Can't Copy cmhome.dll and other dll files!! - HTC Excalibur

I am having trouble copying the dll files from my Windows directory on my Dash. I have used Total Commander and Windows Explorer. It says access denied. I can copy some dll files such as the bronzeres.dll. But I cannot seem to get the others. I have tried to make them unhidden (Visible). I have rebooted my phone and pc, just in case there was something weird going on with either. I am stuck. The whole reason I am wanting these is to see how they operate. I have been able to alter my homescreen xml code to insert Fizz Weather into the iconbar, but would like to attempt at adding plugins such as Fizz Weather to the actual panels instead of just a panel with a link to start Fizz Weather. I would really appreciate any help with this. I am really at a stand still at this point.

Those files are XIP (execute in place) they arent real files, they are in a weird format optimised for running fast, although they display in explorer you cant copy them. However you can overwrite them with replacements and the original XIP versions are hidden from applications.
To retrieve these XIP dlls to your PC you need to dump the ROM and reconstruct the files. Its pretty easy there are loads of guides on the Wiki.
Follow this first:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_HowtoDumpRom
Then second to extract the files:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_HowtoExtractImgfs

here you go heres cmhome.dll

I tried to dump this ROM but I'm not getting very far. The 1st link you gave is for the Hermes and does not appear to be the same as the excalibur. I cannot seem to dump the raw files needed to dump the rom. Any help??

Delete File in Windows Mobile 6

Hi, how can I delete a file in \Windows folder? it seems complaining that the file is in ROM, I had tried many way even using other File Explorer or via ActiveSync. None of them work.
How can I delete a file in \Windows folder in my Microsoft Windows Mobile 6?
Maybe Resco Explorer or Total Commander CE will help.
if it's built in the rom, you might be unable to delete that file.
Please be more specific: which file do you wish to delete?
Maybe you'd have to recook the ROM without that file.
Regards,
EquinoXe
Things built into the rom are "READ ONLY MEMORY" therefore cannot be deleted. if the file is only marked as system and readonly though you can change its atributes using total commander. just long click on item to bring up menu and go to properties. there you need to uncheck everything and delete
I had downloaded Total Commander and installed it, the checked file attributes are 'read only' and 'in rom'; so I guess the file shall be consider undeleteable.
Now I had to learn how to recook, any good guide how can I recook the ROM that I have?
similar problem
I downloaded some software and it came up as being faulty software. The file was a zip folder titled : res_ppc-custom.icons
I tried through my windows mobile device center to uninstall it, but it was never actually installed completely in the first place.
I then tried to delete the file a few times. Once directly from my pda, once through the device center and again through my pc windows explorer. All three attempts were unsuccessful.
How can I get rid of this thing?
Thanks in advance
perhaps you may want to check if the file being accessed by other software, easiest way is to soft reset and try to delete it.
That did the trick! Thanks so much
Move files to storage card
OK I want to move some files (not ROM) in Windows and keep getting error. For example Opera.exe is not marked as anything in properties yet I can't seem to delete the file. I did copy it to my storage card without any issue but can't delete the original from Windows directory. Any suggestions since Total Commander won't delete it. Will edit registry to find it on the Storage Card.

I have the same problem - I have colpilot.wm6ppc.cab in my Windows directory. It's 12.6mb, I don't want it, and it's taking up a lot of storage space. My phone is a T-Mobile MDA and it obviously came with CoPilot as an option, but I think it's really unfair that the cab is right there in the Windows dir and I can't get rid of it....
Any help gratefully received....
Cheers,
Ed.
The cab is cooked in as part of the rom; there's nothing you can do about it, except flash a custom rom (this is one of the main reasons people flash custom roms). Be glad it was installed as a cab and not as a full package-at least cabs are compressed are a single file.

I think the issue is not on the files in ROM.
I have the same problem. I've copied a file under Windows folder and after that I'm unable to delete it.
Strangely I'm able to rename it, which should mean that file is not in use, however deletion is not possible.
I've used TotalCommander, the built-in Explorer and also connected the phone via ActiveSync, but still nothing happens and access seems to be denied.
The exact message is "deletion error".
Any idea?
Thanks.
Cheers...

A very common problem with Windows explorer is reported on all Windows help forums. I've seen people complaining about problem with long path files deletion.
Some common problems with Windows Explorer people talk about:
- Doesn't allow to delete files with long path names
- Pops up error while deleting unwanted files or unnecessary files
- Errors like: Access denied, sharing violation, source in use etc.
I've found a very simple but smart solution for all these above mentioned common problems. A very simple but powerful tool to overcome these problems. Everyone who plays with the files must have this tool. Its compatible with all versions of Microsoft Windows.

Use Total Commander to modify the contents of the \Windows directory.
Yes, but you won't be able to delete a ROM file anyway.
In the \Windows folder, you commonly encounter three kinds of files :
- Pure ROM files (can't be deleted nor renamed nor moved, nor even copied, but can be overwritten, consuming internal storage memory space in the process to store the new copy, that will become used instead) ;
- Files put there by installation CABs or else (can be freely deleted, renamed or moved, provided they're not currently used by a running process) ;
- Files put on top of previously existing ROM files, wearing the same name (deleting, renaming or moving them will thus make the original ROM file undertneath to reappear with its original contents and attributes).
Once you've understood that, you'll be more aware of what's cooking there.
ROM files can't even be copied, but you can use ROMExtractor to copy them elsewhere, in case you want to study them, or use them in your own ROM (useful to get up-to date versions from another HTC device to cook your own ROM).
Since ROMExtractor is a very minimalistic tool (you have to type in all the files names with their path, same for the target copy, all one by one !) manually extracting hundreds (even thousands) of files is a very tedious taks, I made a MortScript to automate the process in order to extract all those DLLs, EXEs, MUIs, etc. files that can't be directly copied from a phone's ROM.
On the other hand, you absolutely can't delete a ROM file to make room. Overwriting it with a file wearing the same name will jut result in actually adding the new file, thus consuming even more room. The new file will just be used instead of the original one (so you can still update or personalize the ROM).
As a direct consequence, the only way to get rid of unwanted ROM files or permanently replacing them with up-to-date ones is to cook a ROM and flash it to the device to replace the old one.
That's way how operating systems can become better and better, and save space at the same time.
And no, Windows Mobile isn't dead : I'm not quite finished with fixing it until it's perfect, so it's not over yet. LOL

[Q]A noobie needs help!

Hi, my name is kostas and I recently become owner of a Blackstone!
After searching the forum about themes and how to create them, I decided to try and create one. That's when my problems started!
First I copied the windows folder from my device to my pc, then with manila editor I extracted the icons that I wanted to change and edit them in photoshop. After that, I replaced them to the manila files with manila editor.
When I tried to copy the new manila files to my device I got a message which says that I cannot copy them to the windows folder.
Then I used QuickCab to install the files from my phone but after the installation I started the TF3D and the old icons were shown.
What should I do to make this work?

If you used File Explorer to replace the files, most times it does not allow you to return them. The safest is probably to first disable TF3D (Settings\Today) and then use something like to Total Commander or Resco to replace the files in Windows. Soft reset and re-enable TF3D.
thanks for the advice. I'll try it and see what happens

Pleasure bro, hope it works for you. You can also look at HD Wall which allows you to create your own slider with your icons and then creates a cab for you to install.

Alternatively you can use Sashimi to copy the files to your Windows directory! But Total Commander should work just fine...

Problem with Titanium Panels on non-English device

hi there!
I have an Acer neoTouch with German WM 6.5 (Build 21840.5.0.60) and a lot of the custom Titanium Panels don't work.
With don't work I mean they don't show up in Titanium, although they do in CHome Editor 1.6
Some work, some don't show up on the today screen. TitaniumStarter for example shows up, Opera Panel or CPlayer don't.
Also, Titanizer doesn't work at all. It can change the left softkey, but whatever Panels I setup, Titanium will be empty afterwards.
is there anything I need to know? Maybe a problem with different paths? Can I edit something in the Registry to make them show up? maybe there are language specific paths in the registry that I haven't found yet (but then I don't know what to search for).
thanks a lot!
Bernhard
The easest way is to create a new folder \program files and in this folder copy the titanium progs from the folder \programme. Copy not move..
hm, thanks, but copying the CPlayer directory from \Program Files to \Programme, with a subsequent reset didn't do it yet...hm.
I copied \Program Files\JMLPanex\CPlayer to \Program Files\JMLPanex
and did the same for CPlayer.
both, CPlayer and JMLPanex directories are now identical in \Program Files and \Programme
reset, but still no CPlayer panel visible on titanium (only in CHome Editor)... *snieff*
Sorry, but you think wrong. You have a german rom - In this rom the titanium progs install in the folder \Programme. But in the reg or *.xml the progs search for the folder \program files. Understand ? And some of the progs have different of screen solution. I don`t know what solution your PPC have. VGA - XVGA - WVGA Think about it, and try.
yes I do understand you, and as said, I have for example the CPlayer folder in both, Programme and Program Files. I also have the JMLPanex folder in both (with identical content).
also, the registry keys look good. same goes for other plugins, except TitaniumStarter and ElecontWeather. hm.
so, I followed your advice and copied everything to both folders, but they still don't show up. no error msgs. whatsoever
Do you have install it ? I have tried the cplayer and it works on my xperia if you do all the things that in the tread from the developer wrote. You ask him also. Possible it`s a thing in panex.dat or in the reg. I don`t know. Learning by doing. Do you have all files installed in the tread. Also the resolution file ?
Are there any files with 0409 in them?
No it isn`t. I know what you mean. For German 0407. But I think he missed some progs too and don`t install it. By me - It works.

Hide clock/time under TouchFlo 3D

Does anyone know how to hide the HTC clock (not flipping it up to make it smaller) completely while keeping TouchFlo3D activated?
I want the home screen has has completely nothing on it to show the whole wallpaper.
freshgear.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/htc-touch-hd-screen-main.jpg
Like from the picture above, I want to hide:
The Time (10:20)
The date
The alarm off text
The call history and calander text
So just a blank screen w/o anything while keeping TouchFLO3D running.
Hi

Hi
what you have to do is,you have to change 17 manila files to transparency and the mode9 file 1c684cd8_manila.I did it already for you, because I changed my homescreen too.Important is,go in you phone windows directory (Windows) and save all the files what you will overwrite with this procedure to you computer to be on the save side, because it could be you change you mind sometimes, and you never know what could get wrong. If not,you will have to make a hard reset with you phone to go back to you original state, copy all the files in your PHONE WINDOWS DIRECTORY (WINDOWS)

Are all the files from your ZIP stored under a specific folder in Windows? I browsed the Windows folder in my phone and found the exact file names that matched the ones you have attached, but they are not in PNG (all the files just have a Windows icon), are those the ones?
Hi
I'v got something better for you,use the cfc_gui tool from chainfire, what you have to do is,copy all manila files to you computer, open it up with the cfc_gui tool,it takes a couble a secound to open it, in this tool you will then find all you manila files,if you tick of one file you will see all his content, size, name and picture, you can than save each one on you computer separately and work or change something on it with photoshop or others, if you in the cfc_gui tool go to the (home\vga files) because that a the files for the clock,if you make all the files transparent than the clock will disappear, you can do a lot with this tool,of course you have to be connectet with you phone to the computer to save the alteret files back again to you phone, and don't worry this tool save all you files to the right place in you phone if you use the cfc_gui tool than you don't need the zip file any more you can choose you own method and do what you want, underneath the download link.

I think I cannot use this method because I do not use a Windows computer and cannot connect between computer and phone.
Basically, I just need the things highlighted in neon green in the attached photo to disappear while keeping everything unchanged.
From your first method, I found the files that you put in the ZIP under my phone's Windows folder, but the ones in the phone's Windows folder are not PNGs.
Can you confirm if those are the correct files to replace?
Also, if I just need the few things from the attached photo to disappear, do I have to replace every file with the ones from your ZIP?
Hi
to you first question:how do you copy the files in you phone without computer
to you secound question:that what you highlighted on you phone that is exactly the 17 manila files, you will find in the new zip files the description of all the manila files
to you third question:the manila files a all alteret from PNG to QTC otherwise it would nothing happen when you copy them to the win directory,it was my mistake I should have mention it early in the post before, apology for that
to you fourth question:use the files in the new zip for what I will make a download link underneath thats the right files
to you fifth question:yes all the few things on you photo is all the 17 manila files, look in the description in the new zip file you will see that you need all the files,it is all explaind
something else use the mode9 file 16c84cd8_manila only if you can still someting see on you clock and screen
as you can see on my homescreen no clock

To answer your question, I only use bluetooth to transfer files between my computer and phone.
By replacing the files with ones above, will it cause any problem if my ROM isn't english?
Is there a quicker way to backup all 18 original files in case someday I want the clock back, instead of copying one after one from the Windows folder?
Just to confirm, your ZIP above has 18 files (excluding the capture.PNG)
One last question, how do make the menu bar transparent (like from your home screen above) and change all the icons at the bottom of the screen?
Hi
no it cause no problems for you ROM,
no quicker way to copy files from you win phone folder,if you would have a connection to you phone via computer it would take a few secound to copy,
zip files have 18files 17 manila and one mode9 file,+PNG
for you last question:to get the transparency for the taskbar I cooked it in my ROM after that I flashed it to my phone,I'v got a cab file that promised to do that same with the taskbar,I never try it because I cooked it already in my ROM,if you want to try it I will make a download link, if it dosen't work you can delete it again from you device,to the icons you can use the HDWall tool to create the icons

These files MIGHT help hackers

I've extracted some files from an HTC rom that might help in hacking. Almost all of these files can be found in the Windows directory of an HTC WP7 phone. For some reason, the program extracted the dll files as folders?, so they may not be as useful as I hope they are. I've attached them in a 7z.
Code:
7z password:
exilevilify
If you think you want more files from the rom, let me know.
EDIT: Some of these files appear to be encrypted, so I'm sorry if this is completely useless.
They are folders because they are modules. You need a tool called Recmod.exe that will create the DLL out of them. I noticed it isn't compatible with all WP7 DLL's though.
It might be because they are encrypted. I'll try extracting the files from other roms at some point and see if they are encrypted as well.
Makes sense, I've managed to convert a few & Restorator give an error trying to open them.
