turn scroll wheel light off - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

hi
well i think the most thing that consume power in htc diamond is the scroll wheel light. Because there is i light for each event such as missed call, new massages ... etc. Therefore, turning them off well reduce the battery waste which is a problem with diamond. Anyone know how to registry tweak it ?

You should have asked this question on the tweaks THREAD instead of creating a NEW ONE.
I think that the wheel light consumes very little power. Not too sure but the light doesnt seem to be the issue for battery drain.

I also think that the turn wheel consumes nearly zero power
in comparison to the chipset, backlight, radio, gps, etc. ...

Turn off Flashing LED's

WHen I'm driving my car at night the flashing lights, on my Blue Angel are very off putting.
If it possible to disable the Blue (Blue tooth LED) and Green signal LED, but still have Blue tooth and us the phone?
To turn off the Blue LED from coming on with Bluetooth go to:
1. Hkey_Local_Machine/Drivers/Builtin/BWLEDMGR
1a. Change the Index value below it to "0" it is currently set to "1
Soft Reset and the Blue LED will not turn on.
Here is a revised procedure for turning the Green LED off. Cabrio came up with this.
2. To keep the Green LED from flashing or coming on at all go to
Hkey_Local_Machine/Drivers/Builtin/NLEDMGR leave the dll name as NLEDMgr.dll
2a. Change the Index value below it to "0" it is currently set to "1".
This seems to completely shut off the LED and keeps it from getting called up.
Make sure you soft reset after making the reg. change.
Do this at your own risk.
I am working on a proggie that will allow you to turn off the LEDs at will, and also turn them back on.
Stay tuned...
OMG the *flashing* is so annoying.
It can be on or off (I dont care) just wtf does it have to flash?
Agreed in the strongest way. LEDs as OEM have delivered the device are terrible. I don't like to sleep with a police car in my room! LED should be entirely user conifigurable as to what solid or blinking means or if they are used at all. The registry changes above seem to work fine for me. It would be ineresting to know what other values for these registry entries do (if anything)
Any new info on this subject?
The only ones who like it in my house are my cats, and i like me sleep to much to let it continue
Yes if you change the Registery Settings, as described above it all works
One solution:
Use tweaks2k2.Best software having abt 92 safe and reliable registry tweaks. It has the option of turning on/off leds, also increasing the keyboard light time

thanks! you forgot to mention the link to the program

Version 3.6.0 released today includes part of the trick for HTC Magician.
hey happygoat, hows ur program coming along?
Actually this technique listed (registry hack) only partially works.
I noticed to my rather large annoyance that it started flashing again while I was sleeping. There are other times when its start flashing as well, eg if you disconnect ActiveSync in progress.
This is unbelievable! Removing the LEDs cut my time to connect to the WLAN from turn on in half, from 12 to 6 seconds! Most of it seems to be that it starts connection attempts almost at once. Also the range is improved! Anybody know how this is possible?

has anyone tested the battery life?
Not me. That's not one of my concerns. But I can say that the unit is also a lot more responsive when turned on. It has annoyed me that the first 5-10 seconds I couldn't do much with it. Now it's ready for use at once! This one is the best tweak I have seen so far.

I definately think its coincidence. Anyway its easy to test, just change the registry back and do a timed test.
I wish i could... I can get the GPRS LED light up again, but the BT LED is dead no matter what I do. Anyway, I did at least 20 tests two days ago (before I changed the LED thing yesterday, because of another thread I started here about long connection times), and it was around 12 seconds every time. Now it's around 6 every time, and I haven't made any other changes to the unit.
For the love of god how do I turn this flashing light off???
The registry hacks dont work well enough, the right green LED still flashes in certain cases

I believe that you are talking about Notifications. Well, that's a LED that works different. It's easy to turn off but it will go on the next time you have any notification event. BTW, I believe that in Sounds and Notifications in settings you can turn off this LED in some events.
I could give you a little program that I did form my internal use so you can check what I'm talking about (Notification LED going ON in any notification event no matter if it has been turned off by any other external program).

There is no place in notifications to turn off the flashing LED. Although I think u are right about it being the problem...
This works in my hx4700, but I don't know if this is what you are asking for.

Power Off Backlight???

hello,
i had a neo and it turned off backlight after some while (but not power off the device). i also want this for the artemis. but artemis just dims the backlight to low level. i want it to completly turn off the backlight. is this a registry setting?
i need this for online activity in background (for example ICQ)...
anyone?
docmax
hi Docmax and everyone else.
I also am looking for exactly this options, but i would use it for listening to streaming radio. I must say that i find it very strange, this is not an standard possibility in wm2005 with the artemis.
Lets hope some bright member knows a solution to our problem.
Thankx y'all!
You should consider PhoneAlarm from Pocketmax, with the profiles you'll get full control of your backlight, and they even have a button/screen-lock software over there

The LED is consuming very very very much ..
In one day it is consuming as much power as needed for just one SMS to be sent ... that's really much.
So, switch off the LED (if somehow possible) and you will spare let say 5 minutes of the battery life withing the one charging cycle.
This is really a saving

yup.the LED blinks like 1sec/blink >similiary..
so im thinking of the possiblity of changing the setting in the registry key
and will it affact the ROM(ori WM5 from HP) later on.

Keep backlight off

I'm looking for an application or something that will keep the backlight off at all times while it's running. Sometimes late at night out in the country I don't need it to be able to see the screen very well and I'd like to save battery power as much as possible. Battery life is a constant concern when you're away from AC outlets.
The app is called LUMOS (it changes the backlight setting depending on the light around you) you can find it here it saves a lot of battery also NueDynamicClock is a must have if you want longer battery life I hope it helps
I have a similar problem - how do I prevent the backlight timeout from triggering ?
I use g-watch countdowntimer and when using that I wan the backlight to remain on but unless I keep touching the screen the backlight goes off after a few minutes.
Is there a registry key or something I can change to make g-watch an exception ? - I know my TOmTOm works fine
Sorry to clarify, I have found my problem is not backlight related and hence will start new thread.

[MOD] Notification led through OLED screen

I was thinking that since the OLED screen does not use any backlight, lighting up a few pixels just to form a little led blinking would not tax too much the battery.
I don't know, however, whether waking-up the phone entails significant increase in battery usage. A middle solution would be to wake it every 2 minutes for 10 seconds in order to display the notification and the let it sleep again.
What do you think?
Sounds good good but im not to sure about that... there was another post about having the illuminating back button flash, maybe both menu and back buttons.. alternating between each one with a speed setting?
i love the idea, but the screen is 'off' for a reason...
first of all i don't know if oled screens can 'burn' (meaning the pixels are still showing when they are suppost to be 'off', because they have been 'on' to long)
Also, if it means the chips that control the screen have to be active instead of inactive, your battery drain may be kinda big....
I don't know that OLED would have burn-in (that's more a CRT thing), but they might well burn out - they do have a finite lifespan.
But you're probably right, it would likely mean that the phone couldn't completely go to sleep.

well, in such a case we could rotate randomly the pixels to be lit up (as in real old time screensavers).
With regard to out of sleep battery consumption you have a point. Maybe we could just wake it up for a few seconds and then have it sleep again. In any case if we assume that the major battery draw is the typically screen, then such an arrangement might prove to be acceptable - at least in some cases.
Why not use the backlight on the menu and back button? They shouldn't use too much power or get burned?

Yes - I agree this is a very good alternative - yet I do not know how bright these leds are.
Nevertheless, I noticed that the screen is able to display a big animated icon of the battery charging even when the phone is off! (I just received it and I put it in the charger). Thus, I assume there is some kind of control of what the display shows without having to wake-up the system (at least the whole of it).
If this is the case, we could have some led like notification even when the android is in sleep!!
what you say is not necessarily true.. that icon is when the phone is off. which does not translate to being able to display something on a sleeping phone when it is on.. two totaly different issues ..

True. I will check whether it is displayed when the phone is on sleep (still off and charging). It implies, however, that the screen can be controlled (also?) independently of the OS.
(all in all the touch buttons respond / light up when touched though the phone is off and charging).
Go guys!
I'm waiting this modification to buy this phone!

Very funny topic one year later !
NoLED, BLN ...
The community is very powerfull !
Thank you all
Guys, just search NoLed on market and it's already made ^^. However, following neldar thread on BLN, NoLed use about 10% more battery per hour than off screen. BLN which is found in most of the kernel ( Except damianGTO one ) use about 1% more battery per hour and turn on the backlight of the touch key. Hope this will help you
