hi
i dont know if this the right place to ask, but where can i get MMS to send. I just received an MMS with dancing stewie from a friend and i was wondering if theres a site where i can get it sent to my phone?
thanks
Are you looking for sites with animations that you can use for MMSes or are you having trouble setting up your excalibur to send MMSes?
sites with animation
Hmm. Should be relatively easy to find, I guess.
For MMS you can send any of the following formats:
Pics: GIF, JPG, Animated GIF
Video: 3GP, RM (real media)
Audio: AMR, WAV, MID
Video size varies by phone manufacturer with 120x160 being fairly common.
And you can even have other video formats (like youtube videos) converted to 3gp to send, keeping in mind the limit of about 300kB.
you can just google gifs that should pull up some pages. i know ive done it before.
i think tagtag has some (google tagtag). theyve changed a lot so i dont know if they would have what your looking for. but its worth a shot

anyone know of anywhere to grab pre configured videos that will playback on the orbit? if its not allowed to be posted can anyone pm me ?
I have TCMP player installed on the phone which is brill, played back an mpg that I had on my comp in 352x240 and its was very smooth, not tried an avi's, tried a wmv but the res was 653x something or other ?!? this was very jerky on the phone
if there isnt anywhere to get files set up for playback on the orbit is there any good software to edit properties of the existing videos I have
I think, though I am often wrong, that if you download a copy of a movie you already own, even from some bittorrent site with something like bitcomet, that I would not be breaking the law.
thats right i think, only its hard to find stuff in 320x240 unless theres someway of changing avi's or finding media in PPC format
Any xvid a friend of mine has tried works in TCPMP even across his network. Usually at least VGA. But if you need card space.
ok well I had a go at encoding a normal film with pocketdivxencoder, it comes out smooth but a little pixelated. any optimum settings ?? it encodes at 320x132...why not 320x240?

Depends on where you live.
In the US, there is a fair use clause I think. In the UK there is no such thing as fair use - it is in fact illegal to rip mp3s from a CD that you own and put them on your own mp3 player (unless it's written into a license clause), although it's obviously not enforced. Part of the European Copyright Directive so probably applies to the rest of Europe too.
Having said that, I think there is some legislation that is currently in the process of going through that will allow you to make copies for your own use, as I everyone knows that the law is daft as it stands.
try pocketdivxencoder, i got me a copy of tenacious D in AVI format and converted it. Picture was DVD quality and filesize was only around 300-400mb
Yeah I only got pocketdivxencoder last night and had a go with the same file but using different setting, all play smooth but look pretty pixelated and a bit blurry if im being honest, I think it may be down to never using the program before
can you remember the parameters you used to encode the file? ie the audio/video quality slide bar resolution set to and advanced video options ?!? I just accepted the default settings that it gave when I selected the "PDA" from device list.
thanks
cant actually remember to be honest, think i just used default for a quick test when got it and the result was pretty good.
I made a 10min video yesterday about Santaclaus coming to our house..
When I ended the recording the phone started to save the video,, but all of a sudden battery ended. Now I can see with total commander that the video (about 32mb) is in my sd card, but it cant play it.. I trasfered it to my pc and none of my players were able to play it.. I've tried to convert it with mediacoder but no luck .
I pay 20€ to the person who can make this video work !!
plz help.
Why did you record something so important on your phone while it had low battery????
1. I didnt realize it was so low.
2. You are not helping a bit..
Post the file somewhere I can get to it and I will take a look.

For some reason, the page won't load for me, but I see it's an mp4. Did you try zamzar.com? It's a free (if below 100mb) online converter, and it will send the conversion to your e-mail (download link of the conversion expires in exactly 24hours). Try converting it from an mp4 to a wmv or whatever.
I tried zamzar but conversion failed. I think I need a real video editing wizz to make this work..
Hi,
Tried to get the file to play or convert, but no joy I'm afraid. I've tried:
Opening in MediaPlayer Classic - with the latest K-Lite Mega Codec Pack installed. They report a malformed MP4 file error (the headers seem to be MP4 but the body/rest of file isn't written 100%, so cannot be rendered).
So, I enabled the opening of raw files, which can usually render malformed files - still no luck.
Then I tried converting the file directly in MediaCoder (latest release that I ensure was updated today). It's recognised as an MP4 file, but the internal coding of video and audio (i.e. x.264 video with AAC audio for instance) is not recognised. Seems incomplete and malformed again.
Tried importing the clip into Adobe Premiere and Premiere's filters report a "Generic Import Error", so no luck there.
Finally I tried using "www.youconvertit.com" which reports the file as an unreadable MP4 file.
Having a look at the file in a hex editor, the headers seem "short" and not fully listed as a proper MP4 file. In conclusion without some very detailed messing about with files and a ton of luck , I don't think you're going to have any joy in getting this file to play at all I'm afraid.
Hope this helped a little, narrowed some of the options, anyway. Happy Xmas!
Adam.
Thank you Adam for your great efforts!!
So the video is a unusable. Shame, because this was the first Christmas with my kids that the santa visited us and everything went great. We'll just have to memorize the moment in our minds.
Merry christmas and happy new year to you and your family Adam, thx for caring
Hi all,
just wondering what people are using to convert .avi/.mkv/etc to mp4/wmv/etc so Zune/Wp7 can use them?
ATM i'm using anyvideoconverter and converting the video's to "Zune HD" but it seems to leave a black border of about 5mm around every edge of the video which is really annoying me, so anyone got any other good ones?
Only confirmed ones please, i've used dozens of Conversion apps that say they'd do the job but in reality they don't, so only post if you've used one for WP7/Zune.
Just convert your Video to MP4 or WMV with WVGA resolution.

Do you know of a good one which will let me just convert to mp4 WVGA Paul?
*EDIT* Just found This Thread which Recommends a GUI for MENCoder called "SUPER". My dealings with MENCoder have been great in the past so i'll give it a go and let others know what it's like.
FWIW the Microsoft way is to use Expression encoder for WMV. It's free, it's nice, and it does a good job encoding, so if you want WMV you should use that one.

My Zune does not even want to read WMV files so I can not upload. I have multiple copies of DVD's/Blu-Ray's with digital copie of movie for portable devices.
I can copy those movies to my PC and watch them, I can watch them on HD2 but zune doesn ot see them so I can not copy them on to phone. They are all in WMV or MP4 format.
MP4 don't work in Zune!
I tested with this videos: http://cid-e9230930f20e0820.office.live.com/browse.aspx/Windows Phone 7 Ads
deleted, please ignore this message
Same problem, I have digital copy's of blu-ray's that came with them, they play using WMV but the Zune Software won't see them and won't play them.
Download 'Expression Encoder'. There's an option to encode specifically for Zune.

Funny as phone by default records in mp4
Mabe the audio stream?
I was just playing around with this last night, and the biggest issue was the audio stream. While it plays h264 streams up to the High Profile level 3.0, it did not like an AC3 stream. I had to demux a video that I had in an mkv container, convert the audio to AAC and remux into an mp4 container. Microsoft has a whole detailed table of stream type compatibility with bit rates, profiles, etc. I can't seem to post links, so search for it at the msdn dot microsoft dot com under this title "Supported Media Codecs for Windows Phone". The list on the WP7 consumer site sucks btw.
The AAC has two compatible types, AAC-LC and HE-AACv1 or v2.
I used MeGui to redo the audio, and yamb to mux it.
Thanks dgetz, here is the link to msdn.

for the time being i have been using "HTC Touch HD Video Converter"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
Seems to work very well
anyone try clonedvd mobile. I have used this in the past with the sony psp settings and gotten very good results, just a very small black strip (maybe 1-2mm) across the top and bottom of the screen (on my hd2).

I can confirm that MP4 works on the Focus, using TV shows previously converted for my iPhone 4
I use handbrake on Windows and Mac to convert my videos, using the settings from
http://lifehacker.com/5572037/handbrake-presets-for-your-new-ipad-or-iphone-4
The results have been good, but using the frame(middle) setting shown in that article does bump up the file size a good amount, and as I'm sure a lot of you have heard, storage space isn't so easy to come by on WP7 yet...
Handbrake
I too can vouch for handbrake. All of the videos I have made for my ipod touch with it work just fine on the Focus. Unfortunately, the library I have for the touch is lower resolution, with videos at about 1/2 DVD resolution and at 500kbps encode rate. I end up with about 500 MB for the about 90 min. It is nice because they don't take up a lot of room, but still look decent. When output to a standard definition TV they look fine as well.
When I first put a few of these home videos on the Focus the lower quality was immediately noticeable. To see how I could push the phone, in my reply above I took a full DVD resolution video 720x400 (16x9 non-anamorphic) and corrected the audio stream. That video looks gorgeous on the Focus screen and is great for showing off the phone. It also takes up over 2.5 GB!!!! It is encoded at a rate of about 2100 kbps. As with any video encoding for a mobile device you have to make your own decision about resolution, encoding rate, etc in that constant game of quality versus size.
One thing to note. If there are black bars on your video, then either you have a video that was not encoded in a proportion that matches your screen or it was hard coded with the black bars. The second thing should be rare nowadays (eliminating this wasted information space was the point of an anamorphic DVD). The first is actually very common. IF your media is a studio movie, almost every action film these days comes at 2.35:1 instead of 16:9=1.77:1. Personally I like viewing any of my content in the way it was originally intended to be viewed and don't ever re-proportion anything. At the moment I am not sure if the Focus/WP7 'stretches' videos. I know on my ipod touch this was an option you could toggle by double tapping the video during playback...
Maybe I will play around with a few options tonight and report back.
have a zunehd and remember seeing this thread on abi
anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58183
it converts the audio of any avi/mkv and keeps the video the same, so converting only takes a few mins, and zune software recognizes it..for the zunehd anyways, maybe someone can try w/ wp7
Since I couldn't find right settings for MediaCoder (best video converter ever).
I was using Prism Video Converter for my Omnia7.
About settings for prism:
For .wmv use as video compresor WMV9 and for sound WMAV9, i am not changing the resolution as it is not bothering me at all. All files (mostly avi or mkv) played smooth after conversion.
If anybody have good settings for MediaCoder I will be much appreciated for sharing.
Thx
Okay, so MP4forHD works. The quality still isn't stunning, but it'll do for now (i guess.) However, i've encountered an issue with contrast. All my blacks appear as dark grays, which drives me nuts
I cannot seem to be able to send a video using handcent to save my life...always says too large. I changed to 480p and messed with the settings once the cam is on...I cannot send...can you tell what ia m doing wrong??
It may be difficult to send video with our evos to most phones since the file sizes are fairly large. If I'm not mistaken the length cap is 10-15 seconds. If you're trying to upload large files why don't you create a YouTube account on your phone, upload the file, then share the link to the user.
~ d3rk
YouTube is a great alternative, if all videos sent and received are YouTube friendly. That sucks, btw, if we can't send to other phones.
I made about 20 gifs yesterday from videos. Got done and went to text one to my fiance it and it failed. Reason....it was 9mb. I thought the idea behind this was to be able to text them? What goes is a gif other than for texting or forums?
Can they be sized differently?
Why not use a professional video to GIF converter? VideoSolo Free Video to GIF Converter is a good choice.
I make gifs all the time, And send them without any trouble, maybe you carrier has something to do with it
