Do any car kits work on the s620? - HTC Excalibur

Hi
I have an s620 and wish to install a bluetooth car kit but cannot find any clear guidance on comaptibility. I need to be able to access the phone book, and the two which interest me are the Bury CC9060 and the Parrot 3200LS. Does anyone know if either or both of these are compatible with the s620 or of any suitable alternatives?
Thanks
MB

As far as calling is concerned, you should have no trouble whichever route you go. The phonebook will give you the most trouble. There's a utility by a company called jetwaremobile.com that allowed my car's bluetooth headunit to receive the phonebook from the dash.

Thanks. Yes, I have heard of jetware - am just nervous on forking out around £200 to discover all it can do is make and receive calls. Which system are you using? Also are you on WM6?

Jetware have a compatibility list on their page for devices that have been proven to work (with a corresponding table of features supported by device.)
I'm using a Pioneer headunit with bluetooth built-in. I sync'd the phonebook under WM6.0. I'm on 6.1 now and haven't tried updating it.

I use this....
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Prod...=105AVX810&search=JVC&searchdisplay=JVC&tp=75
with this....
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=280050&i=105BTA200&tp=8272
but there are alot of better models out now..

Thanks for the advice. Have looked on the jetware site and they don't list the device I am after. Also, are jetware still going as on their own furums people believe they may have ceased!
Have contacted a few of the car-kit retailers and the feedback seems to be that HTC devices in general have a lot of compatability issues and the S620 isn't even listed on any device as being compatible. Am hoping to be able to test in store to see if I can make it sync so will feedback then.

For what it's worth. Dash/S620 works great out of box with BMW 2007 bluetooth. Have used with WM5, WM6 and WM6.1. Complete phone book sync, and send/receive calls.

The BMW is listed as compatible on jetware's site, as is the parrot device the original poster was talking about. It lists it as a 3X00, implying anything in the three-thousand series from parrot will work. I didn't see the Bury one listed. And whether or not they're still actively developing the software, it still works on the dash. It comes as a 30-day trial as well.

Hmmmm....a few remarks, correct me if I am wrong:
1. There is already a BT version 1.0.0.3900 available
2. This is not a HTC device, so I doubt the tools developed here will work on it.

This is an HTC device. All HPs are designed by HTC.
Well, even though I don't want to stop progress because I would like to have the ROM taken apart for my own personal reasons, the 6315 was actually made by Compal. Bad move on the part of HP in my opinion. However, the bluetooth stack that was taken from an iMate JAM worked on the 6315 and that is how most survived until the update was released. So it very well could work on the HTC's. On a side note, if someone could point me in the right direction, I will take the ROM apart, just don't know where to start.

Oops....my bad....excuses!
no htc dont make ALL hp's pda's the H5400's was oem'd from LG
and even if the ipaq in question is made by HTC then that dont garentee that the xda tools work as they are not made by HTC
I can tell you now that the XDA tools do not work on that ROM as it stands. However, looking through the HEX, it is laid out a little differently than the XDA ROM's but have some of the same portions, just in different locations. Now if I knew more about what I was looking at, I could take it apart for you. The 6315 uses Widcomm BT and like I stated before the BT drivers ripped from a JAM worked great on the 6315 so I have a feeling the 6315 drivers will work on the XDA's.
I can also tell anyone looking at it that in the first header of the ROM the letters are shifted 13 characters. So when you see RAT it equals ENG and so on. It looks like they don't do that for very long though.

BT 3900 and 3500 do not support Hands Free Profile or even Headset Profile on my XDAII.. This is important so people can use Caller ID on a BT device and OR a Car Kit with the Hands Free Profile....
Switching stacks is a pain in the but...
Even so, the only OS that even slightly works with Hands Free on the Himalaya, is 2.20 translated but even that has bugs that makes it very frustrating. The 2005 did have a fully functional BT, even having separate serial ports for each BT device, (like GPS), but the other bugs and the limited memory left over from the useless and unerasable Extended ROM from the other OS made it no good..
With this new ROM, I may be tempted to buy the HP again.. When I first bought one, it was DAM slow and the BT SUCKED!!!
Maybe now it is usable.
I love my Himalaya and it's 128 of built in..

I will just have to keep waiting for one of the above unless someone finds a fix for the BT Hands Free.

Reliable BlueAngel bluetooth?

I have a BlueAngel / SX66 on Cingular. I have been through every ROM upgrade you can imagine, all with the hopes that SOME DAY the bluetooth will work properly. More specifically, I have a stick BMW and it's impossible for me to talk on this thing and drive at the same time, not to mention really unsafe, but I absolutely need to talk in the car because I'm on the move a lot. There is a bluetooth headset interface in the car that I know is pretty damn good because it works so beautifully with Motorola devices (specifically the somewhat ancient V600 I have). My SX66 can barely get through 3 seconds of being connected to it before it just goes haywire and drops the connection, locks up my stereo, etc. It's a disaster. So every time a new ROM comes out I sit for hours upgrading just hoping that maybe this time it will work. I've tried a Motorola HS810, HS850, a Logitech Mobile Freedom, a Jabra BT800, and an Ericsson HBH600. Not one of them can consistently hold a connection without it dropping here and there and me having to go to the Bluetooth manager and "reconnect". These are all reputable headsets that work flawlessly with other devices.
Conclusion: The MS bluetooth stack is pathetic.
Problem: I want my SX66 to work with JUST ONE bluetooth device flawlessly. It doesn't need to be the car necessarily, but that would be really sweet if it did. I have recently upgraded to WM5 in another feeble attempt, but alas WM5 doesn't appear to be compatible with GoodLink, the messaging sync software that I'm tied to that makes me use this god awful device (I won't use a Treo because the Palm UI is garbage and it has its own host of problems I've seen). I'm going to have to downgrade back to 1.40 to get GoodLink to work again because its pretty vital to me.
Question: Does anyone know how to get Bluetooth to work consistently with any headset, paired with an SX66? I seriously have sank like $400 just in headsets trying to get this piece of crap to work. If there are any stack upgrades, firmware flashes, etc. WHATEVER I'm willing to try anything. This is the only Windows based device available on the market that is compatible with GoodLink and has a qwerty keyboard that's easy to use.
FYI, the BA uses the Broadcom/Widcomm BT stack, unless you've upgraded it to WM5.

Transfer Phone Book to Car via Bluetooth?

Has any one been successful in transferring their Phone book via bluetooth to the car's phone book? If so, can you please let me know how?
I have an Acura TL 2008 and it has this option but I cannot seem to transfer even one single contact via bluetooth to the car let alone a whole phone book. I can pair perfectly and make and receive phone calls.
I am using Vp3G's WM6 3.0 version and I have Tmobile USA with unlimited internet. For radio, I am using the latest 1.51.
Is it the limitation of the Hermes or limitation of the Bluetooth in the Hermes?
Thanks.
Shamim
It's definitely not a limitation of the Hermes... I can upload my contacts to car set via Bluetooth. I don't have an Acura though... sorry.

If you right click a contact, do you get the option to send via bluetooth? I do not and am wondering if something needs to be set or turned on.
Thanks.
Use the Jeyo bluetooth software. It will most likely transfer all your stuff to your car with no problems.
http://www.jetwaremobile.com/
It will do SMS messages too. You can even set it to use a different MAPI store such as email. Although there is a character limit that makes it kind of useless.
I have an Audi with MMI and it transfers fine, there is a short delay though after starting it up till the phonebook is available
Bluetooth & Infiniti
I wonder if anyone has had any experience with this utility and a 2007 Infiniti G35x that has the nav / tech package. I can pair my HTC TyTN just fine and use the basic bluetooth functions. I can even send one contact entry at a time but haven't figured out how to send my entire phonebook. I wonder if this app will help.
Anyone have any experience with this phone / car combo?
Thanks everyone for the jetware info. I will give it a shot and reply.

I bet it is a setting issue for the Acura. The Ford Sync system will ask, "Do you want to load phonebook?" right after it pairs...
It works - JETware Mobile Software
Upon suggestion from 'Diaftia' in this thread (THANK YOU!) I downloaded Hands-free Extension from JETware and installed it on my HTC TyTN. I then sat in my car and through the phonebook 'send' mode of the applet, I chose to send all 354 contact records to my car's phonebook via the bluetooth pairing. The car immediate showed 'downloading' at the appropriate time and viola! They were there.
I need to play with it some more to see if I can get more than the first phone number field to download. The Hands-free Extension app does allow you to pick only certain categorized phone records to be sent.
I've since purchased the utility and will explore more of its features! So far, so great! I've been looking for this solution for quite sometime!

David,
I installed the software but did not see a Send option. I was able to select the categories on contacts that I wanted for the phonebook.
Where was the Send option? In the Jetware software or your car?
Thanks.
shamim
In the Extension software from the menu, go to phonebook options. In phonebook options select the categories that you wish to send to the phone. Press the 'menu' soft key option again. You will see 5 options, of which 'send contacts' is one of them. You will then get another set of options and finally a confirmation before it sends the records. Make sure your car or receiving device is set to receive before you finalize the send process.

Well, I have experienced exactly the same problem with my Pioneer, I am able to send one by one contact to the car but I am not able to send the entire phonebook at once. When I try to do that then the bluetooth connection is getting disconnected and that is it. I wonder if that is a problem with the bluetooth driver,
I had a heck of a problem with importing to my new Audi A4 Pervertable, and worse it kept loosing connectivity then re-establisign it (mid song no less). Eventually fixed with BT Radio 1.50, (tried everything before it).
I don't know whether this is relevant or not. This is how I do it.
I have a Garmin Nuvi 610. When pairing the device with my Hermes all I have to do is make sure comm port service is enabled in the hermes bluetooth utility when asked for service type. If it's not enabled then there won't be any sharing of phonebook between them.

I currently use the JetWare Mobile extension ver 1.31 that I updated several days ago and now I can use Voice Command via bluetooth hear and give commands through the car stereo system.
I can also hear announcements of calls, emails via the stereo system. Sorry got off subject...
With this software I'm pretty sure that you will be able to upload your address book. I had no problem with 275+ contacts....
They have a free trial you could try to ensure that it works for you, but it's not free...
If memory serves me think it was about $15, well worth it if your a heavy BT user.

Jac,
Thanks for the info. I already gave jetware a shot but it did not work for me. I do not get the "Send" option on my contacts or phonebook through Jetware or Outlook contacts on the TyTN. I am using Radio 1.51 and Jetware extension 1.31. If I got the Send option, it would work. For Voice command 1.6, do you use the option 'use bluetooth when available" or the option "use bluetooth only".
Thanks for being helpful.

I know in my case, it took me a couple times to figure out how to upload the the contacts to the car stereo using Jetware...
First time was: I did not go into... Hand-free Setting\Menu\Advanced Options\ And check off Phonebooks.
Second time was: I did not leave the car stereo phonebook settings "waiting to accept data" before I sent all the contacts from my PDA.
Any way back to your last question "About VoiceCommand 1.6" I use the setting "Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free only"....
Thanks,
Good luck on your quest...

New BT stack on Hermes

Ok so it seems to be a pretty universal feeling that the bt does not work well on the Hermes. I personally am having trouble with filesharing.
So i searched (forum and google) and found different threads for different bt stacks, but I want to know what is a solid, stable, well-working one I can put on my phone?
I was under the impression that the BT stacks were pretty well intertwined with the ROM making them all but impossible to mix and match. But then I haven't really tried myself, so don't let me rain on your parade.
If anyone would know the answer to this question, it would be Sleuth. He is best man for tweaking BT that I know of. BTW, I haven't had any trouble BT filesharing (assuming you mean objectpush?) with SuperD-Lite. What are you trying to share with?

Oh i see. Im not very knowledgeable about how bt is incorporated and all.
Well I've had trouble finding, linking to, and sending files to my bro's phone (it sometimes works, sometimes doesnt). First he had an LG CU500, now its a Blackberry 7130c. Same with each. I've tried the "file explorer to find file and select 'beam file'" method and Dr. Yar's bluetooth app. Working bt isnt life or death for me, but it was always handy to share a ringtone, etc.
I just tried again with the blackberry. I went in with file explorer, chose a small mp3 on my storage card to send, chose "beam file", waited till his device showed up, clicked on it, and then it said "failed". Is anyone else having similar issues?
EDIT: Ok so now i go and find my old Razr cuz i know bt works on there, and lo and behold it sent! I guess its sometin about the blackberry. Although im still interested in if htere are any ways to improve/upgrade bt.
There was development underway on the Widcomm Stack nearly a year ago... check out this from the wiki Hermes Widcomm Stack I think you will find your answer there.
...and yet I find this stack 10000% better than what was on my 6700.
Especailly with my Audi, the BT never turns off when the phone goes to sleep and all my contacts show up in the HID.
It has been perfect so far!
I had issues with Bluetooth when I was using the latest official WM5 release for my Cingular 8525. None of my Bluetooth headsets would stay connected or even paired. But since upgrading to the "official" AT&T WM6 ROM, Bluetooth works just fine!
I have had very little if any BT issues using vp3G's 3.0 ROM. Very happy but waiting for 4.0!
I'm on Schaps 3.54c and my 8525 has been perfect with my Parrot3300GPS in my car. The parrot picks up battery, signal, contacts, etc. No problems. I wish my Wizard behaved that well.

Ford Bluetooth Car Kit and Hermes WM6

Has anyone had any luck with using their Hermes in a Ford, using their 'Advanced Bluetooth' car kit?
I have paired my MDA Vario II, running Schaps 3.60 WM6, with my new Ford Focus. This shows up as 'Ford Audio' on my phone. Incoming calls are now routed through the car stereo, and I can access my voice tags for outgoing calls by saying 'Mobile, Name'. So far so good!
The issue though, is with the Sim Access Protocol (SAP) routine. I have managed to access the phone contacts list just once, and that was after a wait of over 30 mins. I have never seen the list of recent or dialled calls. So all incoming calls show as just raw numbers, rather than names.
I have ensured that I transferred my main contacts to my Sim Card. I made sure that SAP was selected. I even downloaded and installed the Jetware SAP enhancement program. All to no avail.
Has anyone got SAP running, speedily, with a car kit?
Dont kno how much use this is going to be, but try using the rom Black Majic by JasJamming.
That is the only rom ive ever got to work properly with my Parrot 3200LS Car Kit.
I have a Focus ST with the advanced bluetooth car kit and have been able to access my contacts list when using Sleuth's ROM - but not the recent call list etc. I did not need to move my contacts to the SIM to get that though.
I've recently switched to FunKey's 3.62 ROM and while the car kit works for audio etc. I no longer get the contacts - having said that I haven't installed the BT SAP cab so no real surprises there.
To be honest I'm just glad the car kit works for audio - I've always had problems with the Tytn and car kits so it's very nice that it works at all
Thanks, jaso2005 and forza, for your comments. I think that WM6 has got a way to go to catch up even with Symbian, as far as car kits and SAP is concerned.
From your posts, it would seem that some ROMs are getting there.
I see that Shap's latest (4.00 Beta 2) contains the latest SAP utility and, as I am running his 3.60 ROM at the moment, I think I will wait for the 4.00 final release.
Schaps is just requesting people try his new beta ROM that has this feature.
Just throught I would add my name to the list of people having problems getting their Hermes to work with their Ford bluetooth carkit....
I've got my new s-max, but have not been able to get the phone work work with it. I can discover the car from the phone (ford audio) and pair it up. However, when I go to make a call, the phone does not think there is a carkit present. Also, if I go to the carkit setting on the ford computer it says it can't see a phone connected.
Hissing Syd & Forza, did you do anything special to get yours to work with the advance bluetooth? I've tried a couple of different ROMs and am now running Schaps 3.6a (have also tried 4)
thx

I had the same problem with mine initially. The handbook says that you merely have to pair the phone, which you have done. Not true - you have to physicaly make your Hermes the 'Active Phone'. First, select Phone. Then press Menu. Then scroll to Select Active Phone, let it find your Hermes, select it, and it should work.
The selection of Active Phone is covered later in the handbook. It should be at the start.
Good luck!
Syd,
you'll love this, but the dealer forgot to put the bluetooth manual in the glove box. (I'm waiting for it come come through...) In the mean time, any chance of giving me some instructions on how to setup an active phone?
Thx
caspartfg - Have you activated the Bluetooth SAP?
In Schaps latest rom's 3.60a and 4.00 Beta this is in Programs > System Tools > SAP Settings
yes, I have tried with the SAP setting turned on and off. The problem I have is that the car cannot see the phone, even though it is paired.
Also, the phone does not attempt to make use of the handsfree when I make a call.
Thank you all for your suggested
C.
Make sure you have ticked the option to make the phone discoverable (Start/Settings/Connections/Bluetooth - Mode tab; "Make this device visible to other devices")
Hissing Syd is spot on - you do have to select it after the pairing. When I do mine, I delete any existing pairings on both the car and the phone. Soft reset the phone, turn the car radio off and then on. Then (with the radio switched on) search for bluetooth devices on the phone, pair with the "Ford Audio" service. Turn the radio off and then on, press Phone, press Menu, scroll to Select Active phone and press the centre button on Phone1. It can take a few minutes to finally pair up, but it does get there in the end!
I've turned on SAP on the FunKey ROM but still don't get contacts etc. coming through on the car kit - but as I said I'm not that bothered to be honest!

Thank all, just to let you know the phone is working with the carkit.
I've been able to make / receive calls. I have also been able to browse the contact list on my phone via the info on my convers+ dash. Also when calls come in, they show the name of the caller.
I'll do some more testing when I get the manual through, but all of the functions the carkit provides seem to be supported. I've also been able to make voice dialiing features of the car..
I love the fact you can talk to the ford and instruct it around the phone, radio, climate control, etc....... feels like a middle age version of knight rider.....
Thx all

caspartfg,

Also - what Bluetooth manual ! The standard mondeo manual has some info but not much. Am I missing the bluetooth manual as well?
jftilbury,
Took quite a bit of fiddling around, but got there in the end....
Which head-unit do you have? - Mine is the Sony version that comes with the new s-max titanium.
To answer your specific questions:
1) yes, there was a separate bluetooth manual. I had to ring the dealer and he posted me a copy
2) The thing the car manual didn't tell me about was that there is a second step to the pairing of the phone in which you need to active the phone in the head unit.
i) make sure the phone is discoverable in bluetooth
ii) pair the phone with head unit as you described above.
iii) select the phone setting on the head unit
iv) press 'menu' (I think) and then in one of the options you can set the phone to active
after that, it all worked a treat for me..... Let me know if this works for you. If my instructions are dodgy, I'll double check
Spot on !
Excellent, that worked a treat. I also have the Sony CD unit, but in the Mondeo, and it is now phoning anyone that will pick up the phone.
The phone book is now going across OK. My problem is that as my company's entire phone book gets sync'ed onto the XDA I now have around 500 numbers on the car menu making it unusable. Never mind, the phone works which is the main thing.
Voice recognition next...
Thanks for your help, I'll point the other thread here as well.

I'm pleased that we helped solve your problem. My question to you, which ROM are you using? I still have problems with uploading the phone book to the Sony unit with my Schaps 3.60a ROM.
ROM version
I am using the standard ROM downloaded from the O2 support site at:
http://xda.o2.co.uk/xdaOrbitSoftware.html
This sends the download to the HTC site, with the file name:
RUU_Artemis_O2_UK_3.4.206.2_4.1.13.28_02.67.90_Ship.exe
The numbers I can find are:
CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3)
ROM version: 3.4.206.2 WWE
ROM date: 4/18/07
Radio version: 02.67.90
Protocol version: 4.1.13.28
ExtROM 3.4.206.101
Not sure if this helps as it is for the Artemis.

I am using Schaps 3.6a... The extra piece I did was to go into the advanced config, bluetooth tab and turn on OBEX. You should also make sure Remote SIM access is turned on in the SAP application.
Hope this helps, worked for me......

Mine in fact worked too well - sending across all 500 numbers my company sync's onto my handset, making the phonebook unusable on the car.
However a Ford forum put me onto this bit of code:
http://www.jetwaremobile.com/
which does exactly what I want allowing me to create a category of people I want to appear in the car phonebook and away we go.

Thanks very much for that crucial bit of info. Since I started this thread, I have changed ROM to RUU_Hermes_TMO_UK_3.60.110.4_6275_1.50.00.00_108_Ship.exe and, by enabling OBEX, it all works a treat.
