Hello all,
I have just get an Artemis and I have flashed the Vanilla ROM, but now I'm not able to configure my gmail account using the IMAP server.
The problem isthat I can not deactivate the option "get configuration parameters" from internet, and by default the option selected is the POP server.
Is it posible to configure a Gmail acount using IMAP server on this ROM?
Regards,
I had the same issue, and did not solve it ... but my workaround was to download the Java Midlet from Google.com, and get my gmail that way, I find it faster too. I know that does not answer your question, but it might help for the time being
Easy, just add Gmail as [email protected] so it won't do the autorecognize thingy. Then when all settings are entered go back to options and change email adress to [email protected].
Easy
Thank you - so easy when you think about it!!
if i only knewthis 5 months ago....jeez... soo simple

Hello everyone
I bought an O2 XDA from a friend. Have unlocked it and now inserted my Orange SIM.
I can receive SMS and make calls but cannot connect to web or pick up my pop3 emails.
Is there a program i can download or how do i do it
Please help - its making me crazy!!!
Munders.
you just need to setup the grps in
settings->connections->connections
add a cell grps network
type in the access point of your network
type in the login and password if you network require this
and you have network
then you need to add pop3 under the inbox acount
with the incomming and outgoing servers you use
and the login and password you use
Someone wrote a whole guide on how to do this for the XDA II on Orange. If you search these forums I guess you'll find it. I think the author was Shademehr or something.
Thanks guys. I'll try that
I can access Wap now. Cannot however add a new POP3 account. The optioned is greyed out on my XDA. It only allows SMS or Activesync.
Any ideas?
what if you press accounts->New account
thats how i set mine up the reason that it's greyd out the place you are looking should be because it's not setup yet
in what section is the accounts option?
Thanks
New account is the thing you should run in the account menu

I have installed CRC WM6 ROM and everything is fine except one problem - when I try to setup a Gmail account in Outlook, it automatically detects settings for Gmail (there is no option to turn this off from what I can tell). However, the settings it detects are pop and I want imap settings. I used to have it configured with imap settings so I know it works and my gmail account is configured for that.
I try to manually edit the options after it automatically configures, but it doesn't let me change the important details such as account type (POP or IMAP) and things of that nature (grayed out, cannot edit them).
Does anyone know how to get this set up where I can have gmail as imap? I do not mind manually typing in the connection info, but it automatically detects it without providing any other options. I am not sure if this is ROM specific or a WM6 issue in outlook. The same goes for AOL (and any other automatically detected settings in Outlook).
EDIT: I found a way around it I believe. On the first step of creating a new account, I just lied about the domain name (ie: I put gmai.com instead of gmail.com). It then did not automatically detect settings, asked if I wanted to try and automatically get settings from internet, I said no, then I just filled in the information manually. It was then working and could download them via imap - I then went back and edited the setup and fixed the email account domain (although I'm not sure what this is actually used for as it's not the name that shows up in the outlook list, nor is it used to connect to the server with...)
When you are creating your account, try not using the correct username and password (either username or password must be wrong)
After some steps you will be notified that the account could not be verified. Now, try to modify your account settings and you will be able to set your IMAP.
This might be more of a solution than you need but it should fix your problem.
Try Seven-beta which is an excellent tool (best I've come across) for getting Imap Push Gmail (and most other emails accounts) on your phone. It works instantly and is very simple to set up. You can get it from their site or get it where I uploaded to here.

kwangchin You Rock!
Thanks for the simple solution kwangchin. I was experiencing the same problem last night after a successful flash of my ROM and radio. Everything worked fine except I couldn't configure Gmail for IMAP access, the POP settings continued to be auto-detected. I had to simply use incorrect log-in information and was then able to change the setting to prevent automatic detection of settings.
Hey guys... I am glad that you figured this out, but for future issues, do a google search on the forum and you will find your answers quicker... I am not bashing, but trying to show you an easier way to search....
from google, use the advanced search function... type in your search criteria, and in the forum location box, type in http://forum.xda-developers.com and it will search XDA for your information...
Hi guys,
i just found out, my email provider wants me to pay for imap services, so i wanted to switch it to POP3 on my TP2, but there isnt any option to do so...
Does anyone know how to change from imap to pop???
You can't switch from imap to pop3. You'll have to remove your imap account from your Messaging app. Then add your pop3 account. Don't use the HTC Email Setup app. Do it manually in the Messaging app. Also remember to uncheck the box during setup that helps you to retrieve account settings automatically.
Finally found it
Had to use a different email and then rename it to web.de, cause my tp2 saved the web.de settings and used them again and again
Thanks alot

Just follow the 'Tools>NewAccount...>menu to get to the wizard, you'll then get an option to set up the account and on about screen 3 of this you will be asked if you want IMAP4 or POP3. I found it easier to disable the auto settings and go manual.
Is there anyway I can the HTC email widget to display my googlemail account as I've been trying to set it up bit without success?
I couldn't use theHTC mail widget for gmail either. I could setup hotmail no problem. Is it possible that gmail must be used through the gmail app only?
Looks like which is a shame as I prefer the HTC email layout
add account (active sync)
email address - enter your full email address (eg. [email protected])
server address "m.google.com"
domain - leave blank
username - enter your full email address (eg. [email protected])
password - your password
select SSL
hope this helps
it is possible to use the HTC widget for gmail yea.
First you have to go into gmail on your pc then settings (top right)
Then choose "Forwarding and POP/IMAP"
Then choose "Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)" or "Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on" deppending on what you want.
Then hit "save changes" at the bottom of the page.
now on the desire:
put the widget down.
choose to manually enter settings.
All default settings should be fine, just enter your gmail user and pass.
Then all should be good =]
I've tried both comments above, I get to the screen asking what data I want to sync but when i click finish setup, I just get an error message saying failed to create the account, pls try again later

You want the pop3 option on your phone, not the activesync one. Just put in your google username/password. Make sure you have a data connection to the internet (3g/wifi).
I suggest using IMAP. Add the mail widget to one of the homescreens then tap to make an account. Choose pop/IMAP and you want IMAP.
Then add in your gmail (googlemail email and password. Make sure you are connected via wifi or your mobile connection and you should be all set....

Well, i said pop3 but yes, it's techinically the Other(pop3/imap) option. If you are setting up gmail then you don't have to choose manual, and therefore you don't actually select either pop3/imap, just enter your username and password...
Nope, neither of these work either
Try putting in "googlemail" instead of "gmail" where your email address and username goes.
That seemed to solve my problem.
I was putting googlemail but tried gmail and all working ok now so cheers

no problem. strange that some people need to use gmail and others need to use googlemail to get this to work
Gmail IMAP working like a charm for me.
Thinkin may stick to the gmail app now though as tend to get notified of new emails quicker then the HTC widget.
I have one gmail account through the gmail app and another gmail account through the HTC mail via ActiveSync. both push through as fast as each other imo.

After trying various email options with my Desire, using Exchange ActiveSync protocol between Gmail and the standard mail app seems the best of several poor options. It isn't working quite as I expected though. It seems to be similar to IMAP in the way it displays the correct emails in various folders as a copy of what's in gmail on the web. However, it only copies folder contents that I've changed by other means (PC or webmail). If I move, create or delete emails using the mail app, that isn't then reflected in my account in the web.
Is this just the way it is supposed to be or should it work the same as IMAP, and if so, why isn't it? Any suggestions appreciated.

I use exchange with the HTC Mail application with my Google account as well. When I move or delete messages, they get deleted on gmail.com in 2-3 seconds.
Maybe something is wrong with your configuration, you sure you have it on push? Mail app -> Settings -> Send/Receive -> Push

Thanks for replying. I'm glad it works ok for you, as it gives me some hope.
Yes I do have it set to push. I also have the domain set to Google and my username set as my email address, and SSL is on.
Are you in the UK? I am, and my email address is therefore googlemail rather than gmail, so I'm wondering if my login details should be also. I'll give that a go now and see if it makes any difference.
[Edit] I've tried changing the domain of my username to gmail instead of googlemail, but it wouldn't create the account. So I'm stuck with what else to try.
Well somehow it now works fine. The only difference is that my email address (not my username) now has the gmail domain and not googlemail. I had to re-create the account to change the settings, so either there was something wrong that resolved itself when I did that, or the difference in the email address makes a difference.
Hopefully that may help someone else.
Well now it isn't working again. Is nobody else having problems with their Desire and Google Exchange?
Here are my settings, and as I said works perfectly on my unbranded desire.
Email address: *******@gmail.com
Server address: m.google.com
Domain: google.com
username: *******gmail.com
CHECKED - This server requires SSL
In my account sync settings I'm syncing MAIL + Calendar.
Just for the record, I'm not using a task killer, which could possibly interfere?

It gave me an error when I tried to set my username to @gmail - Probably because I'm in the UK where Googlemail is used rather than gmail. Although if you wrote to me using @gmail, I'd still get it. So it's all a bit confusing. Besides, it did all work yesterday. I don't have the domain set the same as you, I just have "google" as I read elsewhere that was correct, even though that alone isn't actually a domain.
I wish I could edit these settings without deleting then re-creating the account, but there doesn't seem to be a way to. I'll do that again though to match your settings, if it lets me.
I'm not using a task killer by the way.
Tried using my Googlemaill account and says it can't do it - bit annoying but I'm happy with the gmail app tbh, just thought I'd try it out!

If you use @gmail as your username, it'll probably 'half' work. Mine is back up but it still isn't working properly. I'm not sure if it's better than using the Google mail app or not now, as I've gone between that and the mail app and K-9 so many times now, I forget what was wrong with each one. LOL. I think one of the major issues with the Gmail app is lack of copy/paste.
I rarely send email, I just have it to receive and then use my PC to get any attachments if needed...I'll stick with it for now!
I've found something similar. If I delete an e-mail on Webmail or IMAP (using Windows Live Mail) it doesn't disappear on the HTC Mail App (using Gmail Exchange ActiveSync). I have to delete it manually again. I've started a thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=676890
Which is odd as both the native Gmail App and IMAP (using the same HTC Mail App) do.

You can, just go to "More" and then "Settings" in the HTC Mail App or click on Exchange in "Accounts and Sync". You can change it all there, except for the domain (oddly that seems to be only available when you first create the account). Which incidentally, Google say you should leave it blank:

This is the Windows Mobile instructions but Google intend you use this feature primarily on Windows Mobile handhelds.
