't get full mobile internet access. You'll be able to view most websites but it's by not the same deal you get on a contract (Quickgps and most other apps won't update properly). This is a workaround for PAYG as O2 would rather have you believe it doesn't work at all with the £7.50 a month bolt-on!

I got the pda to see webpages now i dont know why people were saying the password was password when its actually payandgo. I think as its not full access to gprs i dont think my messaging program is going to work.

I've tried these settings, but although I get the small G and it says connected, when I try to open a page, it comes up with an error saying the connection was lost. Do I need to sign up for the bolt on before it will work, or is there something else I need to check?

Connecting via wifi

When i enable the wifi it all comes up lovely. When i go to internet explorer and open it and then go to view a web page it enables gprs. How do i stop it doing this and get it to use the wifi that I have already enabled?

Try these:
Upgrade to the 1.12 radio. Works great. OR
Turn off the GPRS radio by going turning on Flight Mode OR
Click cancel when GPRS tries to connect.
The new radio helps a lot and give you a menu of choices to connect. Look at WIKI for instructions on how to upgrade the radio. It's pretty simple if you read carefully on how to upgrade. Be sure you use the right upgrade for your version of the HTC phone.
WiFi Automatic Connect to GPRS
Hi Zippy777,
This is how I have set mine:
When the PPC picks up the new access point and asks me if it connects me to The Internet or Work - I select Work
Then I go to Start -> Settings -> Connections and click the 'Connections' icon.
Click the Advanced tab then Select Networks.
I change both drop down boxes to 'My Work Network' then click the 'Edit' button under the top drop down.
Under the Modem tab - enter the GPRS settings for your provider.
I'm with Orange so my settings are:
Name: Orange GPRS Internet
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Access Point Name: orangeinternet
Username: (Blank)
Password: (Blank)
Domain: (Blank)
This setup should use your WiFi network card when it's inserted, and connect to GPRS when the card is out.
Don't know if this is the ideal solution for you, but works for me.
Best o luck!
(btw - I use a Sandisk WiFi card with Socket Drivers & a Linksys WRT54G Broadband Modem)
All I want to do is connect via my WIFI in my XDA 2i, wirelessly to my router in my house, so I can use its internet connection? Any ideas?
Thx for your replies though its much appreciated.
connect viw wifi
we know that Zippy. You have to configure the device to connect. Have you done that? It's not configured out of the box. Do a Google search for you device, and wifi or internet or ethernet connection settings. you should get hits at this sit as well if you do that kind of search.
Hi,
I too had many frustrations connecting the wi-fi on XDA2i...but now I've cracked it, here's how .......
On first very first use, or following a hard re-set, [on/off + scriber reset] users are prompted during the process to choose “What do you want WLAN to connect to?” The option bullets are ‘Internet’ or ‘Work’….’Work’ should be selected, this will (once boot-up is complete) connect them to the nearest WLAN. If your network is WEP encrypted it should be switched to ‘Open’ mode rather than ‘shared’ as is often the case.
Next prompt asks for any WEP Encryption ‘Pass Key’ to be input, when doing so omit any ‘-‘ between character pairs, just enter a complete string of numbers and letters. Normal start-up should then be completed. Once device is up and running…..
From ‘Start’ pull-down on the ‘Today Screen’ select…. ‘settings’>’connections tab’>’connections icon’>’advanced tab’>’Select Networks’> pull-down ‘My Work Network’ > ‘OK’ out of selections to save and exit, this prevents the device from attempting to connect via GPRS.
Go to ‘Wireless Manager’ in programs, select WLAN icon from main screen (which should turn green to show active), then select mini ‘WLAN’ icon from lower toolbar to see the status of the connection, quality of signal etc.
That did it for me......
Cheers,

Yes I have done this and my signal strength is good.
when i go to ie and try to access a web page it says cannot connect, and you have no modem entries created and no network card present? Help.
:? I didn't come across this prompt...could be you need to put an O2 SIM card in the device? (or whatever card it may be locked to).
Just another thought...
Go into settings>connections>connections icon>advanced tab>select networks>Edit (My work network)>if there is an o2 'bulleted' ...click it and 'delete'
Then try IE again......
I have deleted the o2 symbol where you said and it made no difference. My xda is unlocked and I am using a vodafone simcard.
Still cant get it going though. Same message as above but have great signal strength. well odd!

Go to www.cam.com and get vxUtil this program will help to determine what is wrong with your system.
If you go to | Start (menu) | settings | Connections (tab) | Network Cards (icon) | Network Adapters (tab) | and tap on | tiacwln Compatible Wireless Etherne... | What is listed for the IP address?
Do you have this set to "Use sever-assigned IP address" It should be.
Yes its all as it should be. Like i said I have a connection and great signal strength etc etc.
But when i try to access a web page in ie its just says
unable to connect, no modem entries created and no network card present.
what can i do?

Solution for Messenger Live connection issues?

I have been trying to login Messenger Live with Wifi...but it always use gprs instead when my connection is active...
and even my gprs is on...its times out..saying that i need to find a place for better connection and so on..
but why it doesnt connect directly using wifi??
Is there a way to fix the issue? it never happen with wm5's msn
Thanks again
Mike
when the gprs bubble pops up... press cancel.
then it uses wifi. problem fixed. why it tries gprs by default i would assume is due to mobile.
once i cancel works perfect over wifi until i move out of range.
I'm using Black 2.0 and changed the connection settings to 'Work network' (settings-connections-connection-advanced-select networks-my work networks) now I dont get the annoying gprs connection trying to start, just uses the wifi I have set up. Let me know how that goes.
dear all...thanks for the great help
falum...i did ur setup and i dont have the gprs pop up again...many thanks
but the other issues comes in...it often say that i cannot connect..(even when i was on gprs)...do you have the same problem beforee??
Im using the live version that is cracked (no time limited) that i download from here..im really confuse to which version i should get (since some said it expired)...
if its possible...can you direct me to the thread to the correct one??
Thanks again!

How to get Windows Live to connect over Wifi?

I am using vp3gs 3.61 rom with windows live messenger version 10.6.0031.2600. no matter what I do it won't connect on my WPA-PSK enabled router. I can connect fine to the internet.
Any special setup I need to do to get it to work?
Thanks for any help.
EDIT
Could someone on ATT disable the phone and use WIFI only and see if you can connect to LIVE?
I am using 10.6.0031.1600(older than yours) but I am able to connect to live services using the wifi with WPA-PSK.
I am using my own cooked rom.
Search in all the forums I remember some people had the simillar issues and had some 'workarounds'
Sorry I do not really remember.
I too also had a problem with .2600, reverted to .1600 and all is good over wifi. By the way, I'm using WPA TKIP on my wifi.
Tried that one too and still get the "there was a problem signing you in to messenger" error after checking internet connectivity.
try these ideas.
1 ensure your wifi settings are to internet and not work
2 ensure you dnt have the ip address set up in exceptions (these ips are only for intranet)
3 turn off your phone entirely. soft reset your phone. check that wifi is still internet and not work.
4 turn on wifi only. check that u have normal internet access. emails and hotmail etc work ok. then open messenger and sign in.
5 if you have to, use wlm switch user command and relogin.
this should work. once u have run and got it working, you can turn your phone back on and it should continue to use wifi and not 3g
s.

Still times out on checking internet connection.
I get email and internet fine. but no WLM.
I am using ATT. What should there be under Connections?
I have tried 2 My ISP and Media.net on My ISP it times out automatically, on Media.net it takes a while to time out.
Also did a hard reset to make sure that it wasnt anything I had installed. With the stock rom I still get the time out.
the proxy server u r using will b blocking that port.
I use telstra in australia, internet and push email works with proxy on, but wlm doesnt.
so i just turn off proxy and everything works except some of the telstra stuff which i dont want anyway.
proxy tends to give a garden firewall of their preferred content.
dunno how to deal with att, but suggest one of your connections should allow you to bypass the proxy styled firewall garden of att.
soz i dont have it to help u further, except to point u towards the proxy manager.
just to reiterate and emphasis the telstra proxy manager controls over rides and screws up 3g/next G connections AND my wifi.
only by turning this proxy manager off can i use wifi and 3g fully.
Thanks, there is a cab that disables the proxy on the att phone, so I disabled it, but that didnt help either.
Wlm 10.6.0031.2600
Hi, does anyone have the cab or installer for the latest WLM 10.6.0031.2600? Can someone post it or make it available for download? Thanks a million
Is anyone who has ATT able to use Windows Live Messenger?
Okay since WLM obviously doesnt work over wifi. How do you guys setup your outlook to get Hotmail?

Absolutely. I use it all the time. Mostly through 3G but sometimes through my home wireless network. Never had a problem.
Memnoch30, what version of WLM you using and do you have it set any special way in connections to use WIFI?
Well it seems I am not the only one having this problem, I got an interesting PM stating another person has the same problem as I do. If someone else could do me a favor, turn off the phone in comm manager, but keep wifi on. Can you still connect to Live???
Anyone? Thanks in advance
Hi
Just try to keep the Red button pressed ~3s (it will cancel the GPRS connection) then Messenger will use the wifi one (i do like that since i use pocket msn).

Doesn't work for me, all that does is close out Live messenger.
anything else I need to try?
It doesnt work even if I turn off GPRS and leave wifi only.

THE Thread for Connection Issues on WM 6.1

I've noticed a lot of people having problems being with T-Mobile and having the new 6.1 ROM being used on their Dash. Now even though I don't know the answer or connection settings to get this to work, I though I'd take the liberty of starting a SINGLE thread about this known issue, so our friends don't have to go digging through the threads to find what they need.
I've tried to update the GPRS and Proxy connections to what they were before I updated, but there is no "E" in the top right corner. When I try to use Windows Live or any other data service, then the "E" pops up in the upper right and soon after, 2 arrows signifying a data transfer shows up, but nothing ever happens and it times out.
Has ANYONE gotten their Data Connection with T-Mobile to work with this yet? I'm going to call T-Mo to get the settings, but I though I'd check here first. I'm not payin' $19.95/month for nothin'.
First, go to Settings > Connections > Proxy and delete everything. Then go to Settings > Connections > GRPS and delete everything, then add an item:
Description: Tmobile Data
Connects To: The Internet
Anything that says DNS: 0.0.0.0
Access Point: wap.voicestream.com
Leave everything else blank.
Then configure another item called Tmobile SMS, with the only difference begin that it connects to "Wap Network"
Did this work? If it does not work the first time, restart and try again. It works for me
Got it working. Thanks for the help! I had alternated between those 2 settings to try and get everything working. Never thought of just adding both of them. Duh!

Your welcome. To be honest, I did not know that you had to have them both configured - I have just always done it that way because thats what the TMobile site told me to do. Now I know they both have to be configured You have just saved me a future headache

I Get "HTTP ERROR: $CODES$" accesing T-Mobile Internet

My Internet connection was working fine... then I installed Meschle's WM6.1 Touch, which I like very much...
... but I lost the ability to reach the Internet. All my settings are correct for a WAP connection to T-Mobile, I tried it with and without a proxy, I tried changing ports on the proxy... but I keep getting the HTTP ERROR message regardless of what changes I make. It happens on any and all sites.
I know the GPRS connection is made, because after that the browser shows the "locating..connecting..opening" sequence... and then the error.
Help !
same here
this has been happening on my brothers phone for some time. I have tried 3 different roms and 2 tmobile settings as well as the network wizzard. Any fix out there? One rom actually after the setup wizzard let him connect for a few hours now this is back.
first call the T-mobile and ask them if the service is activated for you.
and try to delete all settings and then see this post it may help you
