Hello first post here...
Have the new HTC TuochPro2 and am trying to get the email tab to point to my good messaging application instead of the default windows active sync- whatever crap.
It looks like the data is stored in HKLM/software/htc/manila/configuration/3 key and points to a xxx.page name... with [[IDS_EMAILTITLE]] string as well- is there any way to edit this? it seems to be pointing to a Manilla://email.page file? can i modify that somehow to point to the goodlink application?
I have tried Advanced_config, and checking out remote reg entried- maybe i missed an older post.
Thank in advance
Hmmmm. Out of curiousity, what version of Goodlink do you have?
I have v5.0.3.25 EN (under About Goodlink) on a WINMO 6.1 (Tmobile Touch Pro unlocked on ATT plan).
I can launch calendards, notes, tasks.. but EMAIL doesnt seem to launch..
Also, a lot of apps (say from START > IE or from the TouchPro launchpad) doesnt seem to want to launch. Wierd..
Goodlink worked fine on my ATT FUZE without issues.. I just upgraded.. hope I don't have to revert back to the teen tiny fuze.
I have just bought a CDMA Touch Pro 2 (swedish keyboard) and I really dont like HTC Sense. If I uncheck HTC Sense in today plugins it looks normal again, but all the HTC programs are still there, like SMS.
When I recieve a SMS it shows in a preview window but there is no way to reply to the message. I need to first close the preview window, open the SMS program, open the message and then choose to reply. In my Samsung i780 with WM6.1 I had the option to reply in the preview window.
Who is to blame for this change? WM6.5 or HTC?
Can I restore the original WM-programs? Or do I need to get a clean WM 6.5 rom? In that case, what rom do you recommend? I need a clean WM 6.5 swedish rom with support for swedish hw keyboard. Preferably WM 6.5.5 or 6.5.3.
Thanks!

If you have Sense turned off like you describe, then I think what you're seeing there is actually the new message threading in WM6. It's possible to turn this off in the phone options, I don't remember exactly where right this moment. But, try turning that off and see if sms takes you straight to the view you want after that.

No, the SMS program is actually called "HTC Messages" and it also has that "HTC look". and if I use the old today screen and click on "No unread messages" I get to the classic SMS program, but I can only access my email accounts from there. The SMS/MMS account has been removed.
In my i780 I had over 10000 SMS (5000 received, 5000 sent) and it worked very well, couldnt notice any sluggishness. The HTC program takes ages to open with only 100 messages. I really dont need to save all messages but I think it sucks when my old phone is handeling it better than my new.
Btw, writing this on my TP2, it's wonderful but I would love it even more if I could fix these small problems
Have you tried a soft reset after a hard reset, before the customization?
The OS is in ROM and should not be altered.
The customizations are in Extended ROM and run after the OS has installed itself.
So a soft reset before the extra's are installed should prevent it from installing at all.

I havent tried that. It sounds like a good idea, but is it safe? What happens if I soft reset too early?
First of all, I've learned that my TP2 actually is a GSM version, not CDMA.
Now I'm running http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=629137 which works very good but it's too bloaed. I still want a clean WM 6.5.5 rom.
There arent many to choose from since I want a swedish one, so how hard is it to modify TK-ROM v0.94b? All I want to do is to remove all the extra.
I just upgraded my Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 to WM 6.5 and have the following questions:
1) With WM 6.1 there used to be a pulldown button in the top right corner of the screen that would allow you to see what applications where running and to close anything that were no longer needed. This is no longer available in WM 6.5, can anyone tell me how to see what applications are currently running on my phone with WM 6.5?
2) With WM 6.1 when selecting my Favorite Contacts I was given an option to Call, email, text the person. Now with 6.5 it immediately calls the individual without giving any other options. Since I text most of the time this feature is really missed.
I'm sure these can be solved by changing some option in my phone, if anyone could help me out it would be appreciated.
unfortunately thats not fixable. the new sense 2.5 is designed that way (poorly imo). I switched back to tf3d and 6.1 for various reasons; this being one of them.
I have the T-Mobile version.
1) The item is still there, just with a different style. (This could be T-Mobile only).
2) Click on the icon on the far right side of the item.
well two things that can be fixed
1 . little drop down was the task manager so just install this program and itll be back
2 . when you click to add the contact to favorites select view contact card and that will give you the options every time you click on that person .
tseidel you are The Man!
I was just about to ask cirrob how to go back to 6.1 (not at all relishing reinstalling all my apps). cirrob bummer on you having to reinstall 6.1.
So tseidel does the cab just change a registry entry?
The Favorite fix isn't quite as slick as 6.1 but infinitely better than nothing.
Thanks again!
no actually it adds the old task manager thats y if you go to programs task manger it looks dif but its serves the same purpose
6.5 has many quirky issues. Of all the cooked ROMs I've tried, the official T-Mobile 6.1 was the fastest, most stable, most memory, and most functional of them all. I'm currently using T-Mobile 6.5 as it gets better battery life, location based weather (which I like) and is very stable, but has less RAM and ugly backgrounds.
But I also miss the option for two numbers available on each favorite, the old default keyboard (you had to use a stylus with), and the recently opened programs in the start menu. Now I have to scroll through a million icons if I can't fit the program on my prog tab.
1- Install "Dutty's Task Manager" and you have back old button for task
huh.....
Im running 6.5 and i have the task manager in top right....
go to settings->system->task manager->then one of the tabs. cant remember and phones battery dead so cant be bothered to find out.
its in the somewhere though

This is unnecessarily complicated, since it forces you to choose the contact method every single time.
The correct solution is to do it exactly as in 6.1 and select the preferred contact method for each favorite. When you want to use a different method, tap on the grey name area below the contact picture instead of on the contact picture itself. That will pop up the contact card and allow you pick from among all available contact methods.

I'd be pretty surprised if you're running the official Sprint WM 6.5 ROM, from which this has, in fact, been removed.
It's not hard to install a replacement, but doing so is required in order to get the Task Manager back on this ROM.
THX
to tseidel also... I tried all the 'higher' numbered ones and none worked (on Rho SEA WM6.5 update) but this one!!
I use wk task manager which i found here on xda. it is great I am surprised nobody uses it. I covers the top bar and has little icons of all the programs running. you can click on it to open the program. or you can touch and hold and have a bunch of options. it will take a little playing around to figure out all the options. it also comes with a program launcher that you swipe the screen to bring up. I dont use that feature because I use spb mobile shell which has a great launcer that is completely customizable.
The question I have is that when clicking on the message preview or when clicking on "Send Message" from the contact details screen, is there a way to default to using the WM messaging instead of HTC's? I much prefer the threading of WM as it's quicker and not sluggish. My sig has my current phone specs.
Thanks!

Give this cab a try, I think it's what you're looking for...it disables the HTC SMS interface. You'll still have the "messaging" tab in TF3D/Sense, but when you select a message on that tab, it will go straight to the WM interface.

Thanks for the advice. I installed the .cab and did a soft reset but it's still popping up with the HTC SMS interface for messages
-Not sure if the NGR ROM is preventing the .cab from working.

That's possible, I'm honestly just running the stock tmo ROM (6.1), so the issue could just be 6.1 vs 6.5. I have seen other cabs on here that do the same thing, they might be 6.5-compatible. I don't have any of the others anymore or I'd just post them here for you. I'm pretty sure I found them just by searching "disable HTC SMS"
Would also be interested in getting the original Winmo interface working for 6.5, the sense messaging app is craptastic!
Still haven't had any luck with this yet. I tried installing the Zeyene cab but that didn't fix anything. I then installed the SMS cab that NRG provides with his ROM, but that's just a different skin and was just as slow as the HTC SMS.

Yeah, that's the other one I've used, and I know it works on 6.1, but I can't say for 6.5...either the HTC messaging module is different in 6.5, or just accessed differently by the system.

Well Zeyeene claims to be for 2.5. I've got a registry editor on my phone so if anyone knows a registry fix for this then by all means, do tell
Just checking to see if anyone's thought up anything on this yet.
I like Windows Mobile, and I like TouchFlo3D. However, I do not like that fact that the built in HTC SMS is slow as dirt. Any time I try and message someone with the HTC sms it makes my phone crawl. When I use the WM version it works much faster and I like the way it looks more. Does anyone know of a ROM that fixes this?
So apparently I've been wrong with my terminology here. I believe what I should be describing is to over ride the manilla sms application with the HTC one... But perhaps someone more knowledgeable can help me out with the terms.
anyone figure this out for wm 6.5? the modified 47dd6acd_manila worked on 6.1 but it does nothing on 6.5.. seems htc changed the filename.
i hate this laggy htc sense sms..
Bump this... please someone.
with sense 2.5...
the messager is actually HTC Message Client.
an overlay of HTC Message.
i am not sure of a cab that disables it.
but i know there are custom roms that do not include it.
those roms have the same messenger as sense 2.1 roms.
hope that helps. somehow.
in the quest for a fix.
I am looking for this fix still as well...someone please update if a fix is found. Energy July 1 ROM Does not have HTC Messenger built in...I however find Energy ROMS unreliable--so it wont work for me.
The only thing that works for me is removing text messages from TouchFlo then creating a shortcut to the text app.
Not that it's just slow the send button is in a different location using the Windows or HTC messaging. Sometimes I end up hitting back instead of send because I didn't notice which interface I was in.
bump. what is the text app?

It is just the shortcut in programs for text messages it just takes you to the default WM text messenger program.
Did you try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614
It's for the touch HD but tp2's quite similar.
Would love to know how to disable landscape mode in the messaging app I find the flip between modes is way to slow.
I would love a fix for this. I hate HTC Messenger so much, and I don't want to have to flash to a different ROM :/
Hi there,
I've recently downloaded both Vito's SMS-Chat and Birdsoft's Extreme Text programs as possible alternative text-messaging clients. I have a Tilt 2 phone running on Windows Mobile 6.5 - with the most recent upgrade provided on the HTC Web site. (My phone runs on HTC Sense, for example.) I'm having a problem with both of these text-messaging programs. Both programs install successfully on my phone, and both programs show sent and received messages that have been initiated by using the default SMS client; however, when using either SMS-Chat or Extreme Text, I am UNABLE TO SEND a text message. In the threaded-messaging windows, they will list the messages that I have written - but the messages don't actually get sent. Are these two programs incompatible with the Tilt 2 phone running on the upgraded WM 6.5 / HTC Sense? Is there anything that I could do to get these programs to work? I find the default HTC Sense messaging client to be slow and cumbersome. Thanks for whatever advice that anyone could provide. I noticed that someone else had posted a question similar to this one - regarding SMS-Chat only - but a solution didn't appear to be listed in that thread. Also, since my question is with regard to both of these text-messaging programs, I decided to begin a new thread. Thanks again.

Why aren't you asking this question on Vito's or Birdsoft's website? This would be a support question for them to answer. Most of us use Arksoft messenger or some other included one from our ROMs. If the program isn't compatible with your device, then they should offer you a refund.
EDIT: After looking at both websites, it appears that SMS Chat is compatible with WM versions 5, 6.0, and 6.1. Extreme Text is listed as compatible with 6.0, 6.1, and 6.5.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I contacted both Vito's and Birdsoft's customer-service departments; I'm just waiting for a response from each. Thanks, too, for taking the time to research the WM versions with which these two programs are compatible.
I tried to install Arcsoft, the program to which you referred. My phone indicated that the program installed successfully; but I cannot see the icon, nor can I find it anywhere in any of the directories. I installed a "security policy lifter" cab, too, which I found mentioned somewhere in this forum. Evidently, that little cab is to be installed before Arcsoft is. Anyway, do you have any ideas why this isn't working for me? If you do and if you have a moment, please pass them along. Thanks again for the response.

If you use a stock ROM, meaning a ROM image that the device came with or an upgrade from your carrier or HTC, then you will need the security policy lifter installed beforehand. This will lift the restrictions on your device for modifying the system files that Arksoft messenger changes. If you are running a custom ROM, then you should not need that cab at all as this change will already be cooked in.
Make sure that you install the WVGA version of the cab file. This is the resolution that the Rhodium (Touch Pro2) uses, which is 480x800.
Arksoft Messenger is meant to replace the default HTC messenger. There should not be any icons or Start Menu links for you to open. The application is meant to stand in the place of HTC Messenger wherever that application would have opened.
The only other thing I can think of is to remove both of those programs and then install sdkcerts. I've attached that file for your reference. Once that installs, soft reset your device and then install Arksoft. If that doesn't work, (keep in mind that it replaces HTC Messenger) then maybe try out a custom ROM or something that has it cooked in already.

Thanks for your thorough response and for the time that you took in compiling this information. I've already done everything that you suggested, though, and I've even contacted Vito's and Extreme Text's support teams... but to no avail. Neither has replied. With regard to Arcsoft Messenger, I tried just as you suggested; but that didn't work. I think, at this point, I should just let it go. Looking for a "cooked" or custom ROM might be a bit beyond my scope of knowledge. I imagine that I'd have to do a hard reset as well - not something that I enjoy! If you could think of anything else, by all means let me know! Otherwise, thanks again for lending your expertise and patience. I appreciate it.

The first flash can be a bit daunting, but it gets easier with time. Hard resets and flashes can be prepared for by the numerous backup applications available. Microsoft Myphone will backup all of your personal information for you. Any programs you have installed from the marketplace can be re-downloaded. Any applications you've installed in any other fashion can be backed up and then reinstalled. Once you get the knack for flashing, it is a simple task to learn how to automate the flashing process so that everything installs and restores itself automatically. Most all current ROMs for the Rhodium will use a different messenger program than the HTC one.
