Device is stuck in bootloader mode - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

XDA - WIKI says
Problem 4: Device is stuck in bootloader mode (tri-color screen)
Important : Windows VISTA users need to make a change to their system to successfully use many ROM packages. See Mr. Vanx's guide here
If you are using Windows XP or Windows 2000, you MUST have the Microsoft .net framework installed on your computer.
Disable ActiveSync: connections -- settings -- uncheck "Allow USB Connections"
Remove the battery, put it back in, connect the USB cable, power on the unit (this should allow the USB port to be opened again)
Wait a minute or two, if you get a message that device cannot be recognized just close and ignore it
Open mtty.exe and select "USB" from the dialog box, then hit Ok.
You should see a white screen, hit enter and you should see a prompt like this: "USB>"
Type set 14 0 (do not copy and paste!!!) and hit enter
Soft reset with stylus
OS ROM and radio version should be back and OS functional, the unit isn't a BRICK anymore!
if it doesn't unbrick, repeat all the steps but with the command set 16 0
Click to collapse
Whomever it was that wrote this.... I LOVE YOU!

Nice declaration in Pulbic... hehehehe

xda2 unlocking

hi:
i am having problem unlocking my xda2 ,anyone can help me?
i have followed the instruction shown below:
Code:
XDA Developers XDA2UNLOCK tool
This program will extract the unlock code from your XDA II.
For this to be possible, a few steps are necessary:
1. The XDA II needs to be put in bootloader mode.
NOTE: THIS WILL WIPE ALL YOUR DATA SO FIRST BACK-UP!
You enter the bootloader by holding the Power button and the Action button
while pressing the stylus in the reset hole on the bottom.
In the bootloader mode, the display will be gray and say Serial at the top.
2. Next put the device in the USB cradle. The display will now say USB
and the first time Windows will detect a new device.
3. Disable USB in Active Sync in 'File -> Connection Settings'
Now the device is ready to extract the unlock code.
Type YES when you have completed the above steps and want to continue: YES
once i type in yes the dos box dissapears and i can not go any further, i have tried it may times , and no joy, i use window ME ,please help.

I'm afraid it might not work on Windows ME, although I have had no opportunity to test it. It sounds like it can't open the USB device. It has only been tested successfully (as far as I know) on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
thank you ,i will try to unlock it on another computer using window xp

02 universal stuck in bootloader, cant fix.

I just got this thing and wanted to upgrade to WM6, i downloaded a new crossbow for the device and started to flash it following the instructions included with the upgrade. a little way thru the flash i got a connection error and now the device is stuck in bootloader. I tried the program to recover from stuck bootloader but on the drop down menu there is no USB option, all COMs only. But oddly enough the bootloader does say USB when plugged in.
I am running Vista which came with my new pc and I am hating it lately.
Please someone help me out, i dont really know what to do now. I really want this thing fixed and properly flashed to WM6.
thanks, Noob
hi
does the PC recognizes the PDA?
if when you connect your pda to your pc (with removed sd card) you see"usb" (on screen) it does
ihave problems like you (vista notebook,no usb on mtty......) but i can fix them
first download:http://www.wikifortio.com/141334/mtty.exe.zip (not from wiki)
(it has usb port for mee)
then
1. Take out the SD and SIM cards
2. Opened ActiveSync and go to file, connection setting and Un-check "Allow USB Connections". Then press Ok and close ActiveSync
3. Put in bootloader mode (Power + Light + reset) which brings up the "un-backlit" screen with "Serial" at the top and v0.XX at the bottom
4. Plug in USB cable DIRECTLY from PC to Jasjar (MAKE SURE NOT TO USE A USB HUB). You MIGHT then see a warning window complaining that an "Unsigned" device driver is being attempted to be installed. You will be prompted to either "STOP INSTALLATION" or "CONTINUE ANYWAY" - this warning can be safely ignored and so just click on "CONTINUE ANYWAY".
5. Open mtty utility / software
6. Select USB from the "Port" drop-down on the upper left corner of the dialog box and hit OK
7. Then another screen will come up. Hit enter and that will show "USB>"
8. Type "set 14 0" and hit enter. You will see some jibberish on the mtty utility which will again be suffixed by "USB>". Your HTC Universal will not seem to have done anything and should still indicate "USB" at the top, and "v2.01" (or equivalent) at the bottom. You can now close the mtty utility.
9. On the Desktop PC unplug the USB cable and re-plug it into the exact same USB port again. From this point onwards, you must use this exact same USB port to flash the ROMs of your Universal because failure to do so will most proably result in "Connection Errors" at the beginning of the flashing process when the RUU attempts to establish communication with your Universal. After re-pluging into the USB port, you can then run the ROM update JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.exe (or latest version)
9,1.if you can't upgrade your rom on vista see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723&highlight=ruu+vista
i recommend you for first time upgrade your rom with"Beasty & Laurentius 2.09.01"
by me:right click on each ruu that you want to use go to properties intop bar
goto compatibility's tab in compatibility mode tik the run this program in...... checkbox then select"windows xp service pak 2"
10. It will go through the upgrade process with the 3 steps and "completed successfully" on the PC
11. Picture 1 below shows what the screen looked like after step 6 after disconnecting the USB cable, as 100% complete
for picture goto

what hapened to you txkuntryboy ?
All you need to fix it is in the WIKI

Possible solution for issues with MAGLDR, USB Flasher.

Let me share one solution that I developed recently.
At some point, after numerous reinstallation of Android, my HD2 become undiscoverable for MAGLDR as well as for Android flasher via USB Flasher. I wasn't able to flash anything. "Waiting for USB connection" was displayed until timed out. I did reset phone, removed battery, rebooted PC - nothing happened. I started to think about replacing USB cable.
Here is what helped at the end:
- Disconnect phone from PC
- Open Command Prompt
- Type "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1", Enter.
- Type "start Devmgmt.msc", Enter.
- Two commands above should be entered in the same command prompt window or it won't have an effect.
- When Device Manager opens select View->Show Hidden Devices
- Expand all nodes and remove all inactive devices - and icon of such device is grayed out
Here is an article about it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241257
After that when I connected phone with USB cable system reinstalled drivers from scratch and I was able to flash.
:::Edited:::
Try killing any adb running in the background first
I'm not sure it is somehow connected with Android or ADB since when HD2 is in flasher mode it is not runnung Android. The device is detected like HTC Usb Sync or something like this.
Another option is to use updated flasher attached. I found it on russian forum.

Meh... I can't read. For some reason I read that you were talking about connecting your phone to the PC, i.e. within android, for USB mass storage etc....
Even the topic of the thread says otherwise. I'll go get my eyes tested...
Sometimes it's because ADB still in your PC memery, just force close it and everything will be fine.
As I said I tried to reboot PC but it didn't help. I doubt ADB start with Windows but rather only when you start using it.

Thanks man. I was already freaking out because of this.
I'm going to try this on my desktop, that's why I stopped using it lol
Sent from my HD2 using xda premium
Thanks! It worked very well!!
PG
Really thank you, you saved my phone
Mine has always done that. I just have to wait until the flasher program gets to the Looking for USB step and disconnect/reconnect the USB cable.
Or get a new cable. I had the same issue but even this guide didnt work. My cable needed replacing, luckily I had a spare in my closet. Tried it and bingo all the drivers installed. If it just wont find it, get a new USB cable.
I have the same problem but in bootloader my usb connection works...when i try to flash recovery with usb flasher mode in magdlr doesnt.
Wait for usb............and is stuck like that.So its not the cable..i tried to install new driver..i tried with command prompt....im freaking out!!
Installing WMDC 6.1 worked for me

|GUIDE| PC Does Not Recognize Note 2

If you get the errors that state that your phone is not recognizable or the drivers on your new PC is
A. Cannot be found
B. Any other message that doesnt state "Your Device Is Ready To Be Used"
Then follow this guide
1. This is really simple and easy, CHANGE THE CABLE. Maybe the cable you are using cannot transfer data correctly or its just broken or it just doesn't like you.
2. Some have reported that using a USB 3.0 port on the PC in question may not work correctly. Try using a USB 2.0 port instead if possible.
3. Now this is what works the best if you use custom cooked roms.
-Launch the phone key pad on your note and press *#7284# (don’t forget to start with that * symbol!)
-When you press the last pound sign (#) this will bring up an option that will allow you to change your USB connection settings (modem or PDA) – change it to PDA.
-At the bottom there is a button that says Qualcomm USB. Click on it.
-In that menu click on MTP + ADB option.
-Save and reset.
-Wait for your phone to restart.
-Plug the micro USB cable to the Note 2 and the the other end to your PC or Mac
-Let your computer down load and install drivers.
-Once installing is done, unplug then replug phone.
-There should be a USB symbol on your phone in the status bar - click on it. It should ask if you wsnd to use mtp or ptp. Click MTP
-At this point your PC should open the phone’s folders in explorer similar to the screenshot above.
Do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight.
i do not take credit finding all of this by my own, i used google.

(3) Disable the internet connection of your pc
(4) Reboot your phone to fastboot mode and plug it to your PC's USB 2.0 port (important)
(5) Open device manager on PC and scan for hardware changes from the option if your device is not listed already
(6) If it shows 'Asus android device' -> "ASUS Android Bootloader Interface', right click on it and uninstall device with the 'delete the driver software' option ticked.
(screenshot 1 & 2)
(7) Now scan for hardware changes (magnifying glass icon)
(8) It will show 'Android' with an ! symbol
(screenshot 3)

After I completed all the steps, my phone showed on screen "press any key to shutdown" and even in device manager it shows android ADB interface as hidden. Help please. Rebooting again to fastboot mode doesn't help because it shows the same screen "press any key to shutdown" on reconnecting with PC.

Well i learned this from somewhere but actually you need to turn off the secure boot in your PC from the BIOS. That's what helped me do it

Well you know how there's a BIOS in your PC which contains the basic commands required to run a computer. There is a setting called secure boot inside your BIOS. You need to turn it off and then install fastboot tools. To open the BIOS, repeatedly press F10 or F8 on your computer while it is opening. This is how it worked for me atleast
