need to remap Keyboard symbols after Schap ROM upgrade - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

using att 8525...ROM upgrade seemed to have gone ok, but now my keyboard second row symbols have been remapped.
Example: My "@" symbol over the letter "E" now produces a "?" instead of a "@"
how do I remap my 8525 keyboard?

use Schap's Advanced Config (should be installed) to switch the Keyboard layout to "AT&T/Cingular" or just "Cingular" if its an older version of the program.

Try using Schaps Advanced Config.
You can either search it in the forum or in the FTP.
After you get the cab, before installing it, make sure you have DOT_NET_COMPACT_FRAME_WORK 2.0 or 3.5 installed and then install Schaps Advanced Config.
Dependig on the version you install look for the TAB Miscellaneous or search for Keyboard Settings and change the language to the desired one.
Cheers.

wow, kind of strange...I went into the registry and did the following update:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
"Layout"=263177 (decimal)
then I soft rebooted and everything was fine.
Then I saw the replies to this thread and opened Schap's Advanced Config, expecting it already to be set to "Cingular" based upon my above change to the Registry, but it had the keyborad layout as "Chinese", so I reset it to "Cingular".
I'm happy, but confused.

Hardware keyboard incorrect mappings w/ custom roms?

Ever since I've started using custom roms (and even the HTC published WM6 upgrade rom) I've noticed that, when using the slideout keyboard, a ton of the left special character keys dont map correctly to their corresponding screen output.
For example, pressing the special character key and then the dash '-', it corresponds to a " quote on the screen.
Doing the special character key and then the '_' underscore on the keyboard corresponds to a colin ':' on the screen.
I have a cingular 8525 (unlocked). Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

thanks man, didn't see that option in advanced config until you told me about it

Small problem-Keypad characters are off...

I was just wondering if anyone was having the same issue. I upgraded to CRC's 6.1(Which I love, by the way. Thank you.). When I go to type text all my number and letters work correctly, but the characters are off. For example, I have to press the 2 to get a question mark, when it should be the @ sign. Any suggestions?
Use Advanced Config and change ur keyboard layout
To elabrate a little further....
Settings/System/Advanced Config. go down to keyboard layout, change there. If you're on AT&T change to Cingular. If Advanced Config isn't there, search WIKI Hermes section for keyboard layout. I'm on my PDA right now so I can't give you the exact reg key. This is a very common question, search and you'll find the answer you're looking for
Was this the correct ROM to use for the Cingular 8525? I tried about 3 different regestry tweaks and none of them worked. I looked at another phone and realized that the symbols are in different places than on my phone, and are in the place that my phone thinks they are. i.e on the other phone the @ is on the q, the ? is on the e, but on my phone it's supposed to be the ~ on the q and the @ on the e, but when I press it I get the former. Please help!!
did you try this here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry
Different keyboard layouts for different Hermes versions
Issue: When applying a non-cingular ROM to an 8525 its default keyboard is different than the 8525.
The Fix:
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
"Layout"=263177 (decimal)
Thank you very much.

Can I customize the slide out keyboard (8525)

I've found a lot about the keyboard fix issue where the symbols are incorrect. But my question is this:
Is there a way to change just one character on my keyboard? For example, FN-Q gives me the symbol ~
but I never use that. I use the quote symbol all the the time, but have to open up the symbol screen to get it. If I could somehow edit the registry so that when I press FN-Q I got the quote symbol, that'd be GREAT!
I'm using the AT&T 8525, with CRC 13.3 ROM
thanks.

There's an easy fix for that.
1. Open Device Update
2. Install Schaps Advaced Config.
3. Open Advanced Config
4. Go to Input > Keyboard Layout
5. Select AT&T/Cingular
6. Tap "Done"
Customized, NOT standard Keyboard
The Standard AT&T Keyboard layout is what I have already. I'm wanting to change it, or just change 1 key, the Fn-Q key. Is this possible?
thanks.

Word Completion missing on T-Mobile TP2

I have an HTC Touch Pro2 from T-Mobile running WinMo 6.1. It seems that under Settings, Personal, Input, the "Word Completion" tab is missing between "Input Method" and "Options" that was there on my previous WinMo 5 device. Is this feature missing from WinMo 6.1 in general, or has it been disabled by T-Mo? if it's been disabled, is there a way to enable it?
yeah it's missing in my Tmo TP2 too. I do miss the auto correction feature that was on that tab.
edit : I did not reading the message right sorry

now will that enable the tab to change the settings in the Input settings or just enable the options? I want the word completion, but not the word suggestion.
tkali is right- they are one and the same. Word completion and word correction are both linked to disabling T9

Quick question about the reg edit. I havetriededitthe first valeu but it tells me access is denied. Is there something I am missing?
I made the registry edits mentioned in the other thread (copied below for reference) but I still don't have the missing Word Completion tab even after a soft reset.
From the other thread referenced above:
Diable eT9. Enable COMP IME. This is a registry edit.
Go to: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\layouts\e001 0409
Edit: Ime File = \Windows\compime.dll
Layout Text = COMP IME
Go to: HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9
Edit: XT9SupportMSSip= 0
That will bring you back to the good old word suggestion and dynamic auto completion.
yeah unfortunately it doesn't bring back the word completion tab, which i was hoping.
What exactly does it do then? I didn't notice any change.
it should enable it so that when you're typing, it'll give you 4 (changeable) suggested words as well as auto-correct some words. (type comming & it'll change to coming)
I like the auto-correct feature on the Tilt/MDA because you could type contractions without the apostrophe & the phone would auto-correct it for you. I hate the word suggestion & always had that turned off.
I don't know why they'd take this tab & feature out of the input settings/phone.
I'm still not getting any suggested words; I used to get them when using the Letter Recognizer (WinMo 5), but I don't get them with that or the QWERTY. I may have inadvertently set the # of words to suggest to 0; do you happen to know the registry setting for that?
I have a friend who has a WinMo 6.1 phone, but not from T-Mobile, and the Word Suggestion tab is visible. Seems there must be a setting for that somewhere that T-Mo disabled for some reason.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question, but I got Word Completion/Suggestion working just fine on my T-Mo Touch Pro 2 by pressing the XT9 button on the soft keyboard
Doesn't work while using the hardware keyboard though, which may be what you're asking about
yeah, we're talking about the function working with the hardware keyboard
Gotcha! Ignore me then
OK got the word completion to work but now I have no "space" instead I have ".com" there. Anyone have this problem?...Thanks
Does anyone have the factory settings?
I was actually referring to the on-screen input methods, not the slide-out keyboard. On my previous WinMo 5 device, the suggested words appeared regardless of which method I used - Letter Recognizer, QWERTY, etc. That's what was I looking for.
I also discovered what I did wrong - I had an "n" instead of an "m" in the name of the DLL. I corrected that, did a soft-reset and Viola! I have the suggested words now. It's hard to distinguish an "n" and "m" on that small screen.
The tab is still missing under Settings, Input - I would still like to have that visible if anyone figures out how to enable it.
Thanks for the help.
does anyone have the qwerty reg settings, now i no longer have that function all i have is regular keyboard or when qwerty is selected i have just numbers...thanks
Problem solved T-mo Word completion/no space bar
OK here is what I did on my T-mobile TP2 to get word completion working with the space bar (Mine (space bar) disappeared after I did the reg hack) I put these settings in and now I have word completion and the space bar back.
I went to
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\layouts\e001 0409
Edit: Ime File = \Windows\compime.dll
Layout Text = eT9 IME
Go to: HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9
Edit: XT9SupportMSSip= 0
Now on MY T-mo TP2 I have word Comp and a space bar also. Hope this helps someone...Tj
@TrekkerJmm does SYM on your hardware keyboard still work? (ALT + ,)

Touch Input problem

occasionally the built in keyboard shows me a different than expected keyboard. For example, durring txt messages, it would show the phone keypad "with the 1-9, P, w keys" or it would show the internet one "with .com button". I tryed looking through the registry for it, but its a mess tryn to find the key that was changed. i have the touch input v2.0 (build 35555) on the AT&T rom.
If anyone else has had this problem and knows how to solve it, the help would be amazing.
p.s. on my previous phone, I had the VITO Zoomboard, but i like the way this new keyboard is in how it changes..but not when it changes to something that isn't appropriate for the given event
Did you install the classic word completion or word correction cab? If so,

I installed the disable xt9 file which changes registry values?
Just now I used the resco registry explorer to extract my reg files and found which keys changed:
=== normal keyboard ===
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime]
"CurrentET9Style"=dword:00000000
=== web keyboard ===
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime]
"CurrentET9Style"=dword:00000006
=== numeric keypad ===
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime]
"CurrentET9Style"=dword:00000006
now I gata find a program which will make an exe or lnk to change that value of the reg
I have the exact same issue. The phone seems to get stuck on the number keypad with the W and P and will not go back to the full qwerty.
Soft resets do nothing to reset keyboard. I did the following edits to get word suggestion:
Go to: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\layouts\e001 0409
Edit: Ime File = \Windows\compime.dll
Layout Text = COMP IME
Go to: HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9
Edit: XT9SupportMSSip= 0
Otherwise I have done no registry edits except removing proxy info for Opera to get it to work on Rogers.
This is most annoying so any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
I have tried using opera page before exiting but it still comes up as a number pad.
Applies to any HTC Touch Input 2.0 keyboard

Thanks for this ... you really helped me save a lot of time!
I find that it will also flip to this input style when trying to add a contact. Once it does this I then have to go and start opera, touch the address bar and the input changes back to qwerty. Then I can exit opera. Its kind of a pain but at least I know of the work around.
thanks for the opera info - I did not install any completion cab, but this did fix my keyboard issue.
I just got this problem today. I have yet to be able to change it back.
I can tell you that this occurred in the Windows Edit Contacts menu (that is to say, go to HTC's "Edit Contacts" and select "More").
At first it gave me a simple numbers and arrow keys only keypad. I soft reset and it changed nothing. I then decided to retrace my steps to try to fix it, so I went back to the edit contacts screen and fiddled around, very shortly it switched to the keyboard as described by the OP. Numeric keys, parenthesis, a 'P' and a 'W', etc... stuff used in phone numbers, I suppose. I haven't been able to get it back to a full keyboard, yet. I've messed around with the keyboard options, switched to and back from other keyboard choices and got nothing.
Anyone else want to investigate this further with us?

Same problem for me, so I did the Opera method.
It definitely originated (for me) in "edit contacts".
I used the stock Opera (9?). I did try to just tap the google search bar with no luck.
Just click on the address bar after you start the browser and it will allow you to switch.
*Non-registry changin' noob method*
