Hi all, my problem is, i have a t-mobile mda3, i bought a new 2gb micro sd card, sandisk. i wanted to put my copilot software onto the 2gb card, so i thought i would do it here at work on my mac, not a good idea as i have now found out, i cant use the card on my pc at home, it just keeps saying "do i want to format the card now" well i tried to format it but windows xp cant do it, cant remove blocks or volumes or something. What i have noticed is that the data/card is running 16 bit, my pc i think is 32 bit.
Is there a way i can get the card back to how it was when new
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers.....Del
Hi,
the card format should be FAT16, you could try putting it in a digital camera and formatting it, or using Linux (which has utilities to format to virtually *anything*) or a decent Win partition manager utility.
Don't panic, it shouldn't turn out to be a major disaster.

Or download pocket mechanic (there is also a trial version) and format it on your pda.

hi, thats what i meant FAT16, im never going to transfer anything from a Mac onto my cards again. But why wont my pc format it? I'll try a digicam, failing that i'll try downloading pocket mechanic as suggested by twiggerdingo.
Thanks both of you

HI
I have one little problem with microSD card! When I copy some files on card with ActiveSinc or with mobile, speed is 35 Kb/s!!! When I copy the same file with card reader speed is 3-5 Mb/s!!! Is this a problem with my Hermes (AT&T 8525) or with ROM (Shap's 3.60, 4.0, ..., 4.30)? Maybe SDHC driver is problem or something else? Anyone tried some other ROMs?
Are you using vista? I experience the same thing, but only under vista
i am experiencing this as well
using the card reading da speed is very fast
What ROM are you running? Some with SDHC driver?
I am also facing the same problem. I am using vista and Schap's full rom 4.31. Not sure what to do.
At&t 8525
olipro 2.10
I noticed the same - Fixed the problem by using WM5torage and I had write speed
Maybe WM5torage fix the problem when coping from computer to phone (SD) but when I copy from phone to SD card its slow (when I'm recording something with VITO AudioNotes to SD it says that my device is slow and I can't record for a long time)!!! Anyone tried with generic (not custom built) ROM?
Maybe you can use the format of FAT.
This has always been the case when transfering files onto the card via activesync.........just unfortunatly the way the software transfers the files to the device and then to the SD card from there.
As said above, ive overcome the problem with the use of a card reader or using WM5torage.
OK! But my question was is there any way to speed up write speed phone to sd? I always transfer files from my computer with card reader but some PPC programs (VITO Audionotes) are complaining about sd speed and it wouldn't work as they should! Is this problem with SDHC driver or is it device?
Try to change File System cache...
HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize
I set CacheSize to 512 and work fine with this settings. Look at this settings in your registry and try to change other parameters.
No! The problem is still there! Something else?
What card are you using ?
Benchmark your memory card with SPB Benchmark or Pocket Mechanic and post here the results..
WM5 Storage on my Schaps 4.22
Ok, I thought I saw WM5 storage in my Rom,, but now that you mention it,,I can't find it (unless it was there on a previous Rom , and not there now). I think ,last time I dug it up by accident, I was asking myself what the hell this SW was used for. So, for speeding up things, how do I use WMstorage to enhance download from PC to SDcard installed on Device? Found WM5Storage through file explorer,,tried it , but can't get my PC to see SDcard..
I would think about the low usb 1.1 speed.
USB 1.1 is slow but not that slow and I am copyng from phone to SD card so this is not a problem and the SD card is also not a problem because i tried few different cards and the result is the same!
Does anyone know how to retrieve items accidentally deleted from a SD Card because of a hard reset?

Is there any way you can explain how this works? Maybe I am not understanding what you are trying to explain to me. I apologize for being so slow on this subject.
There are several freeware and shareware programs out there for doing that. They're not 100% guaranteed to get all (any) of your stuff back, but it's the best there is.
I've used this program with some success... there are others out there, but this should get you started.
pci_us_smartrecovery
http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/smartrecovery.html
what i'm trying to say to is that any program which can undelete from a pc harddisk works on a sdcard in a sdcard reader
http://www.google.dk/search?source=ig&hl=da&rlz=&q=xp+undelete&btnG=Google-søgning
pick one many are free
thanks
Thanks for the undelete tip, picked up a free one from your link and recovered 30 pictures from my SD drive! This site is sooo useful, thanks to all the contributers and coders!
Anyone know of an application that will allow me to check the micro SD card is OK ?
I suspect I have a fault in the card as I had to recopy 2 folders and the PC can't read the card directly.
It would be nice to check first without going through all the backup and restore time (16 gigabyte card).
Thanks, D.

I've never heard of a WM program to do this but you could try putting the card in your pc and using Scandisk command.

Thanks - but the PC does not recognise the card !!
But, you've given my the idea to try it directly from a DOS window using scandisk from the command line.
Thanks, D.
Active Sync?
Will you get access to the (corrupted) storage card while connected your THD with activesync?
Other way to check could provide EasyRecovery from OnTrack and your THD has to be connected in diskdrive mode.
In generell I used a tool named h2testw - which was developed by a German Computer Magazin called CT. http://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/2008/09/02/h2testw-14-gold-standard-in-detecting-usb-counterfeit-drives/
This is the best one to check physical errors on every externel memorycard connected through USB. It has to be used on a new formated card.
Thank you for the tips I will explore those.
I'm not sure what the problem is. I can see the card via active sync but not via USB style connect.
I can not see the card when I directly connect it via a card reader.
I was able to use a different card OK and reinstall my GPS app (Route 66) which had gotten screwed up by this card "fault".
I'll report back on results ...
Hmm
These two don't work because I can't see the card from the PC (except via activesync)
There is a file called "~Recycled" in the storage card which does not show in the standard pocket pc file explorer but does show up in total commander.
Maybe that is causing a problem - will investigate on google what this is.

Noop - that's not it. Apparently this is just a delete folder from Resco File Explorer. It should not stop the PC from seeing the card.
Searching further ...
same problem here, I am contacting Orange to try to get a replacement. Not sure if its under warranty.
Try Pocket Mechanic for PPC... it has a Scan Disk utility amid a collection of others.
Successfully repaired my micro SD card with this when my HD was having problems reading my storage card some 3 days back.
Good luck!
I got a Siemens mediacom 15" tablet pc with a nec vr4181a processor from a friend of mine.
There is Windows CE 4.2 preinstalled on it but i want to change it to a linux distri. Win Ce is not that good for Browsing the interwebz these days ^^...
The tablet has a usb port and an internal sd card reader. it also got a phillips tv tuner a lan port and a card reader. inside i found something that looks like a pcmcia slot.
i tried booting linux from usb and sd card but it didnt work.
