I upgraded to Ricky's ROM on my dash and love it.
however I have a quandry. I want to go to MSNBC and get their multimedia app, so I can watch their stuff.
Their website www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17692217 lists the dash as supported, but our far superior rom reports as an HTC S-620. is there a way to change how the phone reports itself in order to convince the site it is supported, (when you click the link to get it, the site says your phone isn't supported .. yes i am clicking within the phones browser)
also is there a way to get opera mini to register itself as a desktop browser? when i go to aol.com it gives me the wap version.
doesn't work:
changing HKLM\windows\current version\internet settings\5.0\user agent\(default) string value started with HTC s620 to T-Mobile Dash (don't know if changing the next part to that is 5.2.968 to a different version number or if there should be a different spelling or punctuation)
changing hklm\ident\OrigName from HTC s620 to T-Mobile Dash
also is there a way to get opera mini to ID itself as a desktop computer and not a mobile phone at all times? when i go to AOL.com it shows me the WAP website
perhaps someone who still has a "dash" can go to the link and download the program and the put it where we can see if it will install on a dash that is no longer a dash? see if it signed to only install on a particular device.

I have an XDAII. Running PocketPC (2003) version 4.20.0
ROM version is 1.60.00WWE
I find when I am browsing many sites (such as my.yahoo) I am advised to upgrade my version of IE.
If I go to updates.microsoft it does not appear to recognise the fact that it is PocketPC looking for upgrades. In fact it says to upgrade IE first
How do I upgrade IE
Is there a working, stable version of PocketPC, I should be using?
Where would I get it?
Other posters here appear to be having issues with WM5.
BTW Unlock worked a treat.

I think generally websites don't expect the Pocket Internet Explorer.
There's a reg hack to change the identity of the browser as other websites see it, to make it look like the full Internet Explorer, which can help stop some compatibility warnings from websites.
Tweak2k is a very nice and easy way to do it.
I've never seen a standalone update to PIE.

I stumbled upon a new Mobile Browser for our HTC Dash, its called UCWEB Super Browser v6.0.1. While it is still a Beta, it is very stable (has not crached or froze up yet and I've been using it for a few days), it is very fast, has TONS of options and well (I hate to say it) is a bit better then Opera Mobile. It works flawlessly with Google (like Googles new "my location" feature on mobile search, GMail and others where Opera does not work or only half works. Security is very good and its fast as heck in rendering (it renders pages on the device not a remote server) pages and gives you the option of preformating to your devices screen size.
A quick feature summery:
Main Features:
• FREEWARE - Its free cant get better then that
• Adaptation for small screen
• Data traffic statistics
• Visited history
• Domain name quickly input
• Supporting multi-formatted file
• Supporting web local-storage
• Multi-windows browsing
• Page dynamic optimization
• Picture optimizing display
• Shortcut Keys (user defined)
• RSS Feed Subscriptions
• Built in E-mail Client for POP3 and IMAP, full support for attachments
• Comprehensive search features (user definable)
• Download Manager - Resume broken download connections
• Personal Data Manager - Saves web sites to your device, export bookmarks
All in all I give it a solid 9 out of 10 (and its still in Beta)
Check it out here: UCWEB Super Browser v6.0.1 beta
Download the Windows Mobile 5 and 6 CAB file here: UCWEB Super Browser for WM 5 & 6
Crashes Dash on first try will install to phone mem and give a try.
No such luck just shows a black bar @ top and crashes phone
I can't get it to load after installing the cab. Freed up memory and closed everything in task. Hmmm when I get time I'll try again. I checked out the website and phone model not supported. They have a generic option. What phone did you select Keith?
I download the HP -> iPAQ 512 and installed fine.
Could be that the cab Keith upload got corrupted.
*Thanks to NRG for suggesting compatible phone to Dash*

Which one did you go for as there is 2 with different file names?
http://wap.ucweb.com/dl_platform/publish/scripts/mobiledetail.php?project_code=100&mobileid=3000
Or could you just media share the file please.
Thanks in advance
Honestly...you're not hip to the Chinese language?? wow
I honestly flipped a coin and picked 2. lol
Here you go
Update: Although playing with it, not knowing if that is the right picking, it is a bit buggy.
I installed the generic, Java. I like that a whole lot better.
Maybe Keith can enlighten us on picking the right phone for our Excaliburs.
Yeah I installed the java generic earlier today and it worked fine but the Chinese is a killer. It makes you crave rice...
It's quicker than skyfire but not so sure it's faster than mini.
I'll try the HP cab.

Nice one, how did you know which Java one to get? Or was it lucky dip again?
Look @ this for a translation http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translat...pts/webcommon.php&lp=zt_en&btnTrUrl=Translate
rather funny
i didnt download the cab
i did it through wap site on phone
I saw "English" and clicked on it and it translate the steps.
Any idea if this works over t-zones??.....
Visit the wap site with your phone http://wap.ucweb.com . I downloaded mine directly from the wap site and it autodetected my Dash (I run 6.1 Kav by the way) and I had no problems. The above CAB is for WM 5 or 6, I guess it looks like it wont work on 6.1 or perhaps the CAB got messed up on upload.. I'll reupload it.
this is what you want right?
the Dopod 720w is the same as the Dash so this is the version you want am i correct?
also acording to translation the first download link is the most current version where as the second link is last stable.
I find that the fist link does not work however the second link works. (as far as running the programm goes)
i must also say its very beautiful nice find, its fast like opera mini but functional like skyfire of corse sacrific on both but meets in the middle somewhere.
The English version works fine on my HTC Touch Pro (Raphael). Up to yesterday, the file name for HTC Diamond (should be OK for Touch Pro I believe) is:
UCWEB6-61-300-31-08081214.cab
Chinese HTC is re-branded as Dopod or 多普达, Touch Diamand is calleds900.
I love the browser not just because I speak Chinese but for its unmatched features that not found with other browsers. But I don't put all my eggs in one basket, BTW.
It can use vodafone's 3G high speed Internet or Wifi (not USB with ActiveSync ).
The function that I would like to have in future versions is Flash!
Thx for the info on ucweb
thx bupahs ucweb is awesome i like it more than opera mini, more options plus when i edit my cpr file my font is the font for all applications in ucweb ,cool
It took me several tries to get the right version from their website. First I should have scrolled down to where I could switch the language to English. Instead, I downloaded the first one that appeared to be for a Windows Mobile SP. It turned out to be the latest Chinese version and even the chinese characters wouldn't show up on my phone.
Then I installed a Windows version, but I got warnings that it wasn't for my phone. It worked anyways, but I did want to get rid of the warning so I tried again. I recall someone mentioning that the HTC Dash and the Dopod C720W are the same. So I found that particular version and it is really fast! It's amazing as well that it's running natively and not as a Java App.
Uninstalling the other incorrect versions didn't go so smoothly though. The icons remained in Start/Programs. Therefore, I restored my phone from an earlier backup and then reinstalled the UCWeb browser.
Thanks again for this great find!
Thank you,
Tim
Screenshots are a must!!!!
UCWEB....
I downloaded, works great except for streaming videos.Says i need the latest version of flash player....when i try to update,it asks what OS i have.i`m not sure which to pick...I feel stupid but can i get alittle help?A link maybe? Thanks in advance.....
i have to say this is my new favorite web browser.
Definitely a great browser so far! It's quick, renders well, and is very flexible (options-wise).
the only thing i don't like is that i can't see facebook like in opera mini otherwise is awsome
i have the latest version 6.3
IE on my mogul used to display mobile.wunderground.com very nicely. On my TP2 it, along with lots of other sites are kinda wacked. Its like the browser window is 3 times the width of the screen, so even on sites that are formatted correctly to be viewed on a small screen, I get a horizontal scroll bar.
I've tried the "desktop/mobile" setting in IE no difference. And I dont like the way opera (both moble and mini) displays sites specific for mobile devices.
On my mogul the user agent is a little different it says IEMobile 7.11, whereas the tp2 user agent has IEMobile 8.12 AND IEMobile 6.0
Even a test page which is nothing more than a index.html file with the word test in it has a scrollbar on my TP2 that has 2 screens of whitespace. .
Is there a registry setting to set the IE user agent? And is there also a setting (registry or file) that reports the window width (like in opera:config)?
Thanks!
You probably have a different IE version installed on the TP2. Google for a newer version.
I'm having this problem too, I prefer PIE for certain sites, but the pages that rendered correctly on my Touch Pro are practically useless for all the scrolling around I'm having to do. Any fix for this?
Same thing here! I thought t was my mind playig tricks on me but the IE on the TP2 is horrible for mobile sites. I too am awaiting a reg hack or something.
There is a Pocket IE download that replaces the mobile IE on our TP2's. I havent tried it as I figured out how to make opera look nicer...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1890124&postcount=2
Then there is IE toggle, which I havent used either,,,
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=65154
So if anybody wants to experiment with either of these, I'd be interested to find out how mobile.wunderground.com looks under each of those options. I've just been using opera so I decided to leave IE stock.
What version of Esmertec should I use for WM 6.5? I'm trying to get Opera Mini going on my AT&T Tilt2..
This guy has done all the work for us... He uses 20090216.5.1 & sets the fonts to be a little bigger so they're not to small on VGA/WVGA screens.
I <3 Opera Mini more than any other mobile browser (except Safari but we can't use that)

Thanks. I've gone to the latest Jbed. Can you please post your registry edits for the larger fonts? TIA>.
mine are currently set as this, you can probably make them bigger though.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Esmertec Java\Device Info\Java Font
"Size Large"="30"
"Size Medium"="26"
"Size Small"="20"

Good info here. Opera mini is a great light browser.
Great info, everyone. Thank you. Two questions:
1. Any way to make it the default browser (there was a cab for this on my Tilt)?
2. Any way to register it to remove those annoying permission prompts?
Thanks again.

Yes & Yes.
I don't have a cab for 1) handy - search for mortscript and you will get there.
2) go to \windows\appdb and find selector.utf. (Backup &) Edit it. You will see an entry for domain
change:
domain=untrusted, \
to:
domain=tckmax , \
(note that I added spaces to make the length of the second entry identical to the first)
copy the file back and u are all set - no more Java Nag..
Thanks very much!
Actually when I tried making that change, I got an error:
The MIDlet could not be instantiated:
java.lang.NullPointerException
Any ideas? Thanks.

make sure you put enough spaces to match the length of the old entry.. The best way is to open the file in a program which allows you to see spaces/hidden chars, copy the domain line and replace untrusted with tckmax and start adding spaces till the length of the two lines match. then delete untrusted..
I did this tweak on my Fuze w/ WM 6.1. Worked fine.

But last night, after I installed both versions of Opera Mini (v4 and the new Beta) on my Tilt 2 , I searched for the appdb folder and the selector.utf file -- to perform the tweak on the Tilt -- couldn't find them anywhere.
Can any of you folks help me out here? Did something change with WM 6.5? What am I missing, and what do I have to do to run Mini.
Those annoying "untrusted" prompts are driving me crazy. Thanks.
Instead of the utf hack, uninstall Opera Mini, go back to the download page from Opera Mobile (do not dL from your PC). Choose the option to download a previous version (do not select the Download Opera Mini link), and select the Verisign version (it's still 4.2). Viola! No more confirmation screens. I got this tip from this board, so thanks to whomever it was that posted it.
I'm surprised anyone likes Safari better than Mini. iPhone, Pre, and Opera Mobile all have the same problem, which is you need to grow and shrink multiple times to read a web page. I find it cumbersome. Plus, I can switch between mobile & non-moblie views. Each has their uses.

That worked. Went to the previous version, selected the "multiple certificates" choice (of 4.2), and installed it. When I ran it, the first time Mini connected to the internet, I got a "... accesses the network" prompt, but with one of those little check-boxes that says "don't show this message again." Well, on my 6.5 Tilt 2, when I check it, it does show up again, but only once, the FIRST time Mini connects. After that, no more prompts until you exit Mini and start another session. Nice. Thanks!
That's odd -- I only got the message once and was never asked again, regardless of reboots, hard reboots, etc. It loads the first page directly, no questions asked. I used the Verisign version on 6.1.

Tried the Verisign ver., too. Same result for me (It's not like I'm complaining, mind you). Probably a combination of the phone, OS and who knows what else.
I'm just happy to be able to use Mini without the annoyance. Even with an excellent 3G connection, the version of Opera that shipped with my Tilt 2 performs horribly. I could grow old trying to bring up Google, or WAP pages. It's worse than IE. Never thought anything could be worse than IE.
Skyfire really rocks here, though, for some reason. Just a few steps behind Mini for busy sites like the Wall Street Journal. Go figure.
Anyway, thanks again.
Howdy folks,
My company develops a web-based system that is accessed in the field through a mobile optimized web interface. We're currently having problems with the HTML rendering on the HTC Touch Pro2 device in Internet Explorer Mobile and were wondering if you folks could help!
The device is running Windows Mobile 6.5 with the latest ROM (1.90.61.0) available on the Orange (UK) network.
I've attached a zip (new user, can't post links) containing sample HTML and a screenshot of the WM6.5 emulator (WVGA Professional, 480x800) displaying the sample HTML. When I access the same HTML page with the HTC Touch Pro2, the box only displays over half of the screen. It almost seems that the text is either twice the size it should be, or the box is half the size.
We do have a client using another WM6.5 device which I believe is also not affected by this problem, which is a Toshiba TG01.
We're working to obtain a few more WM6.5 devices next to try and further pinpoint this problem but I was wondering if the folks here had any suggestions or had run up against this before?
I've had a search around for this issue but can't find anything other than a suggestion that the viewport in the registry is set too big but I've tried fiddling with that and it's made no difference, not to mention that it's the same as on the emulator.
Speaking directly to HTC about this problem they suggested using another browser. Although the device does come with Opera, we're not currently able to certify that our web interface will work with it. As these devices are used in the field by many different clients it's hard to make that kind of change for one client quickly.
I would love to hear if people have any suggestions as to a fix or have at least run up against this problem before.
Many thanks,
Matthew
Probably more useful if people can see what I'm talking about! I should also note that the sample code scales fine on WM5 and WM6 devices we have and has done for some time. This is, however, possibly the first high DPI device we have encountered.
Thanks all
Matthew
