Complete + Utter N00B Here! Searched But Couldnt Find Guide! - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

right
ive got myself a htc diamond and want to flash a new rom to it
mainly to increase the speed of it as its quite slow
never ever flashed a htc phone before so have searched for tutorials/guides and cant find anything clear, and that guys websites not working (mod my diamond)
ive searched this forum too and cant find anything crystal clear to follow
ive checked the wiki but it hasnt been updated with rom flashing guides, ive checked the kaiser rom flashing guide as its kinda the same but dont want to risk anything
aaanyway
what do i need to do to flash my htc with elite 3.0 (i wanna use this as alot of people seem to be recommending it)
ive tried installing hardspl onto my device but it stuck at 0% and failed and now i cant seem to get my phone to sync with my pc lol
il restart tomorrow and try again as its 4.30am here in the uk
so ive read up and what i basically need to do is:
install hardspl
then install elite 3.0
is that it?

modmydiamond.info

thanks
finally installed elite 3.0 but it crashes alot
do i need to flash the hardspl again or can i just flash it with any rom from now on?
yus786

after you "installed" hardspl you can just flash everything...you don't need to reinstall hardspl the whole time

Try Panoshas ROM

thats great
now il just experiment with all the roms and see if the phone can persuade me to keep it lol
thinking of going back to the n95 8gb as everything seems abit long winded on the diamond
thx
yus

Try dutty's rom

Radio Rom update problem - help pls

I just don't get it and I know I'm gonna get my arse reamed for this post!
I'm trying to flash my phone to the elite 2.0 and 05 radio rom
First I downloaded this and ran it "Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex.zip", all ok no problem
Then I downloaded Elite 2.0 ran that all ok, but when I try to run the custom ruu to update the radio to 05 it just sits there at 0%
Now I have searched the forums for similar issues but they seem to suggest that people are using the wrong Hard SPL....but I don't think I am, am I?
Can anyone point me in the right direction
thanks

I believe you are using the signed hard-spl by olinex.
Try this radio :
http://htcroms.aplace4u.biz/signed/radio/Diamond_Radio_1.00.25.05.rar
I'm quite sure that will fix your problem
Correct I have just released how F^&king stupid am I and used the unsigned HardSPL everything ok now, thanks for the reply anyway

Confused, what do I do first?

Hi guys, I'm trying to Root/Custom ROM my Hero but I'm getting confused with what I do and don't need to do and what order.
I have a GSM (UK) Generic Hero currently running the latest HTC update (2.73.405.5).
I know I have to flash a custom recovery image: Here
then I need to flash my Custom ROM from there.
But, the question I'm not sure, do I need to do the GoldCard thing in this forum or similar or just go straight to patched recovery tutorial?
Thanks.

Yeh I have been looking at that, I was just confused as to whether it needed GoldCard first or not.

Thanks so much, just did it, only took a second.
EDIT: Flashed MoDaCo 3.1 with no flash, it kept everything as it was before, I noticed one thing though, a whole load of apps always seem to be running when I open Avanced Task Manager, like ShopSavvy is there twice (I havn't even ran the app since i restarted the phone from the system crash just a minute ago) is this normal? should all these apps really be running all the time?
Considering reflashing with wipe.

nub to roms

I have messed and done ok with other phones when it came to unlocking and stuff but i am kind of lost with the htc touch pro 2 custom rom guide. Is there anyone that can give me a quick step by step and what the latest essentials files to install. Thank you very much.

Depending on the rom the Suggested radio will be cooked into the rom. Radio's are a best for you case. Read the Radio thread found HERE.
ok ok 1 more question and ill leave you alone hehe
If i want to change roms, i just repeat the process correct?
Or can i just pick a rom since i did the hardspl and just install a new one?

Once you Hard SPL you are free to flash any rom you like without having to do the SPL again. Just make sure you get the right SPL for your version. GSM or CDMA
hey i wanted to ask you about those other google roms
How do they run on the htc touch pro 2?, i had a mytouch and if they ran as smooth as that, i would try it.

I have found that flashing a stock rom then flashing a cooked rom seems to make my device a bit more stable. If I don't flash a stock rom before my next cooked one, I have been hit and miss with bugs...
Or I may just be superstitious, and this is all just part of my OCD

[Q] Impatient T-Mobile Desire User

I've never hacked my phone before but I really do want the Froyo update.
Looking at the guide in the other forum it looks pretty complex but I'm willing to put some time into getting it done.
couple of questions though.. Once i've done it if something goes wrong Can I roll it back to what it is right now? a 2.1 T-Mobile Branded Desire (Bravo)
And also does this affect my service with T-Mobile as the carrier and will they know i've hacked my phone etc?
Yes. Noobish dumb questions but sadly ones i need to get straight in my head first.
You can unroot and go back to stock whenever you like
and when you update to a cooked Froyo ROM make sure you update the radio first
Hi there i know this is my first post but i have been trawling these forums looking about rooting for quite a while now.
Anyway don't worry i used the unrevoked 1 click method and although it was sacry it was really simple and worked a treat. The ability to flash custom roms is really cool, im curretly running leedroids 1.6a rom.
All i can say is read lots of how to's and then when you fell comfortable go for it!!!
BTW im on t mobile also and the new radio has actually improved my signal, i can now get full bars on HSDPA at home whereas i used to get G or 1-2 bars of H!!
I'm on T-Mobile too, and have recently rooted and flashed my first custom ROMs. All I can say is just read up on the superb guides that cover pretty much all the bases. Use the Unr3voked tool for rooting, it really is very easy if you follow the instructions. Then when you want to flash custom ROMs, again just follow the instructions and it's very easy.
Ok great!
Thanks alot for your replies, they've been very useful.
I'm going to have a look at getting my Desire Rooted using Unrevoked atm.
Just a quick question.. what is a GoldCard and why do I need one (In reference to the rooting faq/walkthrough)
Can you follow the instructions detailed in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743408
thanks for the alternative solution to getting Froyo on my phone.. One question to this, does getting the OTA Froyo actually work on T-Mobile considering they haven't released it yet?
I'm alittle bit unsure on how it all actually works.
I'm currently trying the unrevoked method atm but if that doesn't work i'll research and try your method in conjunction with creating a goldcard

im on t-mobile too and although the test radio was crap the new official radio is gr8, get hsdpa all the time now
The OTA Froyo will arrive on Tmob when they release it,,, it would work but its going to be a wait
Cooked ROMs are the way to go IMO, and i hope you acheive root (then its flash happy time)

Dan, ok. right.. I've installed the Hboot Drivers as instructed so now the phone shows up as bootloader when in the Hboot menu and usb connected. but when i connect my phone powered on normally in charge only and usb debugging mode i still can't get unrevoked to accept that i have a phone connected..
i've checked my device manager and i notice that i have something called ADB that isn't drivers properly? is that something to do with this all?
you need to get the drivers, there is a link somewhere on here from memory
ah ha
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
you should be ablet o read through that and find everything, failing that follow whats there for the goldcard method
This is getting out of control now..
I have to download the Android SDK and because i'm in Windows 7 I have to download HTC Sync and then boot to Vista to get the correct drivers?
ok.. so basically before i can use unrevoked i need ADB, USB Bootloader and HTC Sync working?
Im on Win 7 and it works fine, since im not branded i didnt have to make a goldcard, its alot easier then it looks and with a goldcard apparently its the same only you have a funky SD card, just follow and enjoy
Dan.. Are you using Unrevoked? or the method using a different bootloader or whatever?
As per post i didnt need a goldcard (or unREVoked etc) but a mate of mine has used a goldcard and described the method as 'simple as it gets'
so im just going with what he said
Eureka! Unrevoked works now.
Now i'm in the rebooted system where it has options like apply sdcard.update.zip lol.
I suppose i should download a 2.2 froyo rom now.. which would you suggest?
Personally im between LeeDroid 1.7b and SETrom 4.5 both work lovely for me,,, but i do want the bootscreen from LeeDroid (and the R2D2 Sounds) on the SETrom lol
Well, if it helps, I posted my steps on what i did with a stock T-Mobile (UK) device I bought off a friend. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7422943#post7422943
Was easy and worked perfectly. I'm now happily enjoying AdamG's OpenDesire 3.0.2 ROM and loving it.
EDIT: Oh yeh, used "Gparted" to partition my 16gb sd card for using ap2sd properly and that too was pretty easy and without issue.

you said i should upgrade my radio first?
is that another rom? so i have to flash the radio (i've found the link to it in leedroid's thread) and then flash the leedroid rom?
Also.. I guess this might be obvious but A2SD won't work unless I properly partition the SD card yes? after formatting it.. will that mean losing my bootloader?

[Q] Rooting & Flashing - From Base 2.2 HTC ROM

hi all.
well im expecting to get abuse and called every kind of noob under the sun, BUT
im prepared to take it as normally someone will eventually give me the answer.
Currently i have a Desire - running Stock Froyo 2.2
i have rooted my desire using Revoked 3, so i have clockwork installed.
i have downloaded a few diffrent roms, but im getting confused with the instructions on exactly what to do to flash the actual rom on the phone.
Many people are saying about using diffrent tools/mods/processes, hench why i thought id come to the experts..
im intending on trying 4-5 diffrent ones to find the one i prefer, hench im looking for a general "do this, this, and this, reboot, bingo"
i have downloaded;
DeFroST_4.3
LeeDrOid_V2.1_A2SD
SuperFinal
(looking for OpenDesire, but cant find a dam download link which works)
i have used the nexus one (pure 2.2) and i really liked it hench looking for something fairly close to that.
can anyone help me please.
I think you need to read more pal, but essentialy the steps are:
1 reboot into recovery
2 wipe all your data (factory reset)
3 use the install from zip file option
4 enjoy your new ROM
however I would recommend you reading and studying the methods cause there's always a chance of bricking your phone
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
OpenDesire 4.0.33
http://android.adamg.co.uk/bravo/roms/opendesire_latest.php
It's the actual Rom install part I'm
unclear on.
Rom Manager
hi all, just to say i have been given the best advice going on another forum
ROM Manager, as it connects directly into Clockwork and enables everything that way, that should make flashing sooooooo much easier.
