I made a 10min video yesterday about Santaclaus coming to our house..
When I ended the recording the phone started to save the video,, but all of a sudden battery ended. Now I can see with total commander that the video (about 32mb) is in my sd card, but it cant play it.. I trasfered it to my pc and none of my players were able to play it.. I've tried to convert it with mediacoder but no luck .
I pay 20€ to the person who can make this video work !!
plz help.
Why did you record something so important on your phone while it had low battery????
1. I didnt realize it was so low.
2. You are not helping a bit..
Post the file somewhere I can get to it and I will take a look.

For some reason, the page won't load for me, but I see it's an mp4. Did you try zamzar.com? It's a free (if below 100mb) online converter, and it will send the conversion to your e-mail (download link of the conversion expires in exactly 24hours). Try converting it from an mp4 to a wmv or whatever.
I tried zamzar but conversion failed. I think I need a real video editing wizz to make this work..
Hi,
Tried to get the file to play or convert, but no joy I'm afraid. I've tried:
Opening in MediaPlayer Classic - with the latest K-Lite Mega Codec Pack installed. They report a malformed MP4 file error (the headers seem to be MP4 but the body/rest of file isn't written 100%, so cannot be rendered).
So, I enabled the opening of raw files, which can usually render malformed files - still no luck.
Then I tried converting the file directly in MediaCoder (latest release that I ensure was updated today). It's recognised as an MP4 file, but the internal coding of video and audio (i.e. x.264 video with AAC audio for instance) is not recognised. Seems incomplete and malformed again.
Tried importing the clip into Adobe Premiere and Premiere's filters report a "Generic Import Error", so no luck there.
Finally I tried using "www.youconvertit.com" which reports the file as an unreadable MP4 file.
Having a look at the file in a hex editor, the headers seem "short" and not fully listed as a proper MP4 file. In conclusion without some very detailed messing about with files and a ton of luck , I don't think you're going to have any joy in getting this file to play at all I'm afraid.
Hope this helped a little, narrowed some of the options, anyway. Happy Xmas!
Adam.
Thank you Adam for your great efforts!!
So the video is a unusable. Shame, because this was the first Christmas with my kids that the santa visited us and everything went great. We'll just have to memorize the moment in our minds.
Merry christmas and happy new year to you and your family Adam, thx for caring

Hia,
Yet another newbie question from me
What is the best video player to use on the XDA IIs. Ive tried using various different ones and when i try to watch avi's the movie/cartoon comes up all pixelated then just stops with a audio error message.
Your help will be much appreciated.
Cheers
Brian
betaplayer / Pocket Divx ?

have you tried converting the avi files to wmplayer files, using either the fantastic winAVI converter or even, dare I say this, windows movie maker, that evn allows you to specify the output rate for file size etc, works a treat for XDA. sorry for double message, wasnt logged in!
anyone know of anywhere to grab pre configured videos that will playback on the orbit? if its not allowed to be posted can anyone pm me ?
I have TCMP player installed on the phone which is brill, played back an mpg that I had on my comp in 352x240 and its was very smooth, not tried an avi's, tried a wmv but the res was 653x something or other ?!? this was very jerky on the phone
if there isnt anywhere to get files set up for playback on the orbit is there any good software to edit properties of the existing videos I have
I think, though I am often wrong, that if you download a copy of a movie you already own, even from some bittorrent site with something like bitcomet, that I would not be breaking the law.
thats right i think, only its hard to find stuff in 320x240 unless theres someway of changing avi's or finding media in PPC format
Any xvid a friend of mine has tried works in TCPMP even across his network. Usually at least VGA. But if you need card space.
ok well I had a go at encoding a normal film with pocketdivxencoder, it comes out smooth but a little pixelated. any optimum settings ?? it encodes at 320x132...why not 320x240?

Depends on where you live.
In the US, there is a fair use clause I think. In the UK there is no such thing as fair use - it is in fact illegal to rip mp3s from a CD that you own and put them on your own mp3 player (unless it's written into a license clause), although it's obviously not enforced. Part of the European Copyright Directive so probably applies to the rest of Europe too.
Having said that, I think there is some legislation that is currently in the process of going through that will allow you to make copies for your own use, as I everyone knows that the law is daft as it stands.
try pocketdivxencoder, i got me a copy of tenacious D in AVI format and converted it. Picture was DVD quality and filesize was only around 300-400mb
Yeah I only got pocketdivxencoder last night and had a go with the same file but using different setting, all play smooth but look pretty pixelated and a bit blurry if im being honest, I think it may be down to never using the program before
can you remember the parameters you used to encode the file? ie the audio/video quality slide bar resolution set to and advanced video options ?!? I just accepted the default settings that it gave when I selected the "PDA" from device list.
thanks
cant actually remember to be honest, think i just used default for a quick test when got it and the result was pretty good.
Hi All,
I have TCPMP V0.72 (And 0.71) and sucessfully streamed MPG video and MP3 audio from my NAS box. However any AVI (No matter what codec has compressed it) just will not play..... it seems to load the ile correctly and everything looks ready to go but when you press play it just freezes...
I have tried this on WM5 Ultimate and WM6 Beautiful (Thanks KDS ) and they both seem to show this feature.
Any ideas?
Now, thats odd. I just watched an avi file compressed with divx codec(with mp3 audio stream) with TCPMP provided in V.72.
What codec are you using?
Hi KDS,
The files are compressed with random codecs the main ones i am trying are based on Core ASP (The compression was done on my linux box). The phone has all the codecs i could find installed
AAC
FFMPEG
FLAC
AC3 (audio only i think)
speex (no idea)
Vorbis (i assume for ogg audio)
I just tried an AVI with no compression and it worked (except for stuttering caused by the data rate)
I am new to the universal ROM cooking world. I think it used to work although very choppy when i tried a while ago..... (EDIT probably over a year On the standard Vodafone UK install and a previos version of TCPMP (no idea what versions though)
Gotcha!
I'd not installed any of those plugins to avoid extra space inside the ROM.
Just put the given below files inside the windows folder and try watching your videos/movies again.
Do tell me if they worked for you
Hi KDS,
Just tried a hard reset then installed TCPMP 0.72RC1 then copied the suggested files to the folder.
Then i used netuse to lock onto the local file and then opened a file in TCPMP.
Once again everything looks ok until i press play and nothing happens. It then freezes me out if i try and open another file.... These files open and play normally if they are on the SD card.
TO recap everything is fine until i try to load a compressed AVI (I managed to see an uncompressed one) Are these read or transmitted in a different way?
There are so many different things i could change but i would be stabbing in the dark not knowing what the issues are, should i look at something other than the universal to make this work (lan storage unit firmware etc,)
Any guidance would be appreciated as this is the final hurdle to getting the universal to be the centre point for my home entertainment system
You tried the files in abovementioned post?
Hi KDS,
Yes i did try but got nothing.
It looks like;
It is not TCPMP streaming over the network as this works (with uncompressed files)
It is not Compressed files as they play from the SD card properly.
It is not the version of WM5 vs WM6 or any OS related feature as in all the different roms i have tried it fails and works in the same way.
My final attempt tonight is to stream from a completely differnt source (a PC based SAMBA share) hopefully this will work and will be at least able to watch recorded TV and the most recently converted video.
Seems i have a strange one here....thanks for the help though
KDS would you think there would be any merit in changing the firmware on the wireless router?
I just proved everything works with a PC based SAMBA share. (through the wireless router)
So it leaves only the NAS box left to blame....i really wanted to have my media stored in this fashion as it means i do not need to have a PC on all the time.
Anyway thanks for a very good site, forum and members... and now i have my Univeral and Palm treo v750 on WM^ i am sure i will stick around. and get well and truely besotted with all things HTC.....
Til next time
@KDS Thanks for trying it is nice to have sucjh direct contact to a person in the know.
Glad that the things worked for you!

just wonder how to stream using TCPMP?
btw, is there any way to browse the list of video files.
I've recently tried uploading media files to my phone but they won't play. The first film I uploaded was an AVI file. This didn't play because I don't have a divx player on the phone. Does anyone know where I can download a player for my phone?
Second film I tried to upload was a dvdrip in Mpeg~1 format. This didn't play in the media player either.
Could anyone tell me the best way to get some films onto my phone?
To transfer the files I have just been dragging and dropping them into the storage card.
First of, I would recommend Coreplayer to play divx movies and what not. It's smart to get the blackstone video converter which was in the rom section I thought, use the search function
Sorry for spellingerrors, typing this in the bus on myblackstone which is a tad bumpy! Cheers.
There is a video converter in this forum which converts many types into ones which the video player from HTC (from the album) can play.
If you dont want to have to convert the films I would also reccomend using coreplayer. Its not free but it is worth paying for.
If you want a cheaper option you can download divx mobile player for free. It wont play the files as smoothly as coreplayer though.
Thanks for the advice. £20.00 is pretty steep. I don't think I would pay it. Are there any free versions of this software?
I remember converting media files for my Ipod once and gave up after 30 mins of converting a heroes episode hadnt finished the conversion. I'll give it another go on here though.
I'll try downloading the divx mobile.
Hey i'm absolutly new on this forum, just got my htc touch hd and i really like it. yes i was really frustated that it didn't play avi or mpg files, therefore i started downloading mp4 files when i came across this wonerful site, these files will play on your htc touch hd, the site is
http://www.vietfiles.org/phim-ma-downloads/40603-mu-high-quality-psp-movies-tv-shows-mp4-format.html
althought it's on megaupload which is annoying downloading one by one

It's up to you to decide whether £20 are too much. Anyway it does the job and does it quite nicely.
If not, you can try TCPMP - it's free, just google it up. I haven't tried it, though.
Do you need a membership to download films at vietfiles? i clicked on the film links and then there is no download icon on the next screen.
I've downloaded divx mobile. Extracted the files using WinRar and then dragged the two files, setupPocketPC and Divx Player onto my phone.
Neither of the two files will open on my phone. The setup one says its not a valid pocket pc application. The divx one says there is no application associated with the divx player it tells me to run the first file first then this one within it.
I then tried opening the file on my PC but it asked for Microsoft Active sync, however I can't upload active sync onto my computer because I'm running the dreaded Vista.
Help guys, anyone else faced this problem?

Vista is not to blame here. Active Sync is now called 'Windows Mobile Device Center'. Download it from Microsoft, install it in Vista, establish a partnership with the device, sync your device.
Then you can run the Divxsetup in Vista, it will call ActiveSync/MBDC and install the CAB file on your device.
I use the built-in HTC album player though. MPEG4-ASP compressed video in an MP4 container is the format that works best. Use the video converter frontend mentioned above.
Cheers

nah when you click on the link it gives you, that should open a new window then in that window it goes to vietfiles then 3 secs later it should automatically redirect you to the megaupload site and download from there
if that doesnt work
try highlighting the link then pasting in your browser
For anyone using the file service Put.io, this app lets you stream and locally store MP4 converted videos.
This was my 1st WP7 app, learning the ropes etc - however I will not work on it in its current state (a redesign is required)
However, until the day I get my act together feel free to try this version for free and watch those videos easily
More dev updates will be found at X-Volt.com
P.s this can only run videos on a device that is not connected to the computer!
thx workshop2
I forgot to say, tap and hold items for the context menu (the only working options are stream/open video and download a video - if the file is local then it can also be deleted)
A few bugs?
Great app if I could get it to work. When I sign in an error pops up saying:
Error converting value "2558511245" to type 'System.Int32'.
I press ok and it continues to connect. I go to my files folder but I havent been able to get it to download. I get another error saying theres a problem with mediaplayer....Then it signs back in with your user key and api secret. So I start all over and try to stream the movie. That worked.....almost :/ I had picture, but no audio. I checked the movie from my laptop and the movie does have sound. It just doesnt have sound while streaming to my WP7 HTC. Another thing is there anyway that our user key and api secret can be saved so we dont have to sign in every time we open the program or it crashes? That's also happened a few times. It crashes and I get a black error screen with a lot of writing.
So I have been driving myself crazy trying to get it to work. Do you think you could fix these issues in your next update?
Thanks so much!
Oops, I forgot I had my API key being saved (bit of a security issue there...)
To stream video you can't have the phone connected to the comp, but it runs fine on my phone (Omnia 7) however sometimes put.io conversions arn't always perfect.
If you can give me some more of the error message (converting number to int) so I can fix that for you, but as I said im not planning on doing much with this application as im going to rebuild it once im less busy. You can only download/steam films that have been converted, and to download you hold down on the item to bring up the context menu, then click download.
You can find the settings saving error fixed in the latest attachment at the top of the screen.
Thanks

Thank you for fixing the save settings. I've been filling my put.io account up with converted .mp4 movies. I bought a subscription to put.io so that I can use the app you developed. However when I open the app on my phone, the movie list shows up, but I'm not ablt to do anything with them. They wont open at all for streaming or downloading and I don't have my phone plugged into the computer when using the app. I cant hardly wait until you have the time to rebuild this app. When all the bugs ahve been worked out I think this app will be amazing. Until then I wait in frustration.........
Well I will say it could be months until I am able to do anything as this was just a research application into WP7 development (I learned many lessons )
For the moment, if you could give me more details about the movies not working - does an error appear? What does it say? Have you double checked Put.io to see if the videos are converted? All this information can help me see if I can fix anything...
I know the Mango update brings more video streaming capabilites in the near future, maybe that will help.
P.s I hope you lying about buying a sub to use this app

No, Im not kidding. I paid for a sub to put.io I've been adding .mp4 files to put.io from mobilism.org. The files are in .mp4 format. If I add them from my computer through Zune, they work on my phone, just not through the put.io app. At this time I am not getting any errors popping up because Im not able to do anything at all as I mentioned before.
Out of curiosity, I added an .avi movie to put.io and then from the site, converted it to .mp4. I wasnt able to view it from the app so I reinstalled your previous app and signed in. The .avi movie file showed in my list and I was able to stream it. However it buffered a LOT. I tried to download the file and eventually the app crashed. So I added the latest updated app back to my phone. Which puts me where I am now, still not able to download or stream my .mp4 files. Am I doing something wrong??
No, it sounds like the application isn't working. Dont hold your breath for a quick fix as im extremely busy at the moment. Thanks for the interest though, makes me want to do it even more (btw, what device are you using?)

I have the HTC Surround. Ok, I'll just just check back now and then as I am very interested in using your app
After a lot of trial and error, I figured out how to get the movies to stream to my phone. I have to upload torrent .avi files to put.io and then convert them to .mp4 from the site. Uploaded .mp4 files wont work for some reason. However, I also found an app ~ yomomedia. With yomomedia I can rss my put.io files and stream them to my phone. The stream player lets me rewind or fast forward through the movie and also saves my place if I need to leave the screen. With the put.io wm7 stream player, I can only pause the movie. If I leave the screen I loose the movie all together.
Just thought I'd let you know
