Accidentaly put rhodium in washer, can it be saved?

I accidentaly put my rhodium in the washing machine (forgot to check my jeans pockets) and it was in there for a few minutes.
When I noticed I took out the battery, SD card and sim card and dryed everything with a towel. I then put it in a bowl of rice for day (read that tip online somewhere) to drain out any excess moisture.
It seems to be completely dry now from the outside, although I can't say for sure about the insides. It still won't turn on.
Any ideas? or is my brand new Rhodium dead?

Sounds to me like you need to make use of that insurance policy that you sensibly bought for your TP2.

I read somewhere on xda forum that sometimes wet devices would turn on after a couple of days...
If you're not in a hurry, maybe wait some time... but don't hope too much

Wow! got to be more careful next time. This is a very expensive phone. Got to take real good care of it.... "Handle with care"
I guess wait at least 72 hours before turning it on back again and not before that.... else will be RIP.
btw, if your phone is "ON" while in the washer...forget about, get a new one.

One thing to try, sometimes batteries will self destruct and save the phone. Get a replacement and see if it powers up, I know that worked with one I took into the pool a couple years ago.

A hiardryer on very low heat setting normally works quite well for removing moisture

I'd try someone elses battery, but wouldn't expect miracles to happen...

White rice trick
Here is a trick, take out the battery and put the phone in a bag of white rice. Make sure it's completely covered with rice!. Leave it there for at least 72 hours.
This trick worked on my wife's iPhone. It was revived after being completely dead for 3 days.

one of my phone fell in the toilet once, i removed the battery and took it apart and the washed it with alcohol [not the drinking type] after a day drying it worked just fine.

some phones will work without the battery if connected to the charger. You could try that to see if it's the battery. If you're willing to take it apart there's a spray technicians use to remove all moisture. I've been told never to apply hear (so if you use a hairdryer use one with a cold setting), and yeah, just wait, make sure it's gotten rid of ALL the moisture, and hope for the best. If all the moisture isn't gone, you could short circuit it by trying to turn it on.

My charmer fell into the toilet one evening when I was very drunk. It went of immediately but being too drunk I took it home and left it as it was. The next morning I gave it the hairdryer treatment but it still didnt power up. I threw the phone under my bed and left it for dead. About 4 nights later I woke up at night and I saw 'the light' from under my bed, on closer look my charmer was miraculously switched on. I tried to charge it but it just showed a red light. Later that day I tried again and it started to charge.
The phone went on to serve me without any problems for about 6 more months and I eventually sold it for £80.
Moral of the story; You could get lucky (fingers crossed)

The water itself does not cause the short circuiting. You need purified water to cleans it from the salt and other particles that cause the short circuit.

But considering that almost no one has truly pure water running through their washer etc, I just simplified. But the reason why you shouldn't apply heat is due to the catalyst factor of heat. Water and metal don't mix (rust, oxidization), and applying heat can accelerate that process. The end of the story is to get it truly dry, don't apply heat, and keep your fingers, toes, and eyes crossed.

This is true. While it is possible to safe an electronic device after a soaking for a while, once it has been doused in water, unfortunately, its lifespan is already shortened. If you get it working again, it might last a few months, or even a year. But eventually, corrosion WILL claim it. It might be possible to open it up, and clean every contact, every piece of solder, copper or electronic pathway. If you do that, then maybe you can keep it from corroding.
My roommate lost his phone during winter. Come to find out, he had dropped it in the snow When it melted he found it. It was dead for a few days till it dried out. Then it worked again for about 5-6 months then finally died completely due to corrosion.

Saved about 10 different phones, some multiply times and many other electronic devices, from pools, ocean, garden hoses, sprinklers.
Most important thing is to remove the battery, IMMEDIATELY. We are talking seconds the better, don't think, rip it out. The battery will power up the short circuits and cause the damage. Leaving the battery in for only a minute may be enough time to fcuk something.
Ok preparing
Disassemble the phone as much as possible, the more the quicker it will dry. If the water was salty or dirty , wash them under the tap trying to get into everything.( I am serious)
To dry(cook
Test you oven temp is accurate from 40c to 50c with temperature probe. Set temperature to 40c to be safe, 50c if your in a hurry, 45c would be safe, but it's an oven it may randomly jump up 10c??? hence 40 is safe. Around 50-60 some plastics start to deform, ( this I have learnt first hand).
OK spread the parts out on clean metal is best or ceramic plate/s and place the plates in the oven.
Drying time. Depends on the parts and how big they are and if water could be trapped in them.
Bare, open parts, no touching surfaces, keyboards can be pricks. 2-4hours at 50-40c.
Touching parts but nothing complex, i.e. no water stuck between the keyboard parts. 6-9 hours.
Whole phone 1-2 days.

Thanks for all the tips guys. It's still drying out now in a big bowl of rice. I'm going to try to turn it on again tomorrow. A friend of mine has one too, so if it fails to work I'm going to try his battery to see if that's the problem.

There is water behind the screen though (or between the casing and the screen). Do you think that'll just dry out over time, or do I need to take it apart to wipe it off?

"Moister Damage" On The Tilt 2??

So, today I was getting in the car right. My phone was battery back-less because I broke the old one and was waiting for a new. I live in south florida, and it's spring-time. The morning was a bit humid but I thought nothing of it. I turn my phone on and try to listen to some music right, but it wont let me open WM player. So I go and open something else and try to exit out. The X button won't work but the touchscreen does... weird. I then try to restart the phone. I keep holding the power button but no luck! So I'm worried and go to pull the battery out but to my surprise see a little condensation on the back of the phone. I pull the battery out and when it goes off I see CONDENSATION ON A RIGHT STRIP ON THE SCREEN. I go to turn it back on and try to do the same stuff. No buttons work, the X button and lock softkeys do not work, no hardware buttons do what their supposed to but they light up, turn the backlight on and everything!!!! I can't even do input with the touchscreen keyboard even though the screen works. Some programs I can and can't open. The phone was on for a MAXIMUM of 5-7 minutes, if that! I'm very surprised because It worked last night what leaves me to believe "Moister damage". Am I correct or is it a software problem. I cant hard reset because no way to type input. Haven't tried the sequence or mymobiler yet.... can someone tell me if the culprate to the death of my phone is moisture damage? I'm really angry now......

seems like sort of thing that could happen if moisture entered into your phone as that could cause electric shocks and considering the inner hardware and electrical components are very delicate even the slightest exposure to water vapors or moisture is a enough to damage them especially considering your scenario where you had no battery (and i am assuming you didn't have back cover either or you did?) but regardless as far as my understanding is this behavior seems in line with what you are thinking.

So no way to fix it.... I'm now phoneless. I'm so mad at myself right now....

I live in SWFL and unless you dropped the thing in a puddle I cant imagine the humidty down here doing that to your phone. Did you drop the thing in a puddle? The back cover is by no means air tight so I dont think NOT having a back cover did that too your phone.
Turn the phone on and plug it into your charger and see how long it stays on. There's a trick discussed here that talks about wrapping the phone up in paper towels and then putting it in a bowl of rice for 24 hours. That should suck any moisture you have in your phone out. Just do a search in the forum for "rice" or something.. I dont know.

I thought the SAME THING. That's why I thought nothing of it! I just did a hard reset on it the night before so no apps installed. I did go on Android but, I do that about 1-2 times a week. Only reason I think it's moisture is because of the "white smoke" I saw thinking it was condensation. It wasn't really taken care of for a few hours because I was in disney. When I got to the hotel I put it in paper towels. The touchscreen works, and I can open apps on the menu but not use them. Wont let input through. No hardkeys work either. I'm gonna try a hard reset.

I WAS WRONG! I just did a hard reset, and it fixed the problem! Had to do it the button sequence way but it worked! The last thing I did on it, the night before was go on Android. Everything functioned well their and had no problems. What I'm guessing is I got a bad boot or something that stopped some drivers from working. I figured this out by trying to download mymobiler on the phone so I could do a hard reset and it wouldn't let me open it because it wasn't signed with a trusted certificate. Whew.... this is A HUGE RELIEF.

ight just wanna ask everyone since the topic is mainly on "Moisture damage" i have a habit of using my phone as a shower radio...no i dont put it in the shower, i leave it on the sink farthest away from the shower stall, my question is....will this do any damage to my phone because of the moisture and heat!? because this is the 2nd time ive done it and i dont wanna continue until i get a word of approval from you guys

I wouldnt think it would damnage the phone. Unless you actually submerge the unit or dump water on it it should be able to withstand the humidity. It's not like its in the moisture for hours and hours just a few minutes while you shower. Keep your fan running while you shower and that should help even more; although the fan should be on while you shower anyway AND for at least 5 minutes after you shower (little known fact) to protect the drywall and structure of the bathroom.

Where I live some times in summer we have 98% of ambient humidity!
So it´s almost impossible to have anything dry here

Just let it do some thorough drying out. I had an old Kaiser i dropped completely in the toilet at work..lmfao You know i was pissed but..after some thorough drying and TLC, it just started wrking again like nothing ever happened. I let my father have the Tilt cuz i had already had a replacement one sent to me. Just told them i lost it. cuz u say water, they like warranty voided..lol Still wrks to this day, its his new toy till he get that new EVO 4g for sprint. he got the tilt to work with a prepaid sim card. im like dayumm..he showing something new..lol

Bottom half of my phone was submerged in a drink of water for about 6 seconds. I instantly opened the back, removed battery, and dried off everything from the outside. I popped the battery back in and turned device on. Menu and back don't work, haven't tried plugging it in via USB or made a phone call. You think once water comes out the menu and back will work?

You did everything right until you put the battery back in. You should have put in in a bag of rice or ran a blow dyer on low heat. But I've seen plenty of phones come back from water damage. Good luck

I used hair dryer on it for 2 hours and it works flawlessly now.

Hair dryer can spread moisture thru the rest of the device and kill it later. Its really simple and safe just to remove the 5 or 6 screws from the back and take off the black olastic. Hit it again with ur blowdryer just to be safe. U will find there is still quite a bit of moisture under it if you do

Don't use the phone for a day or two and toss it in a container of rice. Put it on top of the fridge for a slight bit of warmth and leave it for a day or two. It will pull all of the remaining moisture out of it.

uh next time you should wait a couple days before attempting to turn it on..
there is always a good chance it will work but chances are something will get fried if you are impatient and try to power it on.. water and electricity aren't a good combo if you haven't already noticed so don't turn it ON. no matter how fast you remove it, water still got inside..

Several years ago I dropped my phone into a bucket of water I was about to mix grout in. I did the same thing you did, and the phone miraculously worked. Over the next week though, individual components malfunctioned one-by-one. I eventually had to buy a new phone. Then 2 years ago I got in a hot tub with my blackberry in my pocket. I didn't realize it until my wife sat next to me and I felt it there. I immediately took the battery out, went inside, took it apart as much as I was able to, placed all 3 major parts in a bucket full of rice, & went tech-free for 48 hours. My abstinence from my phone was somewhat brutal, but it worked flawlessly after that until 7 weeks ago - when I elected to upgrade to Android & bought my SGS3.
I'm not saying you'll have the same experience I did with that 1st phone, but I am saying that time, patience, & rice can work miracles when our expensive high-tech devices meet their ultimate kryptonite. It's like Superman orbiting the sun, good as new!

I've had two phones get submerged, and I can say, step one is always pull battery. Step two should always be leaving it submerged in rice for a minimum of 24 hours. Mine have always come back from the dead and worked.

My phone is working but battery is lasting 1/3rd of it's original life.
Not sure if the water did something to it?

It's saying battery fully charged though. Idk what the problem is. I'm getting a replacement battery now.

Actually I'm noticing that my weather isn't working like it should. Maybe that's why battery is draining?

I've had some weird issues like that before. Sometimes, the battery wasn't making a good connection to the phone. Try taking the battery out, using an eraser (on a pencil) and cleaning the contacts on the battery and the phone. Also, I've put a little piece of paper folded up on one side of the battery to force the battery to touch the connectors. I'd get a new battery anyway though, just to be safe. They are cheap.

This happened to me after I updated to LG8 and never started working again. I ended up flashing CM10 because it was broken, clock FC'd every time along with other issues. I don't think this is related to your phone taking a bath.

Dropped phone into water..

I've dropped my phone to water and it was working for some moment's and it got shut down.I dried it and i tried to press power but it didn't react at all and it's not turning on now.Do we have something on our phone that can prove that it was exposed to water ? Or is there something i could do to fix the prob ? Also only half of the phone got into water.And it vibrated once after like half an hour by itself,and i heard some weird sound from phone for some time.

My friend with a S4 had same problem.
How he fixed it was that he shut his phone off and left it in a bowl of uncooked rice (or use any dehydrator) for 2 or 3 days.
This is just advice and I've never experienced such issue.

Well, uncooked rice is good, its an easy alternative. Whats even better is silica gel. Its not easily available unless you're working in chemistry lab or have friends that do. For silica gel, you can heat up the silica gel first, let it cool and put your phone inside the silica gel and let it be for 2 hours, even better if you remove the simcard and memory card tray so that the moisture can secape from inside the phone. You can try opening the back cover, only if you know how. Actually you need to open (I cant explain it here) the bottom rounded cover, then slide down the back cover then gently pull it out. For silica gel, a few hours should be enough. Longer is better. For uncooked rice, I would suggest a few days.Longer would be better.
Its really best to remove the battery of a phone, but in our phone case, its a bit difficult unless you know how to. At least you can put some insulator between the power contact between the battery and the phone.

I've read somewhere that if it work's it can die any time because of water that was inside,like ppl had their phone working for 2 - 3 months and suddenly they stop.Do you know any way that I can prevent this from happening ?

I think you should use the rice method to remove all traces of water left in your phone.

As we have said, leave your phone inside a bowl/box of uncooked rice, its a good humidity absorber. That will absorb almost all the humidity inside your phone. Don;t turn it on until then. You don't want anything to short circuit inside your phone. Silica gel is whole lot better than uncooked rice, but it can be hard to find.

Hardware button's doesn't work too so i can't wake it or turn it off..It was in rice for good 8 hour's and today I will return it to service.I think digitizer,microphone and hardware button's are the only thing's that doesn't work atm.

I was just listening to music when it fell in the tub filled with water(obviously). My initial reaction being the idiot and panicky me is to try if my phone is still on, and it was. then the battery drained so quickly and then i clicked the shut off button and it went off. I tried the rice method overnight. Nothing happened. Does my phone still have hope or should I let go? please help

First off, I'd like to apologize for my first post to the forums being a stupid situation such as this one, but you know, it's noob friendly :laugh: Secondly, I'm in a pretty bad spot right now. Of course me being the idiot I am took my phone to the bathroom with me, I went to grab my shorts and little did I know, I left my phone sitting on them. When I pulled the shorts out the phone fell straight into the toilet (guess you could say my situation is pretty "crappy"). It was in the water for no longer than 10 seconds and I removed the battery and SIM card from the phone in no longer than a minute. The phone was not completely submerged, but it did fall top first. After my phone had been in the rice for an hour, my curiosity got the best of me. I wanted to see what would happen if I put the battery back in my device. When I tried to, I head a sizzling noise. Does this mean my phone or battery is "fried?" The red LED was still on the front of my phone so I'm led to believe that the phone is still working, but I'm not sure. Any tips will help. Thanks in advance!

You probably blew it up by putting the battery in.
You may get lucky if you dismantle the entire phone and let it sit in front of a small fan OVERNIGHT to dry properly.
Reassemble in the morning, good luck.

I was fearing that PanchoPlanet, I did what you said and just left it in the rice over night. This morning I went to put the battery back in and I no longer heard the sizzling noise, but the device would not power on. The LED on the front would alternate between purple, red, and blue. Not sure if this means anything.

Rice is not the best medium for total dehumidification, having all components out in stream of air is the only way to get rid of moisture.
This is coming from experience, salvaged my wife's phone and my nephews phone this way (Samsung S2 and S4). I may be worth giving it another try. Also make sure battery has a full charge, check it with a test meter.

The battery in the phones today are internally fused, so if there is a heavy current demand above the fusing level, the fuse will open and the battery is then worthless. You might have had that happen and if you can, try having a friend or your carrier's store put the battery in a known working device and see if it powers that device up. You might have to get a new battery if it won't, however it does not mean that it was the only failure..... I'd dry the heck out of the phone and only then insert it into the phone. I used to dry devices that water entered like phones, watches, etc by leaving the device over a small wattage lamp, or have the device lifted a little above the bulb so that it won't melt anything and did that for a couple of days before trying to check if the device still worked. Hey PanchoPlanet, bobolinko., thanks for the recommendations, I left the phone in rice and this morning I plugged it in to give it a last ditch effort, it powered on and is currently charging. I tried to boot it and it stayed on the "Samsung Galaxy S4" so I'm guessing that that has something to do with the battery. Regardless, I'm glad that the device powered on.
