I am totally new to pda's but I need to unlock my phone. I have read the threads already posted but I cannot work out how to copy files to the pda or then how to run them. Is their a basic step by step noddy guide in normal English? Ta!
using explore from activesync or mobile devices in my computer
or simply sync'ing files with the pda in which case it should add a
dir under my documents called something like my pdaName documents
and sync

In short I have the new Athena/Ameo, but T-mobile doesn't like anyone using MSN live etc on their web n walk tariff, hence they have excluded it from the ROM.
Question: Do any of you know if it is possible for me to copy/paste the MSN exe from my WM6 Universal and simply dump it into the Windows directory of another WM5 device (e.g. Ameo) in order to use it there?
Do you guys think it is feesable or hazardous? Appreciate any feedback on this.
Did you check if the windows directory has instmsgr.exe or not? Generally the only thing they exclude is the shortcut. They don't delete the actual application.

No, it's not present.
I've tried taking the msn mobile files from the Rom kitchen thread, copied them the the Ameos windows folder then run the instmgr.exe. Nothing happens.
Anyone else have any ideas?
hi there,
As you will guess by my question and post count i am a fully fledged n00b and have just bought the o2 xda orbit.
It such a great forum and enjoying reading all these mod's however there is one slight problem...
...how do you add them all?! i can obviously download all the files etc to my desktop (PC) but how do i then get them to install and work on my xda? e.g. quickgps mod, emulators, themes etc?
i imagine its very easy to answer and thanks in advance
They files will either be executable on your pc or cab files.
If executable you will run the application on your pc and then if the device is connected active sync will pretty much do the rest for you.
If cab files you explore the device with active sync and then drag the cab files to the device.
Then use file explorer on your orbit to browse to the cab file click on it on the device and bingo it will install.
any hassles or specifics pm me and I will happy talk you through individual programs or items.
But I assure you once you have done it once you will wonder why you asked..
ive sent you a pm just about one particular example that im having trouble with but thanks for the reply, slowly getting the hang!!
ok i have a excalibur and i have wm6 on it and im trying install apps on it it is unlocked but i have no clue what a cab file is or how to install it or how to run it is there anyone that can help me??? [email protected] THANK YOU
Generally, you install the cab file to your PC desktop, hook up your phone to your PC via Activesync, and after the sync operation, click the "Explore" icon in Activesync to open the folder with the contents of your phone, drag the cab file icon from your desktop into the new folder you've opened and it's on your phone. Then click on that program file in "File Explorer" on your phone and it will install onto your phone.
Generally, one posts with a topic that is useful and gives a summary of the problem, not "HELP ME!!"
Thanks
ok i have done that and it still wont install some sights say i need netcf 2.0 and i tried installing it and found out i have netcf 3.5 or something like that?

Save games will be tricky as they all are located in their own folder.
Documents are stored in \My Documents\
Pdf's are stored here \Applications\Data\BC4F319A-9A9A-DF11-A490-00237DE2DB9E\Data\IsolatedStore\
Copying them "easily" is not an easy task. For the pdf's I suggest you sideload adobe pdf reader app and than use wppowertools to connect to the iso storage of this GUID BC4F319A-9A9A-DF11-A490-00237DE2DB9E, now you will be able to see all pdf files and copy them easily to the pc. Alernatively if you own a samsung you can use WP7 Root Tools or DiagProvXML (which has built in copy pdf to office hub, from which you can email the pdf).
Docs can not be accessed and will need to be transfered trough skydrive or mail.
okay works good thanks
Sent from my Gold using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
This is an urgent plea as I have found a way to enable SIM Toolkit (a.k.a SIM applications) on all phones but I need someone with a 2nd Gen Device to attach or link the file STK_Application_01.provxml here to confirm the fix (You can use Windows Phone Device Manager 1.9.0.0) and I also need a way to send files to \Windows folder as WPDM will just send it to \My Documents folder
You might be able to send a file to the Windows folder using provxml (via something similar to WindowBreak) on a second-gen Samsung. Otherwise, writing to the Windows folder on second-gen is currently not possible.
To build the provxml file that will move or copy your file to the \Windows folder, this MSDN documentation may help: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/embedded/gg155022
For first-gen phones, there are a number of apps and also ways to use provxml, of course.
